2001  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [551GH] ABCPool PPS - Proxy Pool For High & Steady Mining Rewards on: June 19, 2012, 11:54:53 PM
Does ABC support donation less that 1%?

The scale shows 0-100% and if I try to do a value less that 1% then it changes it to 1%.   If that is the minimum, you should just update the page and state that clearly.  Please advise

+1

Can't change the donations up nor down, as the OP said I think they're deactivating the donations or are they still charging it?

I was told it would be manually set or removed.   Nothing has happened as of yet.  I hope it gets resolved soon.

But other than that, I have enjoyed this pool and continue to support it.
2002  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs ASIC Gear Potential on: June 19, 2012, 11:42:06 PM
Satoshi would not want it to come to this.
How do you know? Are you channeling him now?
I just think he would have wanted "the people" to have the coins, not the millionaires who can afford these special mining machines.  So what if the Federal Reserve bought a bunch?  If they are only $40k for a 1 TH/s unit, what is stopping them from dropping $10 million on 250 of these units and having 250 TH/s?  And what's stopping them from doing that over and over again until they control the supply of bitcoins?  Now, that would increase the value of the bitcoins that are already out in the wild, but we have to be aware of the fact that it allows the upper 1% TOO much control.
I'm not a millionaire, and I can afford a Jalapeno device for $150. I'm sure lots of others can too.

Well if you not a millionaire, then I guess he isn't talk about you.   The issue of centralization can become a problem if all the incentive (ie: profit) to mine is taken from the many and put into the deepest pockets.   It comes down to what people feel the most important aspects of the Bitcoin Project are?    I would thinking decentralization and the use of cryptography are near the top of my list.  So if we are doing things that counteract these items, then we are potentially undermining the currency or at least creating more vulnerabilities because it will have more central points of attack.   This is why I believe if BFL is coming to market this strong, they should develop a policy that addresses there feelings on this and stick to it.  I have no problem supporting them and purchasing their products, we just need to understand that "we are all in this together" so we need to play nice to a point.  If not, then we will cut each others throats and implode from within.  If you don't believe me or don't care.  Then do nothing and support anything you like.  I hope other like-minded people will support at least a productive dialog about this issue.   What I think we need to do, is get Gavin and other senior developers involved so they can weigh in on the long-term affects and if this can be a problem, that would help me a lot to hear it from someone who knows more than me about Bitcoin and issues like these.

Thoughts?

Then it is true that "true freedom" is based on direct violence or assumed violence.    In a world of freedom with the above world, only the strong and powerful prosper.  Now you may cut too, "this is reality, get over it"  Yes, and I will but denigrating me for saying what I said, it a pretty weak argument.  FYI:  Violence can be done in business as well.

Bitcoin is a decentralized p2p cryptographic currency.   What we are dealing with is a centralization issue.    In our system, this becomes a problem.  What I care about is keeping the network robust, if our networks end up in a few hands, those make easy points of attack.   I just want more communication and guidance from BFL for the networks sake.   I am a customer and will be purchasing ASIC as well as we upgrade.

2004  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Public Plea to Bitcoin Developers and Supporters alike on: June 18, 2012, 09:26:44 PM

In essence the ONLY reason to change the algorithm is if there is a security problem with it, which at the moment there is not.

The only problem with this line of thinking is that when you do have a problem, it will be too late.    I am looking for more formal guidance from BFL and maybe some added information on what there intentions are long-term.  They have to understand politics do play apart in this because so many peoples hard work and investment is tied to Bitcoin so they have a RESPONSIBILITY to understand the fortunate position and power they weld.

If they disagree or anyone on here responds with, "they can do whatever they want", in my opinion, don't really believe in Bitcoin for its important place in history and are really just in it to profiteer.   In any case, thats what we already have in the world around us, but here we "could" actually try and work together to change things so we help not only the big players grow, but the small one too so we have a robust network and people we have a pleasure to work with.   Maybe it is idealistic, but I don't think this bar is set too high.

I want to build something that will be here after I am not and is in a better shape than I left it

I tentatively think for BFL to maximize its profits without causing its miners/customers to lose money, it needs to sell enough devices to drive almost everyone out of the market (ex. all the gpus, and at least stop new production of fpgas).  This might mean increasing the hash rate by around 5 times - so they would stop people with very cheap electricity (like in Quebec) from profitably mining with GPUs.

Then it needs to restrict supply of the ASIC devices and price them so that miners get their money back within, say, 6 months.  The payback time frame needs to be very short because another company (or group of people) might produce an ASIC and then the hash rate will go through the roof (factor x100 increase), and there is no other known use for the devices (If password cracking turns out to be lucrative - then this changes everything).  If BFL can make a profit doing this than that is good. Otherwise BFL and/or the miners are in for losses.

The ASIC devices also all need to be delivered on the same date.  Or whoever gets them first will benefit a LOT.

So they need to be sold once, and then not sold again until there is competition in the ASIC market or the miners have had time to earn back their investment.

Or BFL could takeover the network and mine 90% of the bitcoins for itself until a competitor arrives.

This is what I have been thinking since this announcement.   As a community, we need to think about this issue hard and long and see if its the best interest of Bitcoin.   I am leaning towards this being a hack job and someone really trying to be clever.   Because if not, BFL would be basically giving is the "bird" in a sense because they gave no guidance to the many people who are trying to grow the network and create value,  if I released a product like this, I would be very aware of how this is going to affect so many people, that I would give guidance so people can make plans and investments.  If they didn't think it was their responsibility or didn't care then that would tell us a lot about the heart and soul of BFL.   If you think that is all about the dollars and sense and nothing about the community as a whole and how your actions affect us all, then YOUR IN THE WRONG PLACE.

We already have enough people that want to see us fail, the last thing we need is some company with smart people coming in swing their "you know what" around without any thought of the long term goals.  If we allow the network to fall into a few hands then we are lost and we might as well come up with Bitcoin 2.0 now, because when you have a few points of attack, then that makes your a target.   Yes, I have ordered their products and have contacted them about this but I said the same thing in it as well to be consistent.  I have no problem with the product, but it is such a game-changer, you OWE it to Bitcoin miners everywhere to let them know when it is coming and how you are handling orders and who is first.   That is sound business and will go a long ways to make many people happy and less stressed.

2006  Economy / Securities / Re: Verification details on GLBSE..who has submitted what ? on: June 17, 2012, 03:21:09 PM
Time for asset owners to justify there lack of transparency. I've got plenty more to invest when asset owners act to nullify some further risk for me.

Our listing is almost ready, I will have an offering statement and I will be verified on GBLSE.  Also, before the launch, I encourage potential investors to setup conference calls so we can answer specific questions.

I agree with what your saying, from the beginning I knew being accessible and known would be a great benefit to the company and people wanted to see what we offer.

I have been unable to find an official announcement from Butterfly Labs that is both credible and verifiable. Can you please provide a URL hosted on their domain with the appropriate news announcement?

Until then, I would urge caution with regards to this Internet rumor whose veracity is in question with an unverified source as it may be a hoax aimed at causing people to devalue their mining shares/bonds, equipment, etc. in an attempt to get them to sell them at a lower price.

Also, someone should let Butterfly Labs know about the press release since if someone is using their name without their consent then Butterfly Labs may want to proceed with legal action as there are several actionable torts if that is the case.

This is correct.  We need official confirmation first.

IMHO it's best to keep your cool, and check butterflylabs.com every second Smiley for the announcement, just in case this one is some kind of diversion.

Until we see something on their website or a real confirmation.  We should assume this may be fake.

Or Could it be that someone hacked into bfl's account and .... ?  Since there is no official announcement made on their website ..... (I know of the comment on their page to prepare for june. But there nothing more to that?)

This could be it.   I would hope that Sonny (BFL) would give us more guidance than this being that is kind of improvement is a game-changer.

Is this deal dead?  Have not gotten a response since Friday morning.  Thanks
2011  Bitcoin / Hardware / [Archive] BFL trolling museum on: June 16, 2012, 06:13:34 PM
BFL is online right now but has not come here and commented at all?   They really need someone to handle their PR.   We truly need to clarifications on this and soon.  Honestly is it lack of respect for all these miners investing their time and money trying to make the network work to come in and drop a BOMBSHELL like this and not be ready to field questions and concerns.   Put yourself in our shoes, this is what we are rewarded with for supporting your product?   Please come on here and start addressing these concerns so we can get some clarity.

Major Questions from me:

- First shipment date estimate (2012, 2013, 2014?  Which Quarter)

- Why push the difficulty bar so high so quickly?

- Who is the VC that invested in it?
Is the VC affiliated with any government agency (I am serious)?

- Are you going to purposely limit supply?

Sincerely,
Dalkore

Just use x64 OS. Looks like you're using windows, thats fine. 11.12 or 12.1 driver, use 2.1 SDK too, its fastest with all 5xxx cards. 2.4/2.5 about 3% slower.

What SDK comes in 11.12.  I am not using an SDK currently.   I am getting around 260 m/hash per card.   I did upgrade to 64bit.

if you think you can't differentiate yourself or the average person can keeps lots and lots of machines running effectively
The average person doesn't need to run lots of machines. Just whatever the amount he wants to invest in mining will buy him.

Doing something more efficiently than others isn't really differentiation, and can be taken into account in a bond model. If you believe you're more efficient than others, offer your bonds at a lower price (thus being more competitive), knowing that you'll still make a profit. This is like any other commodity where whoever produces it at the lowest cost wins. IMO investors shouldn't play guessing games about the issuer's competence - they take the risk of BTC price and difficulty, the miner should take all other risks.

We are just describing two different investment philosophies.   What I am doing behind the scenes as my job is increasing our capacity with deals that don't always involve investors capital but still goes to the bottom-line.  These deal increase the dividend and that increase their ROC and ROI and the ROC is over 1.0 and the risk capital as an inverse will be 0.0 (initial investments only).   This is a value investment strategy I want am pursuing.

I say, looking for the solid and management team is what will win in the long-term and I intend to be one of the companies people look to for that.  I don't discount what you are saying, I understand your position and it has merit.  I am just saying this position has merit as well if done correctly.

I disagree that it has been determined that bonds or stocks are optimal and if you think you can't differentiate yourself or the average person can keeps lots and lots of machines running effectively then I am going to prove that wrong.   Personally I would use both depending on what phase of our strategy our company is in.

I agree that people don't seem to understand how the stock market works or how to create shareholder value.     I know exactly how I am going to do it and people that are paying attention will notice the difference.   What people want is long-term return on investment after return of capital in the form of BTC denominated dividends.  If I invested in another company, that is what I would care about as well.

What I think the problem is, is more a lack of understanding on how things are going to change over the next 6-8 years.

what is your electricity cost?

Depends on how many machines we are talking and what load they are going to draw.   The range is from: 0.00(free) to .02 -.087/kwh (depending on the deal).   Electricity is cheap and I can manage multiple machines with little hassle.  Send me a message or email me and we can start a dialog.

I might have too.   Currently I am loading 64bit because someone mention a limit on gpus in 32bit.  Then I am going to install Catalyst 11.12 and AB 2.2.1 and then see if the miner will run before I do any gpus changes.

Hello Community,

Here is what I am after.   I am looking to expand mining capacity and I am in negotiations for up to 8 office spaces in a secure building with extremely cheap power.   I am over 10 GH with more coming online.  I want people who are willing to set a price we agree too, ship the machine to me and once it is tested and online the payments start.   This will all be deals that you will get steady BTC payments until the loan is retired.   No pre-payment penalties.   I have no problem getting on the phone and discussing terms or somewhere like IRC or Skype.   I am very serious and I am doing this to ramp up for our IPO launch coming soon so I can reward my investors even more for investing with us.

PM on here so we can start a dialog.

Thank you,
Dalkore

P.S.  I will entertain straight BTC deals but those I will need to secure funding so they will take longer to close, but I am interested at the right price and setup.

Deepbit is experiencing problems.  Hashrate is down 2/3rds and the website is intermittent.   My workers keep giving error messages that support.     Any official update to what the situation is?
