@lyth0s
I concur. A sustained BTC rally, plus well-timed DB and GUI release should herald a very merry xmas and a happy new year for XMR holders.

These are all excellent points! Please note this latest round of inflation curve drama is solely the result of the self-appointed MEW and its wannabe King Whale, who is well known for personifying the mania of crypto's irrationally exuberant highs and its correspondingly depressive lows.
What do you mean by self-appointed MEW? It is a group of XMR holders and supporters who each contributed XMR to the group (half of which goes directly to the Dev's). I do agree the drama about the emission schedule seems to have followed from the price decline, which has happened during a general crypto bear market. Everyone needs to remember that post hoc ergo propter hoc is a logical fallacy. There is no evidence that the 'fast' emission schedule has caused the price decline since September (even as the emission rate falls). I don't believe it is necessary but, if the emission rate were to be reduced, I think ArticMine's suggestion of gradually increasing the block time would probably be the best way. As for bagholder, I have been buying more XMR in every month since June, and I am sanguine about holding. Q

Great. These are two foundation stones for building broader adoption IMHO. Efficiency (in terms of resources and costs) first, then usability.

I am very much looking forward to M3 #18. Especially keen to see the (lower) per-kb transaction fees, as this should encourage greater trading volume/liquidity. Further news on LMDB progress would be a bonus.

Just for the record though, if you seek for a good place to look for serious anonymity https://qubes-os.org/ is what you should look first (and probably last). Maybe XMR implementation within this OS should be adequate enough for 99% of the users out there. Thanks for that. I haven't tried Tails yet, but both look interesting. I was looking up secure browsers yesterday, and found these of interest: - Comodo Dragon/IceDragon
- Whitehat Aviator
Has anyone tried any of these? Q

Hi All. I'm going to transfer some money into BTC tomorrow morning. I want to purchase some more XMR but I'm worried. Where is the bottom? .0017? .0016? .0015? Anyone have any idea ? I'm going to guess .0016 but who knows.
It depend if you can handle a little loss or not. If you want a safe technique, here it is : - take half of your FIAT and buy BTC straight - divide your BTC into multiple buy orders for XMR - in case XMR get lower, you'll be buying lower and your average buy price will stay close to the actual price - do the same with FIAT/BTC, divide your investment into multiple buy orders - add more buy orders for XMR as you get more BTC IMO, the price could get lower but not that much. On the long term it is highly probable that there will be multiple bubbles (pump), so a lot of opportunities to sell high. I concur. Pretty much an exact description of my strategy since early June. :-)

RAM usage is continuing to get worse as well. I have 7.67/8GB in use now and rising as it's syncing.
Hmmm... first post on the thread. Could you post a screenshot/snip of task manager (if using windows) or top (in linux) to demonstrate this?

@akula999 Yes, from what i read here what people posted in past, that more RAM you have more it gets used. Least i saw someone said, run it on 3gb RAM. It seems we have newbie accounts FUD attack again No, daemon uses same RAM as it did back in May to me. And devs spend quite of some money to support what they do, not to mention they do it for free. I'm sorry you feel my post if FUD. Hopefully not all questions in your minds perception is equal to FUD. Maybe you're having a bad day. But, if feel i'm trying to spread FUD, then I feel sorry for you. Unlike most people here, i'm not in the tech industry. I'm just having an issue with my one PC which has bitmonerod running on it (nothing else, windows 7 w/ 8gb ram). Do you know how to access Task Manager? Control Alt Delete, then select from menu. List the items by increasing memory usage, and monitor the top entries on the list while starting the daemon. As I posted earlier, on my Windows 8 system bitmonerod uses less than 4.5 GB RAM throughout sync and when fully synced (as now).

It's called Virtual Memory in Windows and appears under advanced system settings.

I think it just uses most you have. Some said it use most of their 3 gb RAM. Probably also most of 16 gb RAM. It is true that is not so convenient to run bitmonerod. You just do when you really have to. Lets hoe soon will get better. This is not true on my system. I just launched the daemon and synced up and it's using less than 4.5 GB. Total RAM 32 GB; Win 8.1.

Can't seem to do anything in the Editor, so here is the image of my L7 single-storey design outline. 5 Rooms - Great Hall to North, Bedrooms to West (3x3 could be bathroom), Living room to SW, Kitchen to SE. 6 Windows - all south or east facing. 2 External Doors - opposite each other for carrying food from kitchen to great hall. 4 Internal Doors Paved courtyard area and alleyway to east. Total room are is 73, and number of wall blocks excluding city wall to North is 54. Longest span is 4 for the great hall, with spans of 3 elsewhere. Should be reasonably economical to build. Could be made more luxurious with more windows.

We need per kB fee out asap. I believe it's the database that will help with RAM usage. Per kB fees relate to transaction costs.

I haven't had any luck getting any CKG yet, but I went ahead and designed a nice L7 building yesterday to fit in a 9x20 plot (zone C, 10x20, with alleyway on one side). It is saved as an image at the moment, and I'm happy to share it but am not sure how to upload on this forum. Cheers, Q

everybody wants to buy at a low price .... but this only worsens the situation ..... miners refuse, and this leads to a rather weak network, less confidence and many people will turn to other coins. And when attention be transferred to other coin ..... all is lost
than 3 days I stopped mining because I'm at a loss
I'm not going to buy because of the promise of a bright future for XMR is not live, I'll keep what I've mining maybe sell them after 2-3 years who knows if I will not ... I will lost electricity for four months for my rig
I am a little excited by these ridiculous monero prices
PS vicious circle is as follows
difficulty falling and falling the price, because other people get more coins at the lower difficulty and they still sell at low price
You seem a little jittery. Try not to panic. Monero is going through a transition phase from its initial fast emission, and should settle down over the next 6 months. Remember that the emission rate is constantly dropping, and the monthly increase as a percentage of the current total supply is dropping even faster. To give you an idea, there were over 25k XMR/day being produced early on and that has now dropped to under 20k. In another 6 months it will be down to 15k and a year after that below 10k/day. Hope that help, Q

Finally took the effort on reading up on this coin. Seems to offer a lot and it's pricing becomes increasingly attractive. This could be a good entry point for steady accumulation.
Welcome aboard Wekkel. Poloniex is a good exchange for Monero if you'd like to get started. The price is attractive right now IMHO. I have been buying the dips to hold since early June, and just bought another 5k when it returned to 0.002 yesterday. As well as the Devs, you may want to look here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=700400and here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=776479.msg9049932#msg9049932for Monero supporters. Q
