201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient HDD Mining | New 1.2.2 Automated Transactions on: March 05, 2015, 05:33:02 PM
One year since Mt Gox but a lot of people seem to have forgotten: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2892892/one-year-later-were-no-closer-to-finding-mtgoxs-missing-millions.html

Anyone keeping millions of Burst on the exchanges.. Please move it to another account controlled by you and only you. Only keep money there when trading. An exchange hack could be a disaster at the moment for us if it's poloniex or bittrex.

Yea, the hard part about this is my day trader cash. You kinda have to keep some there.

Agreed.. just have to be careful about how much is on the exchange versus in your wallet and ideally split it between exchanges.

I was thinking about crypto exchanges we should be present with Burst.

Do we have Asian guys here in the community?
There is a OP translation in Japanese, but not in Mandarin afaik. The Chinese Bitcoin Market seems to have huuuge volumes.

The only Chinese altcoin exchange I know of is Bter.

Everyone who trades on Bter should make a point of upvoting the coin on a regular basis.

The dev. Just one Cheesy

Just one?  Wow, must be a busy person.

I'd call vbecas a dev too.. in fact we've got lots of devs, only one core dev dedicated to burst.. unless you count the Nxt team, who's updates are often merged in.

Would it be possible for anyone to create an AT that allows automated sports betting by using a results API from ESPN? Would of been awesome to of bet BURST on the outcome of the superbowl. I would of lost though  Grin

Here's the problem.. maybe not unsolvable and would be curious to hear your thoughts.  How can you get in the decentralized results into the blockchain in a trustless manner?  Or would you prefer to trust a message coming from a specific address, such as ESPN?

Not saying it's impossible.. but it becomes a tricky problem.

My thought is that maybe you could pay miners to pull in the data and use a decentralized feed, that operates similar to the decentralized timestamps.  Probably could even all pull from the same feed.  Would need to allow miners to say that they don't want to participate though or you could have bigger problems.

Nice comment , I follow BURST and XMG as well , they have real idea , algo , and value and at the right moment the market will explode Smiley

Cool~~ same to me, I like both BURST and XMG  Grin

I'd be a little wary of XMG.. I don't see how they actually achieve ASIC resistance in any sort of way that can last.  If they get to BTC size.. you can totally start mining with ASICs.  Just can't start them up all at once or have them mine to the same address if you have a big ASIC farm/pool... but does that really stop them?  idk.. I don't buy it.  And since they are using Proof of Stake.. they have the same blockchain trimming problem.  I'm convinced it's impossible to trim the Proof of Stake blockchain with nearly the same level of trust and compression you can get from POC or POW.

Burst is still my favorite coin by far.  More energy efficient as well.. it can mine in the background and doesn't need your CPU constantly running at full power 24/7 to mine either.

Just deployed my first crowdfund project.

if i load now the atcrowdfund.html,
i got the following problems: What means this NaN

for the amount i choosed 150000
and time 2 weeks....

Creative!  Very nice to see we have someone new capable of writing ATs as well!

ATDevelopmentFund
The purpose of this case is to provide funding to help extend the technical work and general product development and marketing for AT inside the burst platform.

The ATDevFund is asking for 1,000,000 BURST, and already +20% is collected (among them my lottery winnings, as I promised...).

I'm not pointing to this case because I'd like some devs being richer or being able to launch scam coin.

Remember that BURST was launched without any pre-mine, without any IPO/ICO - so damn many people are working for free with this coins to, quoting that article, being: "once again, one step ahead of the competition". BURST didn't make any promises to collect a single damn BTC. The devs have just worked and worked - and shown result after result after result.

People have not only worked for free but also but their own money into this project, and we are many that made some decent money off that. That's the reason I donated a, for some, kinda large sum tonight, and for some, just peanuts.

The sum that you are donating really doesn't matter. It's the act of donating that is more important, showing those working hard for free that you really appreciate what they are doing. And will be doing.

As someone with a bit of insight on what is coming up, I know you and the market will love it when it is completed by these awesome guys. So please considering a donation to the ATDevelopmentFund and filling that 1mill cap!

While doing so, we'll also make sure that the crowdfunding case is working properly, a news on its own.

Would be happy to donate.. haven't been paying as much attention as I'd like though.  How can I donate?  There is a wallet address to send money to to trigger it, right?  Which address is that?

And what are the rules?  On which block are donations returned if the goal is not reached.

Thanks.

I finally managed to deploy a crowdfunding AT for my project at BURST-RUL4-HV8X-C2US-79AAU:
Quote
zRMicroArray is a gene expression analysis software, which implements all of the functionalities, needed for preprocessing and statistically analyzing single-color cDNA microarray data. The software is free for noncommercial use and it allows scientific laboratories, institutes, universities, students, etc. to reduce their budget on expensive software and concentrate it on research and experiments. The current fully working version should be rewritten based on 5 years of user experience and feedback. Support for Next Generation Sequencing data should be implemented and additional graphical representations of the data and results would contribute big to the software. Donations will help to make zRMicroArray a viable tool for a researcher to find a cure or a better and cheaper diagnostics for a disease, and could lead to better understanding of the underlying regulatory mechanisms of the living cell. Details: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=932075.0
Project details: zRMicroArray (bitcointalk)
Inspirational video: The Inner Life of the Cell (Harvard University) (watch it with sound)

Looks like a very interesting project.. probably won't be participating due to this clause though:
"Donations (if any) will be converted to XMR and kept there until a substantial amount is reached."

Btw, would be nice if you had a goal that you actually needed to reach somewhere, so we knew how much you actually needed and how realistic it would be to raise that much.

Okay, let's separate this into the troll / steal arguments.

Troll - am I a troll for proclaiming the truth and calling people idiots when they blindly and naively keep dumping money into trying to mine crap coins that have no future?  I speak the truth.  I may have no diplomacy and I may offend people in my way of addressing these matters, but I'm not wrong in my assertions about the coins!

Steal - is it really?  If someone calls me to work on their computer, and they didn't know there was a bitcoin wallet on it, or they did know and thought it was useless, then I am not stealing, I am merely capitalizing on their ignorance for my own personal profit.  Somehow, I think that sounds better than "stealing".  So far I have not found any Bitcoin wallets, and I do check the appdata folders on every PC I get called to look at.

If I didn't save those coins and put them back in circulation, the computer likely would eventually be turned off and thrown away with those coins still on it.  And if I can make a little profit on the side, then what the hell, why not? Wink

How do you know that they will eventually lose their BTC?  Maybe they'd be just fine for a long time to come.

And regarding this price rise, keep in mind that it wasn't immediately after DPOS and the BitUSD were released that BitShares had a big price jump.. took a couple weeks..  point being, I think we're only at the beginning from the AT effect.  Give Burst one or two more positive things happening soon and we're going to explode onto the scene big time.  Though personally, I think the slower the better..  I think we really need to get more programmers on board at this price for this coin to have long term potential.  More marketers would be nice too.

So again, everyone please reach out to other developers and try to get them invested, maybe we should reach out to Nxt developers again?  Other developers in this field?  Even your programmer friends looking for projects to work on in their spare time.

One project that would be particularly nice would be a nicer plotter/miner tool.  Give it a file location, plot size, and wallet address and it does the rest for you.

How do you install the windows wallet?

Yeah.. that would be another nice one.  We do have permission to port over Nxt's 'Wesley Wallet'   Probably wouldn't be that hard either...

This is set to go crazy soon, it has been slept on for too long.

Few questions...I'm new to your community. Great coin. Is this based off Microsofts whitepaper? Also how many coins will exist and when will they all be in circulation? Do you guys ever see this coin hitting .... .1? Or $1?

Sidenote: I can't figure out how to install the wallet

I see it hitting $100 some day.. granted that'll be a while and who knows what could happen on the mean time to challenge that. This coin has a lot of advantages over POW and POS though.. and I'm in it for the long run.

Different topic, apparently people in the poloniex troll box are calling Burst a ponzei scheme. Might be worth having a couple people go over there and discuss the advantages of Burst and why you think it'll survive in the long run.

All very nice, thanks mmmaybe!  Would be nice to get that email list going and send out short updates like this.

Regarding the download of the blockchain.. on the one hand I like it, on the other... does that defeat the decentralization of the network?

Interesting discuss with Vitalik in the comments here, other, especially those with a technical background may want to weigh in:

And fyi, happy to post for anyone who wants to post anonymously...  just send me a PM with your post.

Back from vacation!

The first article has been published on Automated Transactions and Smart Contracts. We did have contact with the reporter but be never asked any questions or  had the decency to send the article to us for comments before publishing. We made a few remarks in the comment field below the article, both on that and the content.

http://insidebitcoins.com/news/alternative-cryptocurrency-claims-to-have-won-the-race-to-smart-contracts/29152

They should have interviewed the Dev. Piss poor journalism.

Maybe could've been better but I think that we should be applauding their work.. still a good article for Burst and should be appreciated so others are encouraged to write articles about Burst.

Also, nice to hear that POC2 is progressing nicely. Smiley

One comment, Nxt did solve the nothing at stake problem regarding mining in multiple chains to my satisfaction.. simple trick, if a miner doesn't see a block within 15(or X) seconds then don't count it's difficulty in your calculation when choosing which chain to build off of.  Suddenly those chains are ignored and similar to how the shortest chain is ignored, miners are forced into mining for the correct chain because mining for other chaiuns ill simply be ignored by the rest of the network.  One other huge security advantage over POS, no possibility of a history key attack.

is there any way i can buy burst with real money?

You saying cryptocurrencies, like Bitcoin, aren't real money?
218  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient HDD Mining | New 1.2.0 Automated Transactions on: January 13, 2015, 06:16:13 PM
Hey everyone, Nxt's "Wesley Wallet" is open source.  It's a one click install solution that doesn't require someone being as techy just to start the wallet.  Pretty too.

Anyone have time to get it working with Burst?

Here's the link: https://bitbucket.org/nxt-wallet

I started writing an article about why Proof of Capacity is the ideal mining algorithm.. I want to hear the thoughts of others before I go to far so I can integrate them if wanted, why do you think so?

I'm thinking:
- Secure
- Energy Efficient
- ASIC Proof
- More decentralized (probably mostly due to ASIC Proofness)

What else?
220  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient HDD Mining | New 1.2.0 Automated Transactions on: January 07, 2015, 02:07:14 PM
burst vs m7m?
I say Burst, I read their description of the algo, haven't looked into it or thought it through throughly m7m may protect against GPU mining.. though I could easily see a GPU that handles double precision being released in the not too distant future, but it certainly isn't ASIC resistant. And their efforts to frustrated CPU data centers seem like they would only lead to the datacenter slowly adding new computers instead of all at once and having each one mine to a separate address.

Would be interesting to hear Magi's communities thoughts on the question.
