201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: SSDH (Solid State Hybrid) on: October 13, 2017, 09:08:47 AM
Thanks. Actually I have an HDD and I am really not in mood to spend money on SSD unless its a huge difference. Can you please let me know on two things:

1) Power consumption difference in HDD and SSD

2) Effect of heat generated by HDD on overall mining process and how could it negatively affect the whole thing.

Rizwan

Hi,

Anybody using SSDH (Solid State Hybrid)? Would be grateful if I get quick pros and cons.

Looking forward.

203  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can you please help me in deciding on powered GPU riser. on: October 13, 2017, 07:41:43 AM
There is no differences between vendor 1 and 2 : my advice is for those with the higher revision PCB number.
Vendor 1 and vendor 2 : the riser has a 6 pins PCIe connector : this is the original one for all the GPUs, even the most powerfull, it is the best solution if you connect it directly to your PSU, without adaptors.

Hi CarlOrff,

Thank you for the response.

Please let me know how to know that higher revision PCB number.

Also please let me know how to connect it (what does it means?) directly to PSU without adapters?

Can you please share some diagram/layout. I never did this sort of connection before.

Thanks again.

Rizwan
204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Can you please help me in deciding on powered GPU riser. on: October 13, 2017, 06:48:40 AM
Hi,

I have ASROCK H81 PRO BTC 2.0 mobo and Corsair HX1200i PSU. I plan to get 6x GTX 1060 6GB GPUs.

I want to get the powered risers. There are two vendors offering their products. Please let me know what riser would be OK. There is change in connectors (please see red arrows) and I really have no idea about the risers and connectors.

The image of both products:

Would be grateful if you let me know which vendor's - vendor 1 or 2 - product would be suitable.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Rizwan

Someone is selling these 6 pins ones for around 74 US$ (set of 6). Please see images below:

How that seems to you?

Youtube can be your best friend and Google can help a lot too Wink

Thanks. Already followed that video. I just need specifically on GPU/rise/motherboard connection.

There are dozens and dozens of threads here, articles on other web pages, and even youtube videos that can show you how to put a rig together.  I highly suggest you read more, and watch more then it will become clear.  You will not get it perfect your first time around.  You will need to experiment, follow other's suggestions, and build the rig in a way that works for you and your gear.

You definitely want powered risers, though.  Preferably the ones with 6 pin PCIe power connectors.

Hi thanks. I am bit cautious that if I do something wrong with connections, the motherboard, GPUs could get burnt or damaged. I have followed videos and I understand there are different ways to power the GPUs. This variation is something that I am not sure of.

209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Capacity planning on: October 05, 2017, 09:28:29 AM
PoS will be applied much earlier than 6GB DAG issue. Vram > 4GB has nothing to worry.

Sev18 stated that Vram > 4GB has nothing to worry. So are you sure 3 GB would be OK for next 4-5 years?
210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Capacity planning on: October 05, 2017, 07:08:15 AM
Hi,

Question: Keeping aside the Ethereum (DAG and upcoming PoS), considering 4-5 years ahead plan, would 8 GB GPU have a significant edge over the 6 GB or 6 GB would be sufficient to work for next 4-5 years for different cryptocurrencies?

Riz

Hi,

Any experience, advice, etc. on Awesome Miner http://www.awesomeminer.com/default.aspx.

Thanks and regards,

Rizwan
I'm not sure you should look for it unless you have ASIC farm, but for ASICs this software is great, worth of any cent, tons of options and problem solving rules. Also some pretty good options for GPU and honestly never used it for my rigs except of anrminers.

Is Awesome Miner inefficient in GPU case?
212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is SSD must? on: September 25, 2017, 11:52:56 AM
Thank you, all.

I want to reuse parts from the desktop that I already have and sitting idle on my table. So far I have planned to reuse 4GB DDR3 and hard disk.

One thing that could be of benefit is to advise on some mirroring/replica/backup so that the migration to SSD would be like a flash. Any views?

Rizwan

Hi,

I have a 500 GB non-SSD hard disk. Is SSD a necessity for mining? What could be the cons if I use non-SSD hard disk?

Thanking you in anticipation.

Looking forward.

Great. Would be looking forward for your feedback Smiley

Hi,

Would be thankul if you advise if Intel Pentium Processor G3250T would be compatible with ASRock H81 Pro BTC R2.0.

Its not there in this list:

But yes in this link:

Hi thanks  Smiley

Isn't there a exchange from where I can get US$s against cryptocurrency (different types like ETH, ZEC, Dash etc.)?

Is Poloniex meant for thispurpose?

220  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Quick question reg PSU on: September 19, 2017, 06:54:24 AM
6x 580s, even after messing with voltage and clock settings, would push a 1000W PSU too far, let alone for 24/7 operation.

6x 1060s would probably be fine, as far as the rating is concerned.

Don't forget to keep an eye on your required connectors. Some 1060s use 8-pin PCIe connectors, others use 6-pin.

Thanks.

How about this one?

Rizwan

This might be better, it has Higher capacity than 1kw, the higher capacity the better and it is also already a Platinum efficiency PSU,
If you will mine coins other than ETH go for 1060, as 580 aims only for ETH.

Hi,

Would HX1200i be a better option than HX1200? One thing I didn't get from a review on one website. It says:

The HXi is an analog power supply but it features a built in analog to digital bridge which can pass over information to the Corsair Link Software via a USB connection.

Would analog be any issue?

Thanking you all in anticipation.

Regards,

Rizwan
