141  Economy / Speculation / Re: This Bitfinex Credit Bubble cannot end well on: February 27, 2015, 12:19:04 AM
What about the fiat credit bubble that's been going on for decades? How do you think that's gonna end?

I'm no economic expert but I heard most countries are heavily in debt. Exactly who do they owe the money to and do they just print more money if they can't pay? Whoever they borrow the money off must have a shitload of cash.
142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Public message to BTER on: February 26, 2015, 10:51:13 PM

Imagine how mtgox victims felt..  not some alt trading platform like bter.. but pure fiat lifetime holdings

Did anyone get anything back since then? Cool

No, there is a long court case and police investigation still ongoing. Nobody seems to know how much longer it will take, or even how many bitcoins Mt Gox still has. All the lawyers fees are coming out of Mt Gox's money too, so that will leave the customers with even less money, if they ever get anything back.
143  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp Volume Update on: February 26, 2015, 10:36:37 PM
Well actually I do like BitStamp. They seem like and honest and clean exchange so it was quite upsetting when they went dark. I always believed they would pull through, and they did! But they have to do an audit in order to regain their trustworthiness, that's for sure!

Am i the only one thats using btc-e here? First used in 2011 and im still there today, never had a single problem that hasnt been resolved in a timely manner..
Thats why im surprised bitstamp even had a chance to deal with kinds of volume they had.
Is there any particular reason you used bitstamp over existing exchangers ?

cheers

What bothers me about btc-e is nobody knows who they are. If anything goes wrong nobody knows who to complain to. They have been trustworthy until now, but they could disappear with the bitcoins any time they want.
144  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Bter is back get your altcoins out! on: February 26, 2015, 07:45:23 PM
Is there are have already withdraw there?
Looks like still disable Undecided I still have an altcoin there.

You can only see your USD, CNY, and NXT balances. Bter says you can now withdraw CNY. I don't think you can even withdraw your NXT yet and I'm certain you cannot yet withdraw any other alts. There is no information when/if they will allow withdrawals of other alts.
145  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp Volume Update on: February 26, 2015, 07:27:24 PM
Ridiculously, the BTCC with half of market volume doesn't has the pricing rights.

There were rumors that BTCC's volume was mostly fake. Has it ever been audited to prove they really have that much volume? If there are no trading fees they could keep buying and selling to themselves to make it appear they have massive volume.
146  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Favourite Exchange? on: February 26, 2015, 07:21:29 PM
I like coinbase now. Wasn't the favvourite before, but now with multisig and all, it is the favourite for me.

How long does it take to register at coinbase and what kind of ID do they want? Most exchanges I have used want a high resolution passport scan and either a scan of a recent bill or bank statement.
147  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTER.com hacked - 7170 BTC stolen [DON'T KEEP YOUR MONEY ON AN EXCHANGE] on: February 26, 2015, 06:43:39 PM
i dont want to withdraw my 40 cny. i want that bter is like before and i can buy some altcoins.

I think they were restricting CNY withdrawals to above a few hundred anyway. They probably would not let you withdraw less than that. I would also like them to go back to the way they were before but I'm doubtful it will happen. They have lost too much money to go back unless someone bails them out.
148  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Favourite Exchange? on: February 26, 2015, 06:35:04 PM
My personal favourite is localbitcoins and circle. I like localbitcoins because you can post your own offers and they offer escrow.

How does the escrow work, and what happens if someone tries a chargeback for a bank transfer? I assume local bitcoins only holds bitcoins in escrow, and not money. I skimmed through a few horror stories about chargebacks on the internet and it put me off.
149  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What's the best US exchange? on: February 26, 2015, 06:29:16 PM
It depends what you mean by a large amount and how much you are prepared to pump up the price while buying it. The chart below shows exchanges in order of volume. Most of the biggest volume exchanges are outside the US. Coinbase seems to have the biggest volume of US based exchanges.

150  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Money to BTC-E stopped by bank on: February 26, 2015, 10:22:15 AM
Banks refusing to do transfers is a common problem. There is a thread listing which banks are OK and which have blocked transfers. It's full of complaints like yours. You could ask the thread's OP to add your bank to the list of bad banks and look for a good one off the list of good banks.

151  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp Volume Update on: February 26, 2015, 10:09:54 AM
Bitstamp promised to do regular audits to prove they hold the number of bitcoins they claim to have. They did an audit before the hack, but I don't think they have done one since, despite plenty of requests for an audit. How can people trust them unless they prove they are not operating a fractional reserve like Mt Gox?
152  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTER.com hacked - 7170 BTC stolen [DON'T KEEP YOUR MONEY ON AN EXCHANGE] on: February 25, 2015, 11:07:39 PM
I never put more than one Bitcoin up there. As soon as I was done trading I zapped the coins off their site and into my wallet.

I knew this was going to happen sooner or later. Why else would they pay interest. It worked for them. They tricked a lot of people into leaving their money up on their site. Now they run off with the coins claiming a hack. Either that or they were using  deposits to gamble with.   Why else would they pay interest to keep coins on their site?

Vircurex is now also offering interest. Wow! I'm going to get interest! I'm going to get interest! Your going to get ripped off again if you let them.

Cryptsy is also offering interest, only a tiny amount, but it's the same as Bter and Vircurex. I only started using Cryptsy the Christmas before last so I don't know if its ever been hacked. Has it ever had a hack like the Bter one?
153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: What's the longest you've waited for a support ticket to be solved at Cryptsy? on: February 25, 2015, 07:14:41 PM
LOL, did the rep follow up on the ticket on his own? Or had you recently replied to it to 'bump' it in their system?

I never receive replies to the tickets themselves, even after 'bumping' them. The only way I've been able to get a reply is by mentioning the tickets in the Cryptsy chat box. But they recently scolded me, telling me the chat box was not for support issues. But each time I mention the tickets there, I get a reply, never fails. Now only if I could get a resolution instead of a request for more patience on my behalf, well that would be something!

I've heard that if you have a verified account (i.e., if you give them your identity) that suddenly the support services are like 100x better and more effective.

3 months though...damn.

So I have at least another month of waiting. Great.

If they are blowing you off in chat i'd say start a dedicated name & shame thread in this forum. Plenty of people will help keep it bumped to the top. Cryptsy deserves to be shamed until they change their ways or loose all the customers. Just my 2 sat.

That sounds like a veiled threat to ban people who mention overdue support tickets in the trollbox. Censoring people's complaints makes Cryptsy look awful. I had to wait weeks for a support ticket to be resolved ans also got palmed off with a request for more patience on my behalf. Others with the same problem are telling their stories in the following thread.

155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Regret and depression on: February 24, 2015, 09:18:27 PM
Finding the next big thing is already near impossible in life and now that bitcoin already exists, the probability of becoming an overnight millionaire by being an early adopter of another coin is near zero. I know people will say keep trying but I know in my heart bitcoin was my one and only way of becoming a millionaire in life and it was right under my nose.

I listen to this everyday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FjbEj6rmNg. It encapsulates my very real possibility of becoming very wealthy and my regret extremely well.

There's a lot more to life than becoming very wealthy, most of the rich people I know are chronically depressed.

A lottery winner brought a Rolls Royce, parked it outside the supermarket, and found someone had keyed the paintwork when he came back out. He advised other winners never to par their car anywhere public and expect it to be safe. Other lottery winners have said they got a lot of jealousy from people. No wonder most of the rich people you know are chronically depressed.
156  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Moolah CEO Has Been Arrested! on: February 24, 2015, 09:05:50 PM
what are the proofs they got to finally arrest him?

Well, the person and the sites who are giving out the news, don;t publish evrythng, without confirming it before.

These two websites contradict each other. One says he has not been arrested, the other says he has. They can't both be right about it. The website claiming the story is false says everything is based on a Syscoin statement that got misinterpreted. Later this week we should find out which website got it right.

This website says it's false.

This website claims claims it's true.

157  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TWISTERCOIN Multimedia Video-Google-Paper wallet airdrop [ICO STARTED] on: February 24, 2015, 07:30:01 PM
What is the Paper wallet airdrop mentioned in the thread title? There is nothing about it in the OP. Is it a free giveaway, and what percentage of the coins will be given away if it is? There was another coin who claimed to have given paper wallets away, but there was no proof.
158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Harddrive Failure: I lost wallet.dat to altcoin but have address and password. on: February 24, 2015, 03:01:42 PM
I would keep the broken hard drive if there is a chance the $5 worth of coins could become worth a fortune in the future. It would then be worth paying a data recovery company to retrieve the wallet.dat. There was someone who brought a load of bitcoins when they were worthless, then binned the laptop containing the wallet.dat when it broke. He was trying to find it on a land fill site when they became worth millions, but gave up when he saw the scale of the dump.
159  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Moolah CEO Has Been Arrested! on: February 24, 2015, 02:53:53 PM
After reading conflicting reports I'm not sure he has been arrested. This website claims it's not true he's been arrested and does a good job of digging into how the story is a misinterpretation of a SYScoin statement.

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/calm-media-alex-green-not-jail/

This blog claims news of his arrest comes via a statement from SYScoin, but claims it's true.

160  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Anyone having trouble withdrawing funds from Vault of Satoshi? on: February 24, 2015, 01:30:39 PM
I am still waiting for my eft withdrawal which I submitted a month ago. I have not been able to contact anyone working for VoS. Anyone else experiencing this issue? advice?

This guy is experiencing this issue and says withdrawal processing is beginning mid-April, 2015. He is thinking about making an official complaint to someone because he says they were a licensed exchange. If you want to make a complaint too it could be worth getting in touch with him first to find out what else he knows about them.

Just got an email from VOS support:

"Due to restrictions placed on us by our financial institution, any outstanding withdrawal requests will be processed beginning mid-April, 2015.

We understand that this is not an ideal situation, unfortunately, after much discussion with our bank, we have been unable to expedite the process.

Your patience during this process is very appreciated.

Sincerely,

Vault of Satoshi Team"

Had I known this I would have just not sold the BTC and transferred BTC out instead.

They also said they were closing their bank accounts in March 2015 so I am not sure how now outstanding withdrawals will be made in April.
