Could you post output of ./configure ?

Looked for Panthers @ Canadiens but could not find it during the intermission.

i see your point, but: no, withdraws from an exchange is not voluntary. remember: you only on coins if you own the privkeys?

Yeah you are right about that. Poloniex can do whatever they want. But it would good for business if they implemented an option where you could change the mixin count.
Otherwise they might lose customers.

Personally I have no need for such a high mixin count on Poloniex. Why should I pay extra for increased privacy that I don't need?
If I send XMR to myself via simplewallet I can choose mixin count. Seems logical that Poloniex would allow me to as well.
At least lower it, 3 seems a bit high.

AFAIK if there are many transactions with a high mixin the overall anon of xmr rises.

Yes I understand that.
But it's voluntary to contribute to this added "anon" right? Otherwise what would be the point in allowing people to set mixin 0 in simplewallet?

Maybe Poloniex could allow people to lower it but having a minimum mixin of 1? That would be a good compromise.

There needs to be a decent mixing count in order to increase the anonymity of the network.

Why can't they implement an option where you can choose mixin count yourself?

I don't need to buy a new laptop for this do I Roll Eyes Wink Huh

Increasing the block limit will not increase transactions or bloat by itself. Further adoption  certainly would and thus if you have to worry about upgrading your laptops HD to store a full node you will certainly have the funds to do so because bitcoin would be much more valuable or you could just run a pruned node which is going to be offered in 0.11

Isn't pruning available in 0.10?
208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 20MB Fork on: February 15, 2015, 11:53:51 PM
Consequently, 'Gavincoin' as you're calling it WILL NEVER EXIST unless 95% of miners are ready and willing to abandon 'MPcoin'.

This is very interesting. So is this in the source code? That the fork will only happen if 95% of the miners switch. Kinda like the 21 million bitcoin limit.

209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 20MB Fork on: February 15, 2015, 09:43:14 PM
Now bitcoin is in the hands of #bitcoin-assets, regardless of how you'd all like to pretend they don't exist. When you're done throwing your little tantrums, you can begin the process of becoming a real person.

There has been several posts made about MPcoin being useless because blocks would be too slow etc...
Care to comment on that? You seem fairly confident MPcoin is going to win the "war".

Have we tried increasing the block size limit on a test coin yet?  We should make sure the functions operate as expected under high and bursts of saturation workloads.

Here: http://gavintech.blogspot.com/2015/01/twenty-megabytes-testing-results.html

Quote
After consensus reached: replace MAX_BLOCK_SIZE with a size calculated based on starting at 2^24 bytes (~16.7MB) as of 1 Jan 2015 (block 336,861) and doubling every 6*24*365*2 blocks -- about 40% year-on-year growth. Stopping after 10 doublings.

Forgive me for being stupid but does this mean that the maximum block size will increase automatically? 40% every year and then it will stop after reaching 20MB^10?
I'm not good at math...

211  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 20MB Fork on: February 10, 2015, 12:52:14 AM
Lets implement a maximum block size that can adjust to what is needed rather than just guessing at what might be needed?  Lets build a protocol for the next 100 years, not the next 100 weeks?  I think we can do better, and we currently have the time to do so.

Yes, I agree with this. This seems a bit rushed. And why 20MB? Seems like an odd number. Anyone willing to explain?

212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 20MB Fork on: February 07, 2015, 04:40:11 PM
By the way, the thread is going way too off-topic. It was concluded in another thread that a fork is the right move.

What other thread?
213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 20MB Fork on: February 03, 2015, 11:09:47 PM
Both forks will be worthless. There will be no winning fork.
That's also a very likely possibility, but only if everything splits into 2.
If 90% people go with the fork, the ones left behind will lose though.

And how can you verify 90% consensus?
This poll?

Have a great SuperBowl day guys! Smiley

To you too. I wish they won't run it on a Saturday afternoon in the US, as that makes it the night to Monday for Europe and Africa, which is just very inconvenient. Why not Saturday afternoon? Sad

Agree 100%, will be watching the game by myself since everyone else is going to work tomorrow morning.

I have question for Monero devs. Or anyone with knowledge I guess.

Do you follow the Bitcoin "hardfork" debate?
Maybe it's just drama but I think it's quite worrying that there is no consensus.

Will we find ourselves in a similar situation with Monero in a couple of years? I guess there is a hard limit on block size now.
Is it big enough to support a large network? If not will a change require a hardfork?

There is no block size limit in XMR.

Correct, but other hard fork issues could certainly turn political. We recently had a months long discussion about changing the emission schedule, and I wouldn't rule out other such disagreements in the future.

A hard protocol-imposed block size and capacity limit is one thing we don't have to worry about.

Ok good to know, I do think emission issues are easier to understand. I personally favor as low inflation as possible. If a hard fork was made that increased the inflation I would just stop using XMR.
The Bitcoin block size issue is just harder for me to comprehend. Not sure what I would do if a hard fork really happened.

I've asked this question in a few other threads but have gotten no responses.  Is there anybody that knows of an Android miner for phones?  I have a few old Android phones laying around and would be curious to mess around with it see what they could hash.

If you can get Linux on them phones you can try and compile Lucas miner.
Don't know if it'll work or not but worth a shot.
218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fork off on: January 25, 2015, 05:06:56 PM
Will the maximum block size be scalable without hard forking if they decide to fork Bitcoin?
If not, won't this "issue" pop up again when transactions fill up the 20MB block size limit?

So what happened to this bookie? Did he become the new bitcoinsports.eu?
What a joke, bad nights happens to all bookies. If you are in the gambling business you're bankroll should be LARGE.
You can't start a business with a 10K bankroll hoping you will do good first few months...

220  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fork off on: January 20, 2015, 11:28:20 PM
So much vitriol in this thread.  Normally the consensus around here is that the free market is king and that natural selection means everything will either live or die on it's merits.  But as soon as the topic of a hard fork comes up, forcing the market to choose which one to use, suddenly it's all "there's only one valid choice and everyone else is wrong, so let's start throwing insults around".   Roll Eyes

Agree, disagree, whatever.  Ultimately it doesn't matter because the market will decide.

I wonder what the future holds for Bitcoin if the community cannot reach consensus on these types of forks.
Will we have separate coins all the time? With the same name?

Central planning worries me. What happens if Gavin or someone else wants to change the supply of bitcoins?
