21  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to avoid bitcoin scams (for newbies) on: August 14, 2018, 12:21:04 PM
If you have any addition to these common tips i gave please let us know.
The tips are nice but I think there is an advice lacking in it. IMO, another tip you can give them is not following the hype most of the time since some newbies follow expert's views blindly. It might not make them lose all of their money but if they always listen to what the general public say about the market, then them losing a substantial amount of money from the mistakes they will make is very likely.
22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy Bitcoin, US Dollar Will Become Worthless: Warns Kim Dotcom on: August 13, 2018, 01:36:26 PM
The dollar has been a trusted currency and is used universally. It is not easy to discount a currency that has built a lot of trust all over the world.
It would not be easy for it to go down but if things go on as is, it is very likely that it will become less valuable. It can lose value real fast like what happened to other currencies in the past that has been long forgotten.
I wonder why people becomes FOMO because of this man tweets Cheesy
people get into this FOMO because they personally believe bitcoin itself, like gold or any other commodity, can be a safe haven for the speculated upcoming economic crisis of US.
23  Economy / Speculation / Re: Big pop up again on: August 12, 2018, 11:31:55 AM
But the issue remains: will it go up from there? Will this bottom go up? Or will the price keeps swinging over it?
This bottom will not go up so long as the main problem(as indicated in the quote below) is still there. Therefore the price will keep swinging over it until the main concern is solved. Nevertheless, I believe we are not seeing the bottom yet because there are no signs of the main problem being solved soon even with all the upcoming ETF approvals.
The main problem is the lack of strong increase in bitcoin demand.
24  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Bitcoin ETF, Is it really needed? on: August 11, 2018, 12:11:21 PM
ETF will help Institutional Investors or other organization to invest in Bitcoin but Bitcoin is meant for P2P transaction and Satoshi did not created it to be used as Investment product.
You've already answered the question. I believe the text in the bold on the quote makes others really excited for the ETF since it will mean more profit to come and is the reason why ETF's have an appeal to the bitcoin community as a whole. Just the thought of speculating how much money institutional investors and other organization will put on it is very appealing, and the thought of price skyrocketing because of it is very enticing.
25  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Unsure of what i need to do for my goals. on: August 10, 2018, 11:34:55 PM
Also, it wouldn't hurt if you will try holding POS coins with potential to last long or grow in the future. That way you would profit while saving electricity since it can run 24/7 even if your gaming PCs are off. Just be careful though, most coins in the market nowadays goes down in value and the chance of them becoming a future shitcoin is high. Research a lot first about POS coins before buying one.
26  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto will underdog the stock market make the rich servants again on: August 09, 2018, 12:01:07 PM
tact the world will be more decentral and the established billionaires lose a lot of power also within their companies to their workers.
They might lose a lot of power but I think established billionaires will still be rich even if that happens. Also, I don't think corporations will truly serve the people, they will still serve the rich people with money(in form of crypto) and cater to their needs even if that time comes.
Do you really think that crypto will hamper or even put a scratch over the stock market at all?
Personally, I think the two might coexist but I think crypto will be able to put a scratch over the stock market if ever both cannot coexist with each other.
27  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The real scam is Coinbase! on: August 07, 2018, 12:18:16 PM
Sorry, there is nothing in the medium link that you posted that suggests that Coinbase is scam! Sounds more like clickbait to me!
Maybe you have missed this part? I am pretty sure that it is suggesting that Coinbase is turning into a scammy exchange:
Quote
Bug in Coinbase systems prevents some exchange users from withdrawing funds
Technical issues led to the inability of some of Coinbase’s users to withdraw their funds. The issues, however, did not cause any exit scamming accusations
Even if that event did not cause any exit scam accusations, it is hinting that coinbase is a scam based on the author's way of presenting the news.
They would have to tell that they would list a certain coin and people will start to pump and dump it.
People pumping and dumping coins is not coinbase's fault, it's the opportunistic traders who make the call. Upon reading the article on the OP, I have concluded that those 40 coins coinbase is planning to add are not that much of a shitcoin and most of them can have a real world use cases in the future.
28  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency marketcap decreases but number of exchanges increases? on: August 06, 2018, 12:01:39 PM
After peaking at approx $800 bil in Dec 2017, cryptocurrency market cap gradually decreased (~ 289 bil on 23 Jul 2018). But in contrast, the number of exchanges increased dramatically during that time.
Market cap is computed by multiplying total supply of all coins times the current prices of each coin. Since most of the market dumped or have gone down in value when compared to their peak prices in December 2017, it is a given that market cap will also decrease. The number of exchanges does not affect the computation of market cap.
29  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can you explain what blockchain is and how easy it is to understand it? on: August 05, 2018, 11:50:52 AM
I want to invest in BTC but I do not know much about blockchain. Reading on the web is a lengthy explanation and hard to understand.
My friends told me that in order to invest in BTC I need to know about blockchain.
I'll try to explain it to you using layman terms as much as possible. To those who will reply after me, just correct me if I am wrong. For now, Let's just say that blockchain in a sense is like a digital logbook which is always distributing information. That information (which is a data about a transaction) is always being broadcasted to a network of computers who validates it. Take note that those computers validating the transaction is not owned by a single entity or group, it is owned by many people in the community and the owners of those computers are called miners. After they validated the information, that verified data(which is permanent and cannot be altered by anyone) will be added to the existing data in the blockchain(the digital logbook) and will be stored on those network of computers. That's how blockchain works.
30  Economy / Speculation / Re: Study Shows Forum Comments Can Predict Bitcoin’s Price with Over 80% Accuracy on: August 04, 2018, 11:53:41 PM
The idea of predicting prices using the "wisdom of the crowd" is ridiculous.
The crowd doesn't have wisdom. Grin
The crowd does not have wisdom, but predicting prices is easier when looking at their opinions when compared to not having a general opinion to base your prediction on. At the very least, you can know what is the current sentiment of the public in the market and you can somehow predict what moves they will take sooner or later. Even if it is inaccurate, it is better than speculating without another basis.
31  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll reveals that 75% of the US investors believe bitcoin is 'very risky' on: August 03, 2018, 11:53:21 AM
It's right to consider Bitcoin risky, I haven't heard of a person that says that Bitcoin is safe, but it's dumb to dismiss Bitcoin because of the risk.
You are right but they are talking about bitcoin being risky in a different scale. They think that it is "very risky" wherein they thought that risk is higher than the chance of them getting returns from their investments when in fact it also has the same risk with putting your money in the bank or investing it into stocks, commodities, real estates and businesses that they can think of.
Ika-nga ng iba, prevention is better than cure.
33  Other / Meta / Re: Why does this users spams undisturbed? on: July 17, 2018, 11:42:22 AM
I did not ban IP otherwise I could not be here to write.
For your information, using VPN(or any other methods to anonymize oneself) to evade an IP ban is a common knowledge to everyone who can fluently use a computer and the internet. You being able to post here is not a good enough proof to prove that your original IP hasn't been banned.
these users pay to spam? What stops the admin from deleting these posts?
They are not paying to spam the forum. The answer to your question(and the reason why they still are not banned) is already answered a while ago:
probably the mods have been quite busy with all these kind of activities.
Moderators are humans, It is unfair to think that they can monitor each and every message posted in the forum as more than 8000 posts are posted in an average day! Therefore as members of the forum whose intentions are on the well being of the forum we must do our part by reporting them!
34  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can I do more than one signature campaign in my account? on: July 15, 2018, 12:30:38 PM
Just rearised that I have attained the height of a Jr member and very excited about this development that I can do more as a member of this forum.
You can learn more about the forum as a member of it because there are a lot of rules and regulations that you must learn. Also, YOU CANNOT JOIN TWO SIGNATURE CAMPAIGNS IN YOUR ACCOUNT AT THE SAME TIME! Nevertheless, you can join two social media bounty campaigns or more simultaneously but it would make your account more susceptible to ban.
35  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin's faith will reach $ 60,000 this year ? Is Impact definite? on: July 13, 2018, 01:07:21 PM
"Back then, December, price was at a $20,000 all-time high. I predicted for 2018, we're going to see $5,000 and $60,000. So $5,000, we’ve pretty much hit it, so let's see if we can do the $60,000. I'm still quite confident." by TEN-X Co Founder  ( in article : https://cointelegraph.com/news/tenx-co-founder-still-quite-confident-bitcoin-can-hit-60-000-this-year )
It is possible for bitcoin to reach the speculated price if it rose to 15,000$ in the start of September. The impact of that statement is not definite because a co-founder of a project would not affect the price of bitcoin at all.
A lot has change and we are not in the bullish trend right now so its going to be very difficult to even hit $10K.
Not being in a bullish trend doesn't mean that it would be very difficult to hit 10,000$. In fact, it is possible that we would reach it sooner than expected and the chance of it happening is higher when bitcoin has been on a prolonged bearish trend.
36  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm just thinking about to give away to my 4-year-old nephew a 0.01 BTC on: July 12, 2018, 09:58:01 PM
Do you think 0.01 BTC it's enough? I really can't imagine how much could it value from 15 years to now
Just add a little bit from it like giving him 0.02 BTC instead of 0.01 BTC. At the very least, I can say that it will either be worth ten times more or greater than it's worth now or it will be worthless in the future because of unforeseen factors. Either way, just the thought of it being planned now will surely make your nephew happy when he becomes 18 years old in the future.
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What percent of ICO's are scam, on your opinion? on: July 09, 2018, 01:44:40 PM
Is there any statistic about what percent of ICO are scam?
I believe this article that I am about to mention will answer your question. According to statistics, roughly 80% of ICO's nowadays are scams and only 8% reaches an exchange. Another source claims that 81% of ICO's eventually become scam but since the former one is the more credible source, let's stick with it but for comparisons' sake, feel free to read both articles.
38  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: how many dollars to raise the price of 1BTC of 1$? on: July 08, 2018, 10:57:01 AM
BTC is 5999USD. A seller (A) has a huge selling order, say 1 billion at 6000USD. None else is selling lower in this very moment.
Say that there is an amount of buyers ready to buy at 6000USD but all of them together can't eat the A's entire selling order. Say that all of them together can eat 750 millions.
Will A's order be put on hold? Can the exchange sell just 3/4 of A's order? How does it work?
They would just eat up a portion of A's order and it will remain there so long as A does not cancel it. A's funds(in this case, A's bitcoins that are equals to 1 billion$ at 6000$)  will be put on hold and he would be given USD for every successful buy order(equivalent to what the buyer have paid for minus fees) until it is all sold and if ever A canceled it, the exchange would return those bitcoins that haven't been bought by buyers.
39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency Virtually Outlawed in India as Supreme Court Backs Ban on: July 07, 2018, 11:53:20 PM
This is not a ban on cryptocurrency, just a restriction on banking services available to crypto-related businesses.
It just shows how banks(some of them) fear that bitcoin will take away a lot of profit from them. I do hope they will follow Switzerland's move to take advantage of crypto(by liberalizing cryptocurrency banking access of crypto-related business) instead of trying to ban it.
Unfortunately, people are concentrating their effort on fighting the RBI decision, with really no chance of success rather than putting pressure on the parliament in creating a legal environment for cryptocurrencies.
The parliament will create a legal environment for cryptocurrencies if they really want to, whether they like it or not(and vice-versa). Thus, I see no reason for them to pressure the parliament about it.
40  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Who Can Explain Blockchain to 5th Graders? on: July 06, 2018, 11:51:39 PM
Can someone please try to breakdown the explanation of blockchain to the point where a 5th grader can understand it? Thanks!
Just use the references given by the user above to explain blockchain to the point where a 5th grader can understand it, just be sure to use layman terms instead of using words that are difficult to understand for them to understand it better. For example, instead of using peer-to-peer, use person-to-person because it would be easier for a 5th grader to understand it. Ao
