201  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [ SCAM ALERT ] Blackjack.Fun is a cheap Scammer on: May 17, 2024, 04:27:11 PM
Anyone interested to tell him what really happens? No? 'kay...

Its clear he's more interested in creating an alternate universe at this point. Can't get through to people who actively avoid living in this one. He also left me what is perhaps one of the most *special* negative feedbacks I've ever seen, and this was years ago:

Quote
JackpotRacer    2020-03-04    Reference    sadly gave me a very stupid neutral feedback. He does not understand how to read red trust. He needs to learn to read red trust and even if he needs to find a trusted member to teach him and explain where my red trust came from

I was even on DT back then. I mean... wow.

Umm...? Sugar Cube, do you aware of what really happens here? With the flag? No? Sweaty, the flag is about you, you have a flag, your account is flagged.

Here JPR this is for you:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=524209

Just read what is in the yellow box under Active Flags.

I warned the members here that the owners of Moneypot would pull the rug and guess what happened?
They pulled the rug and gave me the red flag and red trust and it is still in my trust even though they pulled the rug.
What does this tell us? That something is wrong with the Red Trust handling in this forum and Theymos should check and redo it.

Ummm no. But nice try, sweaty.

OK I am bowing out of this thread, don't want to bump it anymore.
202  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MemoryDealers aka Roger Ver Arrested! on: May 17, 2024, 03:21:53 PM
The Uniited States tax laws are insane. Despite several attempts to try and wrap my head around it, I hit a brick wall every time. It seems like a design intended to indict people rather than make the process easier for them, you have to figure out what to do and when to do it, otherwise you'll face prosecution.
...
I don't think the IRS is looking to put people in jail necessarily, but they just make doing your taxes unnecessarily difficult/costly as I just said.  The amount of money involved in this case is huge, but for "little people" who owe back taxes or get caught up in tax issues, the IRS usually settles with them in the form of a fine, penalties, whatever and they don't end up in prison.

One thing I learned recently is that the IRS will not go after somebody if the cost of the investigation is larger than the amount of money that can potentially be collected. This info comes first hand from a professional collector who worked as an IRS agent for decades.

Unless you owe, oh lets say $50k or more, the government is unlikely to go after you, because the collectors work on a partly commission-based salary. If you only owe $10k, the amount of commission the collector will receive is small, and in the case of someone like Roger Ver who is living overseas, the cost of the investigation itself could easily surpass $10k. So if that was the case with Ver, he probably would never have been arrested.

TL;DR: small-timers don't have anything to worry about.
203  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: FixedFloat.com stole my funds on: May 17, 2024, 03:00:03 PM
Nobody should be using FixedFloat... They take a Freewallet-type approach of selectively confiscating user funds and only perform taint analysis after they have already moved a customer's coins to their hotwallet. The appropriate thing to do would be to return user funds they don't want to accept before moving them. But they don't do this, probably because they are trying to steal customer coins.

As was mentioned earlier in this thread, exch.cx is a good alternative. I've used them before and never had any problems with them. I also never had any problems with the backend exchangers used in the Exodus wallet (I believe it is ChangeNow), although if there's any chance your coins might be tainted, you might want to avoid them.

Anyway, at least you got something back.

How about this junior member @JamesNZ, seems like his post is written with the help of Ai chat bot ?

What makes you think this text was written with AI? All the AI checkers recommended in this topic have identified this text as being written by a human. Well, except for one AI checker, sapling. But, this AI checker is very often wrong.

Looking at his trust feedback, its implied that he's a ban-evading troll. He's a troll because no matter what logic you present to him, he goes back to his same arguments...

He also promoted what appears to be his YouTube channel in one of his posts in April. I do not think he is using AI but he really has a hardon against bitcoin. That's his right I suppose.

This is what the thread looks like to newbies and visitors not logged into the forum:

Congratulations on your flag. You really tried hard to earn it with what appears to be an extortion attempt, so you deserve it.
206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Donald Trump's stance on Bitcoin is changing, the Trump pump is beginning on: May 17, 2024, 09:30:09 AM
What are you talking about? Bitcoin went up 500% under president Biden.

Over the past 50 years, the (American) economy has tended to fare better under Democratic presidential leadership. That's just the way it is, no matter which candidate says what, I don't make the rules.

One thing to remember is that bitcoin has only ever existed during a bull market. We could have gone into a mean recession during the covid meltdown of March 2020, but the Federal Reserve just printed money like there was no tomorrow, so a larger recession was avoided.

How bitcoin fares during a bear market remains to be seen.

The safe bet here is to stick with Biden and the Democrats.

For bitcoiners, potentially yes. For everyone else, I dunno. I gotta say, as Real 'Merican, its embarrassing that these two old fogies are the best we have to offer for the most powerful position on earth.

But yeah I just saw that Netflix partnership yesterday and thankfully have netflix, but it's a bit annonying how much football is starting to be played off basic cable.
Yeah same with baseball.  It's real annoying that you.have to have multiple subscriptions to watch one team.
...

They are definitely trying to milk us to death... but what are we gonna do, not watch football? No way. I'm gonna be renewing this service I used last season that was for a relatively reasonable price: $40 to watch any game, including preseason, playoffs and Super Bowl.

The best part about it is you can rewatch any old game, from any week, whenever you want. They also cut out all the commercials & downtime from those games, so instead of a game taking 3-4 hours, its only ~1.5 hours. Funny enough, the only method of payment they accept is BTC.

If you want to know more about it, shoot me a PM and I'll send you a invite link.

You should have shown proof first. All you have done so far is make claims that are ridiculous when taken at face value.

Casinos are not in business to lose money. Even if you managed to consistently win all the time, the casino(s) would spot this and make modifications or take the necessary steps to prevent it from continuing.
210  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto as job salary - Yay or Nay? on: May 16, 2024, 04:15:12 AM
Currently bitcoin is just an investment asset, it is not a currency or a popular means of payment.

Maybe for you. I've been paid in crypto exclusively since 2018 and have been using it to buy things pretty regularly for years now.

The hard part is deciding whether or not you can stomach/absorb the risk of a sudden price drop if your entire net worth is crypto-related. For example, the price of Dogecoin dropped 16% in a single day last month, and I had to pay rent the next day, LOL. (All major coins were down that day). This risk is definitely lessened by converting altcoin payments to BTC, or if you prefer no risk, a stablecoin like USDT. (I mean so far Tether hasn't "collapsed" as has been predicted since 2016).

Edit: your account used to use BTC as a currency and means of payment ALL THE TIME, back when it belonged to its original owner, LOL.
211  Economy / Reputation / Re: What is happening in the Stake… on: May 16, 2024, 01:57:33 AM
How would you suggest they improve their campaign?

They are responsible for hiring the biggest number of low-quality shitposters (yourself & a handful of notable others excluded).* Thankfully most of it is confined to the Gambling board. To their credit, it seems they reduced the number of required posts with the new version of their campaign.

I’m not happy about them moving away from BTC, but I understand it’s a business decision. BTC is hostile towards actual businesses with it’s high fees and USDT pays crazy interest, so if this move was necessary to keep the campaign going without reducing payouts, then I can at least understand it.

BTC itself isn't "hostile" -- it doesn't have emotions or an agenda. If they were paying USDT on Ethereum to individual addresses, it would assuredly be more expensive than current BTC fee rates. Paying BTC or USDT to a Stake account is just transactional on their end: no on-chain transactions have to take place until the campaign participant decides to make a withdrawal.

* Oh, I forgot about the Eloncoin campaign. That is actually the worst.
212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Donald Trump's stance on Bitcoin is changing, the Trump pump is beginning on: May 16, 2024, 01:09:12 AM
Yeah, I was merely making a point. It's already a defining moment that a presidential candidate, loved or hated - no matter who he/she is, has thought or said that "he could live with that", or that "he hears the people's calls". It's an absolutely good development. Bitcoin today is entering uncharted paths, and making its most important journey towards real and actual adoption as an asset class.

I suppose, theoretically, its good that Orange Man's handlers have convinced him to say things that could be interpreted as "pro bitcoin," but he's hardly the first presidential candidate to do so. A dark horse independent candidate (who has no chance of winning but could swing the outcome in one direction or another, depending on which party he takes more votes from) named Robert F. Kennedy has made it clear he is pro-bitcoin since he entered the race last year.

https://www.axios.com/2024/03/04/rfk-jr-bitcoin-crypto-currency-freedom
Quote
"Transactional freedom is as important as freedom of expression," Kennedy said during a press conference before his event appearance.
...
"I don't think there's anybody using a podium or a bully pulpit to explain to the American public how inconsistent central bank digital currencies are with our values and how threatening they are to our constitutional rights."

Other (former) candidates that revealed their pro-bitcoin-ness before Trump include Vivek Ramaswamy, Ron Desantis and Tulsi Gabbard. Yes its true that Orange Man is more popular than all of them put together.

214  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Edward Snowden Final Warning for Bitcoin on: May 15, 2024, 02:11:53 PM
It's a complex issue with various perspectives to consider, including technical, regulatory, and philosophical aspects. Discussions like these are important for shaping the future direction of cryptocurrencies.

But, just so it's clear, the conversation could be completely disregarded if someone finds a way within the current consensus rules to offer greater privacy and people choose to use it.  Actions ultimately speak louder than words.  Privacy isn't something we have to ask permission for.  It could just be something we take if a good enough solution is found.  A discussion isn't going to deter those who truly want privacy.

Just FYI, you're trying to have a conversation with AI. This account will never respond to you or anyone else in a meaningful manner.

Regardless, I do agree with you. True to cypherpunk ideals is the concept that privacy should be a right. Privacy & the right to do what you want, so long as it doesn't infringe on the privacy or rights of others.

This user is still at it, couldn't take the hints left for him & they should probably be nuked.

#1:

Your post raises thought-provoking questions about the current state of education and the role of financial literacy in shaping young minds. It's true that our educational system often lacks comprehensive teaching on important financial matters like investment, money management, and cryptocurrency. Introducing Bitcoin as a core subject could indeed provide students with valuable insights into the evolving world of finance and empower them to make informed decisions about their financial future.

However, as you mentioned, there may be challenges in implementing such a curriculum, including resistance from traditional institutions and governmental policies. It's crucial to continue advocating for financial education reforms that reflect the changing landscape of finance and technology. By equipping students with knowledge about Bitcoin and other financial tools, we can better prepare them to navigate the complexities of the modern economy.

Edward Snowden's tweet certainly brings attention to an ongoing debate within the cryptocurrency community about privacy on the protocol level. While some argue that enhancing privacy features in Bitcoin is crucial for security and individual sovereignty, others highlight potential challenges and trade-offs involved in making such changes. It's a complex issue with various perspectives to consider, including technical, regulatory, and philosophical aspects. Discussions like these are important for shaping the future direction of cryptocurrencies.

216  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merit earned by Nigerian Members here in Bitcointalk on: May 15, 2024, 01:25:10 PM
OP next time back your observations with actual statistics, otherwise your claims have no merits (no pun intended, but, they don't)...

It is natural for forum members to merit accounts from their own local boards, although some local boards are definitely more tribal than others.

The only thing that bugs me is the possibility that alt accounts are being ranked up as quickly as possible to join sig campaigns. Beyond the connections I already uncovered in this thread, I don't see a proportionally larger amount of alts stemming from the Nigeria section.

This is a nothingburger of a topic, should be locked.

Another banger by the mysterious Max Headroom wizard.

In fact, in this case, I think overzealous reporting might actually do more harm than good (that is, it's probably counterproductive in terms of the forum's health: for minor violations, the benefit of having a superficially cleaner forum is probably more than matched by the damage caused in making this place feel inhospitable).

You're probably right about that, and I think its equal parts annoying for the the mod and the poster who is having their posts merged. Sometimes its pretty clear when a thread-starter is just posting to keep their thread at the top of a section; sometimes its just an rules education issue, and I usually warn the poster that their posts will be deleted if they keep doing consecutive posts. Some listen and some don't.

I like how its just a warning and optional rather than explicitly prohibiting the poster from making a consecutive post. Seems like there is a precedent for such a thing to be instated as there is a similar warning that accompanies would-be necro-posts/bumps.
220  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈 The United Football League (UFL) 2024 Thread 🏈 on: May 13, 2024, 02:41:38 AM
3 games to go in the regular season, and 3 teams have already been eliminated from playoff contention -- that's nearly half the league, lol.

Attendance has been relatively poor at most games, with the average attendance being around 10k-11k. Just look how empty the ends are:

For whatever reason, the St. Louis Battlehawks have the most fans. In Week 2, they had a home game with over 40k in the stands -- the highest for any game in the league. They play at The Dome, where the Rams initially played when they made the move from L.A. in 1995. So 40k is about 2/3 of the stadium's total capacity.

Hard to tell whether or not they will keep the league going for next year. Doesn't seem to be any more interest in it than there was for the XFL or USFL. Wonder if they are making money or not.
