I believe hosting some part of T-20 WC in the USA will give some reality check to ICC and broadcasters. ATM they are planning to host the biggest premier match of Ind vs Pak there.

Pro - It'll be a superhit in terms of gate money.

Cons - The Timezone is not suitable for the Indian prime time slot unless they start a match in the morning like 8-10 am. Also, the Stadium is in work in progress.

I believe that they will start the match at around 9am in Florida, which would mean that in India, the matches will start by 7:30pm. Even if they delay it by 1 hour, it will still stay in prime time. So I am not worried by that much about the match timings. AFAIK, the match between India and Pakistan will be played at the Central Broward Park in Lauderhill. On the other hand, if the match is scheduled at the Grand Prairie Stadium, then it is going to be an issue. The third venue (Eisenhower Park Stadium in East Meadow) is also in the same time zone as Florida.

There are some reports coming out that the Netherlands are playing ODI warm up matches against Karnataka.

Karnataka literally humbled them or some might say humiliated them. At one time Dutch team scorecard was 3/7, all top 7 batters scored 0 ( 3 extras were the high scorer), followed by 39/9. Then their tail wagged before getting bowled out for 123. Karnataka won by 142 runs. Wish there was some highlight to watch.

If they were down to 39/9, then how these guys will perform at the ODI World Cup against the stronger teams like India, Pakistan and Australia? I don't want to blame Netherlands here. A few days ago, Sri Lanka got blasted out for a total of just 50 runs. Quality of cricket outside the pig-4 has gone for a walk. The gap is narrowing between the pig-4 and remaining teams. And in case of associates such as Netherlands, they also have to deal with the double whammy of getting almost zero funds from the ICC.
2003  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2023/2024 on: September 27, 2023, 01:50:08 AM
José Mourinho had made mention that he wasn't going to ever coach at the Saudi pro league and if im not mistaken he rejected an offer to move over there before the league started but i think a very good offer would be enough to tempt him to move over there and a £100m is a very big offer and a very tempting on for that matter and i feel he's not going to reject it

Hes mot getting any younger and his managerial career is gradually coming to an end, i believe he'll consider that opportunity as a retirement fund to gather emough money from the Saudi League before permanently retiring from coaching, well i know Mourinho to be man of his world and i expect him to stick to it, well sooner or later we'll kmow if he'll keep to his words or be tempted by the huge offer.

It is not just about the money. If the offer is from Al Nassr (for which I don't have any confirmation), then he will be reuniting with Cristiano Ronaldo. And apart from the salary, he is assured of staying in media limelight. Saudi Professional League is getting more and more popular around the world with every passing week, and obviously Al Nassr is one of the favorites to win the trophy this time. Unless there is explicit statement from Mourinho that he is not going to Saudi Arabia, I would say that all possibilities are open.
2004  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2023/2024 on: September 26, 2023, 07:10:28 PM
My question is which club that will be interested in signing him as a coach? I remember that the day when he was offering himself to the chelsea sea last season but chelsea was rejecting him(bad decision).
Mou's main aim to make more and more record in european competition. He never had interest to go to the saudi pro league. I would like to see him to coach ronaldo once again but it may seem my dream will not come true.

Never say "never". In the end, the Saudi money power may prove to be too tempting for José Mourinho. All that said, don't expect any miracles from him. This is the same guy who want to bring flop footballer Jadon Sancho to AS Roma at any cost. Anyway, as per news reports, one of the Saudi clubs are offering around £100million for Mourinho. This is manytimes his current salary and I don't think that he will reject this offer outright. I am not sure which club has made the offer, but I believe that it is Al Nassr. In that case, Ronaldo and Mourinho will be working together.

England were going with 9 runs per over in 31st over before rain came for rescue of Ireland team. Salt scored 68 of just 21 balls while Ben Duckett scored 107 runs of just 78 balls. There is only one economical bowler from Ireland side, Craig Young with bowling figures 7-0-31-3 and other bowlers were smashed hard by English bowlers.
New Zealand won 3rd ODI against Bangladesh today and also won the ODI series. Bangladesh performance as usual was beyond average in this ODI series.

Irish bowling is becoming more and more shit with each passing day. Josh Little, despite his huge IPL deal is not performing well at international level. Craig Young has been somewhat consistent, but he is injury prone. The less talked about the other bowlers (Mark Adair, Curtis Campher, Barry McCarthy.etc), that better. It is not very surprising that they failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup this time. After receiving the full member status, their quality of play seems to have gone down drastically (both in terms of batting and bowling).

There are some concerns being raised about the weather conditions, which may prevail during the world cup in 2026.

https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/fifa-2026-worldcup-climate-lineker-31031557

All three host nations (Canada, USA and Mexico) have been devastated recently by extreme heat waves and wildfires. And the tournament is scheduled to take place during the peak summer season. Combined with extreme distances between different venues, weather is sure to create a lot of difficulties for the fans, as well as for the players. Gary Lineker and David Wheeler have already spoken against the huge carbon footprint that may result from this tournament.

2023 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier will get started this week. The winner will qualify for the 2024 T20I world cup, which will be hosted by USA and West Indies. 15 countries (including the hosts) have qualified till now, and 5 slots are open as of now. Out of these slots, 1 is from Americas, 2 are from Asia and the remaining 2 are from Africa. Asian qualifier will start next month, while African qualifier is scheduled for November. For the Americas Qualifier, Canada will be the overwhelming favorites followed by Bermuda. Other participating teams are Cayman Islands and Panama.

Did anyone watched the ODI between England and Ireland? By the time the match was abandoned as a result of rain, England was at 280/4. If there was no interruption, they would have possibly made a 500 plus total (highest total in ODI is 498/4, made by England vs Netherlands last year at Amstelveen. Most of the Irish bowlers went for more than 10 runs per over, with Craig Young being the sole exception (he had figures of 7-0-31-3). Josh Little failed once again, and he returned figure of 5-0-69-0. This guy was picked up by Gujarat Titans for €500,000 per year.

Some valid points. The ICC is actually trying to increase interest though in cricket through the T-10 and T-20 formats which is slowly and steadily attracting viewers from not just the US, but from around the world.

However, I disagree with your statement about interest decreasing among Indians. For example, IPL's constant viewership records every year disprove your statement.

Well.. you misunderstood my statement. I was saying that interest is waning among the Indian-Americans, and not among the Indians in India. I have heard several reports about American born Indian-Americans getting more interested in sports leagues that are more popular in that country, such as the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL. Recently the USACA conducted the Major League Cricket (MLC) in a few venues within the US, but again interest mostly came from the first-generation immigrants. I didn't noticed large number of locals among the audience.

Today, once again you lost a bet in this match. You had chosen the Bangladesh team but Bangladesh could not win. Today, winner is New Zealand team. New Zealand's performance was quite impressive in both batting and bowling. In today match, Bangladesh set target of 171 runs in 34.3 overs and whole team out. There were still left few overs left to play and if Bangladesh secure a few more wickets then they could have chased down the target successfully. The match was quite suspenseful and intense. Anyway, next World Cup is about to start hopefully all teams will perform well. New Zealand has won this series by leading 2-0.

This series turned out to be a morale booster for New Zealand. Let's not forget the fact that Bangladesh is not exactly the best opponent you can get in Asia, but the fact that New Zealand managed to defeat them comprehensively while playing under Asian conditions is a big boost for them. Adam Milne and Trent Boult picked up 6 wickets between them, and this is a very good sign ahead of the ODI World Cup. Among the spinners, Ish Sodhi, Rachin Ravindra and Cole McConchie have done a decent job so far. Addition of Mitchell Santner would make their spin attack even more stronger.

There is too much confusion to choose from the named lot as to who will be the part of playing 11. SKY is aggressive and can come in the end, increase the current run rate, job done. KL Rahul is good as a wicket-keeper and shows a good temperament with spinners, he is in excellent form with the bat. Shreyas Iyer is another batter who is aggressive with the bat. Ishan Kishan is the backup WC, aggressive with the bat. You are right SKY does not hold a good chance of being part of the playing 11. Everything now depends on the coach, captain, and team management and in all probabilities, the team that played the finals of the Asia Cup would be the playing 11.

I would rather trust Ravindra Jadeja or Axar Patel with the responsibility to boost the scoring towards the end. Suryakumar Yadav is just too unreliable and volatile. On top of that India would rather prefer to include allrounders such as Hardik and Shardul in the squad, rather than reserving a slot for Yadav, who is not good with his bowling. We still have a few days to go for the warmup matches. Let's see how these players perform. SKY may get 1-2 matches to showcase his skills and this is going to be it for him. Getting the preference ahead of KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan is going to be a tough task.
2012  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ICC WORLD CUP 2023 ACTUAL DISCUSSION THREAD! on: September 26, 2023, 08:03:09 AM
Every Indian player from Asia Cup to the current bilateral series has shown immense improvement in their performance. At the moment Rahul Dravid would be in such a situation that it will be hard to leave any player from the final playing 11. The fielding needs some improvement but that can be managed if batters do well. There are few batter that are eyeing the 4th,5th &6th position in the batting line-up. I meas Rahul, SKY, Iyer & Kishan all of them have batted extremely well.

Suryakumar Yadav may still not get the nod. He has a reputation of being very good in the T20 format, while being quite ordinary in ODIs. Despite his previous track record, he has been included in the Indian squad for the ODI World Cup (and Sanju Samson fans were up in arms when they heard about it). But I guess he may not get too many chances, as Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul are in good form. Only in case any of them get injured, he has a chance of getting included in the playing XI.

Asian Games men's cricket tournament will start tomorrow, with the first set of group phase matches. Mongolia is taking on Nepal, and Cambodia will be playing against Japan tomorrow. 9 teams are divided into 3 groups, with the winners proceeding to Quarter-finals. The five test nations are already given direct entry to the QF stage. So in total, 14 teams are participating. India will be hoping for a gold medal here as well, after winning the women's gold yesterday. But it is going to be tough as all the test nations have sent strong teams.

You can read the bio of many Brazilian players and they will say that they were growing in one of those favelas, that they did not have shoes or food, and they were playing football all day by kicking a ball of paper, etc.

That is very common in Brazil, and to a lesser extent, South America.

These kids grew up playing with the absolute minimum, just a ball made of paper or trash, and ended up being the best in the world.

Rivaldo for example has issues with malnutrition when he was a kid.

Well.. a lot of footballers around the world originally were born and brought up in informal settlements. And this is true in case of Brazil as well. Favelas contribute to 4-5% of the population, but half of their footballers come from these type of settlements. Even in European countries that is the case. Look at the French team. A number of players, such as Frank Ribery and Raphael Varane were born in informal settlements. Even in Argentina, star players such as Diego Maradona and Angel Di Maria also hails from such settlements.

Still more than a week left and few reports did suggest that he's recovering quite well so there might be some possibility. We might get our answers when we get into warm up fixtures.

IDK, they were hardly fielding their first choice team in ODI bilateral (Everyone was doing this) so you never know and like i said many times these guys always punch above their weights so there is a possibility of some surprise.

Well.. I agree that they punch above their weight at times. But at the same time, historically New Zealand hasn't performed well in Indian conditions, unlike the case with England or Australia. They have a very weak spin bowling lineup, and this is going to be a big minus for them going forward. On top of that I am not sure how their batsmen will handle the South Asian spinners in the turning pitches of India. But again, New Zealand is a team that is capable of shocking the favorites (in case they can get adjusted to the pitch conditions).

In around 2 weeks time, the next round of matches are going to start. Group A is looking very interesting, with Spain now at the no.2 position. Norway has only 7 points from 5 matches and unless a miracle happens, they may fail to qualify for the main tournament. In Group B, it is still a fight between Greece and Netherlands for the second spot, with the latter having an advantage. In Group C, it's between Italy and Ukraine. Apart from these groups, it is now more or less clear about who will qualify to the main tournament from the other groups.

Cartels. Those are big problems. Didn't you watch the news where the US military is about to fight the Cartels as they are now terrorists? I guess that's the plan why immigrants were allowed to get inside. It is to accuse Manuel Lopez of sending terrorists into the country. Time to occupy Mexico.

For once nothing in this current administration can be seen as an achievement. No mention of winning the war or stopping the war for once but all we hear is sending more money to Zelensky and nevermind the homelessness in the country.

Why blame Mexico, when the Biden administration doesn't have any intent to stop the migrant flow? For Biden, a larger illegal alien population inside the USA is beneficial in the long run, as they are likely to vote for left-wing parties once they receive citizenship. Last year of Trump regime (2020) saw around 300,000 border apprehensions at the southern border. For FY22, it spiked to 2,200,000. For this year, the number is going to be even higher. Blaming Mexico, or it's president Andrés Manuel López Obrador for this mess is just a tactic to divert attention.
2018  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: September 26, 2023, 02:34:27 AM
Lol. Do you know how many Indians live in the US currently? I think 25% of India's population resides in the US itself. Many of them are cricket fans. If you include citizens from other cricket loving countries, you get the point basically.

This is why it makes complete sense as to why the USA is interested in the beautiful game of cricket.

Out of the total population of 332 million, Indian-Americans are around 1.3% (4 million). There are a few million from other ethnic groups that play cricket, such as Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Nepalis, Lankans, Australians, South Africans and West Indians. But overall, not more than 2-3% of the US population knows to play cricket. And the focus of ICC has been this expat population rather than the natives. However, cricket is on the decline among Indians and other South Asians. US-born children mostly prefer basketball or baseball. And so far the ICC has failed to spread cricket among the local population.

Brazil must start paying more attention to their young talents, because there are many children born with great talent in the world of football. I'm sure if they can focus more on that, then they will again become a very feared country. Now they are also a country that is considered a lot, but lately they are declining. It's unfortunate when they have high potential but can't utilize it very well, it's the same as throwing away the assets they have. Not many countries have the potential that they have in football.

It's not like Brazil is declining. The reason why you see Brazil not winning a lot of the tournaments is that the other countries have managed to catch up with them. Hundreds, if not thousands of Brazilian players participate in various football leagues around the world. In due course of time, the players from other countries also learn skills from them. On top of that, a number of Brazilian players have also got naturalized as citizens of other countries and now represent them in international tournaments. And it is not just due to lack of funds, but also due to lack of opportunities back at home.
2020  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 26, 2023, 02:14:07 AM
Incredible figures from Titas Sadhu in the final. Gave away 6 runs in her 4 overs with economy rate of 1.5 and also picked 3 wickets. Its good to see women cricket getting popularity day by day. Recently BCCI started Women's league and that will definitely grow bigger with time in future since India is big market  of cricket. India got the gold and they rightly deserve it.

This is why I have always said that the decision by the BCCI to delay the launch of a franchise T20 league for women impacted the game negatively. As soon as they launched the Women's Premier League, there have been a visible improvement in the quality of game from the Indian women's players. And this league was needed, because the current domestic setup for women in India doesn't assure quality. There are 38 first class teams, and the quality gets diluted when players are distributed across this many different teams.
