You can get pretty good (almost certainly good enough) privacy without running a node, just using feather wallet (or another) and connecting to a node over tor. Wouldn't the same apply for Exodus or Electrum over tor? If you do run your own node, you can just turn it on as necessary, but it might take significant time to sync depending on your CPU and Internet.
Do I have any say whether I want it to sync or not? Running your own node is best for privacy, and if you do leave it on it helps strengthen the network. If I decide to leave it on 24/7 is that with or without tor? |

How do I find my watch threads list?
If I understand you correctly, you need a means to see all the threads and posts on your watch list on this forum. Go to your profile. Click on the notification and email icon on the left side of your profile, and when the new screen appears, you will see "Automatically watch topics after replying to them." Click on the link below it, and it will take you there. Edit: hd49728 beat me to the response…. There I see (in notification and email icon on the left side of profile): For topics and boards I've requested notification on, notify me of: Moderation What is meant by Moderation option in that ? Only if moderator replies? When you click watch, is that the same thing as subscribing to a thread? I can see a the watch list now. There's only a few (5) there, yet I am certain they should be much more but I don't see the rest. Wonder what happened? |

From what I gathered it's best if you want privacy to set yourself up as a node is that right? Does the node have to be operating all the time if you set one up on your computer? Can you just switch it on when you need to send/receive and then switch it back off easily? Does it take up a lot of space of resources back and forth? You don't have to have a node because the official site says "running the official Monero GUI, it will prompt you to run the daemon locally by default. This is the same as running a full node." Bit confused which way I should go? If Monero GUI alone will give me same same privacy as node then why bother with node? |

Read this reddit reply from official Exodus staff, which may explain it better: Hey there! For most assets, Exodus is a "lite wallet" that doesn't need to download the full blockchain. However, XMR is an exception. It doesn't need to download the whole blockchain in order for you to send/receive XMR, it needs to download the blockchain to know what your balance is. However, the whole blockchain only needs to be downloaded if your wallet has transactions dating back to the early days of XMR. Since this isn't necessary for most users, you can download a smaller part of the blockchain. We have a guide to doing so here. It will be a new transaction therefore it doesn't require a full xmr blockchain download but how will exodus know not to download the whole xmr blockchain, do I get to choose after I click sync? |

Generating new addresses is not an on-chain event, but pure math. You can generate valid addresses while you are completely offline. So if you just downloaded exodus, never sync before it's ok to generate a receive address and start using it? And after receiving the funds the blockchain ledgers will know I have conducted a transaction even though I never sync before? Basically, you only need to sync up if you want to catch up on the latest blockchain transactions or broadcast new transactions of your own. The latest blockchain/broadcast transactions are helpful in what situations? Syncing doesn't always mean downloading the whole blockchain! Since Exodus isn't a full-node wallet, it uses external servers to function. But, to keep your info updated, you'll still need to sync it with those servers for the latest transaction details. What info specifically of mine? |

You can't go wrong with these 2. They are reputable open source wallets.
Can I start using the receive address for monero straight away without syncing Exodus as its asking me to do, I can see it's generated an XMR address for me to use without going thru sync. I want to avoid large download which is why I want to bypass sync if possible of Exodus. |

Exodus receive address appears without having to click sync and wait needlessly around for several hrs. Can I start receiving xmr with this or do I need to sync and wait around hrs? I am confused is it mandatory to click sync or should I ignore it?
All wallets have to be synced with the blockchain in some way. Full node wallets download and verify the entire blockchain history, so it takes some time when it's done for the first time, and requires more storage space on your machine. Why is exodus offering me a receiving address to receive monero if I haven't done the full sync to its blockchain yet? Are you sure I can't avoid downloading the whole blockchain. There's multiple coins, are all their individual blockchains going to downloaded if I click sync? |

The expiry time is for the request, not for the address. Why is it critical for the request to expire? Who I am requesting it from? I don't see it's utility. |

In exodus: - I clicked Add and added monero xmr - now it's asking me this below: your XMR balance may not be up to date because it's not synced with the blockchain. I haven't used it much myself (except for testing and review only), but according to the features listed on the official website it has full support for separate wallets, subaddresses, and accounts!

Cake Wallet is an option to consider ( https://cakewallet.com/). Atomic for altcoins, [Trustwallet, one can use unstoppable wallet as well.
Do these offer different wallet addresses which one can use to store different cryptos i.e. coin can't be stored in one wallet but in separate wallets. |
