LTC will reach $100 by the end of year, for sure.

But I still don't know if will be more profitable than Bitcoin.

205  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-09-02] Bitcoin Prices Retreat From All-Time High on: September 03, 2017, 03:09:29 AM
Bitcoin prices retreated today, approaching $4,500 after surpassing $5,000 for the first time ever.

The price of Bitcoin fell to as little as $4,529.37 today, close to 10% below the all-time high of $5,013.91, data provided by CoinDesk's Bitcoin Price Index (BPI) reveals.

At the time of report, the cryptocurrency had bounced back slightly, trading at $4,662.30, additional BPI figures show.

[Ed note: Investing in cryptocoins or tokens is highly speculative and the market is largely unregulated. Anyone considering it should be prepared to lose their entire investment.]

Profit Taking

As for what caused Bitcoin's modest pullback, analysts have pointed to traders taking profits.

"The technical traders were waiting to take profits at $5,000," said Brad Chun, chief investment officer of Shuttle Fund Advisor, a hedge fund that focuses on digital assets. Some of these traders even went so far as to open up short positions, he added.

A Modest Pullback

Thus far, this trader activity has only resulted in modest declines in the price of Bitcoin.

The less than 10% drop that the cryptocurrency experienced in the last 24 hours is far smaller than the sharp drop that Bitcoin prices suffered after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rejected a proposed Bitcoin exchange-traded fund in March.

When the SEC issued this ruling, the cryptocurrency fell nearly 30% in a few hours, as reported by CoinDesk.

Downside Potential

While Bitcoin prices have only dropped slightly over the last 24 hours, further declines could trigger a broader sell-off, said Petar Zivkovski, COO of leveraged cryptocurrency trading platform Whaleclub.

"I agree that this is likely a temporary pullback as long as the $4,400 support level holds," he said, adding that most likely, some market participants are simply taking profits to secure their gains as the cryptocurrency's bull market continues.

However, he emphasized that if Bitcoin prices fall below $4,400, it could trigger a long squeeze, while could cause the cryptocurrency to decline into the low $4,000s and maybe even below that level.

Investor Opportunity

While Zivkovski spoke to the potential downside, Chun offered a more optimistic assessment, stating that:

"These pull backs provide a buying opportunity for long term buyers."

Bitcoin prices have surged more 400% this year, continuing to deliver impressive gains as they benefit from a number of tailwinds.

Going forward, some believe that the cryptocurrency will keep enjoying robust gains, with one analyst recently predicting that Bitcoin prices could surpass $100,000 in 10 years, CNBC reported.

206  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-09-02] Bitcoin Breaks $5,000 in Latest Price Frenzy on: September 03, 2017, 03:08:12 AM
The price of the world's best known digital currency briefly crossed the $5,000 mark on a major index for the first time on Friday evening ET, before retreating about 5% in subsequent hours.
The idea of Bitcoin breaking the symbolic milestone of $5,000 would have been unthinkable to most people at the start 2017, when the price topped $1,000 for the first time. If you're keeping track, the digital currency is up 500% this year, and nearly 2200% since mid-2015, when it was in the doldrums at around $220.
There appears to be no single reason for the recent run-up. Instead, it can likely be explained by the same factors driving this year's cryptocurrency bull run: Publicity-driven speculation; New financial products creating unprecedented liquidity; Trading surges in Asian markets; Institutional investors treating digital currency as a permanent new asset class.
Meanwhile, the $5,000 milestone is likely to trigger a new round of chatter that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are in a bubble and vulnerable to a major price collapse. Bitcoin has experienced a series of spectacular crashes in the past (most recently in 2014 when it dropped around 75%) but has always recovered.

Finally, it should be noted that Bitcoin crossed $5,000 on an index used by the trade publication Coindesk, but not by other major indexes. This is significant because Coindesk's BPI index includes prices from several Asian exchanges, where prices are typically higher than US or European one. Here's a screenshot showing the milestone (the time shown is GMT):

A more conservative price estimate can be found on an index created by the Winkelvoss twins, are among the world's biggest holders of Bitcoin. Known as the Winkdex, the index only draws data from U.S.-dollar denominated exchanges. As you can see, the index's calculation shows how Bitcoin prices approached the $5,000 mark, but did not break it:

Bitcoin is not the only cryptocurrency to achieve new highs this week. Ethereum nearly crossed the $400 mark for the first time while another smaller rival, Litecoin, briefly broke through the $90 mark.
As of Saturday late morning ET, Bitcoin was trading between $4,500 and $4,600.

207  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-09-02] Two Big Tests For Bitcoin on: September 03, 2017, 03:06:21 AM
Bitcoin, the digital currency that has turned into the new “gold” among investors and traders around the world, is in for two big tests. The first test is simple, and involves Bitcoin’s price chart. The digital currency must overcome the barrier of the $5000-mark, which it already crossed last night before pulling back towards the $4800-mark. Milestone numbers are important for traders following price and volume charts, as they confirm/reject market momentum.

The second test is more complicated. It involves the actions of big governments that have been following with great unease the rising in popularity of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies that threaten to abolish their monopoly in creating money and collecting seigniorage income.

Back at the end of July, the SEC ruled that cryptocurrency “IPOs” or Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) are investments, and therefore, should be subject to the same rules as regular stocks.

That ruling sent all major cryptocurrencies sharply lower, before rebounding towards new highs.

Apparently, traders and investors thought that this ruling could eventually be positive for cryptocurrencies, as it will limit the supply of new digital currencies coming to the market. Thus, the new high reached overnight for Bitcoin.

Now comes the National Internet Finance Association of China (NIFA) to warn investors that ICO projects are a threat to the stability of China’s financial sector.

China and Asia are among the biggest markets for Bitcoin and any warning from Asian governments, especially from the Chinese government, shouldn’t be taken slightly.

That could, perhaps, explain the big sell off in most digital currencies on Saturday, though it is still too early to determine whether the sell-off was technical or fundamental.

Doesn't matter the moves after August, the snapshot has been made on 1 of August, future moves won't affect the BCC balance associated with the private keys

$5000 is a mark, so there probably will have some more resistance than usual.

In this situation, that means some 8 or 12 hours until $5000 is broken.

219  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-09-01] Litecoin Prices and Bitcoin Prices Are Trading at Record Highs on: September 01, 2017, 08:13:26 PM
Litecoin Prices and Bitcoin Prices Are Trading at Record Highs – Here's Why

Another day, another record high for Litecoin prices and Bitcoin prices. The price of Bitcoin is nearing $5,000 and sat at $4,834.47 per unit in early Friday trading.

Meanwhile, Litecoin surpassed a market capitalization of $4 billion thanks to an 18.3% surge in value over the last 24 hours. Traders in South Korea and China are pouring into the cryptocurrency, with 22% of Litecoin's trading volume in the last 24 hours happening in South Korea, according to CoinDesk.

Overall, the global cryptocurrency market shot to a record $176.4 billion in market capitalization. Part of the surge has been tied to hedge funds, which are pouring capital into the crypto market in order to bolster their returns.

Hedge funds have largely failed to replicate or outperform the broader returns of the S&P 500 over the last five years. Cryptocurrencies, which are blowing the doors off the stock market in 2017, have become a popular asset among money managers.

Top performers from the largest 50 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization included Basic Attention Token (up 25.6%), Ethereum Classic (up 22.9%), Metal (up 36.6%), and PIVX (which jumped more than 43.3%). There were few losers in the industry on Friday. However, Nexus did shed 15.5%, Veritaseum dropped 14.7%, and Monaco fell another 20%.

Below is a recap of the top cryptocurrency prices at 10:00 a.m. EDT.

Bitcoin: $4,834.47, +3.32%

Ethereum: $389.38, +1.41%

Ripple: $0.25, +6.8%

Bitcoin Cash: $598.34, +0.55%

Litecoin: $77.59, +18.3%

Now that we know all of today's price movements, here's what has been moving these cryptocurrencies…

Bitcoin Hits New All-Time High

The bulls of Bitcoin have been out in force this week.

Standpoint Research analyst and founder Ronnie Moas projected that Bitcoin would hit $7,500 by mid-2018 and said it would rally between $15,000 and $20,000 in the next three years.

On Thursday, Bitcoin bull Charlie Shrem hinted that $100,000 for Bitcoin will be considered cheap in the future.

Shrem argued that scarcity – the fact that there will only ever be 21 million BTC – will make it harder and harder to purchase just one.

Ethereum Prices Pushing Toward $400

The Ethereum price was following Bitcoin higher Friday.

The market capitalization of Ethereum surpassed $36.6 billion, but 24-hour volume was far below that of Bitcoin and Litecoin. Many investors are eyeing the psychological level of $400.

Ripple Buying Still Strong in South Korea

The price of Ripple has been on fire this month thanks to a major surge of investment from South Korean traders this month.

In addition, Ripple announced Thursday that Bitcoin IRA, a company engaged in retirement funds that include cryptocurrencies, has added the XRP token to its accounts.

Ripple joins Bitcoin and Ethereum as the three digital currencies in Bitcoin IRA's plans. The firm will add Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Ethereum Classic in the coming weeks.

Litecoin Prices Rally to Almost $80

Litecoin flew past the $75.00 mark and hit a new all-time high as speculators in Asia continue to advocate for the "silver to Bitcoin's gold."

There isn't any real reason that one can tie the recent surge in Litecoin prices to over the last few weeks.

However, it appears that many investors are optimistic that Litecoin will have its Lightning Network online before Bitcoin can make similar advancements.
