22  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / DIFFICULTY TO ZERO on: January 31, 2015, 06:37:31 PM
A thought,

If everyone agreed, or most agreed, in the mining world to switch off their machines on a difficulty change period it should set to zero, then restart all the mining operations and everyone could have a bumper 2 weeks Cheesy Cheesy

All in favour say "aye" Cheesy

27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-QT is locked? on: January 28, 2015, 03:48:00 PM
I have a similar issue except I have the icon showing on the far right of the task bar and if I try click it and maximize nothing happens. Using 0.9.3 is crashed many times the last time it was at 6 weeks behind, the hd light dies show activity so I'm assuming it's verging but it takes ages well over 20 mins and sometimes it would just freeze.

Is it really because the block chain is so big? Running on a cow 2 duo 3.2ghz 3gig  notebook.win 7. I was told the 0.9.3 client is problematic also.

ok installed  0.9.3 on another machines gotas asfar as week 36 then the machines froze. after i removed the bootsrap file out of the bitcoin directory and allowed it to sync withe the network online. keeps freezing must have restarted at least 10 times. at week 29 now , not sure why it keeps freezing. could it be the laptop? running for too long maybe needs a desktop machines?

how long does it take to sync nowadays?

It depends on your hardware. What are your specs? IIRC 0.9.3 caused trouble with Windows (I'm guessing that's what you use?), see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=936408.msg10276009#msg10276009

ok I did suspect the client. Down to 17 weeks now it seems to be ok since10pm last night.
I have a core 2duo 3.2ghs 3gb ram.

hi,

im trying move my wallet to a new pc. have the wallet.dat file and  the bootstrap.dat downloaded, installed bitcoin core 0.9.3.0 beta, deleted the files in the blocks directory and replaced it with the bootstrap.dat and replaced the genereted wallet.dat file with my wallet.dat and tried loading the client but it just gives an error message 'incorrect genesis block found.wrong datadir for network.'

My wallet.dat is from a 0.8.3 version i think, could this be a problem?

You could make a new thread so more people see it and can help you . i will try to help you tho
I'am not sure if there is changes on the wallet file when the version of the Client changes but here is what you gonna try to do
"Backup all your wallets first. Delete Bitcoin folder in Users/Appdata/Roaming. Download again and wait for sync" or ... (try this first) where exactly did you placed the Bootstrap.dat file ? and the wallet ? It's not in the blocks folder it's on %appdata%/Bitcoin .

~ Madness

yes i placed it in the bitcoin it started working importing from disk, got down to 50 weeks remaining  i decided to close it because it was slowing the machine down as i was trying to do other stuff on it, next time it started up it start reindexing from the start, now it renamed the bootstrap.dat file as .old and was synching with network but is just stuck at 2years 2weeks for a while now. i may start again aon a another machine.

edit: now its got no block source.

To the joint.

I found your post helpful, very helpful and if more people held and applied your thoughts as regard to people's aid and guidance we probably would never have had a bitcoin system appear, we would have been enough for each other.
