I may be hated for saying this, but what's currently happening in the mempool is a feature...
What's currently happening might be a feature, but it's a feature of spam that's abusing the network for its selfish reasons.

I heard a good comparison between Ordinals/Runes and telemarketing spam. Telemarketers are also using telecommunication networks the way they were intended. They pay their bills and purchase the needed hardware to make calls. But what happens then? They spam. You get a call to talk about Jesus, saving the planet, investing in this or that, or they inform you of a lottery you won or can participate in. Most people don't like them. You hang up the phone, you block their numbers.. you censor them. If this trend doesn't end, that's what needs to happen. You find a way to put them in the garbage bin. That's where garbage goes.

Why? Because Bitcoin's purpose is to be a
Quote
A purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution.
https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

If blocks are only filled by 10%, 20% or 30% with P2P online payments of digital cash, then something has seriously gone wrong. I have no problem with a free and competing fees market. That's how it's supposed to be. If you are willing to pay more than me to make an online P2P payment of electronic cash, then all the power to you my brother. I will have to wait my turn or reach deeper inside my own pockets to offer a competitive fee rate. What I don't believe anyone should have to do is to compete with spammers who are not making P2P online payments with electronic cash, and are taking away many of the features that normal people love. With those, I mean a cheap, fast, and borderless way of sending payments in any amounts you want.
203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Apr 2024] Fees are HIGH, wait for opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: April 21, 2024, 07:52:41 AM
But do you think this madness is sustainable over time?
Not in this quantity. Only time will tell. The Ordinals attack has been going on for 1.5 years already. People have gotten tired of it, and now we have something else those good-for-nothings are throwing their money on which is obviously attracting the wrong type of people to Bitcoin.

Those who overpay for putting images of bananas in the blockhain can do it for two reasons, for the revenge of not having increased the size of the blocks or because you hope that someone more retarded than you will pay you much more money in the future for the bananas (or both).
It's both.

What truely amazes me is that people are willing to pay the spammers for this. It must be profitable, which means the tens of millions of dollars they pay per day are paid by their victims. Who are those people who'd rather "invest" in a made-up story about unique satoshis than just buy real Bitcoin?
You know the saying: "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups". I think it was George Carlin who said that.
204  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Play a browser game Earn Bitcoin/Etherum and MMOrpg stuff on: April 21, 2024, 07:37:44 AM
I wanted to see how it looks but all I get is a blank Index page. I couldn't figure out more from the screenshot you posted. What's the idea here? What story are you trying to create to attract players to participate? Is it about buying and selling digital property?
205  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] bitcoindata.science | sponsored by BC.Game on: April 21, 2024, 07:06:39 AM
Stable coins is indeed interesting, but there are so many options... usdt erc20, trn20, bep20, etc etc..
I know. Everyone wants a piece of the action. I would say stick to the two most popular versions, which are USDT on Tron and Ethereum. DAI is another viable option due to its inability to be censored and frozen by the issuer like all other stablecoins.
206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Apr 2024] Fees are HIGH, wait for opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: April 21, 2024, 07:02:26 AM
We don't know for sure if it's a conspiracy against BTC (do BCH/BSV lovers still hodl sizeable amounts of "worthless" BTC?), but it could be a (slight?) possibility, I guess.
It isn't their only motivation, but it is one of them. I remember watching a podcast back when Ordinals were just in their beginning stage. Some big-blocker spammer was talking about the scalability issues of the main protocol and how they wanted to fix it but couldn't. He said something like, you wanted to keep Bitcoin in its current state, here you go, enjoy Ordinals. We wouldn't have these congestions if the community accepted a block size increase. That's the impression and overall feeling I took from that video.

I know Bitcoin currently can't scale to 100 million daily users. But we won't get anywhere near that if currently only a few real transactions per block can get confirmed. Maybe I'm naive, but I don't think it's right that commercial spammers are destroying Bitcoin's usability.
Same here! And that's what they are, spammers. They might be following consensus rules, but they are sill filling up blocks with spam and not with the transactions the blockchain was meant for. We currently don't have many P2P monetary transfers of digital coins in blocks. So, Bitcoin isn't really functioning as it's supposed to. Before someone says, yes it is, I don't consider having to pay 150 sat/vByte to move my coins a normal operation just because someone out there is posting bananas and is willing to overpay for it.
207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need help identifying wallet file from 2010 MS DOS mining! on: April 20, 2024, 04:00:19 PM
It was all done through cmd msdos, at that time I didnt know about any wallets, just followed a guide cluelessly from THIS VERY WEBSITE to set it all up and mine. Most of early posts on these forums dont exist anymore somewhow.
The forum has all the old posts. Just check satoshi's conversations back from 2009-2010. They are there. You have the posts that Hal Finney made. You can find legendary posts like the 10,000 BTCs for two pizzas or the Hodl post.

If the post with download links to the MS DOS software no longer exists, it could have been deleted because it was a scam or the software was infected with malware. Posts on Bitcointalk get deleted if they break one or more rules. Sorry to say, but I think you were scammed.
208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Apr 2024] Fees are HIGH, wait for opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: April 20, 2024, 03:53:15 PM
Bigger blocks aren't going to resolve this.
My post wasn't an argument to increase the block size. I think you misunderstood me. When I said the big blockers are going to win, I meant Ordinals, Runes, and whatever else they come up with in the future, is their way of punishing and attacking Bitcoin for not getting their way. And they wanted bigger blocks. Because they didn't get it, they are now spamming the network proving to everyone that Bitcoin can't be used in its current form.
209  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] bitcoindata.science | sponsored by BC.Game on: April 20, 2024, 10:54:29 AM
The problem seems to appear very randomly and not that often. As soon as I hit a couple of refreshes the page loaded up fine to me afterwards and hasn't stop since. Probably has to do with some extensions that I use as well, like others said.
Here is an idea: copy the code you posted and paste it into ChatGPT. Ask it to analyze the code and explain what it says and what could be causing it. Maybe the AI bot could shed some more light on it. From what I know, ChatGPT can read and generate code.
210  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Ambulance - Campaign - Ukraine on: April 20, 2024, 10:50:30 AM
If some Bitcointalk members can chip in a few dollars, we would be very happy.  Smiley
Due to the current situation of the Bitcoin network, sending a few dollars right now is very costly. For example, that donation you sent a few days ago and paid about $2 in fees, would now cost you about $50 for a reasonably quick confirmation. I don't think many people will do that.

derBowler also accepts Ethereum, which is a better option now. He should consider stablecoins as well. If not USDT and USDC, at least the decentralized DAI.
211  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] bitcoindata.science | sponsored by BC.Game on: April 20, 2024, 10:28:49 AM
While it doesn't happen to me often, in some rare instances when I try to access the website I am presented with the following message...
I don't see it on my end, even with a VPN and two ad-blockers active in my browser.

@bitmover
I have noticed that you accept bitcoin and liquid bitcoin for donations, but not transactions over the Lightning Network. Perhaps some people would donate over LN if that option existed. I know it's not popular, but consider adding a stablecoin as well. Whether we like them or not, they are a sizable share of the market.
212  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Trust and transparency in crypto? on: April 20, 2024, 10:18:02 AM
Our goal is to determine how can we truly trust the financial institution that hold our money, specifically around the crypto market but broadly around all financial institutions.
We can't! That's why we have Bitcoin. Those are two different worlds. Traditional finance requires absolute control, and is susceptible to fraud and manipulation. Not to mention the dangers of centralizing data and money under one roof. With Bitcoin, everyone controls their own fate, and I don't have to trust you to do the right thing. If you mess something up on your end, it doesn't affect me or the money I control.
213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Apr 2024] Fees are HIGH, wait for opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: April 20, 2024, 09:57:16 AM
That's it. I declare Bitcoin broken at the moment Sad
I have never been more pro censorship or some type of restriction than right now, and at this point, I am not even ashamed to admit it. A solution has to be found or else the big-blocker monkey men have won. It's going to become impossible to recommend to new people to use Bitcoin and explain the benefits of it. When the obvious question appears, how much does it cost to send a bitcoin transaction, you can throw all your decentralization and control of your money arguments out of the window.
214  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I was hacked today and all my bitcoin was stolen on: April 20, 2024, 07:21:22 AM
I was asking for help on the reddit page linked to electrum for help and obviously the help I received led to me losing all my bitcoin.
What I don't understand is what kind of help you needed with the wallet that would make you hand over your keys by entering them in a phishing website?

Your second post is very confusing. Seems like you were waiting for a transaction and somehow you got a message that you are already receiving some coins?! Message by who or what? Electrum isn't going to tell you to wait. A person probably did. I am sorry to say, but you seem to have done many things wrong, and this isn't the fault of Bitcoin or Electrum.

And we still expect to see mass crypto adoption… this is another example that shows us why it is still an unrealistic expectation. Imagine grandpa’s and grandma’s guarding their own private keys.
Grandpas and grandmas have an "expiration date". This technology isn't for them. It's for their children and grandchildren. It's also for those grandpas and grandmas that are capable of acquiring new knowledge.

We can't have mass adoption when the average person has below-average intelligence and is completely unconscious of everything around them that can be a threat to their security. Common sense can prevent many social engineering scams, and that's what this is. It was hacking that lead to the coins being lost. It was OP giving them away. I am not trying to kick a person while they are lying down, but this could have easily been prevented.
215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need Advice Securing Bitcoin Core Wallet Any Tips? on: April 19, 2024, 05:01:02 PM
I want to know details about the secure element chip. Can you please elaborate on the cryptographic protocols employed by the secure element chip within the hardware wallet to protect users' private keys and sensitive data?
This isn't really the place to discuss hardware wallets or secure elements, but since you brought it up... A secure element is a safe enclosure for your private keys. They stay safely on the chip to prevent outside access. The data is encrypted and only decrypted when needed. Random number generators create the private keys in a fair and unbiased manner.

I am not sure if that answers your question. You can read Secure Elements in Hardware Wallets for more information.
216  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need help identifying wallet file from 2010 MS DOS mining! on: April 19, 2024, 02:17:14 PM
Was there no setup of a wallet with the software you used back then? Do you remember ever creating a wallet? Did you ever have a Bitcoin address that your mining rewards went to that you could check on a blockchain explorer to verify that there were real coins there? What about private keys, did you ever save them somewhere?

Do you know anyone else who mined using the same software like you did who actually got some bitcoins?

A quick google search found nothing about your mysterious DOS mining software. There are articles about some Russian who developed a DOS program for a 1980s computer, but that's new and different from what you claim to have used.
217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need Advice Securing Bitcoin Core Wallet Any Tips? on: April 19, 2024, 02:02:29 PM
And few hardware wallet is completely open (both hardware and software), where theoretically you could verify everything assuming you have time and skill to do that.
Any hardware wallet that has a secure element chip, and most of them do, can't be called open-source hardware-wise. The proper term would be as open-source as possible, something that Trezor used in one of its public communications a long time ago when the info about them creating their own secure element was fresh. I think even Foundation describes their products as having fully open-source hardware and software.
218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Mar 2024] Fees are lower, wait for opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: April 19, 2024, 01:47:45 PM
Besides, it's less than 50% they're "losing". Earlier drops in Bitcoin price (around 80%) had a much larger effect on their earnings. Blocks will be fine.
And don't forget that they have been earning much more from transaction fees ever since the Ordinals spam began. And that is going to continue after the halving, plus with the added spam from RUNES. I do agree with NapHappy's logic that some older and unprofitable miners will be shut down. Let's just hope it won't have too big of an impact.

Still, I'll bet that the average fees for the 2 weeks post halving will be 50% higher than the average fees for the 2 weeks pre-halving.
The pre-halving fees have been pretty volatile lately as well. We have had periods where you needed 100 to 150 sat/vByte for a quick confirmation, but right now that's down to 60 sat/vByte.
219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need Advice Securing Bitcoin Core Wallet Any Tips? on: April 18, 2024, 03:59:21 PM
You are using your Bitcoin Core software where your private keys are on an internet-connected computer, so you are already much less secure than you could be if you took advantage of its airgapped capabilities.
Since it's a hot wallet, you can at least try to control what you do with that computer. If I were you, I would stop using it for any everyday activities online. Get a different laptop for that. For instance, I have a separate laptop I only use for my financials. I have never done anything else with it. It has never even had a USB connected to it that I use with my other computers.
220  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: (Help) I'm trying to get my private keys on: April 18, 2024, 03:45:33 PM
If you can't download and synchronize the whole blockchain because you are lacking storage and you can't even run the Bitcoin Core software properly due to an outdated computer, it should be pretty clear to you that you should forget about Bitcoin Core and running a node at this stage. As others have explained, install a light client like Electrum and import the private keys of your funded addresses.

In the future, if you want to to run your own node, get a normal internet subscription and a better desktop machine that will work flawlessly.
