What are the OKPay costs for doing this because I thought it was only 1%

Every element of the world of bitcoin is going to get used to generate some form of news before we get close to seeing mainstream adoption of it.

However, the other side of this is that articles like this may get quoted by anyone with an agenda for the next 10 years to prove how bad bitcoins are.

This is why PPCoin is such a good idea - it kills the argument dead.

You can't beat a good conspiracy theory can you?

2 Questions.

Do you believe that 2 = 3?

If you don't, then do you believe that 2 planes can knock down 3 separate buildings? (no planes can't bounce between buildings, and yes the buildings were very separate).

Both have a yes/no answer.

@Gweedo

Quote
So where in the world does it say those two guys are CIA agents? How do you even know they are law enforcement? They are probably police but police is always in uncover clothes to keep peace in big events.

Please at least TRY to click the links and read the information that's there .... sheesh

Belief has nothing to do with it.  I assume you are talking about building 7?

Having not spent years working in construction, I couldn't tell you what it takes to knock down a building, but I would assume that almost a billion tonnes of building free falling to Earth will have similar energy to a small Earthquake.  On that basis, I don't think its unreasonable for a building to suffer from total failure and collapse after going through those sort of stresses.

So, if we are talking about 2 planes causing 3 buildings to fall, in the same way that a single finger muscle can cause the death of someone on the other end of the barrel of a gun, the answer is yes.  2 does equal 3!

Areas to be covered.

Drugs (please understand NOT a free for all, but a controlled regulated market)
Taxes
Jobs
NHS/health
Privatization
Public Sector
Crime
Education
Economy (free economy)
Energy
Immigration
Foreign Policy (wars, etc)
EU

If you're not a UK citizen and would like to contribute, maybe for shits and giggles, then sure, drop me a pm. If you are a UK and want to contribute, but cba to be a party member, that's also perfectly fine, pm again.

Again I need to state that such an undertaking will only be possible when btc kicks of bigger. A large part of Politics (these days anyway) is about money unfortunately. A lot of 'up and coming' politicians fund themselves, relying on donations is a definite secondary thing. It costs £1,500 to put yourself in for an election, then there's advertisement costs, travel expenses, etc, etc. And success is heavily dependent on the advertisement, getting yourself seen.

Don't expect - "woot, we have 500+ seats, we'll rule the country!!"

What the aim would be (again upon the assumption that by 2014 (spring) btc would be of a value to make this possible) - Waking people up, showing them there's a different way, poking the damn corruption in the eye (with a sharp stick, with dog poo on the end)! Never know, if fairly successful maybe 2019 we'd win substantial seats Wink

But yes, if the money is behind us then the possibility of winning seats does exist. If you got all the people that have lost faith in the government, that don't vote, to vote, thats around 50-80% of the votes (depending upon the constituency/area)

So, yup, once a draft is finished it'll be uploaded somewhere for all to view.

There's a war going on, we gotta fight it from every angle, we can't just sit back and let the rest of the world fight it whilst we in the UK twiddle our fingers, especially since we're in the belly of the beast.

edit: The general idea (re: the issues noted above) is freedom and equality, if you have interpretations of that with regard to one of the topics I'd be happy to hear.

With waking people up you can change retarded laws and corruption with influence. With seats you can stop corruption and get your voice, that represents your area, heard.

Ok, serious head on.

Have you ever wondered why the current government and the last government spend so much time talking about Education and the NHS?

Its because these are the only two issues they have enough freedom within the EU framework to actually change in any practical way - hence the micro management.

Everything else you've mentioned needs the nod from the EU to alter, and you won't get any because it goes against the grain of our commitment to the EU through countless treaties.

Its nice to dream, but UK politics is nicely sown up to prevent anyone getting close enough to the boat to rock it! Wink

Oh, and my experience of politics goes as far as managing political events in Westminster, and spending time in the private apartments within the palace.  I have a better idea than most of how the system actually works! Wink
205  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: DVC organized pump time on: April 22, 2013, 07:21:26 PM
What a seriously stupid idea!

I know not to go near DVC for a while now because the chances are I am going to end up paying over the odds for a coin if I don't sell quickly enough - and nobody is going to be stupid enough to buy the coin from me if they know when the dump is going to happen!

The whole point of a pump and dump is that you don't tell anyone!

206  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Why are people so eager to pay tax? on: April 22, 2013, 06:58:12 PM
All you heroes who want to avoid taxes are not making any friends with those of us who must make up for your greed. Do you think all the services you use are free?

You should direct your complaints to these 16 entities instead of grabbing at your fellow crabs trying to crawl out of the boiling water:

http://www.alternet.org/corporate-accountability-and-workplace/16-giant-corporations-have-basically-stopped-paying-taxes
That puts a bee in my bonnet also.  Angry Going after businesses who work around the tax code should be a high priority.  And don't get me wrong, I do not like how my tax dollars are used these days. We should be more vocal in expressing our displeasure. But when your solution is to not pay, you only hurt other taxpayers and not the government.
They will simply raise everyones taxes.

I really don't understand this logic.

The tax laws are created by government.
Companies use specialists to ensure they only pay the correct amount of tax for their circumstances.
Loud socialists then protest that these companies are not paying as much as these protesters would like.
Protesters then complain that tax will be raised for everyone else because these companies are acting lawfully!

Rant starts:
Tax is simply a protection racket that has been normalised through custom and education. I pay tax for services I don't use - I pay extra tax on goods I use a lot but don't get any benefits for this extra tax.
Tax to me just seems like a way to fund people who don't or can't fund themselves.  I don't seem to be getting good value for money out of it!
207  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Taxation: You Can Always Leave. on: April 22, 2013, 03:52:44 PM
I would assume that the IRS are like the UK customs where you never, ever want to get into battle with them because you will lose.   The problem stems from the list of creditors where they are always on the top.

The UK customs can do things that the police can only dream of, like walking into any property, seizing any form of vehicle and holding any person accused of any tax related crime in the past 20 years - all without evidence, just some form of suspicion!

If you do anything to stop them, you are committing an offence!

208  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Political Party/Politics (UK) on: April 22, 2013, 03:26:04 PM
If only it was that easy!

I joined a new UK political party a few years ago called the Libertarian Party UK.

It cost me a £10, I got a nice key ring and the fella who became leader ended up making a dick of himself on TV!

Niche politics is a waste of time in today's day and age - far better to bypass it completely and create a lobby group for what you want.

Spend a few years lobbying the EU for some nice closed shop practices and retire in relative wealth!  Yes, modern politics is easy! Wink
209  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Why are people so eager to pay tax? on: April 22, 2013, 02:35:18 PM
Aye true, but the bastichs are the ones that got the ball rolling .. grrrr

The Rothschilds transformed the interest system already in place. They just moved it to their family's advantage by buying governments all over Europe and the US. Wink

An excellent work on the subversion of the American government by Money and Oil (Rothschilds and Rockefellers) is "Wealth Against Commonwealth" by Henry Demarest Lloyd, late 19th century.

Apparently interest did not exist before Rothschilds, as it was against the Christian religion, the Vatican stamped on it anytime someone mentioned interest.

Not sure how this reflects in the UK/Bank of England though, seeing as they threw out the Vatican power a few century's before that.

edit: tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if the Bank of England introduced a form of interest pre-Rothschilds

Interest was called Usuary and was against the rules of both Christian and Muslim teachings but there were laws preventing the lending of money for interest going back to Greece and old China!

The modern day acceptance of interest is blamed on Henry Viii who legalized it in 1545.

That was a good 30 years before the birth of the first Rothschild!

You can't beat a good conspiracy theory can you?

No need for any kind of real proof, but a few well defined questions leading to other questions with answers that only match the agenda of the person asking the questions!

I find it funny how so many Americans worry about becoming a police state when they are so far away from what is happening in the EU - which is much closer to being a police state in a USSR style! Wink

What the original OP witnessed was the US style of man hunt which they do very well - they just throw everything at the problem and hope some of it sticks.  Its a policy the US have always used, from Vietnam to the Blues Brothers!
While its perfectly possible to argue that the assumed bombers were nothing of the sort, there are a few lose ends which don't really hold water for that to be true.

Firstly, one of the brothers is still alive!  How come? Isn't that a bit sloppy if they didn't want any chance of them not being any lose ends?  What if he speaks?  I know he's been shot in the throat and unlikely to to talk again, but that isn't the point! Wink

Secondly, there was no claims from anyone for the bomb going off.  Any decent terrorist is wanting to get their publicity, its why their bombs go off in the first place. But in Boston, nobody knew why they were being targeted - and they still don't  - looks like someone isn't following the terrorist 101 handbook!

Finally, you find that conspiratorial trolls always study official photos with a fine tooth comb, but never do the same for images which support their stories.  Wonder why?

i cant help but think that maybe if you guys had payed a little more attention and asked questions like these yourself when your country was passing this very same threshold it may have helped to prevent things from getting as bad as they are now

Have you ever seen 'Lonely are the Brave' A Kirk Douglas movie from 1962?

In his eyes, you lost your freedoms a long time ago! Wink

We can all point to a freer time in the past, and how awful the future could be.

The point is, my life is to short to moan about it too much, just find a way around it s it doesn't bug you too much as you carry on earning a living!

Dang.  Which parts did I goof up on?  Tongue

There is no solution!

Governments exist because without them there is a void.

The biggest gang wins!  The customer choice aspect doesn't work when force is used and the longer you have peace, the more difficult it is to remove the class in power, because they spend their time ensuring that their infrastructure can't be undone.

Eventually, the system breaks, and its only through war or some other kind of social upheaval that the balance can be brought back in line.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss! Wink

213  Economy / Speculation / Re: $500 bitcoin by mid-July on: April 22, 2013, 09:03:48 AM
If you want bitcoins to be worth $500 soon, I would suggest you find a big celebrity, and get them to buy a few, and tell their friends about why its such a good idea!

If you got a nice guy like Tom Hanks tell TMZ that he just went and spent $10 million on bitcoins - that would make a huge difference!

Get someone like Daniel Radcliffe using bitcoins and the world is your oyster!

The trick is that to get public acceptance of bitcoins you need to work on famous authority not facts and figures!

Marketing 101!

Dare I say Justin Bieber.

Bieber won't endorse Bitcoins, his handlers wouldn't allow it.

I'm not sure if Bieber would be a good choice, although when he does say bad stuff, it hits the news! Smiley

214  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Taxes (UK) on: April 21, 2013, 11:10:17 PM
This isn't quite right.

If you think you are going to be making any money regularly, you need to talk to a local tax office as soon as possible.

What you spend and sell is just turnover, its not a profit.  Your profit is the difference.  This is what you are taxed on.  If you spend £10000 on bitcoins, and sell then for £15000, then you would pay taxes on £5000, at your income tax rate.  If you were not gaining an income from anything else, not even benefits, then £5000 would be below any taxable income, and you would pay no tax.

But you still need to tell the tax man that you earnt it in the first place.

The only time the turnover becomes an issue is when it hits the VAT threshold which is around £100K ( not checked for a few years) then you MUST register with the customs for VAT as soon as you think it may happen.

Never, ever try and fool the customs.  They have more power than anyone, and WILL make your life hell if they think you are taking the mickey.

I used to be a government funded business advisor up until 2011.
215  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: UK tax in relation to bitcoin on: April 21, 2013, 11:00:11 PM
The discussion clearly shows the large grey space Bitcoin exists in, within the context of HMRC currently, what ever way you shake it.

Consider their stance for a minute. All of a sudden, they are getting inquires about this new-fangled crypto bit thingamajig somefingorother. They will make initial judgements based on their existing framework, and tables, flow diagrams etc. Without doubt, an invitation to produce whatever result you wish, depending on who you speak to. So what if you tried to escalate your inquiry to the decision makers? Are they going to commit to a defined process concerning the treatment of bitcoin for income/tax/CGT etc? And are they going to do that soon? Cant see it yet, personally.

So is not up to businesses that have bitcoin at the core of their trade, to decide how they declare bitcoin on their EOY accounts. Moreover, wouldnt it be logical for HMRC to sit back, wait to see how businesses declare bitcoin, monitor and number crunch its effect and consequence etc etc, and over time, take a defined stance?

Point being, its too soon to specifically define its tax route. How many returns in the last tax year shows a meaningful declaration of £BTC? Hardly any i would have thought?? So for now, its up to us/business to take their choice of the current recognized route i.e. if its 'money', its VAT exempt, but more costs associated with FSA issues, if its a commodity, it attracts VAT, and how income tax, can or cant be off-set, etc etc.
Basically, take your choice. Not ideal i know, but at least you are declaring something, and if and when HMRC want to argue your returns, they are then, setting the precedent.

Totally agree.

Plus I would add that the advice that you get from any agency isn't foolproof.  If they say one thing, it doesn't mean someone else from the same agency won't say something completely different!
Don't think you can use your quote as the 'Word of God' because until there is a law or at least a legal presidence, its all opinion!

I learnt the hard way with a 6 month bounce around the houses when I found an issue relating to a vehicle construction law that no government agency would define but others were happy to enforce without definition!
216  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Why are people so eager to pay tax? on: April 21, 2013, 10:49:36 PM
The government's like the mafia; they offer protection, for a price.  If you don't cough up the dough, they hurt you.  The government can do this because it has a monopoly on security: governments generally own A.) the military, B.) the militias, and C.) the police.  If you don't want to support the military, or the militias, or the police, then it's too bad; you're forced to pay for them to exist, and you have little to no control over how these services are run.  Now, because the government owns the soldiers, the mercenaries and the peacekeepers, they can essentially do whatever they want to their citizens.  Now, they might pretend they're benevolent and they're there for your well-being, but lets not forget, they own the means of force, and they use it, often.

In the case of America, the citizens don't get to decide who goes to jail, an appointed official does.  The citizens don't decide which laws get passed, their elected officials do.  The citizens don't decide where their taxes go.  The citizens don't decide whether or not they pay them.  We have this funny little system where we're told we can change this or that, but it's a lie; our vote only decides who we're putting in charge for making our every decision.

So, the answer to the question is, people pay tax because they have to.  They can either pretend to like it, or express their discontent, but the fact is, you will be taxed, and resistance is futile.

This is normally where most people stop, go to their bedrooms, shut the door and grumble to themselves how it's not fair "but life is unfair."  Well, if you're that person, too bad, because here's the solution:

A free market on security.  The government exists by force.  You don't decide which government you follow, unless you get out of the country.  It shouldn't be this way.  Coca Cola doesn't put a gun to our head and tell us that if we drink Pepsi, we'll be thrown in jail.  Why doesn't the Coca-Cola company do this?  Because it's illegal.  Which is hypocritical; the entity which invented law, is breaking that same law, for the government is putting guns to our heads (through the soldiers, the militias, and the peacekeepers) and telling us we have to follow every decision they make, every law they pass and war they wage, or we'll be punished.  If the Coca-Cola company can't do this, nor should a single government.  The government is not God.  The government is there to serve us, but like any monopoly, the government will charge whatever it wants for their service and provide whatever kind of service it feels.  It has been providing shit service for decades.

Thus, the solution is a competition of government; government A, B, C, and D need to show us they provide the better service on security and infrastructure.  Since Government A (our government) has proven, over, and over, and over, that they no longer care for our needs (and why should they, with a monopoly, care?), I believe anyone living in a capitalistic society can agree that competition is the very soul of a quality service.

I knew someone would eventually post something close to the truth! Smiley

219  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why bitcoin can't survive as it is on: April 20, 2013, 07:27:23 PM
As most people in this forum I have great hopes for cryptocurrencies. However I just cannot see how bitcoin can achieve mainstream adaptation, because:

Broad adaptation would require >50 million users and market cap>20 billion usd
It must happen over a period of 2-3 years
But practically all bitcoins for that period are already produced and posessed
Some magic kind of distribution must take place - that wont happen!

Bitcoins will remain a sandbox for speculators and kids unless something is done.

One solution is proposed here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=181488.0

I always find the way people come up with their idea of the future very interesting, but remarkable limited.

The figures above are very limited because they don't mean anything - even the time scale is a nonsense.

Why not start again, with some kind of big picture guidance of how technology moves into the mainstream?

The most interesting indicator I can highlight is the theory to commodity timescale. Most products that become life changing (these are things like cars, microwave ovens, mobile phones, computers etc) take around 30 years.

Software is quicker to make it, but you are still looking at 10 years for a radical software concept to go from version 0.1 to 'everyone' using it!

So, next issue - people numbers.

Who is going to use bitcoin?  Only Americans? Only the US and the EU? Maybe the whole of the world who currently have mobile phones?
50 million users is what exactly? people who own a bitcoin or a bit of a bitcoin? We are probably close to at least 2-3 million people who are in that box already.  Look at the forum growth for an indicator of where we are today - its going to take far longer than 3 years!

I was one of the first 1% of internet users and it was lonely, but slowly, we grew to what we have today! - For bitcoin to make a dent in the real world, we just need people to not give up using it.  This isn't exclusively using bitcoin - its just the number of people with the means to use a bitcoin to make a sale.

Finally, the killer point that needs to be understood - bitcoin is just an experiment in crypto currencies.  Its very unlikely that bitcoin will ever become the big alternative digital currency by itself!  It will however help people understand the concept so that they will feel more comfortable when they use Litecoins, PPCoins and whatever Altcoin we find that can do whatever flaw kills bitcoin.

This is a very long game, and I would be looking at 2020 before you will be surprised when you DON'T see bitcoin or other altcoin in the same list as Paypal on every website.

As for you big worry about no trading going on, it takes time to convince people the price isn't going to go up any further and its safe to start spending.  That will be the magic that makes it start happening! Smiley

220  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Press center on the website - looking for volunteers on: April 20, 2013, 04:37:44 PM
I fully agree with this development - its exceptionally important to guide the press to a positive story on bitcoins and this is the best way to do it.

However, I am in the UK and our press sux (with some exceptions!) and tend to take the text from the US and fit their left wing slant to everything they write because they never actually talk to anyone from the US, unless they are known in the UK.

Is there a plan for English language bitcoin representation for Europe?

We need some loose group of press friendly talking heads that can appear at a few moments notice and can write PR with a European slant to it.

Before anyone asks, I can do the writing, but I can't do the talking head bit!

Any feedback?
