2001  Other / Meta / Re: Are these members merit sources or what they're doing is OK? on: March 27, 2018, 03:42:03 AM

Not just you or just sources, I'm talking to everybody, we all have been given power and we all are favoring our friends. thousands of people are lined up to get a chance at receiving merits, we are picking our friends, alt accounts. when you are giving merits to random members, they'd get tagged for attempting to farm merits, when our friends or partners are doing the same, we wouldn't tag them, we would even defend them.

OP,Please provide the proof that all the people/threads mentioned in your first post are favoring their friends and alts.

Do you think that Moderators are not able to spot these threads till now when they are active for more than couple of weeks?
Best option is to use "Report to Moderator" if you think it is abuse and you will get your answer automatically. (If thread trashed by Moderators, then you are right otherwise it is permissible )

Round 3: Notes & Critique

r1s2g3: While most of your content is original, and several of your posts took a good amount of time and thought to produce, I think you can do much better. No offense, but the way in which you choose topics to answer is carefully thought out, but overall, your posts lack major contribution. Maybe it's because of your limited English, as it's apparent that English is not your first language, but there are so many posts that I wish you would have detailed more than just making blanket statements and posting your reference/source links. While none of your posts are bad, they could be embellished a bit more in order for you to score higher according to my [mysterious] criteria. Keep it up!

Thanks Joe for an honest opinion.  My basic motive to join this contest is to get the feedback only. I never thought of winning any position amidst nullius, Toughit (though he did not posted), Blue  Tyrant and flipflop.

Looks like you got little surprised by bitmover, but I am following him from the start of the round 3 and knew at once , that one more good contestant is in the competition.

@bitmover
I read your some of your post by using Google Translate and I found one scammer copy-pasting you also.

Congratulations to all the winners and @all : Cheers and Keep the spirits up.

2004  Other / Meta / Re: Let Decay Default Merits on: March 25, 2018, 11:58:29 PM
I think we should start decaying Default Merits in constant rate, let say decay of 4 Default Merits every week.

In short, taking away 4 Merit per week is too much.

If taking away 4 Default/free Merit per week from an experienced user is too much than how we able to justify for newbie to gain approx. 7 merits per week to get upto rank of Sr. Member

Not a bad idea OP. This will really help purge the shitposters, how would you deal with member ranks? Would a legendary move down if he didn't maintain the required merits?

This would be a decent way of purging the shitposters from every level

I think so it will motivate everybody to write sensibly. Might be  we should increase Merit requirement to 50-60 for member and 25 for Jr.Member . Legendary will also lose status then if  "Default+ Earned" Merits < 1000.

I'd find it insulting if my rank was dropped, and I would seriously consider restricting my board presence to lurker/reader.
You are constructive poster so I do not think it will affect you. But that is the whole point of this system, fear of rank drop will never give you liberty to gain activity via shit posting.

2005  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge (Round 3) - 1st: $50 + 8Merits | 2nd: $10 + 6M on: March 25, 2018, 06:09:20 PM
To apply for Round 4, please fill out this Google Form and submit your application.

Can you please re check this google form. I filled the form once but I am finding link of my profile  from excel row number 5 to 10. Also I am not finding the application of other people who claimed to fill  the form before me.
2006  Other / Meta / Re: Let Decay Default Merits on: March 25, 2018, 06:20:33 AM
You are missing the point that people in this forum have a life and not all people can be on the forum at all time, what if they have to be offline for a long time?

Come on just take it that the old member invested their time sooner on this forum while you were not, and that is your fault, it is just the same as you cant blame people who got into bitcoin sooner than you.

May be you are right, but Account farming ,shit posting and plagiarism does not look  "investment of time" to me.
Why someone who is not using this forum actively will be bothered about the rank?
2007  Other / Meta / Re: Let Decay Default Merits on: March 25, 2018, 05:57:45 AM
That wouldn't be fair with people who are participating in this forum for years, but now they are not posting too much. It wouldn't be fair if they lose their rank.

I agree there are many spammers with Hero/legendary accounts, but this kind of rule could harm legit old users.

Merit system not putting any restrictions in meriting old posts so there old post can be merited.
I think many of the old legit user are now inactive accounts.
This  system will create unrest on old spammers only.
I do not think anybody using this forum for gaining and sharing knowledge will be impacted (with exception of serious Discussions/Ivory Tower), everybody got same right in this forum.
Avatar and signature restrictions does not mean anything as I do not think they are getting used for sharing and gaining information or knowledge.
2008  Other / Meta / Let Decay Default Merits on: March 25, 2018, 04:59:10 AM
I have gone through lot of post that are complaining about merits. Basically most of them are spammers only that are making hue and cry. One of their cheif complaint is that earlier user got free pass in this forum.

Merit system is now in place for approximately 2 months and I think it is time to correct this free pass system also.

I think we should start decaying Default Merits in constant rate, let say decay of 4 Default Merits every week. So it means
after implementing this system users who have Default Merit will see decay of 4 Default Merits per week until the user Default Merit become zero. The rank of user in forum will be determined by the sum of the current Default Merits + Merits earned. (Offcourse I am not ignoring activity).

Since decay of default merit is 4 merit/week , so it means Legendary have 250 weeks (around 5 years to earn 1000 merits points). Hero will have 125 weeks , Full Member have 25 weeks, Member will have 3 weeks.

This new system will challenge users to justify their  ranks and we can proudly say that no one has got free pass.

Actually this system will pose real challenge to those people who got ranks by shit posting before the implementation of Merit system. Since decay of Default Merits will be gradual so it should not affect the constructive user in this forum.

PS: When I used word "Default Merits", I am pointing to those Merits that user got by virtue of their forum rank at the time of implementation of the Merit System. In my post I am just suggesting to decay Default Merits only, sMerits that are already  generated due to these Default Merits will not be impacted.

Edit: ( I added below points in response to concerns of the user)
Concern1:
That wouldn't be fair with people who are participating in this forum for years, but now they are not posting too much. It wouldn't be fair if they lose their rank.

Response: Merit do not put restrictions on meriting the old post of the user.

Concern2: Old user are not posting too much now
Response : Then isteadof decaying 8 default merit in 2 weeks, tie the 8 merits to activity, if user gains 14 activity, he will lose 8 default merit.

Concern 3: Another drawback I can think of is that currently merit sources and legendary members (who have high smerits) are actually seeking out and rewarding lower ranked members to help them rank up. If they were worried about their own ranks, their behaviour would be different.
Response : If you look closely the merit stats, they do not suggest that legendary and hero member are not getting merits.
Individuals are awarding merit according to their taste or principles and I do not think they are seeing rank            before awarding Merits (excluding Merit abuser).

Can we compare lost bitcoin same as bitcoin burnt.
2010  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 ($10 for 2nd) + 8 Merits every week! on: March 24, 2018, 06:40:12 AM
--snip--

I did not understand it, when theymos himself publicly do not want to disclose this information then why  you are so vocal on it.

From below quote, I think Theymos is also in agreement for starting the Merit awarding threads.

I also agree with the idea of (free) "reviewer" topics in general, for finding high-quality posts that went unnoticed.
2011  Other / Meta / Re: Does giving merit to your company isn't allowed? on: March 23, 2018, 07:05:18 AM
E.g. of company (brother, sister, cousin, friend, parent etc.)

Having sMerit and sending it to my company is my decision since it's my sMerits to give. Why some members give me a negative trust for accusing my account and my cousin's account whose mentoring me in this forum an alternate account? We live in the same roof and using the same bandwith of internet. There's nothing in the rules said that you can't merit your company instead you can send merit to anyone you like.

Even your IP address differs and the person is not related/relative of yours. But still you can get negative trust because everybody is seeing that there is back and froth of merit in poor post.
You are giving 7 merits (that is your max smerits ) for a post that is even below the average post. Sentence creation has serious flaws in that post.
Same is with your merited post from that guy.
Both of you are openly exchanging merits for each other poor post.
Now tell me, what you expect from the forum/Mods/members?

We are not only supposed to follow  rules but also  ethics and moral obligations.

I think now you understand what exactly you (+ company)  have broken.

2013  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: SEVEN FIGURES FROM SCRATCH on: March 21, 2018, 12:15:03 PM

After knowing it all, I have found myself being interested in altcoins and cryptocurrency in general. I have read a number of books and I am certain that if I will follow my plans, Having seven figures in my bank account by the next five years it's way too Possible!

Surely possible

Cutting the long story short, I have decided to start with bounties and Airdrop. This will help me to be familiar with coins and I will be earning some dosh for a living. (How nice, LEARNING+EARNING).

But learn some technical stuff too like Unix,Web development, Programming languages like C++ /Java,Block chain development. Instead of relying on signature,Twitter or facebook bounty ,you can get development bounty. Might be one day you will create something good. (like Satoshi or Vitalik).

Once I will master the art, I am going to start day trading in some volatile coins and long term investment in some promising ICOs.

Saying it all, I am doing Forex which will help me to double my capital in every two months.

I highly doubt that these are good for long term. Might be you considered only Happy path scenarios.

2014  Other / Meta / Re: I'm reluctant to award merit in threads started by me. on: March 21, 2018, 04:42:50 AM
I'm probably stupid in taking this somewhat traditional attitude, and I have awarded merits in my threads in the past. I'm cruising through some threads looking to award merits, but I'm having trouble finding posts that I like. Maybe I'm a bit distracted because I'm listening to political comments while I do it.

So what do you guys think, should I include my own threads in my merit awarding hunts?

You are fairly active and respected too. I will like to see you as a Merit source (if you are not).
I think you have presence in various board of forums (Meta, Serious Discussion, Beginners & helps etc..) and still you are not finding enough good post to merit, then this is a serious question on post quality in forum.
Starting your thread and awarding Merits according to your taste is also a good choice (for ex. we  have "sMerits for art").

2017  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Recovering Bitcoin Forks in Coinomi's Wallet on: March 20, 2018, 08:26:15 AM
So after August 1, 2017, with the Bitcoin Cash fork, many other BTC forks have come up, and some of them reasonably valuable, like Bitcoin Gold.

I'll teach you how to rescue most of them. I do not like to install obscure forks on my computer for security reasons (they may be infected with viruses and such). I think a lot of people think like me. That way I only recover forks so I can use a safe wallet known to the community.

Coinomi's Android wallet has a great reputation in the community and supports most of these forks. I'll teach you how to recover several forks here, quite simply.

Important detail: Coinomi only accepts the private key from Legacy addresses (starting with 1) and Segwit P2SH (starting with 3). Segwit P2WPKH addresses (starting with bch1) can not be retrieved using this method.

These are the Forks supported by Coinomi:

Name                 Date of Fork            Price USD (03/18/2018)
Bitcoin Cash        08/01/2017                           920
Bitcoin Gold         10/24/2017                           60
Bitcore                11/2/2017                              7
Bitcoin Atom        1/24/2018                             15
BitcoinPrivate        2/28/2018                            31

If you had bitcoin on those dates, you have these coins at your address. Not all of these coins are 1: 1 with bitcoin, some like Bitcore are 1: 0.5 (0.5 BTX for each BTC).

To rescue the forks, just follow these steps.

1 - Move all your bitcoins to another portfolio (most important step, since you are exposing your seed)

2 - Download Coinomi:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.coinomi.wallet

3 - Within Coinomi, add these coins: Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold, Bitcore, Bitcoin Atom and Bitcoin Private.

4 - In your browser, in private mode, or on an offline computer, go to this website (BIP39 Mnemonic Code):
https://coinomi.com/recovery-phrase-tool.html

Put your Recovery Phrase, or Seed (Remember to move all your coins before to another wallet)
In the "Coin" box, choose Bitcoin.
Still on the BIP39 Mnemonic Code site, scroll down to Derived Address.

5 - Open your Coinomi Wallet and open the wallet of each of the coins mentioned above. Click on the QR Code icon (in the upper right corner) and scan each Private Address QR Code that appears on the site bip39, until you have redeemed the entire balance.

6- Repeat for each coin you want to recover.

I recovered all the forks well using this method, no problem.
There are many other forks, this site shows most (https://www.btcdiv.com).

2019  Economy / Services / Re: A simple bitcoin Q/A. Learn new and interesting stuff about bitcoin. on: March 19, 2018, 06:35:33 PM
Question: Give a short summary on bitcoind.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoind
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoin_Core

bitcoind is a program that implements the Bitcoin protocol for remote procedure call (RPC) use. It is also the second Bitcoin client in the network's history. It is available under the MIT license in 32-bit and 64-bit versions for Windows, GNU/Linux-based OSes, and Mac OS X.

As part of Bitcoin Core, bitcoind has been bundled with the original client from version 0.2.6 to 0.4.9, and with Bitcoin-Qt since 0.5.0.

Bitcoind is a headless daemon, and also bundles a testing tool for the same daemon. It provides a JSON-RPC interface, allowing it to be controlled locally or remotely which makes it useful for integration with other software or in larger payment systems.

bitcoind is a multithreaded C++ program. It is designed to be portable across Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. The multithreaded aspect leads to some complexity and the use of certain code patterns to deal with concurrency that may be unfamiliar to many programmers. Also, the code is aggressive in the use of C++ constructs, so it will help to be fluent with map, multimap, set, string, vector, iostream, and templates. As is typical of a C++ program, a lot of code tends to end up in the header files so be sure to search both the .cpp and .h files when looking for a function

The client is capable several major operations
Initialization and Startup,Node Discovery,Node Connectivity,Sockets and Messages,Block Exchange,Transaction Exchange,Wallet Services,RPC Interface,User Interface

Sorry, Till above I just copied the wiki, I do not want to rephrase and paraphase because the above information is very cleary written and very understandable.

My understading and confusion: Bitcoind is one of the 2 variation  original bitcoin program available and a 'headless' version.  I assume it is written by Satoshi as he used to be cheif developer 0.3.19 but what used to be first client and what shortcomings/enhancement is in bitcoind from the first client.

2020  Other / Meta / Re: theymos, monetize this forum ;) on: March 19, 2018, 08:55:42 AM

Let's assume such a "signature wearing right" costs $10 per month. Most signature campaigns pay a bigger amount (~$100), so it's not a big deal for a campaign participant to pay this fee. A $100/month campaign, thus, de facto would become a $90 campaign.

Anything more than $0.5 per post is extortion, $0.5 should be the fixed maintenance fee. you are free to pay more.

Pay per post will cause death of discussions and help. Somebody need help still pay .5$ per post but  others are supposed to pay for helping or sharing the idea?

Here staff should put up clear rules and ban managers that do not follow them.

What if there is no manager? there is nobody managing Bountyhive campaigns.

I think if there is a official forum spammer list and we ban user for spamming, then we do not need managers. Forget about Bounty hive campaigns, Newbie account that are not part of any campaign just creating threads/post like "Done", "I love bitcoin,do you" and so on . and sometimes you find some established member replying on top of them further increasing spam

I think some campaign managers already taken a good initiative and if this idea is developed officially ,then I am sure it will solve the majority spam problem.

Now coming to real problem of spam.

I think SMAS list is a good initiative.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1545652.0

Whoever caught spamming should be added to list with timestamp of first occurence.
Two more column of occurrence/number of time  and latest timestamp added in the list to keep track, how many time user spammed and last time when user caught spamming, and if somebody caught spamming more than 2 times in a week, then ban the user for a week.
User who is featured in this list will have there signature disabled at once (So they cannot take part in any sig campaign.)

if even 10% of user here use "Report To Moderator" to report spam  then in no time we will get this list populated.
