201  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTER.com hacked - 7170 BTC stolen [DON'T KEEP YOUR MONEY ON AN EXCHANGE] on: February 17, 2015, 07:57:35 PM
Nobody mention, but BTER has also huge CNY deposits which are at least 10-15 times bigger than BTC and altcoins deposits altogether.Because of that they cant just disappear. Chinese government will catch them quickly and make example of them.

As I see, stolen BTCs are not moving,so thief/thieves probably want to extort money and that behavior looks suspiciously same like it was the case with NXT hacker few months ago.BTC nodes (used to obtain transactions) triangulation analysis gives 75% probability that thief is from Poland and 25% from Ukraine.Analysis of nodes server connections in the time of transactions could give much more information - I hope so that BTER already doing it.

How do you know how big their CNY deposits are?

I think they promised to return the CNY deposits and alt coins, but it must be very tempting for them to run instead. The mintpal owner stole all the bitcoins and ran with them. I think he has an arrest warrant out for him but nobody had found him the last time I looked into it.
202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CTM Coin wallet doesn't synchronize on: February 13, 2015, 11:21:13 PM
Still the same problem.

Is there somebody who has some addnodes?
It is because i want to install all my coins on my new PC and i'm downloading the new wallets. Some work perfect and other causes problems.
SUch as CTM and with Mooncoin i have the same problem at this moment.

You could try using nothing but the block explorer at ctminsight.buddylabsapps.com as a node in your conf file. If the block explorer still works then it probably has an up to date copy of the block chain. Add this line to your CTM conf file and see if it works for CTM.

addnode=ctminsight.buddylabsapps.com
203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Fresh FUD] What is the worst thing the Bitcoin Foundation could actually do? on: February 13, 2015, 08:29:52 PM
Fact #1: The Bitcoin Foundation pays a salary to Bitcoins lead developer(s)

.....
?

Where does the money come from to pay Bitcoins lead developer(s)? Any alternative to the bitcoin foundation would have to find money to pay him/them. I admit we need a better alternative to the bitcoin foundation because any organization that included Mark Karples is terrible, but an alternative needs financing.

Any user blatantly claiming to be female
That notion is what is the very basis for sexism in the Bitcoin community, at least the bitcointalk.org community. Disagree? Send me a PM.
If you start having more confidence in somebody because of their gender you should consider the problem being in you, not in others! So stop shaming women/girls into hiding their gender. It is not acceptable.

...

I thought Tomatocage was over the top using the gender a person claims to be to judge whether they are a scammer or not. Nevertheless, his opinion illustrates how few people claim to be women here. Maybe there are lots of females here hiding their gender because of the attitude of people here, but I guess it's more likely that there really are very few females who post here.
205  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do girls use Bitcoin ? on: February 13, 2015, 04:46:13 PM
According to this guy anyone here blatantly claiming to be female is likely to be a male scammer. That's his opinion of how many women use this forum, the most popular bitcoin forum that there is. I admit it's very rare you see a female user name here.

Alright, so I've been PM'd by a few people what red-flags to look out for since I have a pretty good track record of spotting scammers.  Sometimes I get it wrong, but better safe than sorry.  Anyway, watch out for the typical behavior from scammers who will usually fit at least two or three (and sometimes even more) of the following characteristics:

0. Newbies, NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH OTHER NEWBIES, EVER. There are plenty of veteran members to do business with and ALWAYS use escrow. If you're a newbie you're doing business with another newbie, there's a 100% chance that you will get scammed (or you're a scammer yourself).
1. New account (usually created within the last 3 months, plus or minus)
2. Low-medium message count with vapid posts of little to no contributory value
3. Use of a seemingly realistic first/last name as their forum account name
4. Signs posts with full name
5. Straight out of Newbie mode right into Lending (requesting a loan of course)
6. Straight out of Newbie mode right into Currency Exchange (PayPal, Liberty Reserve, Western Union)
7. Straight out of Newbie mode and selling gift cards/codes/Steam games of any kind
(they'll often be purchased with stolen CC info, leaving you holding the bag later on down the road)
8. Any user blatantly claiming to be female
9. New user trying to sell an Apple iAnything
10. Sob stories asking for handouts
11. Never send to a Bitmerch.com address for escrow!!!

206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin For Flight Tickets? on: February 13, 2015, 12:25:33 PM
Expedia allows Bitcoin payment for hotel bookings. Expect them to add flight bookings soon too, though I don't see much benefit in that. Hotel booking I can understand if one is looking for some anonymity.

YEah paying for hotels with BTC is cool..but I still dont think it wll be anonymous.. as Im sure the hotel will ask for some sort of ID of yours..b4 u check in.. So not anonymous..unless uve faked the ID's.! Tongue

I have sometimes paid in cash for hotel rooms. They usually wanted a scan of my passport if I wanted to pay in cash. If I had paid by credit card they might not have needed it, but there was no way to stay there without proving who you were. Bitcoin would probably be treated like a cash payment and need a passport scan.
207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DIMECOIN no confirmed on: February 13, 2015, 12:10:23 PM
Try searching for your wallet address you sent your coins from in the blockexplorer linked below.

http://dime.lulupon.net/

If it shows your coins are still in the address and were not sent then try the instructions below. Otherwise contact Cryptsy support because you can prove they received the coins through the block explorer.

Click help, then debug window

Click the console tab

At the bottom of the console tab write this text, but replace YourDimeCoinAddress with the dimecoin address you sent your coins from.

dumpprivkey YourDimeCoinAddress

Press the enter key.

You will see a private key in the console window. Copy it to a text editor like notepad.

Exit dimecoin then move your wallet.dat to somewhere safe.

Restart dimecoin with no wallet.dat in appdata so a new blank one gets created.

Open the console tab and write this text, but replace YourDimeCoinKey with the private key you copied earlier.

importprivkey YourDimeCoinKey 1

Press the enter key.

After a while your coins should show up in the new wallet.

How big is the biggest premine you are considering? Anything over 1% will put most people off IMO. In fact any premine at all is enough to devalue a coin. Buyers have to trust the dev not to dump the price down to nothing, I have witnessed quite a few devs who faithfully promised not to dump their premine, who immediately dumped it at the first opportunity.
209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: How often do you check the price of bitcoin. Please VOTE on: February 13, 2015, 11:32:58 AM
I had long periods when I occasionally checked the price on coinmarketcap. After that I started leaving bitcoinity running all the time. Nowadays I'm not sure if it's healthy watching the price constantly change on bitcoinity. It's a bit too nerve wracking.

Huobi DNS Hacked/Believe No Funds Are Missing Currently

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2vq3bs/huobi_dns_hackedbelieve_no_funds_are_missing/

Trading seems to have stopped on Huobi about two hours ago which lends credibility to the story. I cannot find any further information yet. We should find out more in a day or two.

Edit/

Trading has now started again on Huobi.
211  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 13, 2015, 03:32:56 AM
Is it just me or did Huobi just flatline?

Yes, the last transactions were about two hours ago according to bitcoinity. That gives credibility to the hack story. They would not stop trading without a big reason.

Edit/

Trading has started again now.

Hmmm... saving face or truth?
Also, it's Friday the 13th in China isn't it?

Thanks, this thread is good for getting the most up to date news before it's available on the mainstream news websites. This story will be all over them in the next few days. Everyone will be wondering if they are lying about no missing funds to stop everyone withdrawing everything.
213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Timekoin: Forum offline. Anyone here? on: February 13, 2015, 03:08:57 AM
I briefly looked at Timekoin last year because I found it interesting that you could run it on low power devices. The network did not seem to need the kind of processing power other coins need thrown at them. I don't have the technical knowledge to contribute but I will be sorry if it disappears.
214  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How Much Prison Time for Ross Ulbricht? on: February 12, 2015, 10:24:48 PM
Hasn't he got another trial coming up for the hits he allegedly tried to pay for?

As far as I know, he doesn't.

I checked on bloomberg.com and it says there is another trial coming up in the District of Maryland (Baltimore).

Ulbricht is charged with a murder-for-hire scheme in a separate case in federal court in Baltimore.

The murder-for-hire case is U.S. v. Ulbricht, 13-00222, U.S. District Court, District of Maryland (Baltimore).

215  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 12, 2015, 10:11:48 PM
So what I've learned catching up on the thread the last couple days is that this is basically the personal blog / tumblr of a few high profile obnoxious idiots, and that "bitcoiners" are apparently stupid assholes because they have high expectations that are often wrong of a completely new technology that nobody has ever seen before and nobody actually knows how to value or project yet.

As soon as bitcoin's price starts moving in a big way hundreds of people suddenly start posting here. When nothing's been happening for ages only a few people seem to post here. That's when it becomes the personal blog / tumblr of a few high profile obnoxious idiots people.

Hasn't he got another trial coming up for the hits he allegedly tried to pay for? If he gets found guilty for the next trial I imagine it could add a lot more to his sentence. They say the hits were never carried out but paying for them must have a big penalty.
217  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best exchanges for investing in altcoins on: February 12, 2015, 09:10:11 PM
I would say these for investing in established alt coins that will not disappear overnight.

https://bter.com/

https://www.cryptsy.com/

If you are taking a chance on coins that might quickly disappear this exchange is a good one. The downside to this exchange is it quickly removes any coin that does not have much volume. Often coins are pumped and dumped there, then removed. Afterwards no other exchange lists them and they quickly die and become worthless.

218  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][FAIR] NEXT 1.5 FairCoin Wallet Release: CALL FOR TESTERS on: February 12, 2015, 08:31:09 PM
Can we leave our coins on an exchange and let them take care of the swap?

I have coins from the initial distribution that I never moved from the original address they were sent to. Can I just send them to an exchange and leave the swap to them?

I feel the coin swap is not fair to holders who do not hear about it in time. I could have dumped during the big pump but chose to hold instead. Others like me could find they have had all their coins taken from them because they decided to hold and did not keep up on the latest developments.

Firstly. If you have minted your coins, in anytime, you dont have any problem because you wallet has been active. The recuperation of coins only is going to affect, wallets that has not been open from march 2014.  So it not affect holders, but only people that abandoned faircoin from the  very beginning.
Anyway obviously if you move the coins also serves to mantain the control of the coins, but as i commented you dont need to do nothing if you have minted any time.

Secondly. We are yet in testing phase, there are not a date confirmed for the hard fork.

Third. As the statement explains, yet if someone recover acces to his wallet and shows ownership after the hardfork will be able to mantain their coins.

Therefore, With this process all the faircoin community will be beficiated,  Cheesy

The first wallet gave a virus warning when scanned through virustotal.com

Because of this I only ran the wallet on a virtual machine to collect my coins and never used it again. Others may never have staked for this reason. It's a lot of hassle to import the key from my virtual machine to a newer version of the wallet on a real computer, so I never got round to it. Will there be a time limit after which even proving ownership of a key is not enough to maintain ownership?

You mention to do with the "reindex" switch.

What do you mean with that?
Is that to start all over again with downloading a new wallet?
I've done so, but nothing happens. They stay at 0 of 6 corfirms.

Create a shortcut by right clicking your dimecoin-qt.exe file and selecting "create shortcut" from the list shown. Right click the shortcut and select "properties" from the list shown. Add

 -reindex

to the end of the text labelled "Target".

The end of the text should look something like this

\dimecoin-qt.exe -reindex

Notice the space between dimecoin-qt.exe and -reindex

Click the apply button when you have finished.

Here's an example of what the properties window should look like (but for dogecoin)

Launch your wallet by double clicking the shortcut and it will reindex everything. If that does not get your coins back in your wallet try doing the same thing but replacing -reindex with -rescan
