The fact that you are dealing with lots of fraud is perhaps the best reason to look into Bitcoin. Zero percent chance of chargebacks and "fake cards."  Bitcoin is more safe than other forms of online payment.

I guess I find Facecrack lame because back in the day, I used to run my own dial-up BBS...ahh...those were the days.  Anyone remember Legend of the Red Dragon http://lord.lordlegacy.com/?

And it was always local people who would hook up because long distance charges were expensive.   There were about 20 BBSs in my town and we were all posted on a shared list that was distributed to every computer store in town.

Then one day the internet came to town and IT RUINED EVERYTHING!

205  Economy / Currency exchange / Looking for a Canadian who wants to buy a bitcoin on: July 24, 2011, 10:07:51 PM
Hi folks...

I am working on my exchange and will be introducing Interac e-Transfers for Canadian deposits and withdrawals.

This appears to be the best way for Canadians to transfer funds from bank to bank.  The cost to send money is $1.50 and it is free to receive.

To do a bank wire transfer in Canada is a complicated process and costs $30.00!!!

So, I am interested to try this payment method to buy and sell bitcoins in Canada.

For more information on the Interac payment system available to Canadians only, please visit: http://www.interac.ca/consumers/faqs.php#eTransfer

So, if you are in Canada and would like to try this payment method, please respond here and send me an IM to get my attention.  I only want to sell 1 bitcoin just to try interac at whatever price you think is fair to cover the fee and your time.

Thanks

Steve

207  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: My new website that I am working on. Need input on: July 22, 2011, 04:37:38 AM
I tell this story to everybody...back in the day when I was taking my network engineer course, we had a guy come in one day, and he told us to open up notepad.  He showed us how to make a simple HTML web page using just notepad.

You need to learn HTML and CSS by working on a simple static page and ONLY using a text editor to do it.

The one thing you need to learn is how to make tables in HTML and then make them look pretty using CSS.

If you use some tool to make a web page that constructs the HTML for you, you are doomed to an unforgiving hell of fighting something you don't understand and much less control.

When you start a web page with a simple text document, it is absolutely bland when you start...but that is the key to success.  Many popular websites are not flashy or have crazy shlt going on...but they are functional and easily navigable.   Although it's on the extreme end on minimalistic, the website for PuTTY comes to mind...it does what it does and everyone's happy without a lot of brewhaha.

212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Converting Paypal into Liberty Reserve on: July 21, 2011, 05:49:52 AM
I am generally weary of any site that only has a web form on it's 'contact us page'.  I prefer to have some sort of identifying information about a company I am giving my money to.

But as far as risk is concerned, as a buyer using PayPal, you have the advantage since you can reverse your payment if you say your e-goods didn't arrive.  And hence, the seller now assumes the risk and thus is why there are not many sellers who accept PayPal.   That also explains their rather high 3% fee.
213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Am I a Bot? Tradehill Captchas on: July 21, 2011, 05:39:53 AM
Captchas are good...but there is always a way around anything.. just set up a free pron site and have your viewers solve the captchas for you.  I heard the guys who make concert ticket scalping bots use a method something like that...grab the image, get someone else to solve it, then have your bot post the solution back.

Try and send the guy an IM...I found this info on his website:

"I'm The Madhatter (from the Bitcoin forums; username: madhatter2)."

Oh, and I'm in Canada too and I sent some mail to a customer in the USA last week, and it arrived already....

The text is SOOOO BIG!  Might be because you are using a wide screen LCD monitor to design your page or something...I have to scroll 40% to get to the other side.

Hard to navigate...you should have a menu that runs down the left side where all that blank space is.

217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Can Am Bitcoin Exchange - Testers Wanted on: July 19, 2011, 08:46:11 PM
Hey folks...

Been working on my bitcoin exchange.

We will initially be trading with Canadian and US dollars for bitcoins when we open.

I'm just looking for some feedback, so I'm putting my site out there for public ridicule and suggestions.

The demo setup is athttps://bitswaps.appspot.com

With the demo account, you get $100 USD, $100 CAD and 20 bitcoins to try our trading system...this is fake money...withdrawls are disabled.

There is still a fair bit of work to do before the site goes official, so I'm just looking for some feedback on my trading system before I get too deep.

The site uses google for user authentication, so you will need a gmail account to join in.  Other login providers will be supported in the future, but we are starting with google.

So, let me know what you think, and I will try my best to answer your questions and implement the changes people desire.

Steve

218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What programming language to learn? on: July 19, 2011, 05:52:26 PM
Back in 96 when I took my network engineer skooling, we had one guy come in and showed us how to write a simple webpage in notepad using simple HTML.  That was my first experience in making webpages and just learning how to do that was pretty cool.  I suggest to anyone who wants to learn this stuff to start by making non dynamic websites just using notepad...forget your dreamweaver and frontpage or whatever and learn how to code a webpage by hand in html.... ooo...and don't forget how to code a proper table cuz you will be doing a lot of those later when you start pulling data out of a database in whatever other languages you will learn.

If you don't know your HTML, there is no point in trying to make a web based app is there?

But like many others here, I do agree PHP can be a nightmare so I'm teaching myself some python and loving it....but you still have to know HTML well to make anything.
