No.
Quite a compelling argument you've got going there.
202  Economy / Securities / Re: Looking for investment on: September 10, 2013, 08:46:07 PM
This is a gambling related business...
This is a gambling related investment.
?? I am not sure why rephrase what I've already said.
Because "investing" in your "gambling related business" is itself more of a gamble than depositing any coins into something with "dice" in its name.
203  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread on: September 10, 2013, 08:30:14 PM
Out of pure interest - and it's not my intention to insinuate anything by asking this - but why do you spend hours on this every day?
For the betterment of the company of course. Anything we can do to help can conceivably raise the share price.
Share price helps "the company" in EXACTLY one way: they can demand a higher price when they dilute everyone's shares by offering another round of financing. There is NO other reason for a dividend-paying bitcoin company to care one bit about the market price. It's not like there is risk for hostile takeovers, because "shareholders" don't really have any real power in these things as it is - and it won't affect any future 3rd party buyout talks, because that always involves book value and future cash flow multiples.

So, if you are concerned about the share price for the sake of the company, stop it. It shouldn't matter to them at all - if it does matter to them, then you need to realize they are gunning for another round of funding. If, on the other hand, you're concerned about the share price for your own sake, just say so - there's no shame in that.
204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: September 10, 2013, 04:40:07 PM
Well I see the basic layout, but that's it.
It can take 24 hours to change DNS, it's not likely, but it can happen.
AT&T is rather notorious for dual-caching DNS in multiple layers, which can result in doubling (or worse) the propagation times that most of the rest of the internet experiences when a DNS change happens. If the old TTL setting was long, then AT&T is going to take quite a while to get it right. I see that the new TTL is nice and short, so in the future this should be much less of an issue. (Unless they override short TTLs, which is stupid, but I wouldn't put it past them.)

Years ago, I ran across a DNS server with a 2 week TTL setting for a mail host. I would have fired the guy who did that, personally.
205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: September 10, 2013, 03:12:28 PM
Looks up to me Smiley

yeah it's odd.
working fine from my laptop (through a vpn using a datacenters network) but from AT&T 3G same errors from my last post still exist
That's obviously an issue with DNS propagation. Be patient.

I think it's hilarious people are selling off today. Is this what you were holding for?  To sell the day before their deadline? What sort of thinking goes into a strategy like that?

I mean, thanks for hitting my bids, but seriously, what are you thinking?
The obvious answer is that some people are not convinced they will hit their deadline. It's not a large number; volume is very low.
207  Economy / Securities / Re: [IPVO] [Multiple Exchanges] Neo & Bee - The Bitcoin Bank (Cyprus) - LMB Holdings on: September 09, 2013, 03:19:06 PM
the solution to the exchange rate issue is volume - unless a lot more people start exchanging between BTC and [name your fiat], the exchange rate will fluctuate wildly with minimal effort from large orders. (It doesn't matter which fiat, really, since they all have existing relationships presently through Forex. Higher trade volume with BTC<->EUR is just as good as BTC<->USD when trying to peg a more stable bitcoin value.) Volume creates liquidity, which creates a much more stable valuation. Yeah, these guys might be subject to more risk now than they would if they started this up later, but someone's got to be first... and with risk comes a greater potential for reward. Someone has to have the balls to try it first, and good for them to try and tackle this with regulatory oversight.

On a not entirely different note, what would the effect be if they decided to hold everything in Euros (meaning convert almost all BTC to Euro for the purpose of holding deposits, keeping only enough BTC on hand to cover an average day's worth of BTC transactions) and converting back to BTC only when they sell the BTC?
208  Economy / Securities / Re: [LABCOIN] IPO [BTCT.CO] - Details/FAQ and Discussion (ASIC dev/sales/mining) on: September 09, 2013, 01:52:37 AM
If we were to start hashing within the next 24-48 hours why has there been no informational update from Labcoin? We should have chip information, board information and other details in regards to the hardware that is suppose to go online sometime tomorrow. Pictures of the hardware fully assembled. Maybe even screenshots of them doing test hashing before they are fully up and operational. There is too little information coming out from management.
Incomplete news would result in only more speculation. News will come when it's ready. If you're bullish on this, I recommend keeping some dry powder on the sidelines - the natives seem restless.
209  Economy / Securities / Re: [LABCOIN] IPO [BTCT.CO] - Details/FAQ and Discussion (ASIC dev/sales/mining) on: September 09, 2013, 01:47:55 AM
bi refers to 2, not twice
more or less, yep.

Bicentennial = 200 years (two centennials, or two one-hundred years)
Semicentennial = 50-year anniversary (Oklahoma celebrated this for their statehood in 1957)
Biannual = 2 years, like some obscure races (human powered submarine, for one)
Semiannual = every 6 months (see your local discount furniture store sales for examples)
Bimonthly = every 2 months (like your girlfriend's period in Jr. high school)
Semimonthly = every half a month (many employers use this to ensure exactly 24 pay periods)
Biweekly = every 2 weeks (many other employers pay on this schedule for 26 pay periods per year)
Semiweekly = twice per week (some Ye Olde Tyme newspapers did this a lot, as news wasn't all that easy to come by for a daily paper back then)

I can't believe I'm contributing to this. Hopefully it dies here.

edit: (oopsie on cut and paste when moving lines around)

...the troll's what?
I initially read that as "... the troll's twat?" which I think I like better. LOL
I was just politely poking at the apostrophe Wink I knew what you meant, and didn't want to come across as an asshole, but when I posted that, I was pretty much up to my hat in reading misplaced apostrophes and predictions of people "loosing" their money that I was compelled by my frustrations to vent a little before popping a cork. I love the description of he-who-pretends-to-be-a-she-and-who-must-not-be-named-because-then-I-might-accidentally-be-tricked-into-reading-his-I-mean-her-self-fellating-I-mean-cunnilinguing-drivel-in-a-quoted-context. Made me smile.

I think the fact he went silent after a difficult question speaks volumes
No, it doesn't. It means he hadn't replied. That's all it means. Nothing more. You can infer all the reasons possible for the lack of response that you want, but it doesn't make your inference the truth.

New rule: no one can quote Stuart. Ever.

Deal.

Anybody seen Primer?
I tried to graph out the timeline on that movie but got bored and quit about halfway through. It was interesting, but predictable.

Did you or did you not just say that price might go down on good news? And did or did I not warn people of that yesterday and get laughed off the thread for it?

What's changed in the past 24 hrs?

Come on Ytterbuim where are you? Why can't you further explain your assessment of the situation. You basically said it's looking dire, you said there is not enough capital in the crypto-currency mining market, not enough buyers to push this over 0.004 - even on good news. Can you explain that a bit more for the worried holders?

Off selling some LC are we? That would be logical if you believe your own assessment of this stock in this market.
Your expectation of instant replies mirrors the unrealistic expectations of a lot of bitcoin investors looking for weekly updates from their IPO-of-the-month.

I don't know the guy, but maybe he's a football fan? Maybe he has kids and he took them to Six Flags or something? Maybe he has better things to do than hit F5 all day here? There are times when I don't come here for a week at a time because I have no interest in finding new news. A lack of response does not indicate a refusal to respond.

Just make your point and wait. If you don't get a reply, consider your point either 1.) ceded because your argument was insurmountable, or 2.) inadequately made and therefore ignored as not worth replying to. But don't just keep demanding answers, it rings of shallowness and immaturity.

I own enough to express my disappointment at how things have progressed, zumzero.
EDIT- I hope the Fujitsu foundry know what they are doing when they knock out our chips - but has any one ever heard of these people? another disappointing aspect of this so called progress. Fujit-WHO more like.

You're asking if anyone has anyone heard of Fujitsu?  Seriously?

I mean, I didn't know they did contract IC fabrication but it's not exactly surprising.
216  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: September 07, 2013, 11:17:25 PM
I've made quantitative value arguments that 2 BTC is a fair price only if AM is successful at retaining a significant chunk of the hashrate for many years. 10 BTC is highly unlikely.
Sure, we don't know. I like my odds, though.
Now I'm not going to present my ideas as fact, but I wonder if you have a brain injury.
To be fair, the "we don't know" part was referencing the "only if AM is successful..." part, not the value.

217  Economy / Securities / Re: Looking for investment on: September 07, 2013, 03:25:42 PM
There is no practical difference between sending an anonymous person on the internet "confidential" materials and posting it online for all to see. Trust of non disclosure is a prerequisite for confidential transactions, and unless you know the person you're dealing with, you have no expectation of non disclosure. Then again, if you already knew the person you're going to end up dealing with, you wouldn't have to post publicly asking for everyone to chip in - so either you have no personal friends with sufficient funds to lend to you whom you can trust (or who trust you), or you are trusting strangers to keep your secret from other strangers without compensation. As it was already stated, it only takes one person asking you for more details before it's "public" when they decide to just repost it here.

Might as well get it all out in the open now.

[stuff]
So... you're against empirical A/B testing, you just wanna go with your gut? Cool, whatever. My suggestion was simple and motivated by a desire to help out. Your monologue was detractive and only tangentially related, although I'm sure your intent was not entirely self aggrandizing. But thanks for the insight, I'm sure it will be useful after empirical tests. Or, hell, come up with slogany things that take more than two seconds to come up with (like my off-the-cuff suggestion of "99% player odds", which you took the time to base an argument on, but I already suggested was only a shot in the dark), and test those, too - after all, it's evidence of success versus known alternatives that matters.

That is, if anyone wants to actually test results. Which is all I suggested in the first place.

Your effort in getting the site operational is not worth 40,000BTC.

I'll pass.

It is strange. It would be helpful to have more information from them on why they decided to forgo the heat pad. Maybe they think the plastic will be able to dissipate the heat.
Remember, this was the sample chip run. Perhaps they're working with the "worst case" scenario to test the limits of the chip without proper cooling? (I dunno, devil's advocate, etc.)

But this whole discussion is why I keep coming back here, despite all the other noise.  Thanks, guys. Smiley
