201  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Drake did it again! Another huge losing bet... on: June 19, 2024, 05:59:44 AM
This might look like a big loss to those of us who have not seen that kind of money but to Drake, it is just a small money he can throw away without blinking an eye. As a celebrity,  a single function can fetch him multiple of that amount, even monetization in his social media handle or commercial can rake in that much for him. Hence, He might just be gambling for fun as some people claim such happens, but we should be extremely careful not to imitate him else we might not like the outcome. It is always right to check ones limit in terms of financial injection into gambling.
I'm sure that Drake, gambles the amount that he can afford to loose so I wouldn't worry about him going bankrupt because of the huge amounts that he loses in gambling. And I don't advice anybody that is not as rich as him to take the high risks that he takes in betting amounts that is clearly outrageous to the average income earners. I think that his serial loses are not good for his imagine as a celebrity, people likes to associate with success rather than failures, which is making me to wonder whether he ever wins big because I've never heard of drake's big wins. We don't know if his loses are a public stunts like some people are insinuating, if it is, then they are negative stunts.
202  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: We all know the rules on: June 18, 2024, 03:52:59 PM
I don't know why some users keep making this thing an issue, something that has been discussed time and again, it is fine to use both English and Pidgin, and you fit even mix the two of dem for one post, as i dey do now. I don't get what the problem is, live and let live; if you do not want to use English, then don't do so, but do not dictate to others what they should do.

If we have any need to review some of our rules, we go do am, but for now, me i no see any reason to do it. If you make your thread self moderated and you are deleting posts only because they are written in English, then e no make sense at all and you'll basically make users start avoiding your threads.

Creating self-moderated threads is fine, but it becomes a problem when you start removing other people's comments only because they are written in English; this sends a wrong message and causes discrimination among us. If someone decides to remove Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and other local languages from their thread, I have no problem with that; however, removing the English language, which has been adopted by the community, is problematic.

There are Nigerians who understand both languages but only write in English, which is why we adopted both languages in the first place. Most of the Pidgin language I've read on this local board is horribly written and difficult to read. Sorry to say.

I deleted that thread for breaking the language rules and for discrimination.
Our capable moderator, I hail your decision to delete dat @Obari, thread, based on wetin I hear about am for dis thread. Evendo say I no get di opportunity to read am, e don become bygone unto say you don do di right thing. Wen I join dis local board as a newbie, I reason am say we suppose to de make posts with pidgin English alone, so dat wen  foreigners wey de visit di board, dem go de see say we get unique Nigerian styled English, I even start topic about di matter. But as @Charles-Tim, talk am, me sef I don observe say di matter of pidgin versus English don de debated for different threads inside dis our board and di resolutions na say make English and pidgin de acceptable for dis board and I don accept am like dat.

Me sef I observe say some of our pidgin English for dis board de hard to understand, so if any of our people wan type for pidgin English, make dem try to de use words and spellings wey others go fit to de comprehend easily.
203  Other / Politics & Society / Bill Clinton and Pope Francis, calls for urgent depopulation to save the planet on: June 18, 2024, 12:21:08 PM
I came across this news some days back and I began to wonder whether overpopulation is part of the major problems that we're facing today in the world. Pope Francis and Bill Clinton, are both prominent people in the world, the Pope is a respected religious leader and head of the Catholic church, while Bill Clinton, is a renowned politician and former president of America. They're both influencial people and what they say matters in the world's religious, politics and economics. So if what they're advocating for comes to reality, will the world be better for it? https://l.kphx.net/s?d=7678471627321821519&extra=Q1RSWT1ORyZMTkc9ZW4tVVM=&g=6e11378cb897003ad1e0ef00bd152f90

Although overpopulation is a problem in underdeveloped countries because of their backwardness in terms of technological advancements and poor leaderships in their economies. But I believe that developed countries don't have the problems of overpopulation, in fact they're accepting immigrants into their countries to boost their workforces. I don't think that it's right to focus on reducing the population of the world, instead couples should be advised to give birth to the number of children that they can carter for.

Reducing the human population can degenerate to wiping out people who are seen as undesirables and mass genocide through technology. It can lead to increased abortion rate and women taking contraceptive pills, and this is something that the Catholic church preaches against. The leaders of the world should focus on green planet, advance technology to grow more food, not reducing the human race. Everybody born into this world has a right to live.
204  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling winnings should NOT be taxed on: June 18, 2024, 09:31:33 AM
People indirectly pay taxes without knowing it, when you enter a shop to buy something, you'll be paying value added tax on what you bought, also when you earn, the payee has deducted tax from the amount that you're entitled to receive and the government is the receiver of these taxes. I feel that in countries like Australia, where gambling is not taxed, their governments can still be collecting income taxes from the gambling companies, who will remit it from the percentages of gamblers bets. Tax is the major source of income of governments and they are therefore entitled to every income that is made in their country, whether directly or indirectly including gambling..
205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where to buy or exchange dirty BTC/USDT? on: June 18, 2024, 07:54:11 AM
Hi,
I saw someone talking about dirty BTC/USDT, is this real or a scam? Where can buy or exchange it?
It is the government and some anti-Bitcoin forces that always come up with the concept of dirty Bitcoin. They insinuate that dirty Bitcoin has been associated with illegal activities such as money laundering, drugs, hacked wallets, scams, etc. But the bottom line is that there is nothing like dirty Bitcoin. Just like fiat, Bitcoin can be used by criminals and this action doesn't make the money dirty. I recently read that 80% of fiat currency has been used for illegal activities. It will be difficult to identify these so-called dirty coins except the address was flagged and blacklisted by government agencies. Why do you want to be involved in such a transaction? The dark web might be a good place to ask this question.
It's precisely governments and anti Bitcoin forces that can label Bitcoin that is seized from money launderers, hackers and other criminal activities as dirty Bitcoin, instead of calling it seized Bitcoin. The fact however remains that Bitcoin is not a dirty cryptocurrency or digital cash, it is decentralized and is hodled and spent by legit individuals and institutions including criminal individuals and organizations. I wonder if seized fiat currencies are called dirty, I seriously doubt it, but it's very convenient for people who wants to give Bitcoin a bad name to call it dirty and tainted and they will still go ahead to sale what they termed as dirty and tainted.

I'm also curious at why the OP will ask where to buy dirty Bitcoin, like you I believe that the best place to make such enquiry is in the dark web. A reputable forum like bitcointalk is not the right place to get information about illegal activities.
206  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What if you have a casino? on: June 18, 2024, 06:09:59 AM
A little guessing the thoughts of casino owners and gambling dealers when they see gamblers playing in their casinos, what might come to mind?

In economics the reward for entrepreneurs is profit or lose and I doubt that any of them will take the lose option, so casinos and bet owners obviously wants to make profit from their businesses. I do believe that standard businesses wants to give their customers value for their money so they won't mind some gamblers winning, so far the aggregate of losers is far greater than the winners, the casino owners will be happier. Some casino owners will see their establishments as recreational facilities where people come to spend their money to have fun, so it doesn't matter if they're loosing their money, so far they're enjoying themselves. Although the reality about gambling is that generally gamblers lose more than they win, meaning that the gambling companies profits more than they lose.
207  Economy / Speculation / Re: $120,000 Bitcoin is going to happened? on: June 17, 2024, 08:16:21 PM
I am new to BitcoinTalk BTC

My question is that I heard rumors about $120,000 Bitcoin
What is your opinion on this matter?
Welcome to the forum and as for what you've heard about Bitcoin price reaching $120k, that is not a rumor, it's something that will surely happen. The question that you should be asking is when will this $120k price happen, I doubt that anybody can give you an accurate answer or predictions. What I can tell you is that Bitcoin is a long term project, you buy, hodl and wait for as long as it takes before price will reach your estimated price. If you research Bitcoin history from it's creation till now, you'll understand that it has gained a reputation as a store of value that it's price will continue to increase in every bull run and it'll always reach new ATH price.
208  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Concerns grow over online gambling among teens on: June 17, 2024, 07:07:14 PM

"It's time for schools to focus on the root cause of online teen gambling by implementing gambling prevention education in all high schools. Health class curricula across the nation cover the typical risks for teens such as smoking, drinking, vaping, etc yet gambling education is nowhere to be found in our schools. "

The importance of high schools implementing gambling prevention educative programs can not be overemphasized, especially in this new age that almost every teenager has a smart phone. I see teens that I believe are not up to 18 years entering sports bet shops, and everybody is minding their business, meaning that people are accepting it as a normal thing.

The reason why I believe that schools are not laying much emphasis on teenage gambling education is because it doesn't have a direct effect to human health. Unlike alcohol and smoking that are consumed directly into the body and can be dangerous to health. But school authorities needs to understand that irresponsible and addictive gambling is equally dangerous to health and young people needs to be educated on the need to be matured before gambling their money.
209  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Limited supply of Bitcoin more of a disadvantage than an advantage. on: June 17, 2024, 05:59:07 PM
Di limited supply of Bitcoin mean say e no be like fiat wey get infinite supply, di limited supply go make sure say di value go still de go up. If Bitcoin get infinite supply dat one go mean say e no go de necessary to hodl am because people go get di mindset say in di future di value go reduce, unto say e go become common and ordinary asset.

Di reason why gold and diamond still get high value till today be say dem de scarce, if person de dig gold and diamond for gutter everyday e no go get value again. As some experienced members don emphasize for dis thread, e no de necessary say person must get up to 1 Bitcoin in the future when di price go de higher, dat na why we get Satoshi, wey be units of Bitcoin. One of di best features wey make to be a store of value na because of di limited supply.
210  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you think casinos can stop demanding KYC? on: June 17, 2024, 05:02:33 PM
I firmly believe that KYC has come to stay in the gambling industry, every reputable casino and bet companies will demand for it, so that people and governments will not point accusing fingers at them for aiding money laundering. Many gamblers will prefer anonymity in their gambling but because criminals are using gambling accounts to facilitate money laundering, every genuine gambler needs to understand that it has become necessary for them to submit KYC to help mentain the sanity of the gambling industry. Now criminals have fewer options to launder money, so despite the odds of submitting KYC, it serves a greater good.
211  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Bitcoin reserved funds are not meant for fun spending on: June 16, 2024, 02:49:39 PM

Our reasons as to spending from reserved funds shouldn't be for fun or enjoyment purposes so when a more pressing financial need strikes we should be able to afford it and not cater on how to raise such an amount of money.
Bitcoin investment no mean say person no go plan to enjoy himself, afterall di main reason wey we de take do investment na to enjoy a better life for future. Di solution to not spending money anyhow na to get budget for your income, you need to get plans for every expenses wey you go make so dat distractions no go enter, anything wey no de for di budget no go follow for expenditures. So person fit to make budget once in a while for fun and enjoyment because all work and no play no good for mental well-being.

Competition no de for Bitcoin investment, person go accumulate and hodl as im power reach from di budget wey im map out for investment. Di most important thing na to comot money for di basic needs of di month, save some money for miscellaneous and emergency expenses, den comot money for your Bitcoin DCA method. Once in a while if no emergency expenses happen, then e good to take di money to entertain yourself, afterall na you work for am.
212  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is web3 casino the new trend for casinos? on: June 16, 2024, 12:17:20 PM
Whether they're built as web3 casinos right from the start or they're integrating web3 features to their existing platforms, these casinos need license or registration at the very least to be able to operate legally.

That itself is enough to take this "anonymity and privacy" thing with a pinch of salt. To operate legally means they're bound by certain regulations. They cannot insist on "anonymity and privacy" when the regulating bodies to which they're accountable order them to implement KYC/AML policies. We have to remember that these web3 casinos are still private centralized companies. They toe the line or perish.
I don't think that web3 casinos can achieve complete anonymity for their gamblers because I doubt that any government will allow it, they'll always require some sort of KYC to monitor money laundering activities through them. I always wonder how a private or centralized establishment can successfully run a business that will guarantee anonymity for it's customers, so I think that there's no way that a web3 casino can fully attain complete decentralized status. We'll just wait and see how the innovations of future gambling through web3 casinos will fare.
213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Investing wisely in memecoins can give you returns. on: June 16, 2024, 10:02:02 AM
Some meme coins always do really well in a bull run. The difficulty is trying to pick the right ones because there are so many. It’s easy to pick the wrong ones & end up getting REKT but if you pick the right ones you can make life changing money. This is the game we play though, it’s live or die.
There are too many memecoins in the crypto market and it can be very confusing to make a pick from them because there are too many scam projects, so it always comes down to gambling your funds. I don't think that research helps much when it comes to memecoins because the ones that comes highly recommended might not live up to expectations and when you invest and lose your money, I doubt that you can hold anybody responsible. Apart from reputable memecoins like dogecoin, Shiba Inu and pepe, most of the rest are gambles, just make a pick, invest the amount that you can afford to loose and don't hodl for long term. They can give you massive profit on the short term and they can also sink with your funds, so know your risk tolerance before buying memecoins.
214  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is this true or some superstitious believe about gambling? on: June 16, 2024, 08:18:20 AM
What's your opinion about this please?
It is common in my country for people to blame demons for their mistakes, carelessness, foolishness, and mediocrity. When criminals are caught they always blame Satan for pushing them to engage in the crime. If you were oppurtuned to know this man's gambling history you will be surprised that he was a careless gambler who never took any precautions during his gambling days. After he had lost so much, he would generally blame demons.

His claims are false because it has no scientific or even religious backing. This mindset is one of the superstitious beliefs that people blame after they have failed to do their homework. Anybody familiar with gambling will know that the house has more advantages and if you are not comfortable with the area arrangement it will be better to stop gambling than to blame demons.
It's easier and more convenient for people to blame others, circumstances, devil, demons and the universe for their mistakes and wrong decisions. The old man in the story was probably an irresponsible gambler or an addicted gambler, so it was easier for him to blame the devil and demons for his failures in gambling. We should know that we're responsible for our actions and neither God or devil can make our decisions for us, so people should stop blaming devil and demons when they lose in gambling because they're the ones that chooses to gamble, knowing that they can either win or lose. The assumption that gambling is from the devil or inspired by him is baseless, just like some people in my country will tell you that very rich people are in secret societies and it's devil that gives them riches, they're all assumptions of the poor..
215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Be careful with your crypto holdings and what you do with it on: June 15, 2024, 03:38:02 PM
Anybody that hodl Bitcoin, legitimately don't have anything to worry about, it's not a criminal asset and that is why it's adoption is increasing everyday. Many investors have hodled Bitcoin for years and they've never had any issues with the authorities, so the lady that was convicted in the OP Link got into trouble because she used Bitcoin for money laundering which is a crime. Bitcoin is a decentralized digital cash that anybody can hodl, both the innocent and criminals, so when the criminals uses it for money laundering and they get caught, they pay the price for their criminal activities which has nothing to do with those that hodl it legitimately.
216  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Spanish Guy loses more than €500.000 in a crypto casino on: June 15, 2024, 11:25:21 AM
I really feel sorry for the guy in the OP that lost his life's savings in gambling, his story should be a lesson to every gambler that thinks that gambling is a get rich quick scheme, they'll end up becoming addicts and  broke. I'm glad that he has realized his mistake and is getting professional help, hopefully he'll come out a better and more responsible person, hopefully to quit gambling or learn to gamble with the amount that he can afford to loose. I think that he'll lose more money if he goes ahead to involve a lawyer because the casino company will ask him that if was winning instead of loses whether they wouldn't be paying him. Let him minimize his loses and move on.
217  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Nor Be Just to Know Bitcoin, Na Who Teach You and Wetin Dem Tell You on: June 15, 2024, 08:36:08 AM
This kinds of stories na im de give people bad impression about Bitcoin, dem go de reason say di decentralized digital cash na for money laundering, meanwhile dem go forget say most criminal activities na through fiat currencies dem de occur. I de glad say our police do dem work well by apprehending di ungrateful boys, atleast people go understand say di purpose of Bitcoin for di crime na just a means of payment, no be say Bitcoin itself na criminal cryptocurrency.

I know say di negative perception wey many people get about Bitcoin wen e first come out don change because di awareness and adoption de increase everyday for di country. No matter wetin person wey introduce you to Bitcoin tell you, you suppose DYOR because na money matter
218  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you have a habit of tracking your gambling progress? on: June 15, 2024, 05:58:27 AM
Do you have a habit of tracking your gambling progress?

I’m not sure either if tracking is still advisable while most of the casino already have loyalty page to track your total wager volume and stats on your casino account. It will be very painful to track progress if you are frequently losing than winning. This might ignite too a more chasing losses in the future so I really suggest to don’t do it in regular basis.
I don't really see the point in tracking gambling progress because in the end I doubt that the gambler will be delighted with the results. It's a clear fact that people lose more than they win in gambling and checking their progress will be like counting their loses, it's either that they will embark on a quest to recover their loses which can lead them to becoming addicts or angry with themselves for indulging in gambling. So it's not advisable to worry about the progress of gambling to know how much you've put in and what you've profited or lost, unless you're a professional gambler. Best approach for people that gambles for fun is to do so with the amount that can afford to loose.
219  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Accepting Crypto Salaries Worth It? on: June 14, 2024, 03:58:57 PM
Receiving salaries in cryptocurrency is worth it because it doesn't have any boundaries and the receiver don't have to worry about the location where they receive it. It's true that cryptocurrencies are volatile and a crypto like Bitcoin, is best to hodl on the long term, but the receiver will need money on the short term, that is why I'll prefer that they receive salaries in stablecoins.

With stablecoins a person can budget their salary, the ones for expenditure can be converted to fiat and the one for long term savings or investments can be converted to Bitcoin. Also Bitcoin is a good option to collect salaries with, it's a digital cash for payments and an investment asset that is a store of value.  The holder can convert Bitcoin to stablecoins for short term savings and some to fiat for payments where they don't accept Bitcoin.
220  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino/gambling center near an institution of learning? on: June 14, 2024, 10:33:10 AM
Do you think having a casino or any gambling center close to an institution of learning, will influence the students somehow or should I say be a positive or negative reinforcement on them, in anyway?

Thoughts?
Actually in our current age, I see most youth/students betting online while though having these center's will even influences more others to gamble since they can physically meet like minded peers.

In this internet age where we have online casinos, students and anybody else doesn't need physical casinos to gamble, they only need a smart phone to do so. But if these physical casinos and sports bet shops are situated near institutions, it'll help to influence more students into gambling, even those that are not into it can become curious and want to experiment what it feels like to gamble like fellow students.

I think that the main reason why physical gambling establishments are not supposed to be near schools is because majority of the students are not financially independent, they depend on parents and loved ones to cater for their financial needs. In that regard anything that can distract their attentions to spending money that is given to them outside of their studies should be discouraged.
