Good news! I've updated the script and now it works on Amazon EC2 instances. Furthermore, primecoin launches as soon as the server reboots, so you'll always have it running.

Minor updates today.
The script is now test and is Amazon EC2 compliant. It also includes adding quarkcoin to startup.

Exactly. Im an amateur when it comes to linux but guides like that make a huge difference and have given me lots of success with coins like YAC, XPM and even QRK.
Keeping my eye on this coin as well. Got a good feeling about this one.
I'll post a guide when SRC is released. You can count on it.

There are also a couple of papers on Fermat tests on the GPU (e.g. http://www.gpgpgpu.com/gecco2009/6.pdf), however these implementations are usually assuming that n is smaller than 32 or 64bits, which makes the test much easier. I just skimmed over that paper. Their results are novel, but almost useless in application. If you're doing Fermat tests, there's a good chance the numbers you want to analyze are greater than 2^64.

I take it CUMP didn't have what you needed?

Don't a lot of pools co-mine BTC and NMC? It seems like you'd need an ungodly amount of hashing power to pull a 51% attack. You'd have to outgun entire pools.

Not going to let this thread die.
Any updates?

Oh god, what have I done?
Nice But why? Gigawatt- can you go into detail about how linode handled things? Did they just boot you without warning /communication? Curious as I still have 8 cores running with them but have not had any disruption...yet. Have immature blocks there that I should probably address before I lose them Edit: also did you consider myhosting ? Can be cheaper than linode There was a "resource abuse ticket" opened for using 800% CPU on a handful of VPS. They shutdown the servers for safety and sent a notice saying that I needed to not use so much CPU because 1) it's against their Acceptable Usage Policy and 2) it was affecting other nodes on the same hardware. I could either cut back on CPU usage or (they phrased it much nicer) close up shop for a refund. I deleted the servers which added the remaining time as account credit, then had the credit re-applied back to my bank account by sending them a note. And that was the end of that.
edit: myhosting looks good, but their AUP will eventually catch up to you: see section 11.t
edit2: This is what they said. It has come to our attention that all of your Linodes are using close to 800% CPU usage. This is negatively impacting the hosts on which your Linodes reside and subsequently your neighboring Linodes. We must ask that you stop CPU intensive processes on your Linodes, and inform us once you've done so. After asking about a refund: You will receive a credit for any unused time on your account, and once you have that credit, we can refund that back to your card minus a $5 processing fee. Please let us know when you have said credit and we can process that for you. So yeah, they gave me the boot, but they were quite nice about it.

Actually no valid share was submitted. I just see a bug in the printing "Total/Valid Shares:" should be 13/0 and not 0/13. Anyway there must be some misconfiguration there or maybe network problem or something. The Val/h is very low for 4CPU except if the VM resources are limited by the host. Jabroni, can you see what are the error messages you had for each share submission?
Network problem dont think so, ypool webpage is reachable. Worker validates on startup fine and i dont see any disconnect messages Tried setting a new worker and still wont get any share at all ESXi is mine, and I see resources are avaialable (and I actually see full usage on the vsphere client when I run the jhprimeminer). Right now im running it again and outputting the results to a text file to see what it gets... Ill update my post in bout 1 hr with the result of it Run a Netalyzr test. Also, just because you can "see" a webpage doesn't mean you can access it with a different tool. Seeing the page is via HTTP (port 80), mining it requires a different port.

@mumus: You should make your own "mumus' jhPrimeminer" thread, that way you can just update the main post with new releases instead of having people beg for them because they can't/won't read previous posts.
I'm in no way requesting it because I'm one of those lazy people. Nope. Not even a little. Ok, maybe a little.

Just a proof of concept to myself. Only going to cost me ~$5 to test it and I've mined a block so far, so I'd call it break even at worst.
The lot of them are running at ~50 chains/day in case anybody is curious.
Based on my experience cc2.8xlarge are a huge waste of money (at this point). Even though they throw out huge numbers, I find you get better returns on a large # of smaller ones. Of course the ROI is getting to be tiny on EC2 so it is likely a moot point now ... Good luck on your test, I hope you strike it rich EC2 is pretty pricy compared to other VPS services like Linode, but at least they don't boot you for loading up their CPUs. Hell, they actually encourage it.

All I'm asking is how many hours he worked so far, and why it isn't finished after 3 weeks. Also, why is there no speed estimate?
You must not be a developer. Translating code from one platform to another is an all-or-nothing project. It either works, or it doesn't. There's no "we're half way there, lets run some benchmarks". There's also no magical progress bar that tells you how far along you are. You could think you're 90% done but have no idea that you'll spend the next 3 days debugging a single function. You can't know how long it'll take. You really, simply, cannot know.

My bet: the new thread was quickly turning into the old thread. So they locked it and will unlock it to post updates as required.
Lets be honest, there was no "discussion" going on in either of the threads.

Oh god, what have I done? (I'm only renting them for an hour, so don't piss your pants)Linode really didn't like me having CPUs running at 800%, so they put an end to that. At least they gave me a refund though.

Im testing the v7.1 inside a ESXi Windows 2008 64bit VM (Running on a i7 920) w/ 4 cores assigned. However it seems that this wont produce any share at all. PPS values are ~15k. Anyone experiencing the same probs?? Heres an output example after leaving it running like 40 mins --------------------------------------------------------------- ---- New Block: 117030 - Diff: 9.750861 / 6.000000 ---- Total/Valid shares: [ 0 / 13 ] - Max diff: 7.24141 ---- 6-chain count: 14 - 6ch/h: 18.896 - Share Value: 1.400 ---- 7-chain count: 1 - 7ch/h: 1.350 - Share Value: 1.000 ---- 8-chain count: 0 - 8ch/h: 0.000 - Share Value: 0.000 ---- 9-chain count: 0 - 9ch/h: 0.000 - Share Value: 0.000 ---- 10-chain count: 0 - 10ch/h: 0.000 - Share Value: 0.000 ---- Total Share Value submitted to the pool: 0.000000 --------------------------------------------------------------- Val/h 3.231 - PPS: 14099 - 4ch/h: 2503.87 - 5ch/h: 250.39 - 6ch/h: 18.85 - Last 4ch/h: 3142.93 - Last 5ch/h: 0.00 Val/h 3.221 - PPS: 12557 - 4ch/h: 2508.46 - 5ch/h: 249.64 - 6ch/h: 18.79 - Last 4ch/h: 4040.91 - Last 5ch/h: 0.00
And if i check on the ypool webpage the worker hasnt submitted a single valid share That shows you've submitted 13 valid shares so it's doing something. Try making a new worker and see if yPool shows the worker as active.

Secondly, is this a true "miner" or is it solo-mining client replacement?
It's a true miner, a fully standalone program. So does that mean the requirement for a pool, or simply connecting via RPC?
|

I forgot to ask in the other thread: will the miner support multiple GPUs? Secondly, is this a true "miner" or is it solo-mining client replacement?
