201  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ecuador Vs. Argentina Yesterday- Did anybody bet on ? How did your bet go? on: July 15, 2024, 08:07:29 PM
What do you mean by soccer?

The last Argentina vs Ecuador match in the quarter-final on July 5 a few weeks ago, Argentina won on penalties, while yesterday's match was not Argentina vs Colombia? Did you see that match?

Only bet on Argentina - with a win, if I had bet on full time normal it would have lost because I expected a draw and I was right.

Ohh yes you're right! Oh my this is probably seen as such a blow to the Ecuadorians jajajja I will have to show my buddy this post, it was actually the Columbia trip, I remember that now because he was mentioning how he was going to Columbia soon and he definitely didn't like them lmao he said he would root for Argentina over them. Idk why. My bad for getting the country wrong. I am only commenting on observation really and very little conversation on the topic. I could tell he didn't want to talk much about it at the time, probably because he couldn't sense I was much of a soccer fan.

I sit right next to a man at work who is from Ecuador and loves soccer, or as you folks internationally would call it "futbol". He was telling me how he knew Ecuador probably wouldn't win that game and spoke of what a great team Argentina is. We were talking about the odds of betting and what the payouts would be, I think the amount of points if you bet on Ecuador was like a factor of 10 times as much of that for Argentina because their odds of winning were so much greater. I joked with him that i'm so glad I hadn't placed that bet on Ecuador jajajja. Did anyone bet on this game? I would also love to get your thought on who is going to win the whole thing & see what everyone says. Represent your team in this chat  Cool

Yesterday was te final of Copa América, but the game was Colombia VS Argentina, and not Ecuador.

I didn't bet on that game and i'm glad that I didn't bet because my prediction was Colombia as champion and Argentina won the game on the se onda part of extra time.

But I enjoy watching the game.

Its always fun to watch the game!! Even if I don't root for anyone I would definitely enjoy watching the game with someone who is extremely passionate about it, its so much more fun to watch that way haha
202  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ranking forms of enternaintment by money spent, gamnling's position on: July 15, 2024, 07:17:36 PM
Watching a local football club: ~15€ admission fee, 95 minutes of entertainment. 10€/hour
Going to the movies: 12€ admission fee, 100 minutes of entertainment. ~9€/hour
Entrance at the club with a drink included: 12€, 2.5 hours of entertainment ~4.8€/hour
Watching movies on streaming site: 11€/month, dozens of hours of entertainment. ~2€ per hour
Buying a computer game: 60€, hundreds of hours of entertainment. ~<=1€/hour

Now for gambling, we'll need some explaining. Gambling has many forms, from sitting on a table with friends and playing for peanuts instead of real money, to sitting in a Vegas casino and spending hours on the slot machine. As slots are quite the popular form of entertainment for those that like to gamble, I think it's worth judging this game as an example for gambling. There's not so many games you can calculate the money spent per hour as easily as slots also, because it's one of the few games with a stable flow.

Slots are designed to have a flow of 10 spins per minute, and most have a minimum of 10 cents or above. So with that we can make some calculations. Let's say someone likes to play a slot with the minimum bet. That would be 1€ per minute, or 60€ per hour. Let's leave some leeway for the times you win anything and the animations stay longer on the screen. Even if you don't fast forward, it won't be less than 55€ per hour.

With that, as a form of entertainment, gambling can be the most expensive one! Especially when talking about slots.
I'd say if you view gambling as a form of entertainment you should find games where the minimum bet fits your budget if you want to spend hours doing it per session. To each their own ofc and your mileage may vary. But it's interesting to think about it this way.

So recently I had a conference where it was in the Hardrock and so after naturally I put like 10 bucks in cash for one of those gambling tickets to play and I think I ended up at some like 3 cent machine, played it for like 15 20 minutes and lost it all. I had taken out maybe 100 or so and I really wanted to go and play texas hold em but of course how can you stop yourself from at least sitting in those comfy chairs they have at those things. I mean seriously you didn't even once cover the chairs those chairs are nice man. Lmfao. Anyways, I was so bummed losing my 10 on that machine so fast I didn't even bother to go play texas hold em in the casino for real, one day I will tho. One day when I am not there for a conference haha.
203  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Were you apart of the online poker scene in the early 2000’s ? on: July 15, 2024, 07:12:03 PM
So this will ring a bell for Americans in large part, especially those who became part of the Texas Hold’em “phenomenon” when the game blew up like I’ve never seen before. I was in college and remember @MoFough83 teaching me how to play, and falling in love.  We had games going somewhere every single night.  ESPN started broadcasting poker tournaments regularly for the first time it was so massive.

This I believe is what helped pave way to online casinos in big big way. They boom, the US banned online gambling and it rocked the whole boat.

Im just curious if anyone else remembers this time period as well and as fondly as I do. Also curious if this is what started you in online gambling like it did me.

I remember staying with my family and seeing my uncle play for hours and hours on end into the night on the living room computer. I would go in a say hello and we would play texas hold em together. Those are actually some of my fondest memories with my uncle and he was always being so funny in the chat room & betting like a cowboy. I loved it.

Yeah you being a good bit younger than me makes sense that you wouldn't have been apart of this whole poker explosion but definitely old enough to remember it going on.  It really was like nothing else we've experienced when it comes to gambling and a casino game just blowing up the way it did.  Man it was a lot of fund though.  Constantly had poker games going at friends houses and online, I wish it would make a comeback like that.

You know its funny now that I think of it I remember my uncle letting me play a few hands after he had to make a quick bathroom break, I was like 12 or 13 years old at the time but man I remember this fun you speak of, I was part of it for a brief moment in time & this also helped develop my keen interest in poker as I got older. My friends and I just shortly after that time in middle school when I was 14 years old would play street hockey every day after school and then go back into my buddy's house to play texas hold em for hours. Man I miss those days. Some of my fondest memories!

205  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Addiction is 100% your choice: on: July 15, 2024, 07:01:40 PM
Almost 90% of the people who have a thing against gambling do so because they feel that gambling is addictive. But come to think of it, isn't addiction a choice? After reading lots of stories on the effects of being an addicted gambler, I feel it's 100% possible to tell myself that I can never be addicted to gambling and won't ever get addicted.

If for instance, I decide that I'm only going to gamble once a week and that at each time I will only gamble with an amount like $20 based on my current financial strength, would I ever become addicted to gambling?  Isn't it because you don't have any plan in place and just gamble as your spirit leads that makes you become careless with your gambling and become addicted to the process? Just want to ask this question;

Can you comfortably tell yourself that you have never been addicted to gambling and that you can never be addicted to gambling because of how you go about it?

I mean one thing a lot of folks tend to have a problem with is just the sheer justification of their gambling. I think there is so much of a negative connotation for the word addiction that it can often also be confused with habits. If you go to work every day do you have a habit or an addiction? Surely there is a huge difference between the two things here, on one hand you have a habitual act out of obligation that you can't get out of, on the other hand you have a 100% voluntary act that is being sought out to with effort & for the purpose of "entertainment". You can call it whatever you want but I would say you have more of a habit, you are betting the same money you can afford to bet and have calculated your risks, someone who is addicted would throw all the gasoline they have on the fire so to speak.
206  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A reservoir of unpredictable games. on: July 15, 2024, 06:55:18 PM
Why do people see themselves as a reservoir of unpredictable games whenever they bag a huge win in the midst of others?
As a gambler, it is so important to understand that luck plays a huge part in you winning, but some people believe they have found the winning pattern/strategy, just because they were lucky to win a game. If it was possible for one to get a winning pattern, they'd definitely run the bookmakers to the ground; so first thing is to be humble enough to accept that you have to be lucky to win and not that you can "magically" pick correct games.

You made a key point in this post which talked about humbling oneself and I couldn't agree more. If you don't remain humble the majority of the time then I would say to that man "pride comes before the fall". Lets not forget the importance of having confidence when I say this, I am not saying that being confident is a bad thing, but what I am saying is that you should be sure of how you feel in the moment in which you place your bet, having completed all necessary research and due diligence trust your gut instinct at the time in which you place any bet & maybe you will be more or less at ease when you make it and have better decisiveness in doing so.
207  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: After Effects Of Gambling In Your Health And Pocket on: July 15, 2024, 06:49:12 PM
Why did I start this topic? I experienced this myself, and so are my friends who are into gambling, and I'm sure many of you did too.

We have been advocating for responsible gambling in this forum, but there will be a time or circumstances when you lose control. When I lose control of my bets, I usually run out of money for my family's budget, which results in financial difficulties I have to take a loan to cover expenses.

Also, one of my friends suffered from heart palpitation because of overexcitement from long hours of playing; in my case, I sometimes felt a headache even though I won from over-excitement that I carried even in my sleep, which is why I limit myself from betting on horse races, I replace it with betting in a lottery, sometimes you gotta do what you have to do to combat the bad effects of too much gambling.

So I ask each and everyone What are the other bad effects of gambling that make you stop or limit how you play?

I will lock this thread after 40 replies or 4 days after the creation which one came first

This is a real problem that many people struggle with, and as of recent I did not know that teens are now even struggling with online gambling addictions. Its good that you found a good secondary pick for yourself OP when horse racing was making you slip and you adjusted accordingly. My own college fund was gambled away by my grandfather who had a real problem with that, he gambled all of the college funds that he had set up for all of his grandchildren including me, or so I have been told. I think taking a long, cold, hard look at onces choices after you see some of the initial after effects is truly very sobering- and if that doesn't help you adjust then just wait for the next time around it'll be 10 times worse, perhaps its better not to learn the hard way lol.
208  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why are you using betting agent to stake on crypto gambling sites? on: July 14, 2024, 06:15:07 PM
I don't know the laws of your country and I don't know if such a service can be considered legal.
Anyway, in general, if they don't have regulations, don't issue receipts, don't have a real official service, it's basically using a sort of black market for betting/gambling....with all the risks involved.
definitely to be avoided, even if they offer higher odds or any kind of advantages.

Yes this is good advice, I would avoid these type of services OP if they are considered illegal in your country because its never worth it to put yourself in that boat if it will lead to the law coming after you & you owing a huge amount of money or even worse jail time. Consider the pros and cons and definitely check to make sure that you can do this in a way that won't put you or your money in jeopardy.

210  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you understand entertainment? on: July 14, 2024, 06:09:45 PM
In the topic of gambling, I often see the word "entertainment". Nevertheless, each user means some meaning by this. Many people believe that entertainment is the main driving force of any gambling. And many even believe that entertainment is a much more physiological need than, for example, a desire to get rich. If you initially set yourself the goal only to have fun, and limit the amount that you are ready to take a chance, then you play for the sake of entertainment, and not because of the thirst for profit. You risk less. But if you ask you what entertainment is for you, then this question will be at a dead end. They do not know what entertainment is. Wikipedia writes that this is activity for pleasure.
But I see in this a certain cognitive activity, only with poorly formulated goals. For example, you play in order to understand the laws of the game over time and learn to win more often.
Or maybe entertainment for you is something else?

Being entertained should come easy & natural, you should put yourself in the right setting to be entertained and just be drawn in by sheer curiosity and over joyous feelings over what you are doing / watching etc etc. Entertainment has become synonymous with gambling though since it is a form of entertainment. Lots of folks don't gamble to get entertained tho and addicts surely don't find it entertaining if they aren't winning but sadly that is how it goes most of the time.
211  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ever Hated someone because he/she win too much, when you are constantly losing? on: July 14, 2024, 06:06:10 PM
Hating, or not liking someone for always winning when you are always losing; we can say is a result of jealousy, envy, and fact is, some people really don't know how to control themselves with issues like this.

Take a look, read the story in the shot I share below, and tell what you will do if you find yourself in a similar situation.

- will you (for the sake of peace, maybe to hide your envy, jealousy) continue to go gambling with that friend? And continue to lose your money?
- or will you tell him point clear that you are no longer interested in going to gamble with him? How are you gonna do it so he doesnt suspect that you are not happy with his constant winnings, when you are constantly losing?

I really hate when I see stuff like this. It just shows the true nature of most humans. This dude literally begged this guy to come to the casinos with him, his friend turned out to be super lucky and always wins, but yet he loses. Its hard to not feel bad for the guy who always loses but he should be happy for his friend. That's like teaching your bud how to play baseball and him becoming a huge star and you're just stuck in the outfield and cant make any catches or help plays move along. Maybe its time to find a new game my friend. Gambling isn't for you. The universe is telling him something haha
212  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Income statement: can it be used to mitigate huge losses due to addiction. on: July 14, 2024, 06:01:17 PM
Reflecting on income statement I thought about it how it can be used by gambling companies to deter the growing rate of gambling addiction among online gamblers which has led to massive wreckless loss.

Don't you all think that if gambling sites are charged by the authority to through KYC verification requirements call for income statement of every gambler to set a percentage limit to how much money as maximum amount they can deposit either in a day, week or month for gambling.

I understand some of us hate KYC but Can this help eradicate gambling addiction if gambling companies consciously swing into it.

When a gambler willingly hands over his income statement to a casino he basically gives them the keys to the kingdom in how much they can legally take from him & all they have to do is crunch a few numbers and viola they know exactly what this guy is worth to them. Its kind of wild honestly, no doubt this is how finance managers in casinos see these KYC regulatory requirements of providing an income statement with wild swing gamblers. Maybe they are actually using it as more of a tool and its more of a positive thing for them instead of a burden.
213  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The 'play till you hit it' mindset on: July 14, 2024, 05:57:43 PM
One thing I'll never understand with some people is the mindset of playing and spending your balance on games like slots until you hit a big jackpot.
This is something I'll never comprehend. So many people seem to follow this train of thought, while it clearly seems quite problematic and should fall under the chasing profits/losses category. Chasing losses is behavior that some casinos (for example in the UK) are forced to regulate due to government regulation that aims to limit harm to addicted people. So for instance if you were making 1$ rolls on a 100$ balance and all of a sudden you deposit $10k, the casino will ask you for an income statement to make sure you're comfortable making this deposit without ruining your life.

Now, for the people that think they'll eventually hit a big win. Yeah, if you keep playing forever mathematically at some point you'll get a big win. How big though? Well... Slots and games with huge multipliers, aside of having also a house edge, usually also have what's called volatility. So for instance a slot that has a 1000x multiplier, won't give out these rewards 1/1000 times. It will give it maybe 1/4000. This is to make way so they can get profits but also keep some money for even bigger multipliers whenever someone hits them. And even if you hit the 1000x, in a slot with high volatility chances are that you would have lost much more money unless you were extremely lucky.

If you want to see how this translates in real life without spending any money, you could run a powerball simulator:
https://www.cuandomevaatocar.com/en/powerball/simulator/

Powerball has the hugest of rewards in pretty much any game. You could run the simulation for 50 years. i.e. your whole income earning life and still see that chances are very much against you hitting any jackpot or even making your money back.
I made the simulation of buying a ticket twice a week when the lottery runs, for 50 years, and this was the result:
Quote
You won in prizes 8.84% of the investment
thankfully not real money, otherwise I could have bought my grandson a used car or something Cheesy

Its nice to know that they at least have some of these safeguards in place. In a world when nobody is looking out for you except yourself, its nice to know that governments at least put in a little extra effort to protect a gambler with a problem. I can only imagine seeing an addict being asked for his income statement and being denied of gambling, that might get a little ugly depending on the person/behavior and the place!!

Not everyone can be a jackpot/big hit winner and that's something we ought to accept I think.

What are your thoughts on this? Is constantly chasing big wins a practice you consider ok in gambling?

214  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it proper for one to trade Bitcoin through a trusted friend ? on: July 13, 2024, 08:02:00 PM
There is a sense of satisfaction and pride that comes with knowing how to do stuff yourself. Something called self-efficacy. Before I go on I want to believe that what you mean is the regular crypto trade and not P2P. What I can say about trading Bitcoin yourself is that you get better through your wins and losses. It is a learning pathway for you. But when you do it through a friend including copy trading which  some may argue is the best, you remain at the beginner trader level for a long time. A total waste of time and resources in my estimation. Trade your Bitcoin yourself through the rigorous process of learning or just hold your Bitcoin.

I have to agree with David here. Although it takes time at the end of the day the proof is in the pudding. You should ask yourself this question, "do I always want to rely on my friend to trade my bitcoin for me? or would I rather learn and go down the path less traveled & figure this out for myself?" I think the latter is always the best route to take. You will grow from that route, you will learn & become wise with trading or at least gain experience - even if you fail! Remember failing is not a bad thing, failing will only help you persevere if you keep trying and refuse to quit!
215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do I introduce Bitcoin to my client? on: July 13, 2024, 07:56:59 PM
No doubt, Bitcoin is one of the fastest and smartest virtual currency that has been designed to support P2P and a transparent transaction between users on a decentralized network. There are many that has actually want to venture into bitcoin market investment, but no ideas on how to start.

If I have a client that wants to invest in Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrencies, but he/she does not have any actue ideas on how the Bitcoin ecosystem works. How do I convince such person? what are the smartest ideas and informations I need to share to such person inorder to align with their vision?

I need suggestion to this.

I think a great place to start for anyone is simply to read "The Bitcoin Standard" by Saifedeen Ammous. This book provides a very good description and representation of Bitcoin, its use cases, history, and so much more. I would highly recommend that you check it out! That would be a great place to start. But if you don't have that much time just spend a little time educating yourself online about bitcoin, watch some videos, read some articles. Visity Khan Academy its free and they have some stuff on BTC as well.

https://cdn.nucleusfiles.com/be/beb1a388-1d88-4389-a67d-c1e2d7f8bedf/2024-gop-platform-july-7-final.pdf

Go to page 9 and you will see what I mean, obviously, they are on the opposite side of the Biden and Democratic government so they will be against everything the current government has to say including everything related to crypto.

and this issue could be the breaking point that might sway voters to Donald J. Trump.

So are you willing to "Make America Great again"?

Trump has definitely got my vote and he's had it long before he started backing Bitcoin. Anyone who is even entertaining the idea of voting for Biden needs to get a health check up and a couple doses of wake the fuck up pills because shiiiiiiiiiit its bad folks. What ya'll are seeing on TV of Biden right now is extremely embarrassing for our country and its not how things ought to be, Biden is a complete and utter disgrace and the only way he makes it back in office is if he cheats his ass off, which they will try, they always do.
217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin for your children & future wealth distribution on: July 13, 2024, 07:51:00 PM
We future generation are very Small so no such plan. It should definitely be our plan to hand down bitcoins to children in the future. By investing by investing so people may have problems in the future so there should be a plan in advance and they will manage the next of course the children can do. From the beginning when you raise a child he will have enough experience with Bitcoin so he can easily catch up with Bitcoin instead of you so when your child reaches the appropriate age you should introduce him to Bitcoin so that he can manage yours well. But keeping in mind that Bitcoin is a risky era, we must make all our decisions when investing in Bitcoin, just as we invest in Bitcoin with a long-term plan and check the market.
When we becomes parents, we must make a plan for our future, especially for our children. We can not lets them without any preparation because they will not be ready with what they will do in the future. If we can starts to have investment from now and teach our children all things necessary, they will have a chance to survive in the future and even they can develops more than us. With starting to investing for our children future, we prepare their future better than us and we can also teach them to do what we did to their children. Bitcoin investment is a good thing for them but we must tells them that Bitcoin investment have its risks so we must teach them how to manages the risks. So that can helps them to use Bitcoin as something that can change their life better in the future.
Listen, the best bargain is ensuring our children's future. And starting early, demonstrating to children the value of wise financial decisions, is quite important. Now, Bitcoin is flashy, the planet is humming, and yes, it might be huge. But its not a sure thing. We gotta teach our kids that.

It goes beyond mere financial gain. Its about wisdom. Its about understanding how the world works. The market swings both upward and downward. Its like life itself. Not only the sunny days; we also have to equip our children for the storms. Teach children how to manage risk, make wise decisions, and that will be a lesson they carry always. Its a lesson for life.

Hey you know what you're right, history has taught us time and time again how things can change very quickly. As flashy and cool as bitcoin is we have to prepare them for the hard times to your point. The good times AND THE BAD. Life lessons are the hardest to teach simply because they take a life long to learn!!!! A lot of times people have to learn the hard way but if we are good parents and teach our children to listen and watch for signs and how to react they can be more prepared during these hard times. Hopefully most of their days are sunny tho!!!
218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Historical mistake: England sold gold in 2019 and Germany sold BTC in 2024? on: July 13, 2024, 07:47:24 PM
Recent discussions have centered around the potential consequences of the German government offloading 50,000 Bitcoin on the crypto market [1]. This scenario bears striking similarities to a previous incident in England during 1999.

The German government's decision to offload its Bitcoin holdings at a price below 60K USD echoes the controversial sale of UK gold reserves in 1999. As one of the world's largest sovereign BTC holders, Germany's divestment at this relatively low price point has raised concerns among financial analysts. Some experts are even comparing this move to the UK's gold sale, suggesting it could be a similarly detrimental financial strategy [2].

The recent approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs marks a pivotal moment, broadening BTC accessibility and potentially attracting substantial institutional investment. I anticipate sustained BTC price growth through 2025. Given this bullish outlook, Germany's decision to offload its BTC holdings could prove short-sighted. There's a possibility that government officials may reconsider this strategy, potentially opting to retain BTC as a national asset rather than liquidating it via OTC.

I would like to know your opinion on this issue:
  • Do you think the German government's BTC sell-off was a historical mistake?
  • If you could help the German government make a decision, would you like to turn this 50K BTC into a national reserve?
  • Do you continue to believe in BTC price growth opportunities in the near future to become an extremely valuable asset in the economy?

Its a pity for Germany really that they don't see the value in the Bitcoin but hey maybe they just needed the cash for something?? I definitely think it was a huge mistake for them and that they will realize that down the road but for now i'm sure the government officials are all sitting in some huge bungalow drinking german beers thinking what a great decision they made.

Gaming =/= Gambling

It's a shame that I bring this up and the first thing someone says is "Oh yeah gaming? Sure go to the gambling board!"

What the heck?  Angry

I'm talking about a place for us bitcoiners to talk about videogames.  Gaming is a large enough category to have it's own board, so don't say "Oh just use off-topic".  I'm talking about a place to talk about League of Legends, World of Warcraft, CS:GO, Minecraft, Fortnite, Genshin Impact, Maplestory, Roblox, Apex Legends, SMITE, etc... you know, actual games? A place to share screenshots, wins, losses, funny moments, etc.

Gaming culture is of the internet
Bitcoin is money of the internet
Some of the first people to mine bitcoins were gamers on their old-school gaming laptops.

A gaming board on the front page right above or below Off-Topic would make this place ten thousand times better, and more friendly to newer on-boarders.  Who, demographically speaking, will be majorly consisting of 13-21 year old males.  13-21 year old males love to play video games.  Give them a place to talk about it, and perhaps they will find the beauty in bitcoin like we all have.

What do you guys think?

...because this generation of gamers, and the rest to come, are simply born to learn bitcoin.  You can't convince me otherwise.  Where is the gaming board?
 Seriously.

Oh man I've got to say that I do love this idea. If we all look back most of the folks that are into bitcoin i'd wager have had some kind of influence from digital games in their life and I would even go futher on to say that the might bring back some of their fondest memories. I really am loving this idea m8, good call! Good luck getting this added in, you've got my vote.
