21  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Multiple pools cgminer Linux? on: May 08, 2013, 03:45:09 AM
Thats not my dog, but it looks like him kind of.  My dog is a pound puppy, rescue.  Bassets are good dogs.  I was too busy to upload a pic of my dog.  Maybe I will latter.

Start with the main readme, scrypt readme is well, scrypt specific.

As I quoted earlier: cgminer -o http://pool1:port -u pool1username -p pool1password -o http://pool2:port -u pool2usernmae -p pool2password ...

While cgminer is running press P and choose a pool management strategy.
Or add the one you choose from:

--balance
--load-balance
--round-robin
--rotate

in cgminer's shell script. (default strategy is failover)

Details for every strategy are in the readme or in the thread.

Cool, thank you so much.  Thats what I was thinking it was going to be.  I'll play around with it right after I do laundry and eat dinner.  Any advice on my current shell script?

pm me and I'll send you a ltc for the help.

I'll look.  I did read the SCRYPT-README, and the cgminer thread a few times.  I'll look again.

I can figure this out on my own.  I have figured out everything up tell now on my own.  I read, and search the the forum.  But sometimes I just want to ask for a little help, and advice.  Just point me in the right direction.  Of course I could figure it out on my own by reading the read me and the cgminer thread, but how long is that going to take?  Someone that already knows how to do it could tell me a fraction of the time it takes me to figure it out.

Now if you'll excuse me.  I need to pin down my Basset hound, and wash out his ears.  Those long ears get infected easy.

24  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Poor man's whole house fan on: May 08, 2013, 02:37:00 AM
Where I live it hit 94 Fahrenheit (34 C) with no wind.  My miners were over heating, and the room they are in, our spare bedroom, was unbearably hot.  There is a ceiling fan in the room, but it did virtually nothing.  In the closet of that same room is the hatch to our attic.  So I decided to mount a cheap box fan on a piece of plywood to vent the hot air into our attic.  It works amazingly well.  All I need to do is keep the window open.  I also built a door, so that I can turn off the fan and close off the attic hatch.  I used a couple Tee hinges, barrel bolts, a piece of ply wood, and foam insulation.  I'm thinking of moving my miners into the closet.

So I was mining on give-me-ltc pool last night when it was hit with a DDoS.  After that I found a thread on here that explained how to configure cgminer to use multiple pools, except it was for windows, and I'm running xubuntu. I'm sure I could probably figure it out on my own, but I was hoping someone here might be kind enough to tell me, and save me some time, I would really appreciate it.

Plus I would really appreciate any advice on my current shell shell script.  I just got some riser cables in the mail to day.  Right now one of my cards does not have enough breathing room, and I have to underclock it.

#!/bin/sh
export DISPLAY=:0
export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100
export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1
cd /home/joe/cgminer-3.0.0-x86_64-built
./cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://stratum.us.give-me-ltc.com:3333 -u USER -p PASS --api-listen --api-network --thread-concurrency 8192  --intensity 17,15,17 --worksize 256 --gpu-reorder --auto-fan --gpu-engine 1050,550,1050 --gpu-memclock 1200,600,1200

Got it working.  Only one card was running.  Had to switch from 12.10 to 12.8 AMD drivers.

Thanks for all the advice.  I really appreciate it

I ended up using Slush's pool because I couldn't get Bitminter working.  But my hash rates suck.  I got 3 HD 7850's and I'm only getting 100MH's per card.  I wonder if I need dummy plugs?

Depending on your hardware, I would mine LTC and then exchange it for BTC on BTC-e.

You would think that would be the way to go, but right now when I use both calculators I get the same profit for both.

29  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How does Electrum pay for its servers? on: April 21, 2013, 07:50:41 PM
That's weird.  No one knows how those servers get played for.  Makes me kind of wonder if I want to use their wallet

That's helpful.  Thank you.  I want to use cgminer so I can switch to ltc when the time comes.

Is self bumping allowed?

Electrum uses servers, and servers cost money.  So how do they pay for the servers?
33  Other / Beginners & Help / Which mining pool should I join? on: April 21, 2013, 04:16:27 AM
I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I need to do my time in the newbie section anyways.  Plus it might save me a lot of time.

So I used the complete guide to mine bitcoin on xubuntu 12.04 https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Gw7YPYgMgNNU42skibULbJJUx_suP_CpjSEdSi8_z9U

I got everything setup and I'm at the part where you start mining in a pool, but now I have to choose a pool.  So then I looked up Comparison of mining pools https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Comparison_of_mining_pools.  There is a lot of information to go through there, and at some point I'm going to read through it all, but I have other things to do right now.  Like mining, and I have LiteCoin rig to build.

So whats a decent fairly easy to use mining pool that I can join to get started?  I was thinking BitMinter since their fees are low.  I'm in the US, should I pick something closer, or does that even matter?

What do you guys think?  Please let me know.
