2021  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling hiding, rules ignored. on: May 20, 2020, 05:43:05 PM
Shouldn't the case itself be closed due to a government-enforced shut down?

If so, you should report the casino to your local governor, they will be able to force the place to shut down.

Logically, that would only drive the patrons to somewhere else, but it still helps.

These people should gamble online like normal people with an actual conscience. Do they think that wearing gloves and a mask is going to stop them transmitting droplets between people? Drops that stick to clothes and practically any surface and can be blown around by the wind?

Absolute morons.
2022  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Help! Sent BCH to a BTC Address! on: May 20, 2020, 04:51:35 PM
Import your BTC private key into Exodus wallet and then sweep for BCH.

This will automatically extract your BCH from the BTC chain and return it to another account.

Several other wallets offer a similar feature.

Oomf, that high roller leaderboard is looking fine today. Glad to see a rare appearance from a minesweeper player!

Don't forget to check out the wagering contest guys!
2024  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Wagering More or Wagering Less on: May 20, 2020, 01:46:22 PM
I'm not a fan of most wagering competitions, they're pretty much designed as a way for whales to minimize the house edge, while lower volume bettors end up betting more than they otherwise would for no benefit.

The only wagering contests or races I like are the ones that also reward some of the smaller participants, e.g. by having different price tiers by wagering value. This ensures even small but dedicated players can potentially get some benefit out of the promo.

Overall, if you're talking about pure statistics, it's always better to bet big and infrequently, than small and regularly. The way odds work is that you'll move closer to the expected distribution the more you bet, hence you're actually less likely to be in profit if you have tens of thousands of bets, than if you only have a few large bets.

That's why I tend to play with a good sum when I play minersweeper or dice or roulette or something, rather than going for the maximum number of bets to "improve my chances."—it doesn't improve your odds at all, and actually works against you.
2025  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin was mentioned in the TV Show Billions on: May 20, 2020, 12:42:39 PM
I'm bored of these casual mentions.

I want to see a movie that features cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin in a meaningful way, without necessarily denigrating it or doing so with negative connotations.

The vast majority of movies tend to mention Bitcoin in the context of some sort of criminal activity. Even billions did the same, since the guy mentioning Bitcoin was being interviewed by an attorney in an interrogation room.

I think that Cyberpunk 2077 will have a major crypto element to it, but that's not out for some time yet, so it remains to be seen whether it will also be in association with undesirable activities.
2026  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Am I wrong or right? on: May 20, 2020, 12:37:38 PM
Most altcoins aren't pure cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

The vast majority of altcoins are actually what are known as utility tokens, which means they derive their value from their utility on some platform, exchange or website etc.

Bitcoin, on the other hand, is 100% used for transactions and is accepted by tens of thousands of merchants worldwide. Other similar coins like Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Zcash etc are also pure cryptocurrencies, but they're not anywhere near as accepted and are nowhere near as scarce.

These two factors, combined with the sheer number of users makes Bitcoin number 1. So far no altcoin has managed to compete with this.
2027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I Explained Bitcoin to J.K. Rowling on: May 20, 2020, 08:05:22 AM

Lmao, classic.

Craig Wright really is the laughing stock of the cryptocurrency world, and he brought it all on himself.

I look forward to the day when his name fades into a distant memory, since he's undoubtedly one of the world things to ever happen to the cryptocurrency industry.

Once he goes bankrupt that will likely be the last we hear from him.
2028  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I Explained Bitcoin to J.K. Rowling on: May 19, 2020, 11:46:48 PM
Let's see if we can get some traction for this one and bring another great person into the movement:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCm8sYmrr_Y&feature=youtu.be

Explained typically means that somebody is actively listening.

As far as I can see JK didn't even respond to your video or acknowledge it in any form, so you really didn't explain anything.

Much like you can't explain Bitcoin to a brick wall, simply because it's not listening.

"explain
/ɪkˈspleɪn,ɛkˈspleɪn/
Learn to pronounce
verb
make (an idea or situation) clear to someone by describing it in more detail or revealing relevant facts."

2029  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How long does an ETH transaction stay pending before it gets dropped? on: May 19, 2020, 10:07:22 PM
It'll stay pending until it gets dropped from the mempool, after which the balance will be returned to your originating wallet.

How long this will take is anybody's guess, but anywhere from a few days to a month should be accurate. It really depends on the current network load and the number of transactions currently in the mempool.

2030  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A new survey shows that UKs gambling addiction is getting worst day by day. on: May 19, 2020, 08:28:23 PM
Well the UK has tens of millions of people stuck at home as a result of the COVID19 pandemic.

The vast majority of people are incapable of entertaining themselves or spending their time productively, so they go for low hanging fruit sources of entertainment, including TV, arguing with the spouse and gambling.

There's going to be a new wave of people that bettered themselves during the pandemic, and a new wave of people that spiraled into an even worse state.

People can't control themselves, and COVID19 is obviously making it worse.
2031  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 500$ - 30,000$ Gambling Challenge on: May 15, 2020, 02:35:03 PM
OP hasn't updated the thread for a week now, maybe he lost all his money because he took on a ridiculous challenge and set unrealistic goals.

Let this be a lesson to everyone, don't set crazy goals. Be happy with the small wins, the odds are always against you—don't make it worse than it needs to be.

2032  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: bitmex competitor project on: May 15, 2020, 01:10:31 PM
There is always a market demand for competitors.

However, you need to understand that it's not all about low fees.

People will pay Bitmex's high trading fees because of the crazy liquidity it provides, and the protection against bankruptcy through its insurance fund. A good chunk of all its fees go to its insurance fund, which hasn't been depleted in years.

There are already plenty of derivatives exchanges that are cheaper than Bitmex, e.g. ByBit and FTX, but they don't offer anywhere near the same liquidity and most are starting to require KYC.

Unless you've got several million dollars to produce an even more efficient trading engine and have contacts with hundreds of liquidity providers, you're almost certainly going to fail.
2033  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Safest trading strategy on: May 15, 2020, 12:07:30 PM
Well that's not the safest trading strategy at all, since many cryptocurrencies only lose value once bought.

I personally think the safest trading strategy is buying up stablecoins at below parity rates (e.g. during a bull market) and then selling once it returns to its peg.

Repeat this throughout the year and you'll find that you can easily rack up 20-30% per year doing this.

Tether frequently drops down to around $0.99 or even lower sometimes, the same thing often happens to other stablecoins too. So long as they're not hacked or compromised, it's safe to buy them at below parity.
2034  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing Betting this June? on: May 15, 2020, 11:06:35 AM
It's crazy how dull-minded idiots can't even entertain themselves for a few months, and are just itching to be entertained by others.

You know who you are.

How about we take a god damn break from sports or any other event that can worsen the pandemic for just a little while, and work on ourselves instead?

It's god damn infuriating to see.

2036  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New exchanges worth my money???? on: May 15, 2020, 06:34:08 AM
Most of these exchanges came around during or slightly after the 2017 ICO boom, which means they benefitted from a huge amount of initial bullish speculation and investment.

As you are probably aware, the market is a completely different beast now, and investors are more careful with their money.

The fact is, the market is already dominated by Binance, Huobi, Bitfinex etc. You could say it's saturated.

Unless another platform comes up and genuinely has the platform to rival these, it's unlikely it's utility token will pump to the same degree.

I'd personally stay away from them until a truly gamechanging DEX shows up.
2037  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Exchange security questions on: May 14, 2020, 11:00:37 PM
You're not protected against anything just because of biometric security.

Most of the time these biometric security options can be reset by the hacker, e.g. using a sim swap attack or spoofing your email.

These exchanges might also get hacked on their back end, seeing their cold or hot wallets drained, irrespective of whether your account remains intact or not,

The best thing to do is just manage your own private keys.

Buy yourself a Ledger hardware wallet and keep most of your funds on there. Better to be safe than sorry.
2038  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: This guy gambles and wins a total amount of £400,000 and quits while ahead. on: May 14, 2020, 10:37:11 PM
Well, I wouldn't say that this guy is much of a regular.

He played a couple times, he hardly needed to kick a habit or anything to quit.

Him winning £400k and quitting is similar to saying a lottery winner never went back to playing the lottery, as if they were playing all the time beforehand...

Still, anybody who bets a large amount and wins is smart if they're able to quit while they're ahead. The odds are increasingly against players the more they bet, since they'll eventually lose to the house.
2039  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cashing out tips & strategies on: May 14, 2020, 09:17:43 PM
I personally convert most of my cryptocurrency to giftcards on Bitrefill, since I happen to spend a lot of money on Amazon and at various other retailers anyway.

Beyond that, I invest in gold from European Mint, and keep the rest in crypto savings accounts. Whatever I generate from the savings accounts is converted into gold.

If Bitcoin ever reaches a stupidly high value very quickly, then I may be tempted to cash out my whole stash, in which case I'll probably arrange a local meet and sell for cash.

Not exactly sure how to do that securely yet, but hopefully this thread will give me some ideas.
2040  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I have now 3 ETH, when ETH 2.0 (proof of stake) is out , do i will lose my 3 ETH on: May 14, 2020, 07:33:29 PM
Unless it occurs by a hostile takeover fork, then it's unlikely that you'll lose your 3 ETH.

Most of the time the chain is forked up to a certain block, so as long as you don't accidentally send your funds to the wrong chain during the transition period, you'll be fine.

You can look at what happened when Bitcoin split into Bitcoin + Bitcoin Cash, BTC holders retained their funds and earned an equivalent amount of BCH.

A similar setup will occur when ETH moves to POS.
