201  Other / Off-topic / Re: Already delays in BFL shipment plans? on: October 20, 2012, 10:26:46 PM
First it was Oct, then Nov and now Dec. If Tom is able to deliver end of Nov the BFL per-order customer are screwed. If this Dec news is true my estimation is, that customers will not see any BFL ASIC product in 2012.

If a gambler were to bet on both of the favorite horses to win, then the gambler would win either way.
Yep. I have preorders for both BFL and bASIC for roughly equal amounts of USD. I don't really care which company releases first.

I would have put money down on some Avalon as well if their pre-ordering process wasn't so fucked up.
202  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Is ASIC's a SCAM? on: October 20, 2012, 10:19:10 PM

Say you can make 900 a day, that doesn't mean they're bought. Last time I checked they had like 33 pre-orders for the top end rigs.
Why would you accept $330,000 profit, when in 1 month, 33 rigs will bring in at current rate $575,784 monthly before electric costs at an expense of $660,000 that someone else already paid? 2 months you make 1.14 million refund $660,000 in funds and profit for life.

Because for a relatively measly profit that would completely ruin whatever reputation you've built up and prevent you from developing and marketing future products under that brand name?

Ok, so you're a bus driver carrying 30 people.
You drive on the highway and your steering wheel braks off.
What is the rational thing to do?
Slam the brakes as hard as you can! Isn't it obvious that you need to turn a situation where there is partial loss of control into one where there is immediate and total loss of control.

I did read it, but I feel it still to be wrong. The PCB design has not changed that is the easy part, they should in theory be able to take the ASCI and drop it on a single pcb..... So your telling me they are using a different PCB and a ASIC then the one they are going to release give me a break. The chips are built around the PCB if it be 1 chip or 10 chips, to not have them done by prototype would be a stupid. Why would you take a proto type chip and put it on a pcb design you do not intend on using? So whats to say the chip will work on the pcb you change to... kinda a gamble wouldn't you say?

Not sure about this. For a product like this I would imagine that it is more likely for the PCBs to be built around the ASICs. They did say that the same ASIC will be used in the Jalapeno, Single(s) and Mini Rig.

If you look at computer motherboards, everything is designed around the CPU socket and chipset - not the other way round.

I have elderly grandparents living in a poor country that is on the terrorist watchlist. I used to wire (from the US) about $8K a month to pay for their medical and hospice care bills. I make a faily decent salary working in an investment bank and I live well below my means, so sending them this money should not be a problem one would think. It turned out that each wire transfer I made tripped some kind of AML/anti-terrorist trigger and subsequently got delayed for weeks while I had to keep contacting the bank and explaining to them why I needed to send this money ... over and over and over again. We are talking about $8k/month here, not millions of dollars. I wonder how businesses can freely wire millions of dollars while an individual can't send a few thousand?

When I head of Bitcoin about a year ago I devised a scheme where I can send money using coins through my sister. She lives in an intermediate country where she can still easily cash out the coins through Mt.Gox, and then wire the money to my grandparents without the unreasonable restrictions placed by the US authorities. Problem solved!

So yeah, I use Bitcoin to bypass AML and anti-terror restrictions.

It is a long con. The con is on the Nth product generation. All products up to generation N-1 will be valid products that will be delivered to customers. On the Nth generation they will take your pre-order money and run.

The question is, what is N?  Grin

Will N happen during my lifetime?

Does N = 2?

also.

I you buy a BFL system do you have to mine with a specific pool or are you free to choose.

I've started to use the BTC guild pool. It seems simple enough and they have a great iphone app.

they pay out at a steady rate which i like.

If I can get myself a BFL SC in October, am I best staying with a pool or going alone?

Regards

Adam
Currently some BFL products do not work properly on p2pool. They can however be used on any other pool. It is more of a technical issue related to the way p2pool shares are earned and the way BFL solves and reports shares. As for future BFL products, it is not clear whether the SC will have p2pool support.
