IF the NSA wanted to take control over Bitcoin, how would they do it?

I'm guessing they would publicly release their collision attack for SHA-2 Wink
23  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Who voted for trump? on: January 30, 2017, 09:51:51 PM
Let's be clear - most Americans who voted didn't vote for Trump.  In fact, more Americans voted for his chief rival (about 2.8 million more).  Plus, around 92 million eligible voters didn't vote.  Chalk it up to laziness, lack of good choices or whatever, but Trump's views don't reflect a majority of those who voted and probably not a majority of those who didn't (given most were predicting a Clinton victory, I'd expect Trump voters to be more motivated).

Just adding in some 'non-alternative facts' along with a slight opinion on those who didn't vote.

This.

It's all fine though, the pieces are all being moved perfectly into place for WWIII.
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] YACoin ongoing development on: January 30, 2017, 09:45:27 PM
yacoin.org is down at the moment.

Bad news... YAC is in need of developers.

Site will be down until hosting transfer. I thought old c coder was taking his ideas forward?
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] YACoin ongoing development on: December 28, 2016, 06:13:17 AM
old c coder :: Did you find a solution yet to the 14+ day import of bootstrap.dat? That is what I'm working on, and would say should be the #1 priority.

and there is a working Windows leveldb "boot set" at
http://lostabout.com/btc/yac/yac048boot.zip

It takes no time at all to load!

This:
https://github.com/ya4-old-c-coder/yacoin

is basically a year behind this:
https://github.com/yacoin/yacoin/tree/testing

which is the "ready to go" official 0.4.5 code. Do a compare to see the thousands of differences, including the much better network code. The only problem is that due to scrypt-jane doing it's job, at higher N values it becomes very slow to import a bootstrap.dat file. There is no optimal solution to fix this that I've found, outside of removing all block checks for a bootstrap import, or including an entire Yacoin data directory, which is what I'm guessing Ron has done in yac048boot.zip? Either way removes the *mostly trustless nature of YAC. *Mostly, due to checkpoints still being a thing, but avoids someone having to download the entire block-chain from scratch so it's a trade-off.

I'm pretty tired beating a dead horse on all of this, so if Ron wants to continue to do his own thing using an old code base and can also get his version to work on Linux, and preferably Mac as well, then go for it and I will merge that to https://github.com/yacoin/yacoin/tree/master assuming it's better than current 0.4.4 code.

As promised, source has been released here: https://github.com/yacoin/yacoin/tree/testing

Anyone that wishes can compile and use for testing or for production. Obviously BACKUP before you upgrade! Bootstrap.dat and Win and MacOS builds will be ready within the next 2 weeks, probably sooner Wink definitely for builds, Windows is almost done.  Once they are ready, I will merge code to master along with builds.

Happy Yacoining!
Two weeks have passed. Even more. Any news about new wallet

bootstrap.dat is taking a lot longer than expected to process. At the current rate it is going to take ~ 8 more days.
OK. Thanks. Waiting

Sorry for the delay, had some personal matters to attend.

I have been testing the bootstrap.dat over the past few days and will need to change a few things in the code due to the import slowing down significantly at higher N-factor values. Will follow up when I have some more updates.

what about new client, its OK?   will be on 10/15 ?

At a minimum, source code will be released on Github, but Bootstrap.dat will NOT be ready.

Windows build should be ready, but as mentioned above, you will need to download the entire block-chain.

Mac build should be available by 10/21, but any Mac users that are able can still compile from source.

More updates before end of 10/15

31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] YACoin ongoing development on: October 01, 2016, 02:36:01 PM
Quick update, testing is going well, but getting the bootstrap.dat ready so all of you don't need to spend a week+ downloading block-chain is taking way longer than anticipated so 10/15 is looking more likely. Like mentioned above, anyone that wishes should install and run the testing version for a very close approximation of the production version.
32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] YACoin ongoing development on: September 24, 2016, 04:00:25 PM
please turn off "on top" for client's start splash screen in next release, it's pretty irritating now,
please add some bootstrap or blockchain's folders to download
please run some working blockexplorer Grin

1) Done https://github.com/yacoin/yacoin/commit/e8c044717291ce951e155fa15b79748490a3bbe5
2) Should be ready in a few more days. Will absolutely be required for new client, unless people want to spend a week downloading block-chain Wink
3) New client has built-in explorer, but also can access old one at yacoin.org

Is this how it ends for this old classic, once so full of potential, yet now doomed to failure...all the time and effort put into this great idea, yet now closer to single figure satoshis than ever..so sad...😔😔😔

This is only the end of the beginning.

Unlike almost any other market I know of, the price of all crypto-coins is silly at best and only represents how good of a marketing team the coin has. I am confident the price of Yacoin will eventually match it's actual value, but I also know that I speak for the other Yacoin developers in saying that the price is not a factor in whether we continue to work on Yacoin. No more than potential price or value was what Linus Torvalds was thinking about when working on the early versions on Linux.

New client WILL be released, I am still planning on 10/1, but definitely by 10/15 at the latest.

Anyone that wants to try out early, or help testing, this: https://github.com/yacoin/yacoin/tree/testing  is about 95% complete. If you do test out, make sure you use a new wallet just for testing Wink

33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] YACoin ongoing development on: September 04, 2016, 03:44:02 AM
In other news, testing is going very well, and new features are even better than I expected! New wallet SHOULD be ready by 10/1
More news to come.

YACCcoin is NOW listed in LTC/Doge Espers ARI CryptoJacks markets on NovaExchange.com
YACcoin > DUt2k5aetU6343yhtzDaLszbv4yz1a14AB

FAIL

Both coins have been around a long time. It just so happens Yacc was added to a major exchange long before Yac. That doesn't make it a scam. The implication that they intentionally stole the name/ticker symbol to scam people is ridiculous and does nothing to further your cause. If you think there is market confusion pressure Yacc to change their name or you should change yours. This is simply a simple name dispute between private parties. Putting it on Poloniex is just passing the buck. It's not their job to play judge and jury.

OK, you seem a rational person, so let's try this...

Yacoin, released in May of 2013 is the:

THIRD Proof of Stake coin released.

FIRST to introduce Scrypt-N, NFactor, scrypt-jane, etc.

FIRST to implement sha3

Has been on major exchanges since May of 2013.

Now on to YaCCoin...

Released January, 2014

Openly created using http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=scrypt_altcoin_cloning_guide (https://github.com/yaccoin/yaccoin/commit/c874a622616488ad599b4f577b0b1646e5b33168)

Introduced nothing new to the crypto community, outside of a great name attack on an older established coin.

YaCCoin initial announcement https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=482232.0 : 1 Page : Read 2189 times

Do a search... any search engine, for YaCCoin... do you get a "did you mean" suggestion, and/or do you see many relevant pages for YaCCoin, or Yacoin?

Now...  With the facts stated above, do you think it's safe to assume that Poloniex ACCIDENTALLY listed the wrong coin, or was the intent to actually list Yacoin ?

I can make a long, detailed list of things that have gone wrong and/or can be improved upon.

So why not make the list so that new strategies can be devised to fix them?

Lots of good news coming up. People are working hard in the background.

Hopefully in the next few months.

So....  I'm beginning to lose faith.  We have been promised a new wallet for over a year (it honestly might be two).  While I have my cpu farm running strong and we all keep waiting and praying for the developers to give us an update; there are several people who are just pumpin and dumpin our coin.  I haven't remained loyal all of this time just because I'm stubborn and don't want to accept a loss.  It happens.  I get it.  But people - do you understand the protocol of this?  It is exceptional.  It is something worth holding on to and continuing to mine.

However.... YAC came out in 2013.  And unfortunately we have seen little development of success.  One of the biggest problems are people are trying to work independently.  Tbh, there are probably even more miners than I realize, but...  when we don't have promised updates, and the websites are down, and the forums can't be accessed, and the blockchains aren't viable, and we can't even get on an exchange....  To someone new?  They aren't even going to learn the fundamentals of the coin.  btw?  Hows that white paper going for the public in 2014 and it will be posted soon.  Guys, are you listening.  Yac, has a very strong, fundamental idea and way of countering ASICs and providing an even distribution.  The things most people hate about bitcoin.  I don't understand why this is still under the radar.

PS - I syned my wallet today.  From my mining, I have a total of about 3700 yac.  I'm not some big time investor who is trying to get paid like a lot of people on these forums.  this is one of the few protocols I've seen that is truely unique - and yet, we just accept that it didn't catch on.  guys, I'll say it again.  This is our coin.  Our project.  What are we doing about it?

Edit:  lets not forget less than 100 posts this year.... and I forum I still can't access even after I've emailed the webkeeper.  And the faucet?  Number 1, 2 or 3?  ha, haha, hahaha - I don't want to even think about it.  We look so stupid right now.

Your frustration is certainly warranted. The people that ran the forum and faucet seem to no longer be around. As far as the website, this is still there... just waiting for a pull request! https://github.com/yacoin/yacoin.org This is a volunteer only, open source project. if you don't like that the faucet no longer works... fix it! Or find or pay someone that can. As you somewhat mentioned, the general crypto-coin game is almost 100% based on pump and dump for Bitcoin. No-one, for the most part, cares about anything else. But, as you mentioned WE DO.

As for the wallet, I am now spending at least 40 hours a week getting things to where they need to be along with help from ol-c-coder and senj. Lots of progress has been made so far, but things still need to be finished and tested before we release the 0.4.5 upgrade.

In other news, Yacoin is now at Nfactor 18!

Nfactor=18,
N=524288,
Memory=64MB,
Hashrate for 2x Xeon E5450=14.80

How is ASIC mining going for everyone? Wink
39  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Poloniex needs to remove YaCCoin on: July 14, 2016, 10:56:07 PM
Thanks for the detailed info, it's helpful in seeing your perspective. From what I can tell Yaccoin has been on polo for over a year. If that's right why has this just become an issue now? New management team?

If Polo listed the wrong coin by mistake and it's been on the exchange for over a year without anyone noticing that would be remarkable.

We should have done much more, but me and a few other Yacoin supporters brought the issue up numerous times to Poloniex when it first happened. Unfortunately, there was never any acknowledgement of the issue. I think we all gave up on it expecting Poloniex to either, no longer be around, or at least for YACC to disappear due to low volume. The problem is, people are trading it, thinking it's YAC! I haven't done a correlation analysis, but I'm pretty sure the recent volume in YACC is due to news of a new wallet coming soon on our Twitter account.

Maybe someone from Poloniex will at least see this thread and respond???
