Which is better for an S5 miner, to put it on a mining pool like KanoPool or rent it out thru MRR,ebay, etc?

To my public bitcoin address.  Wink
While I admit that current conditions are pushing fees upwards on "consolidated" transfers, I'd rather loose some bitcoin in the future than give all of it to someone else in the present.

What hardware or software do you use to house your wallet? I'm guess you don't use an exchange public bitcoin address. I understand your distrust on Exchanges, Coinbase has been offline several times in the last few days particularly when the price was climbing.

] The "reputation" of an exchange wasn't what I meant. When you send coin to an exchange, if you don't have access to the private keys, then you are giving them the coin. The now own and control it. While a reputable exchange, will give you use of that amount of coin, you're still not actually in control of that coin (just like a traditional bank, they set the terms of when/how much you can transfer, if/when you can even access that amount, etc.). Even "innocent" things can have an impact (i.e., more than 1 exchange has had repeated sign-in issues lately - If you can't sign-in to that exchange and you don't have the private keys, then you still can't control what used to be your bitcoin).

Where do you send your mining rewards?
25  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S7 miner one board hotter than the others, why? on: May 28, 2017, 04:11:56 AM
So today I got an alert that my S7 was offline, again! I couldn't go to turn it back on for almost 8 hours. Thanks to you and some you tube videos I had a pretty good idea that I had to clean it and how.

I finally went to my S7 and took it apart. There was caked dust along with some real life bugs that caused obstruction on the front end of the boards. One more than the others. I spent a whole bottle of compressed air cleaning it up inside out and took out each board and blew all the dust out.

Eventually I figured I got all the dust out that I could. I put it back together and turned it on. It wouldn't turn on at first but I figured out I hadn't plugged in the front fan first. Plugged it in and got it working fine.

Temps are now in the 50-60 range versus the 60-75 range that was before. I hope it can now work for months without stopping.

Thank you all for your help.

I have some spare servers available on a nice datacenter with replication already set up. I see that some here run full nodes. What are the benefits for the network of me running a full node? what are the benefits for me of running a full node? Where could I learn more about this without clogging this forum?

I see there's a big banner for Kano.is Pool on the forum!

I actually don't recall how I found out about kano pool. It must have been thru some article about someone running a good pool.

How do I know which PCB to get?
30  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S7 miner one board hotter than the others, why? on: May 24, 2017, 10:46:15 PM
I can't move the S7 to another room but I can power down the S5 for a trial period. So I will do that first. As for the fans I just checked and they are running at 4500 rpm or so.

I have seen a lot of dust on the fans so I imagine there's dust on the inside. I saw a few videos on how to clean the S7 so I will take that up once the S5 power down test is complete.

As for repairs it's too costly for me to send it for repairs. Are all boards on an s7 the same? this way I could just get a new-er board and keep as spare.
31  Bitcoin / Hardware / S7 miner one board hotter than the others, why? on: May 24, 2017, 09:37:25 PM
about a month ago I got a used S7 that has run ok for now. However i've had to reboot a couple of times and I suspect it's because it went over 80C and stopped.

I check the board temperatures and one is running at 70-71C while the other two boards are running at 62-63C. Could this be an indication the miner needs a dustoff ? I'm running it next to an S5 (about 4 inches apart) so my other thought is that maybe the S5 is generating heat that is conducting to the S7 board closest to it. The S5 boards are running at 56-65C.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

What subforum do you think I could post in to check why my S7 has one board going over 70C at 612Mhz while the other two are at 63C. Do you think it might need internal cleaning?

Thank you. I saw that posting but that was this morning (in my timezone), it's now almost 10 hours later and the site is still down, and the app is also down even if they say it's up. (the app opens but to a blank page). In my day job If I had a 10 hour system-wide outage on a stabilized system (not a new one) would be the first in 17 years of operations and after all the redundancy in place I would probably be looking for a job once I got it up and running again. Hopefully they will post something else because "A fix is being implemented" doesn't cut it after so many hours offline.

Seems like they shut me up. Site is up now, although it's working a bit weird in some areas.

As per some news sources there's a large number of unconfirmed bitcoin transactions, close to 200,000 of them. This has caused users to increase transaction fees in order for their's to go thru. In the short term this is very good for us miners. How about in the long term? would it cause some negative impact?

Also on news today, coinbase.com has been offline all day. Does anyone have any idea is this is a technical issue, something related to the number of unconfirmed transactions or if it's something else?

What is the advantage of a larger pool? If payout is distributed among pool members it seems to me that the individual payout would roughly stay the same. Then again I'm not a pool or payout expert.

hey guys im new here was advised to post on this thread.

Im looking for someone that knows what they are talking about in the sense of starting up my own mining setup...have $10,000 AUD to spend on hardware. as well as having unlimited free electricity. if anyone is knowledgeable enough to know what would be the best option to gain maixmum profit would be much appreciated and wont go without reward. thanks

it's easy two steps

1) set up a mining farm
2) point it to kano's pool

"unlimited free electricity"?  Roll Eyes

How is possible if you don't mind that I ask?

In my case I have limited free electricity because my electricity meter at my house broke, so the electric company decided to just average my bill from the past 12 months and keep billing me the same amount. So if I was to setup a room with AC and miners my bill would not increase. Eventually if the meter got replaced I would be feeling the heat LOL.

Another way I have "limited free electricity" is using a datacenter rack that has the power included in the monthly bill which is already covered by services provided by regular servers. The excess electricity is used up by miners. In the past that power was used up by more servers but thank god to virtualization the rack got mostly emptied and replaced by a beast server housing many virtual servers.

I switched from antpool to Kanopool So far so good. The question I have is how much cost to transfer BTC from BTC.com to other wallet such as Coinbase.com. I am still mining in antpool and BTC is automatically transferred to Coinbase with no charge. Why can't Kanopool use Coinbase.com?

I'm mining in Kanopool and I I use coinbase, I put my coinbase wallet ID in the settings in kanopool. Not sure where you got the idea that btc.com had to be used. As I get btc from different sources I use the iphone app from coinbase to check on my wallets there and keep track of payouts from each one. I used their vaults in the past but they are too cumbersome when you really need to get btc out. Which is the whole point of them, so it was mostly my dislike rather than their fault.

So we seem to have a battle for first place, at the top of the hash rate list, between cobramining and blockmines!
I think blockmines might take the lead in the next few days (or sooner) Smiley

Wow, that looks exciting!
How does someone like me go from having a few old miners (S4,S5,S7)  to have PH's worth of mining like cobramining or blockmines? fascinating!
