21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Would you invest in Ethereum longterm? on: May 27, 2017, 04:26:04 AM
Ethereum has so much hype its ridiculous. So much based on its ability to do things in the future. Has anyone done calculations on how fast eth needs to be to support Augur, golem, and all the other eth dapps? Does that sh*t even add up? If you've seen anything please let me know. Whens the last time you needed a smart contract?

NEM makes a lot of sense using proof of importance which will fight centralization and incentivize usage. Bitshares is first and foremost a decentralized exchange (amazing and no daily transaction limit! No govt hands!) but their currency BTS uses delegated proof of stake to run the network which could prove to be the best yet.

Can't win them all. Did just take the opp to buy more BTS at the low. C'mon crypto gods, let get this! Please Larimers, hope you are not scammers!
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Will Cryptocurrencies End? on: May 26, 2017, 07:00:52 PM
I am so glad I made the decision to buy bitcoin 1 year ago. After reinvesting in altcoins I've seen 10x profits this year. I now have about 75% of my wealth wrapped up in my cryptocurrency portfolio which is honestly giving me a bit of anxiety. My general outlook on this space is that cryptocurrencies will be a new asset class. In 20-30 years it will be common for ppl to invest in these currencies like you'd invest in precious metals or stocks. Thats what I keep telling myself anyways.

My question is what would it take to wreck the cryptocurrency ecosystem? Massive solar flare? Massive kickback by central bankers? Could highly skilled hackers attack many coins at once? We've seen the security vulnerabilities of monero recently... What are your thoughts on the future of all this and what strategies do you guys use to make it all less stressful?

Now I've just got to get my BTS off the exchange and start using it . . . to make more money!

You mean get it off poloniex or something? Or off the BitShares exchange wallet? How do you use it to make more money??

This guy is talking some pretty hardcore shit found on random ethereum thread. Comments?

I recently bought BTS right at the high a few day ago. I've been using the exchange and everything is working perfectly. A decentralized exchange with blazing fast speeds and no daily withdrawal limit? Amazing. I would think it would've taken off like wildfire. I find the referal program and interest stuff a little scammy feeling but don't know much about that stuff. Anyone know why the price is going down?

29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ethereum Node Size Concern on: May 20, 2017, 03:02:23 AM
I know that with bitcoin every node has a full record of every transaction that has ever happened ever. Is this the case with ethereum as well? With all the "smartness" built into ethereum it seems the nodes would get crazy big especially with there being 16,000 of them. Or is the data distributed in some way?

Owlcatz the syntax is correct. I am not sure that monerod is working properly.

This is the monerod log:

Wallet-cli seems to be running. I have logged in with my wallet name and password and it shows my balance. Can anyone tell me what syntax to use to send funds to poloniex using an address and id? I have tried

transfer <address> amount <id>

to no avail because it says Error: payment id has invalid format, expected 16 or 64 character hex string

According to the last paragraph of this article:

https://blog.nem.io/how-do-i-get-importance-on-the-nem-blockchain/

It is possible but not profitable to fool the system? Seems it could be beneficial to somebody to wreak havoc on the network doesn't it? Does anyone know where to learn more about how somebody might influence the network?
35  Other / Beginners & Help / Easiest Way To Secure Coinbase Vault Bitcoin on: October 11, 2016, 04:36:55 PM
I am relatively new to bitcoin, still not comfortable with it. After the Bitfinex hack I have been wanting to move my coins from the coinase vault to a paper wallet or hardware wallet I can keep at home. What is a good easy option that has easy to follow instructions?
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Question: If a voting app were created, would it be based on.... on: July 01, 2016, 03:36:50 AM
Fairly new to blockchain tech but if someone were to make a voting app - like for voting for national and local elections - would it be based on any existing cryptocurrencies? Or would it just be its own tech? I imagine this is the future but when? Speculations? Huh Huh Huh
