2061  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 30, 2016, 11:35:50 AM
Is the fact that this is the last trading work day of the year a factor?

Do some accounts need settling, is it a good time to take profit and not hold over to 2017?
2062  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 30, 2016, 11:27:12 AM
As expected still fighting with supply in that zone, careful with a potential h&s for people longing on margin.

It's happening...could be a retest of 0.012.

Not sure that will be the case.

What is interesting is that the inverse relationship between BTC's rise and fall and XMR's seems to have shifted.  In the late stages of the BTC rally we went up with BTC (instead of dropping) and now with the fall to sub 950, we too have dipped.  It's not the whole story of course, but the traditional hedge relationship seems to have been disrupted.

No price appreciation with this dip means my balance of XMR and BTC does not balance out as it used to.  On the rise I was thrilled to see both going up, but now if both go down, I have no hedge.  Seems alts such as ETH / ETC are getting the benefit of the flow out of BTC - so maybe I am not alone.

Have we lost our traditional hedge value and are we now tethered to BTC a little more, so we rise and fall with the BTC tides?

2063  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 28, 2016, 04:12:46 PM

I stand corrected.

Just Wisdom's feed.
2064  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 28, 2016, 04:11:15 PM

Bitcoinwisdom shows it flatlined for an hour at 6941.1.

So, maybe - yep. Haven't looked at the Huobi site.
2065  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 28, 2016, 01:00:34 PM
Volume is amazing - watching B'wisdom and it's been a million bucks in the past 30 minutes.

Pure price porn.

BTC AND XMR rallying simultaneously is just the best Christmas present Smiley
2066  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 24, 2016, 11:59:29 AM
Huobi 30 bucks ahead.  But then it ain't Christmas there....

Western exchanges can't have a lot of fiat coming in right now.
2067  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 24, 2016, 11:54:39 AM
anyone care to establish a rough estimate of how many hours from now the situation will remain critical?

23 hours and 59 minutes?

Close.... But I think a few more seconds.  Maybe up to a very round number?
2068  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 23, 2016, 10:06:52 AM
Great to see some of the old guard back here.

Honeybadger is giving everyone a nice Christmas present it seems...  Loving the rockets and gifs - it is indeed feeling like 2013 all over again.
2069  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 23, 2016, 09:22:01 AM

I love a good Barolo...  But the Amarone had to do Wink

Haven't actually tried the GUI yet as I am not at home, only on a laptop.

Will buy a Barolo this afternoon and toast it when it's up and running on my home Mac.

Well done to the devs, we're all grown up now and holding up amazingly with BTC over 900....

I love my XMR!
2070  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: December 22, 2016, 12:44:25 PM

2% real usage...?   Actually that's not bad.  Post GUI people may well feel a lot better about offering and receiving XMR, and once they see the speed, it can only be hoped the volume will grow.

REAL USE is crucial for a cryptocurrency. This is exactly that.  Whatever people think of dark markets, it's real use of XMR as money and will help to promote growth.
2071  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 22, 2016, 10:24:16 AM
possibly, some of the bigger whales may have decided to pull some of their cash off of the exchange,

Sounds as if you think whales keep the bulk of their coins parked on an exchange? With the propensity of pecuniary pilferers plundering principal, would that not be a particularly problematic proclivity?

Perfectly plausible probability...
2072  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 22, 2016, 10:04:27 AM
Another chart for Kurious.
This shows the price for BTC (dark line) and XMR (light line) between Nov 23 to Dec 22 on two hour interval - the data is from BTCWisdom and I have overlayed the prices to demonstrate my point.

And my point is that while on a day to day basis XMR is responding to BTC movements, over the longer term it is actually holding its value pretty well and far better than any other alts (although I'm open to correction).

Ha!  Thanks....  Good to see it!

I am watching of course - and also keeping an eye on the USD price, which is holding up well.   The urge to be in BTC ought to be strong, but not as much as I feared. In USD terms we are about where we were a week or so ago.

What will be interesting will be what happens from here. The BTC run is finally here so; it either keeps going up, sits at a new level, or comes back down.  People will take BTC profits, diversify from BTC somewhat, or bale out a little.

Some of this money will come to XMR.  It will be the slingshot some have already mentioned.

Also with a market frenzy, at some point investors will be looking for other 'contenders' for this kind of appreciation beyond BTC and it may also draw new money into crypto generally...

As long as we hold value as well as we seem to be so far, we are well placed.

All the festive best, Nano Smiley

As for China?  If ever a massive cohort of people needed untraceable and fungible money, it lives there.  If When they get it, we are nowhere near where where we will end up.

You misspelled "India."   Tongue

Bitcoin 2.0™

Fuck it...  Sub $10 is a joke.

Bitcoin is the multi-platinum chart-topping #1 smash hit of e-cash.

Monero is the exclusive white label dubplate 'Maximum Extropy' remix that is only popular in underground circles.

Regardless, all the "Bluh Bluh Bitcoin is dying BECAUSE MUH CRIPPLED 1MB FRAPPUCCINO" nonsense here is out of hand.

Don't the r/btc guys ever get tired of writing comically overwrought and inaccurate, factually challenged obituaries for Honey Badger?

Don't they ever get tired of looking silly and ridiculous as Honey Badger just keeps on doing whatever he wants (including breaking through $800 like a wet paper bag)?

Hmm...  India has negligible BTC volume yet, so one would expect China to beat them to it.  That said, I don't disagree they are in need of a way out of their cash notes being abolished with 4 hours notice.

As for BTC - I haven't said it is crippled, I hodl it too.   I think BTC has not handled 'scaling' well thus far - but I am not forecasting its demise.

Merry Christmas Icebreaker Smiley
2074  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 20, 2016, 11:43:37 PM
So I really want to buy into Monero, but BTC seems to keep slowly climbing today.
Anyone got predictions on where Bitcoin will top or Monero will bottom?

Bitcoin will top between $800 and $1000 for now

Monero 0.0105 and 0.008

 Tongue

But who knows...?

Frankly?  No one.

BTC just pipped over $800...  So place your buys lower and accumulate is the best advice.  XMR will keep its dollar value, so what's to lose?

Edited for sense
2075  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 20, 2016, 10:54:04 PM

lol i am mainly lurking but once in a while i drop a chart in here when i am bullish ;-)

chart is a bit messed up, already removed many lines and most of EW counts. howsoever I see a good chance to break out up from here and make a leg up to at least 0.0137. the risk reward is okay.

For longer term i see no reason why xmr shouldnt go way higher once china adopts xmr, what i guess will happen sooner or later. I also see a scenario where xmr goes down before up but i give it a way lower chance.

You have the Fib lines about right IMO and I liked the chart.

The elephant in the room is BTC though.  So we shall see.

As for China?  If ever a massive cohort of people needed untraceable and fungible money, it lives there.  If When they get it, we are nowhere near where where we will end up.

Snip...

....it just looks like a sinking ship and I want to get on the escape boat.....

Monero is resoundingly bouyant.  Welcome on board HMS Honeypony Smiley

Shocked

Loving the ping pong - enough volatility to hit a few of my sells and then drop a little so I can buy 'em back and accumulate MOAR!

XMR looking chipper though, Dotto - I trust you're well, Sir?

Fantastic, Kurious. A bit disconected from crypto this time, waiting for the big tide Wink

Hard to not feel connected for me. A bit of a screen / price ticker junkie I am sad to admit.  As for that big tide... Aren't we all? Smiley
2078  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 20, 2016, 05:32:26 PM
looking for break out up here Smiley

At last someone posts a chart. On a speculation thread.

Respect +1

EDIT: although resistance at around 0.0124 might be tough to crack....  But with a GUI that is well received... I hope it will fall easily

Dunno how you make profit on tiny 1% shifts, don't the fees swallow all that?

I don't trade 1% shifts!  No need...  XMR regularly fluctuates 5% and more - it's been as low as 0.01034 - 0.01109 in the past 24 hours - and up and down like a yoyo for weeks.

I can confirm that I also had two posts discussing segwit deleted from this thread on the 25th.  I wasn't even discouraging it, just trying to explain some of the opinions I've heard over on that other forum.  We will never be able to reach consensus if discussion is not allowed.
How about you start actually following the forum rules? You're discussing solutions on a technical basis which has nothing to do with this thread, nor this section (you should try to remain on-topic whenever possible, even when just posting images). I have tried keeping such discussion, regardless of whether positive or negative, and Segwit/BU/whatever out of this thread. At times, this thread feels like kindergarten.

Regarding the poll: I have removed it as it was really outdated. There is no way to add one as a moderator AFAIK (which is unfortunate since OP's account is inactive). I'll talk to the administrators to see whether there are any options to get this rolling.

Forgive me if I misunderstand, but may I ask why discussion of Segwit is not allowed?

Surely it does affect the future price of Bitcoin, which is a topic that I would have thought falls within the bounds of the 'price movement tracking & discussion' contained in the title of this thread.
