21  Economy / Currency exchange / WTB BTC with Skrill on: November 24, 2013, 12:38:47 AM
If you have good reputation I will send money first, if not the seller goes first.

For now I only wish to purchase about 200-300$ worth of BTC. If the transaction is smooth we may transact further in the future.
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [WTS] 40 devcoins for bitcoins on: November 24, 2013, 12:27:09 AM
40DVC will buy you about 0.0000068BTC

You would be better off using USD. I am not a seller though, just letting you know.
23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] mcxNOW.com : Deposit. Earn Interest. Trade. on: November 21, 2013, 01:29:57 AM
Real solid is unprofessional and a scammer, they will take your BTC and you will lose money there, you will make better with mining BTC dont feed into the Alt Currency

You're full of crap, I was there. You got chat banned for asking too many newb questions. Then you were asking people to lend you money claiming you would turn it into a profit. You are the scammer. All the chat logs are public, if you want I can link to them and embarrass you...

Edit(11/24/20130)
Since you like to troll at MCXNOW, I took the liberty of looking up the chat logs...

24  Economy / Currency exchange / WTB 1BTC at Bitstamp price, maybe slightly higher on: November 19, 2013, 10:28:17 PM
Mt Gox is inflated because of frozen accounts, everyone knows that. It's fair to charge a commission fee of course, but there is a 100$ spread in the price right now. So I will pay Bitstamp rate, maybe slightly higher. Send me an offer.

I would like to receive coins first, and then I will send payment. I will give you my phone number, address, Skype, I don't care. Let's just try to speed this along, and rectify trust issues in the best way possible. We can even split up the trade into multiple transactions. It's taking so long to perform a transaction on here that I am almost willing to go back to Gox and pay inflated rates.

25  Economy / Currency exchange / Looking to buy BTC on: November 19, 2013, 09:37:20 PM
I'd like to purchase BTC without using an exchange.

1. Please post a link to your reputation thread
2. Also quote me on an exchange rate. The rates fluctuate too quickly so please try and guarantee your rate for at least 30-60 minutes. Just make a best effort so my commitment isn't a moving target.
3. I would prefer to receive the Bitcoins first, but I am sure that isn't very shocking. If you have another suggestion, I am open to discussing it.
4. Please also provide your preferred method of receiving funds.

If interested you can PM me your info or post it here.

26  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best exchange to sell large amount at once? on: November 19, 2013, 08:20:39 PM
Well stay away from Mt Gox until their USD accounts get sorted out, and they might not. The only well established fiat exchanges are Coinbase, Bitstamp and btc-e. However Bitstamp and btc-e were both taken down from DDOS attack over the past 48 hours. So far I am not aware of anyone losing funds though. Coinbase has been suffering other issues recently though, due to high transaction volumes.

I'm not sure you are going to get the answer you are looking for. There aren't any completely reliable exchanges out there, and these semi reliable exchanges all have some form of restriction.
27  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitstamp blocked by incapsula network from UK on: November 19, 2013, 06:34:21 PM
So now the only exchange that hasn't been successfully DDOS attacked is mcxnow, and they don't trade fiat.

Great... Where do I buy from now.
28  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: btc-e Error 520 Web server is returning an unknown error on: November 18, 2013, 12:34:15 AM
So what is the next best altcoin exchange? mcxnow.com?

Do we know for sure it was only a DDOS attack? Why is it taking all day to switch to a different connection?
29  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is mcxNow trustful? on: November 14, 2013, 05:42:57 PM
At this point I have the same level of trust in all the exchanges, which isn't very high. I chose mcxNow because it doesn't trade fiat so there is less government regulation, and because of the profit sharing options. It doesn't make sense to me why these large exchanges soak up all the money and run when they could have a long term legitimate investment in commission fees. It does happen though, so just be cautious.

RealSolid's mcxNow and MicroTown concept are very appealing to me. But the SolidCoin and MicroCash not so much...He's also apparently bringing gambling/games to his exchange, which I think is a terrible idea for public opinion. The last thing I want to see is a roulette wheel next to my buy order. But then again as a mcxFEE holder extra income earned from the games would go to me in part.

If I was hosting an exchange I wouldn't reveal my personal information either, but then again I wouldn't ever host an exchange. Being responsible for millions or even billions of dollars of peoples money would be very stressful. I am an excellent programmer, and in fact probably in a top tier... yet I still wouldn't put my life on the line to run one of these exchanges. I would need to go into witness protection if it ever got hacked lol. JohnMatrix is correct though that remaining anonymous is a measure of RealSolid's faith in his own platform.

30  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is mcxNow trustful? on: November 14, 2013, 03:11:28 AM
i just used it yesterday, had no problems.

what is this mcx I was reading one mcx in India is in trouble and ownere arrested what you talking about ?

He is asking about https://mcxnow.com

I've been using it for about a week, it seems like everyone in the mcxNow community holds RealSolid in high regard. I've been reading reviews through the bitcointalk forum and there are a handful of people that really don't like him and call him a scammer. To be honest it just looks like he had a couple failed coins, and he started back before everyone and there mother was starting a new currency. So he was getting a lot more attention than new coins are today. I don't think he is a scammer, I just think he may have had some bad ideas.

Basically though I wouldn't buy any SolidCoin, but I am starting to prefer his exchange over all of the others. It's extremely fast, he pays interest on your holdings just for having a balance, and you can also buy shares known as "mcxFEEs" which give you a percentage of the commissions every 6 hours. Right now they don't pay too much but assuming Bitcoin volume goes up it looks like a good investment. I own a few of the shares and if my positive experience continues I will buy more.

31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Litecoin massively undervalued? on: November 03, 2013, 05:45:08 PM
In regards to electricity costs it depends where you are in the world. In Europe I hear utility costs are very high and mining is less economical there, but in Canada rates are much lower. The value of a coin is not tied to electricity costs as another user pointed out. When electricity costs become greater than earnings that is when hashing capacity drops, then of course difficulty is readjusted. It is going to be a constant fluctuation.

As far as LTC value goes I think it is priced correctly although I see it going up in the future for sure. As it has been pointed out many times before the only way to compete with Bitcoin is to offer some major differences or advantages, small tweaks to the protocol just make it a copy cat. However I believe the memory intensive Scrypt hashing qualifies as significant enough of a difference to lend it credit. I don't think it will replace Bitcoin but I think they will co-exist for a very long time to come. I also believe there will be a 3rd player that will eventually come out with another p2p currency with other distinct differences.

Also remember, rising tides raise all boats. As public opinion improves for Bitcoin it will have positive impact on all crypto currencies. I wouldn't be surprised if LTC hits $20 in the next 12 months.
32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WHY BITCOIN IS A SCAM!!! Support INCAKOIN... on: November 03, 2013, 05:13:16 PM
I won't trust any alt coin with the word casino on the front page. Bitcoin has some problems with it sure, but that is why it's open source. We can all come together and enhance it over time as a community.

Competition among altcoins is great but don't forget who the largest competitors are, the central banks. Remember Bitcoin is first and foremost a tool for us Libertarians to bring back real capitalism and end money printing. Bitcoin is the largest player in the crypto currency world and by discrediting it you are really attacking all derivatives including your IncaKoin. Please come up with a real innovation and remember why we are here in the first place. It's not about casinos and getting rich quick.
33  Economy / Economics / Re: Why bitcoin isn't currency. on: October 28, 2013, 12:09:51 PM
It is fixed a unit.  Gold is always gold. It is human perspective that changes.

But yes you are right, the value changes with human perspective. Price is the representation of the change in perspective. It is like this.

I see your point, but what advantage is there in backing a currency with a measurable unit? In the case of gold, if you back a currency with it then you are now creating an additional use for gold and artificially increasing its worth. This is true for any precious metal. In the USA close to 50% of all silver purchased per year is in the form of coins, now anything that uses silver(Such as electronics) suffers in cost because the demand is higher. Furthermore, as you pointed out even gold suffers from value change due to perception.

You have highlighted an underlying problem with Bitcoin and currencies in general though. It is difficult to price something in Bitcoin because the value changes so rapidly. To me this means that you cannot effectively price goods/services using currency units. I've thought about having a separate unit for measuring value that can be used as a mechanism for pricing, and the only thing that changes is the ratio between this hypothetical value unit and a currency. Even if Bitcoins value stabilizes, we will hopefully move towards competing currencies and this means we need a standard pricing mechanism as an intermediary. I doubt I will have all the answers for this problem though, but I expect something similar will be required eventually.

34  Economy / Economics / Re: Why bitcoin isn't currency. on: October 27, 2013, 10:27:22 PM
Even if true it wouldn't be any different from fluctuating fiat currencies. They will all go digital as seen in Canada with MintChip. Even a currency backed by gold that has a supposed "intrinsic value" still doesn't have a fixed value. If the number of gold discoveries go down or new uses for gold are found the value of the currency will change. Furthermore currency is intended as a medium of exchange, and Bitcoin fulfills this purpose.

35  Economy / Economics / Re: my grand plan on: October 27, 2013, 09:56:42 PM
It's unlikely the price of Bitcoin will remain the same. At the very least it should hedge inflation and maintain a constant value, which means the price would go up by 2-5% a year minimum. If you factor in adoption rate and increased mining difficulty it's reasonable to assume that it will also be increasing in value. Some also predict that when quantitative easing stops it will result in deflation, so if it affects trade price of BTC it would be a result of the dollars instability and not BTC. We should also consider that as liquidity in Bitcoin market increases it would have the opposite effect in other markets. The fractional reserve system relies on a perpetual debt circle, so less transactions in these currencies only expedites their eventual crash.

That being said nothing is certain with BTC, it may fail and it may prevail. What is certain is that the USD is going to crash, and eventually it will no longer be the world reserve currency. This should be common knowledge by now, I would expect most people in the Bitcoin forums to understand the economics at work here.

As far as I am concerned BTC is a legitimate currency and I would use it for both investment and for purchasing goods/services.

If you want to help secure your investment in BTC, reach out to vendors and ask them to start accepting BTC. I'm at a point now where I will only donate to charities if they accept BTC donations. I will take the same stance on any good/service if an alternative is available in BTC. Day trading is fine, but if your ultimate goal is to only end up with more USD in your bank account then you are missing the entire point of Bitcoin.
36  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: bitcoin wallet for windows mobile (8) on: April 07, 2013, 11:17:35 PM
Hi everyone

has anyone thought of creating a wallet for windows mobile? I own a smartphone with this operating system and I believe that we will see this platform on the rise. Will someone pick up the challenge of creating a wallet for this platform? I would even be willing to chip in on the development in case someone starts it up.

Thank you

Vee

I am building a wallet for Windows 8 / Windows Store. The networking API will be open source, as for the wallet app itself I have not decided yet. I assume for it to gain any level of credibility in Bitcoin network I will likely need to make all components open source. It is guaranteed to be a free Windows Store Application.

Porting it to the Windows 8 phone shouldn't be a challenge, the code will all build except for the XAML. The interface will need to be redesigned for a smaller screen. And although it will build I don't imagine a phone user is going to want a 6gb blockchain download over their data plan. So at this point I would need to leverage the community for ideas to get around this.

Currently I am using raw sockets to communicate between nodes. Following the specification seems to be relatively straight forward. Although I see some references to JSON-RPC throughout the forums and it has added a little bit of confusion for me. I am not sure if this is just some kind of wrapper to simplify client development or if it is part of official spec and should be supported. Personally I'd rather stick with sockets.

Hi Gimpy. I suggest having a server with the blockchain downloaded and just let the clients connect to it.

Anyway by chipping in I mean donating for development in bitcoin, not necessarily programming Smiley

I thought about having a server with the entire block chain for the mobile users and I still may go that route. I had a concern that this would break the decentralized model of Bitcoin. If my server ever got hacked a malicious user could potential distribute bad information to the clients, perhaps even make someone think that they had received coins when really they hadn't. Private keys would still be safe for the client, but spoofing transaction information could be equally disastrous. I was reading about bloom filtering, and it could serve as an alternative solution.

If you want to chip in you are more than welcome, but before I do any public appeals for crowd funding I'd like to have a prototype going. In the meantime I am going to try and get a grant from the Bitcoin Foundation. I have a small team which includes 2 web developers, a graphic artist, which makes 4 if you include myself. Most of the work will be done by me, but I leverage the others for voluntary work whenever they are available. At some point I hope to pay them a bit to speed up the project.

Second phase of this project is a vendor application. The goal is to have an advanced wallet which allows retailers to manage a product listings, prices, with a secured local wallet so that staff managing the app can't access the private keys, but still have some ability to issue refunds. I am still designing what this may look like. Fluctuations in bitcoin value make pricing difficult for retailers, so I am working on a pricing component which will allow inventory prices to be derived from base values. I'm only in brainstorming mode for this phase although it will reuse a lot of existing code in my wallet app, this project likely won't go into full gear until Q4 2013. The intention with this app is again to release it for free.
37  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: NVIDIA Kepler (K20) from 134MHash/s to 330MHash/s with CUDA on: April 06, 2013, 07:04:04 AM
I've got it working now, with CUDA I get 100-110mhash/s on a 670GTX FTW(Overclocked), with an i7 CPU

Using OpenCL I get approximately the same range, but even as high as 120-130mhash/s sometimes.

Not expecting to become a bitcoin millionaire with a 670GTX lol, just doing this for fun. However whatever improvements got added do not appear to be assisting with my machine.

Curious though what is the difference between the bitcoinminercuda.20/30 files? I am wondering if there is something I need to compile myself here.
38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Looking for freelancer on: April 05, 2013, 10:59:46 PM
I doubt I quality as well established, but I am proficient in C#.

I am building my own client as well(In C#), so being able to assist you might help me down the road if I experience similar issues.

I'm not sure what you are considering sensitive information except for the obvious things like wallet information. I would probably need to see source code at the very least to find bugs.

And yes, I am working on my own initiatives, which we can discuss including you in. I don't plan on posting all details in the forums for quite some time, but I can exchange the information with you directly if you are interested. Going to be applying for a grant soon once I get my business model finished. Unfortunately most of the projects I want to release are intended to be free, so monotizing is going to be tricky.

PM me with details if you are interested in my help. We can discuss funds or shared initiatives at that point.
39  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Looking for Programmer for Website Development on: April 05, 2013, 10:07:45 PM
I suggest providing some additional details. If you are starting a project this could probably go in project development forum.

If you have technical questions, or want to hire a programming for assistance that would probably be ok to go here.

That being said, with no pay and no idea what your project is I don't see many people lining up to help.
40  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Who can program some bitcoin price-charts for my website? on: April 05, 2013, 05:15:55 PM
Thanks for the reply, i will look into it.

for now i have found someone who is willing to program the charts for me, so i will go that route first

roland.

Some advice for you in regards to charting...
1. Don't use plugins like Silverlight/Flash for dynamic charts. Although I am a huge Silverlight fan and it will look great, it won't be cross platform. This will only get worse as time goes on since even Microsoft doesn't support Silverlight in the WinRT version of their browser.
2. Don't use web controls that generate/output static images for the charts, they are not really designed for RIAs.

Look for a free HTML/Javascript charting library  that you think looks good and will meet your needs. Make sure that you won't be violating any of their license agreements and then link it here. Then I will take a look at the library and we can see what is involved in doing the work.

Like I said the only charting Library I use is KendoUI, but if you don't like the price look around for other options. Yahoo is usually pretty good at releasing free stuff, and I believe google has a free charting library as well. Go check them out.
