201  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-03-15]DirectPool: Next Generation Mining Pool for Bitcoin that Gives Back! on: March 15, 2014, 07:45:38 PM
"funding bitcoin related projects" is rather vague.  What if the owner has a project and funnels all the BTC to himself?  I'd rather see it go to an established organization and that organization be mentioned upfront.

You're absolutely correct. And that is where BBA comes. They will handle all the donation funds. Also from what i know, DirectPool will have BBA accept applications by any bitcoin related startup or project/company looking for funds. Then BBA will review each of them carefully before putting up a Poll on DirectPool.net. About 3 or 4 companies will be on that Poll and it will be the MINERS who will decide who gets the funding, not the pool operators. This is why i love this project. Miners will vote for the bitcoin project they feel is worthy the most and that company will get fundings.

This mining pool definitely has my support. I haven't seen any bitcoin pools that are involved in such project... giving back to the community in this manner is just perfect. And especially when BBA is involved in this project... these guys are definitely legit.. 1% pool fee and any donations goto "funding bitcoin related projects"... can't go wrong with that.. can't wait to connect my knc Neptunes!!

I've posted the press release from your website here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=515834.0 I wasn't expecting this..so I have to say that i'm surprised that you guys are working with BBA to raise donations through this pool to be used for funding bitcoin startup projects... that's really good and noble in my books. Wish you all the best!! and will support you with your pool with my miners.  Cool

TL:DR - is this the same thing as Devcoin?

No this is a strictly Bitcoin + NMC merge mining only pool

right, but is the concept any different?

I don't understand what you're asking exactly.. What do you mean "concept any different"? You should read the news to understand what's going on... thx  Smiley

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Next Generation Bitcoin Mining Pool that Gives Back

New Bitcoin Pool enters the Mining Arena

New York, NY, March 14, 2014 – Directpool.net officially launched a Bitcoin Mining Pool with a 1% pool fee. Registration to the pool is open to all miners.

Directpool founders brought together a skilled team to provide a Bitcoin pool that will match the services of larger pools and further distribute hashing power. The pool is merge mine ready for Namecoin so miners get rewarded with two coins not just Bitcoins. It features a PPLNS payment system and variable difficulty for better worker load. The team is fully capable of keeping miners’ information and bitcoins safe by using responsible security practices. Directpool sits behind a fully Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection to make sure miners information stays encrypted and implemented DDOS mitigation for robustness.

The main goal behind starting Directpool was that the founders wanted to give back to the Bitcoin community as that is the key to the future of Bitcoin itself. They have taken the initiative to fund Bitcoin related projects through any donation that may be collected at Directpool. Directpool is collaborating with Bitcoin Business Alliance (BBA) to work out a structure to handle the donations for worthy projects. More information on this will be provided in the near future.

Donald (x3maniac), lead developer:

"Directpool's focus is to serve the bitcoin mining community, since we are all miners to begin with. I joined this project to ensure that the bitcoin mining community has an awesome pool that is extremely reliable and secure. Thanks to our web development team, the website looks neat and fresh. I like how my stats are displayed and I can easily access the most used features of the pool in the Quick Stats menu."

The Bitcoin community raised concerns about a pool reaching the 51% network hashpower. That pool can potentially control double-spend transactions, effect confirmations and prevent miners from mining valid blocks. Satoshi himself was opposed to centralization of Bitcoin protocol. The pool had responded by limiting new miners to their respective pool all the way to raising pool fees. Ultimately, the choice for miners was to move their equipment to other pools to greater diversify hash power across the network. A mining pool’s purpose should be to expand bitcoin to better the economic structure. This is where Directpool comes in as the next generation mining pool to further redistribute total network hashrate while giving back to the Bitcoin community.

About Directpool

Directpool.net is a modified version of Eloipool Engine which is capable of handling computing power from GPUs to the largest of ASIC equipment as well as any size mining farm. The pool is running on private dedicated equipment and moderated by talented admins to make it safe, secure, and highly stable. For further information please visit DirectPool.net

Yep. thanks for this article.

I like this quote "Right now regulation, using current legislation may lead to the unfair taxing of bitcoin users. If it is going to be done then taxation needs to be done fairly. Right now we can be sure that the road to regulation will be rocky, and maybe that was something cleverly built into the  design."

good quote for sure.. the regulators are trying to regulate something futuristic with old laws.. they will make mistakes and some that will be costly to the innovation of bitcoin
