"Whats "backing" bitcoin?" We, the people who use and accept it.
20102  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buying now or waiting a bit(coin)? on: November 28, 2013, 04:28:27 PM
I'd wait a few days before investing now, it's likely that the price may drop quite a bit like when it hit $900, but you never know.

What do you mean? It hit 1000$, I believe yesterday

BTC hit an all-time high of $900 a couple of weeks ago and people went crazy, then it plummeted in price to $450.
20103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IFC Removed from Cryptsy on: November 28, 2013, 03:46:08 PM
I've had a few hundred of these sent to me from various bounties etc, but none of them have turned up in my wallet, they're just floating around cyberspace. Anyone know how I can fix this?

How much have you got to invest? I'd recommend trying out a few alt currencies first to get you started and to play around with. You can check the others here: http://coinmarketcap.com/

Buying now or waiting a bit(coin)

20105  Economy / Goods / Re: WTS: Nintendo N64, two controllers, and games. on: November 28, 2013, 03:35:23 PM
If that Conkers Bad Fur Day game is rare/worth as much as you say it is, maybe put that in the title: 'With rare Conkers Bad Fur Day game' etc. Maybe you could sell that separate.
20106  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB: Small amount of BTC .02 on: November 28, 2013, 03:33:11 PM
I see you're selling a Nintendo 64 on the marketplace. Try sell some other stuff, or maybe lower the price on the console so a potential buyer only pays for shipping + a little bit extra to get you started. Up to you. You could try putting it on local listing sites like gumtree or craigslist or whatever, but state you only accept BTC or some other cryptocoin.
20107  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Earn 0.001 just for clicking the advertisement on the pages. on: November 28, 2013, 03:23:41 PM
And noone will ever be paid. Smiley

Yeah, it's unfortunately rare that these kinda requests ever pay out, but prove me wrong, OP.
20108  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB: Small amount of BTC .02 on: November 28, 2013, 03:20:06 PM
Try a faucet to get a little amount, or head on over to the Services section and sell your sig space etc.

You'll be lucky to get people to send you coin for Paypal no matter what. If you're desperate you can buy little amounts on ebay to get you started.
20109  Bitcoin / Press / Re: Guardian: 7,500 Bitcoins thrown in bin on: November 28, 2013, 03:04:21 PM

The question that arises is after 50 yrs will half the bitcoins be lost? and after 100?
that's definitely not a good prediction for the future of BTC as a currency, right?
any wise man insights or thoughts?

I imagine lost coins can only push up the value of the remaining coins.
20110  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: New Amsterdam Bitcoin Meetup on: November 28, 2013, 03:02:34 PM
Are there many places that accept Bitcoin is the 'Dam? I'll be going back there sometime next year and I'd love to buy some bud with BTC there haha.
20111  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-11-27 BBC.co.uk: The Bitcoin bungler - a salutary tale on: November 28, 2013, 02:59:53 PM

I remember watching that video of him buying his first coin when it was initially posted and was wanting to travel to the other end of the country just to buy some coins via the ATM cos I was paranoid about buying BTCs with bank transfers, but I decided against it. I bought in a few months later, but I rue that procrastination. The above article is definitely something that I think will become a problem for those who don't fully understand what they're buying into. It's definitely a technology you have to spend a while learning and familiarising yourself with before you take the plunge.

We're working on deterministic wallets for bitcoinj, which combined with better UI will hopefully make it much simpler and easier to back wallets up. I'm also trying to convince Andreas to do automatic cloud backups by default. Users who decide later they don't want to trust their phone manufacturer/Google to keep wallet backups for them can do a key rotation to invalidate the prior uploaded backups.

How safe is the cloud? I've never used it, but I'd be a bit apprehensive about uploading my wallet to anything.
20112  Bitcoin / Press / Re: Guardian: 7,500 Bitcoins thrown in bin on: November 28, 2013, 02:46:39 PM
Utter noob question, but am I right in thinking that if I physically write down the incoming transaction addresses from my wallet and keep it somewhere safe, I am creating a genuine safeguard for my coinage in case of digital wipeout/theft of computer/throwing in trash etc?

NB Date sorted

You need to have the private key for each address. Electrum (electrum.org) makes it easier because it allows you to restore a wallet from 12 words (the seed). Besides securing the 12 words, make sure to either encrypt the wallet if you want to store it on your hard drive, or cut and paste it after every use to a more secure place such as an external drive. Personally, I just delete the wallet after every use because I know I can restore it from the seed. But you should only do this after making sure you can restore the wallet from the seed.

Thanks for this. I've been hearing good things about the electrum wallets.

You'll be lucky to get somebody to sell you coin for paypal, especially at anywhere near the market price. It's not really worth the risk for the seller in case you do a chargeback. You could try ebay, lot's of peeps selling coins but for a massive premium.

Nofap has proven to be one of the most difficult things I've ever attempted. I was always a serious fapper, from getting a quick fap in during my work shift to fapping at school. I had problems, socially, spiritually, personally... Small tasks were challenging and I lacked the motivation to accomplish anything that didn't include immediate gratification.

I was on the youtube channel "Simple Pickup" (bless their souls) watching public pickups when I came across a post of theirs called "Must Not Fap". The video was directed at guys who lacked the motivation to get off their ass and approach woman, but other goodies were mentioned, such as less anxiety and more alpha assertiveness. I was intrigued to say the least.

I tried it. On day 3 I put on the movie Armageddon and low and behold; I cried while watching it. I cried because I felt. I cried because for once in a very long time, I was alive. The world was finally sincere and so were my perceptions of it. The characters in the movie evoked an impassioned response out of me and left me to empathize. Getting up, I realized I found something, something incredible. Perhaps the answer to all my problems, perhaps the key I've been looking for to be successful in a world that doesn't forgive laziness or inaction.

By day 7 I felt as though I was being carried by something other than myself. I had no control over my actions but it seemed like whatever I did/ tried I excelled amazingly. My laugh got fuller and more obnoxious, I didn't care who saw or heard. I was me and whoever didn't like it could go to their room and fap their dignity away.Talking to girls became a joke, a breeze. I got numbers left and right, approached random girls and initiated engaging conversation. Hell, I even had a conversation with a random old woman at Little Caesars Pizza restaurant and enjoyed every humanistic second of it. I jumped at opportunity, laughed in the face of challenge, I was hooked.

Some days as we all know are bad. I've only recently theorized what the reason could be and will describe on a later date if my suspicions are proven accurate. All I can say is don't edge. For the love of god, don't edge.

I almost don't know how to describe the rest...I relapsed about 30 times and had a few girls deplete my man-grapes into shriveled raisins on numerous occasions. The most important thing I ever realized (during this process of insatiable discovery) is that relapse very simply......(drum role)........................... is NOT even worth it. The urge comes---> you give in---> its over: BACK TO SQUARE 1 SUCKER. What a fucking waste. No virtual girl on the planet is worth ruining your progress thus far and the potential that NoFap represents.

What am I doing now? Jerking it. Jokes. Day 20: last few days have been awful but I know it'll get better. The urge to ejaculate has overwhelmed me and bombarded my study sessions. At the end of the day guys, the world will unapologetically categorize you as mediocre if nothing is consciously done to separate yourself from the herd. You are the chef of your own outcome, cook up something worth remembering.

Brilliant. When I was a kid, sometimes on New Years' Eves I would often make a New Year's Resolution not to knock one out for as long as possible. I vary rarely lasted a few days. One time I pumped one out after getting back from a party at about 3AM. Was ashame.
20115  Other / Meta / Re: ETA on avatars? on: November 28, 2013, 12:43:15 PM
Yeah, I would also like avatar feature to be brought back asap. It's really easier to distinguish users...

Yeah, it's easier to memorise people/names when you have something to associate with them. An avatar almost becomes like your online 'face' in a way.
20116  Other / Off-topic / Re: Confused: which laptop is better? on: November 28, 2013, 11:41:20 AM
the one that is faster for mining Smiley

Laptops are a no no for mining. Makes the PSU way too hot so I'm told. I was gonna mine LTC on my shit laptop's CPU many months ago but thank God I didn't or it would be fried.

Don't mine with laptops. You're not gonna make your monies worth back and you'll probably just fry it. I once had a laptop that set on fire from constant torrenting alone. Either spend the money you was gonna buy on some coin, or get a half-decent rig.
20117  Other / Meta / Re: ETA on avatars? on: November 28, 2013, 11:37:09 AM
Are you guys ever going to fix the supposed exploit and allow avatars again? I can't tell people apart with their names, I usually do it with avatars.
Can't wait to use one of your friend's picture (the ones you post all over) as an avatar, so you can finally get to "work"?
You're so obvious it's almost cute. Smiley

I dunno, she seems kinda legit. She posted several time-stamped images with the username of one member of this board. Still, like I said in the other thread, 'she' could still be some dude's GF he's pimping out for coin.

Also, I would really like to be able to upload an image. Being avatar-less is like forever being a newb.
20118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: UK Bitcoiners - Let's get Just-eat to accept Bitcoin on: November 28, 2013, 11:20:28 AM
I sent them an email suggesting that they add the payment option, here was the response:

Quote
Thank you for emailing info@just-eat.co.uk

Thank you for your suggestion. We are not currently considering using this option of the payment, unless we find that there is enough demand for it.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards

Jade

So, they need more demand before they will add the option to pay in Bitcoin? Let's all email them then!

I use just-eat almost weekly. Getting them on-board would be great publicity for Bitcoin, but I reckon this would be a way away yet. Give it time, as all it'll take is a few big retailers to start accepting 'em and the knock on effect would be huge. With the current instability/recklessness of bitcoin it would be a huge risk for businesses, but it's one that could pay off 10-fold in less than a year.

I've often said I wouldn't spend my bitcoins on Subway sandwiches, but I'd like to order from my favourite takeaway place. The money I've made from BTC would be like getting free pizza!
20119  Other / Off-topic / Re: You have been butterflied on: November 28, 2013, 11:07:41 AM
I can't help express my feelings.

butterflisation - the process where you prepaid for something and then waited ages for it to arrive. Waiting for those products to arrive is like having butterflies in the stomach.

Haha. I think 'Butterflied' sounds like it could become a legit word. Maybe for those situations when you get excited by the promise of something, only to be then let down as the 'butterflies' die in your stomach leaving a horrid feeling and dread, decay and disappointment.
20120  Economy / Services / Re: Earn up to 0.4BTC/month just by posting! on: November 28, 2013, 11:00:55 AM
So deep inside you're still hoping that after dropping back to $100 it will shoot to the Moon once again? Otherwise it makes no sense unless you are masochistic indeed!

And I wouldn't call it doing nothing if you don't set yourself posting nonsense or engage in babble talk...
One can hope. Also the prices will probably rise since there is another guy offering 0.6 for what Stunna is offering 0.4. If this new guy does payout then Stunna should be increasing his prices.

Do you mean bitsplay.ga? The campaign has just started but he already has a Trust rating at -6 plus a warning about trading with extreme caution... So we have to wait and see how it all plays out!

yes its always happen as new person coming and giving high rate mean he is going in red now wait for end of first month what happen to him more reds or going in green

People have negged him because his offer sounds too good to be true, especially without any rep or collateral. If he offered a small escrow bond to be paid to people who take part that would've gave peeps a bit of faith, but at this point why would they take the risk of chosing his ads when you can go with Stunna who already has rep. I don't believe you should neg somebody without good reason, but peeps are valid in voicing their concerns and being sceptical.
