This mining pool definitely has my support. I haven't seen any bitcoin pools that are involved in such project... giving back to the community in this manner is just perfect. And especially when BBA is involved in this project... these guys are definitely legit.. 1% pool fee and any donations goto "funding bitcoin related projects"... can't go wrong with that.. can't wait to connect my knc Neptunes!!

Anyone else gonna be supporting this awesome pool?  Cool Cool

edit:

props to CoinReport for covering this!

"funding bitcoin related projects" is rather vague.  What if the owner has a project and funnels all the BTC to himself?  I'd rather see it go to an established organization and that organization be mentioned upfront.

You're absolutely correct. And that is where BBA comes. They will handle all the donation funds. Also from what i know, DirectPool will have BBA accept applications by any bitcoin related startup or project/company looking for funds. Then BBA will review each of them carefully before putting up a Poll on DirectPool.net. About 3 or 4 companies will be on that Poll and it will be the MINERS who will decide who gets the funding, not the pool operators. This is why i love this project. Miners will vote for the bitcoin project they feel is worthy the most and that company will get fundings.

As soon as they add the other merged mined coins, i'll consider switching, until then, I'll be sticking with Bitparking.

Cool project though.  I'll look more detailed later to see if I change my mind.

I had a chat with the pool dev of directpool and he basically said the reason they didn't want to add anymore coins was is because they aren't worth much at all. (Ixcoin, Devcoin, I0coin and Groupcoin) For example, in 24hrs of mining with 700gh/s, ixcoin will fetch you $0.03 only, Devcoin will fetch you $0.01... it's really not worth adding the extra load onto the pool's server. Namecoin has some worth.. but the rest don't in my opinion..

This definitely is a cool project and i'm just waiting for my neptunes to come thru and i'll be mining at directpool for sure.. 1% pool fee and donations goto helping bitcoin community grow... you can't go wrong with that  Cool

+1 That is my guide, let me know if anyone needs more insight. I am here to help with the centralized problem bitcoin is having (we just don't notice it yet until it hits us like the malleability issues recently) [PSA] https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=519788

That's a fair response; however, you'll be sorry when Ixcoins take over the world, haha... probably not...

Sometimes, more isn't always good Tongue  Cool Cool It's why Big pools that have too much hashrate need to shrink a little to make the bitcoin network stronger and healthier so that in the future no one ever starts a riot over possible 51% attacks

I would also join if they started merge mining all the other coins. Saying it's not worth it is not true at all, didn't they say that about bitcoin once upon a time?

If I can merge mine 6 coins on a old unlocked Sempron 145 with 8gig of RAM comfortably, I'm sure their server can cope with it?

I like the merged mining idea but I don't think that should be directpool's main focus as of yet.

The other coins can come in once we fix the dominating hashpower away from the in this example, lets use POOL A, and POOL B.

The pool itself is not the problem, its the fact that too many people are in one area.  I highly doubt any pool today or in the future would attempt to (on purpose) double spend intentionally or accidentally because its not only that its hard to do, but it could make matters worse for Bitcoin, and bring in unwanted media attention. 2014 has been painful enough, we don't need to prolong into more problems.

IYFTECH, What do you think of my post here? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=472122.msg5759676#msg5759676
Now would it make sense to start mining on the pool to help the Bitcoin network?

Edit: Regardless of the names of the pools today, or in the future, POOL A or POOL B OR C can be any example at any time in a future date, but we don't know who it could be if those possibilities arise. In my opinion, I don't believe it implies any pool currently has those intentions.

The other coins can come in once we fix the dominating hashpower away from BTC GUILD & GHASH (CEX.IO)

There is nothing wrong with them, and I've mined on both of their pools before, but my point is, even they know its not safe.... Unless they're really trying to double spend, then its in their best interest to gain more hash power, right? I highly doubt that though because they could make matters worse for Bitcoin, and bring in unwanted media attention. 2014 has been painful enough, we don't need to prolong into more problems.

I think your giving BTCGuild such bad press is unwise & uncalled for. They are probably the most reputable pool out there and have already proven their honesty & integrity with regards to your supposed 51% attack some time ago, their customer support is outstanding also.
CEX on the other hand are a different ball game completely - a bunch of proven crooks, a ripoff outfit with zero customer support who deserve as much bad press as you can give them - knock yourself out  Wink

My point is, regardless of the name of the pool, something needs to be done. Let's take out the current names and call it Pool A and Pool B, then this currently still stands to become effective the same way.

I am just referencing to what was being discussed 1 year ago, this applies the same way for any future or current pool- P2Pool (POOL A) DirectPool (POOL B). it is something we as a community need to look at and make sure the network doesn't break because we have too many miners in one location, that was really the point of these discussions referenced below.

I referenced you to the 1000 VOTE discussion on Reddit, so clearly, its not me talking about it http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1bq4ia/for_the_love_of_bitcoin_stop_mining_at_btc_guild

Also I've edited the above post because it has nothing to do specifically with current pools.

Yes, I saw it nearly a year ago when it was first started, and as I stated earlier - BTCGuild have since proven their honesty & integrity by taking action.

Really, referencing people to year old threads that are no longer relevant is not the best way to promote a new pool. A far better way to promote your pool is to provide a good service & give miners what they want, if you do this, you won't have to keep fear mongering about 51% attacks or slurring other reputable pools because they are doing things right  Wink
