Any way to tell if these "pizza" nano boxes are really new?  Its super easy to add shrink-wrap to open boxes.  I want to buy one but am unsure about this.

That guy's link above is a newbie. MrStacy is selling the real thing. I can and will vouch for him. Wink

Thanks Owlcatz.  This collectibles subreddit is addicting!!  Luckily the Forum severely limits my engagement due to me being a "noob" account so that is preventing me from going on an impulse-buying spree  Grin   I have to remember to send thanks to Theymos from my wife...  Cool
203  Economy / Collectibles / Re: The Rarest Book on: October 31, 2018, 11:43:44 PM
I am not involved with this product, but wanted to share this with you nevertheless.

https://therarestbook.com

You might be familiar with the Rare Pepe project, one of the first projects putting art on the blockchain (http://rarepepedirectory.com).

More than 1700 cards were being created and this book is kind of like a directory of them.

The book is limited to 300 pieces.

Have fun! Smiley

Thanks for this!  Looks awesome.  Wish I had been in NYC for the show.
204  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Mailing without doxing on: October 31, 2018, 11:26:26 PM
I actually just got a PO Box last week and I definitely don’t remember any options of writing down other aliases to use for the box. I remember that the form (I actually think it was 1093) had space where you could write down a list of people who you are authorizing to come pick up stuff from your box... maybe I could’ve written down “phishead” on that, but I would never have thought that would’ve worked since I’m providing other personal documents like my passport and lease statement to prove identity and place of residence.

My question is, if you’ve already signed and paid for your PO Box, is there a way to edit in your alias possibly? Or would you have to wait until your contract ends and you apply again?

I have had a PO box for over 10 years...and did not know that option existed until they todl me. It was just a simple form really not the one applying for new or renewal po box.

I got a box at a UPS Store.  They said I can have packages sent to the box # without my name.  They also said that there is a law prohibiting them from giving out my personal info to anyone without my written consent.  (I actually had to sign a form acknowledging this law.)   This of course isn't fool-proof, but it's probably good for small-time buyers like me Smiley

Thanks for the great help everyone!!   Grin   I figured people here would have had some experience with this...  my wife thinks I'm super paranoid LOL.  I tell her that my level of paranoia is the bare minimum for crypto...
208  Economy / Collectibles / Mailing without doxing on: October 26, 2018, 12:02:04 PM
Hi everyone,

I just bought a collectible here.  To preserve my privacy, I'd prefer not to give my real name and have the package delivered to a UPS Store or Post Office under a pseudonym.  Has anyone done that before?  My local UPS Store says they want a real name on the package so I can show ID for it, but maybe there's a way around that?

Thanks
209  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Has the Casascius market panned out how you expected? on: October 16, 2018, 01:45:30 AM
I agree with Bovine for Cass coins bought later.  But the concern at the moment is that BTC is still at a binary decision point in its development: it either dies or has a wild huge upside.  Cass coins will probably under-perform in both scenarios.  Same issue with investing in BTC venture capital.  Success of BTC companies rely on the success of BTC, and thus it has a higher risk profile than just buying BTC, without necessarily any more upside.  I'm really tempted to buy a few Cass coins because they are really cool, but I'm hesitant to bet that it's a better financial decision than just HODLing BTC.

Long long term hodler. Their time will come once BTC becomes the worlds major currency
210  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] One-of-a-kind Encyclopedia has traveled to 26 countries! 3 DAY AUCTION on: October 16, 2018, 01:35:54 AM
.055

Alright guys, I've got something special from the vault today.

What we have here is one of the original paperback editions of the encyclopedia. It was one of the ~110 copies in the initial batch, 100 of which were designated as 'first print'. This specific book went with me as I traveled the world for about 1.5 years in 2016-2017. It's seen a lot and has been browsed by people from all walks of life around the world from; from impoverished schoolchildren I tutored in South Africa to Chinese billionaires. It was with me in a dug-out wood canoe in Botswana's Okavango Delta when I was chased by a charging hippo, and has been passed around in bars across Southeast Asia as I backpacked there. It was even featured in Chinese media after being the star of a book talk I was invited to in Nanjing.

Now, I have recorded all the countries the book has been in behind the front cover. I've also attached a 'globe' hologram to the front, making it unique among my books. it is of course signed. It's time I give the collectors here a chance to own this truly unique piece.
The book's condition is FAR from mint, so you can browse it without worry. I would invite the buyer to take it on further travels and record them where I left off.. another 10-11 countries will fill up the page!

211  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Cass coins during bear market on: October 16, 2018, 01:29:42 AM
Thanks Blazed and Canary.  Occurs to me that if BTC goes up a lot then the premium over the BTC value in a Cass coin is a loss.  And if hyperbitcoinization happens then it's an epic loss.  I heard the other day that even seed-stage investments in Coinbase didn't perform as well as just buying BTC.  Makes it hard to use my fiat for anything else...  I have to mentally separate my fiat into "for BTC" and "not for BTC" categories, and ironically buying a Cass coin would be in the "not for BTC" category.

Premiums seem tied to USD values and as Canary said when prices up Cas are down. Some coins have never had much of a premium regardless of prices (2013 brass, 25BTC, and 5BTC). Seems like only the silvers have kept the monster premiums.
212  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Buying Cass coins with history on: October 15, 2018, 03:33:57 PM
thanks krogothmanhattan.  I saw the pinned warnings at the top of the forum sub-reddit.  very helpful.  the listings on ebay are super sketch.

by the way, ok if I pay for Cass coins with Tether?  (JOKING!)

213  Economy / Collectibles / Cass coins during bear market on: October 15, 2018, 03:24:09 PM
Hi everyone,

New Cass collector here. I've been guessing that Cass prices will slide down as the bear market continues. But it occurs to me that Cass coins may be mostly held by strong-hands HODLers who don't need the funds and thus can wait out the bear market. For those who have been here since 2013, what is your memory of how the Cass market has responded to BTC bear markets?

Also, anyone know if have Cass coins ever been sold through major auction houses?

Thanks for your thoughts.

(Sorry if my responses are delayed but I'm traveling and the Forum is limiting my replies to delays, I'm guessing because it thinks I'm a scammer...)
214  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Buying Cass coins with history on: October 15, 2018, 03:16:10 PM
Thanks Aduck.

I've been trying to respond to everyone who replied so helpfully, but the Forum is limiting me to one reply per 5+ minutes and is super buggy... argh...

Hi.

All the coins I have for sale have a known history, and in some cases documented. My sales thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1460749.0
215  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Buying Cass coins with history on: October 15, 2018, 03:02:07 PM
Minerjones - I'm not necessarily looking for celebrity history.  I'm more looking for the best-practices to figure out if the Cass coin is authentic.
Sounds like pgp documentation, chain of custody may be it.  I understand that many of these were purchased anonymously and thus documentation can be hard to come by...

I want loaded coins, nothing peeled.

Thanks

Are you looking for more "celebrity" documented history, like one owned by Charlie Shrem or someone similar?
or
Are you looking for something like what wheelz said, a coin that comes with pgp documentation, chain of custody, etc?
216  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Buying Cass coins with history on: October 15, 2018, 02:48:26 PM
Thanks Ms. Bovine.  I heard from a source on Twitter that minerjones is solid for escrow.  Seems to be a preference from the posts I've been reading.

Hi,

I'm looking to buy some Casascius coins that have documented history.  Does anyone have any advice on how to find these?  I'm concerned about forgeries, especially after hyperbitcoinization Smiley

Thanks in advance for any advice.

-HODLer

ps - really fun being back on bitcointalk.  last time I was here was 2013, to-the-moon-guy was posting frequently and someone was organizing a big party for when BTC hit $1k  Smiley

tothemoonguy was on reddit not here, no?

Welcome back either way.  Best suggestion I can give you is to buy from reputable sellers and use escrow.  In that regard, pretty much the same as back in 2013 though the values in USD are higher.
