202  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to buy new bitcoin with currency 4/11/13 (can you do it without gox?) on: April 12, 2013, 03:45:24 AM
You can try CampBX. They accept USPS money orders. You could overnight or 2nd day one down to them in Atlanta.

But I feel you. It's taken me a month to get stuff set up. I just spammed a bunch of different services (dwolla, different exchanges, verifications, blah, blah...).
It is all slow and expensive. The fiat to BTC link is ridiculous.
Right now I'm doing business on bitfinex. They are in Hong Kong and I'm just doing international wires. The cost sucks (like $30 a pop).
At least the wires are getting there in a day and a half.

once its BTC, tho, its all golden. fast and easy.

shouldn't we be writing in Latin, the traditional language of the elite?
205  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: WHat trading platform mtgox blockchain bitfloor or others on: April 10, 2013, 03:07:19 AM
Bitfinex.
Low to no fees. Easy margin trading, long or short.

and I currently own 1/27000th of that hashing -- and profit making -- power! (before fees of course)
208  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: WTS: Verified Mt.Gox account on: April 09, 2013, 01:14:50 PM
Are Verified accounts really that big of a deal? Now if it was 'Trusted' maybe that would be something.
But even that is just about going to a notary.

But if you can get 150 for it that is awesome.
maybe I'll try to sell mine!

209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is a “bubble” only if you think the rise of information is a “bubble” on: April 09, 2013, 01:05:54 PM

The link between information and money is pretty strong.

Isn't most of it going to BTCGuild?

I for one welcome our new hashing overlords.

212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The comparative advantages of bitcoin are clear every day on: April 09, 2013, 12:48:23 PM
When engaging with the the Bitcoin economy, most people have to also deal with the fiat banking system -- getting fiat into an exchange, getting fiat out, etc. Users see these two banking systems side by side everyday.

That experience drives home the benefits of bitcoin. How much time is wasted waiting for International Wires to clear, for ACH deposits to clear, for funds to be released? It is maddening!

Compare that to the experience of moving, say, from LTC to BTC on BTC-E, then transfering to Mt. Gox then on to another exchange. It's effortless. No paperwork, no disclosures, no forms. And you wait maybe an hour per hop, often less.

Once you go to bitcoin banking you never want to go back. Fiat banks seem like slo-motion (and expensive!) dinosaurs.

This doesn't seem like that big of a deal. It's not like the instawallet / easywallet google hole.
216  Economy / Goods / Re: Check out my 2010 Silver American Eagle Auctions on Ebay, accepting btc on: April 05, 2013, 03:47:18 AM
nice looking auction.
how are you planning on handling requests to pay in bitcoin?
I'd love to know how it works out.
217  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Need your help, new Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon on: April 05, 2013, 03:15:13 AM
Just some quick fan mail.

As a total newbie to mining, the PI, minePeon and a BFL FPGA have worked effortlessly.
I'm almost one month past my lunch hour install. I've had exactly ZERO down time or problems.
Rock solid, 24/7 hashing.
Great project!
218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best Cold Storage Methods For LTC and BTC on: April 05, 2013, 01:19:16 AM
I have a related noob question.

If you have the public and private key printed out, maybe just as QR codes, (like what you can make at http://www.bitaddress.org) and you want to spend them, is there any online wallet or exchange that lets you just input those two keys and access the coins, or do you have to do it by importing keys though a wallet client application on your computer, then transfer it to on online exchange?
219  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL SCREW UP AGAIN on: April 05, 2013, 12:11:52 AM
Two things, one good one not so good.

The price change means the early adopters have come out ahead.
So that's good (assuming they eventually ship)

The bad thing is the listed hash rates. These are lower than the previously listed speeds. That means the power/speed problems they have been having are serious. They are planning to scale back the speeds to compensate for the power issue.

They have previously said that you will get the speed you paid for. I wonder if that means people will get jalapeños to make up for the under hashing of the original SC units?
