Yeah cash by mail is tricky. Maybe you should just accept postal money orders instead? You could easily prove you didn't cash it if you get an empty envelope.  Also I am curious as to how you keep things straight. If you have two people ordering $200 worth how do you tell them apart? I've seen other bitcoin businesses add small amounts (e.g. $200.04). Just curious.

cb

Honestly, this hasn't been a problem yet.  Even on days when there are a few, for example, $800 deposits, since each person emails us again after they've made the deposit, it's relatively easy to figure it out.  But, you bring up a good point, and in the future we will probably need to implement a new policy of having people scan / take a photo of the deposit receipt and email it to us ... either that, or we'll start asking people to deposit some small amount of change, like you mentioned.

We're also going to go ahead and offer cash in the mail as an option again, but this time before anyone sends anything, we'll make very clear that we are not responsible for any loss in transit, or if the individual forgets to put anything in the envelope, or whatever other issues.  If people want to send via Registered Mail, that would be an option as well, but I've read that can take 3 weeks, so ... probably not a VIABLE option.

Cash in the mail is really only appealing to those without BoA or WF nearby, or those who have a lot of cash on hand, or those who prefer avoiding the bank altogether.

Hey jon you might want to change your signature until you can offer cash by mail again.

Proud to say that I just broke a new record on my site with over 800 clicks on my links. If you wanted on there now is primetime ppl
213  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 1 BTC for the most creative idea on how it will be used on: March 31, 2013, 03:47:04 PM
I would put the full amount into my site getfreebitcoin.com for my TwitterGames and newbie raffles. The whole point of the site is to help spread the enjoyment of bitcoin to those who can't buy any/don't know much about bitcoin in general. I usually hold a Tgame or raffle everyday with a 0.01BTC prize, sometimes twice a day. As you can imagine that gets pretty expensive. So far I have been able to pay about 50/50, that is 50% out of pocket, and 50% on the btc generated from newbies clicking the links on my site (which lead to more free giveaways). I hope one day to make it so that the site is self sufficient, and can generate its own prize money. For now I am content with the occasional donation by fellow advocates of spreading the word of BTC, and my own coinage, but a 1BTC donation to the sites newbie giveaway will surely allow me to up the prize money/get rid of some of the coinurl links (hate those things).

Well that is what I would do with it, if anyone wants to donate to the site, or you decide that the idea is worth while, the newbie raffle/giveaway fund address is in my signiture!

Thanks for holding something like this!

Thanks for spreading the love Smiley

Are you the one who just sent me BTC1? Because if so thank you very much! I was about to not be able to do many more TwitterGames because I was low on funding.

I run GetFreeBitCoin.com where I list sites that giveaway coins to newbies, and I also host a raffle and TwitterGames. Your site does not have to have a giveaway to be added as I have multiple sections on my site. From "earn" sites to "start-ups" pretty much anything that has to do with bitcoin, and isn't a scam, I am willing to put on my site.

I get around 300+ clicks total on my links per day, and that number is steadily increasing, on saturdays I sometimes get 600+ clicks.

If you would like to have your site added post it here in this forum, I will go over it to make sure its not terrible and PM you about adding it to my site. Mostly to cover what your site does so I can place it properly.

As soon as we iron out the details your site will be added. This usually happens within minutes depending on how long it takes to exchange messages.

P.S. If your site does not have a free bitcoin giveaway of some kind I might ask for a small donation to the TwitterGames/Raffle fund for a lifetime place on the site.

*Legitimate sites only please*
