Our countrymen are not mentally matured to understand the nuances of this translation to hindi fad.

---
But in our country, the reason English is pushed as an official language is primarily because localized languages promote fascism - something that BJP and RSS are already doing too much. We (I) don't want to see more such drama.

LOL...You first blamed translation for segregation, now you blame it for Fascism..!! I don't know where you read your Sociology and Political Science on this but the established facts are that Fascism promotes single languages while every liberal ideology supports a diversity of mother-tongues.

You maybe against Hindi but this project is a multi-lingual one. A point you keep ignoring to stick conveniently to your own thought process. This is a mark of the typical Indian Left-liberal with his slave mentality. Your own countrymen are mentally immature to you because they cannot write the Sahib's language well. If somebody tries to help them by translation then it becomes "Language localization==>Segregation==>Fascism" for you.

I get it that its your strong political opinion that makes you go against something as useful as translation. You speak as if translations do not benefit anybody. Its your flawed viewpoint. Just go to the Indonesian/ Filipino sections to see the activity that translation can generate.

And well, No use arguing it further anyways. You are welcome to keep opposing translations in the name of Fascism.. Huh Huh

Thanks Swaystar.

I see that the painting is by your mother. Its pretty but I am not really in the collector league yet. I am actually looking to see if I can buy something with bitcoin that i can put to use for myself.
I understand there are service that will allow me to buy from amazon directly but I want to take a more p2p approach to see if its workable from the prespective of an Indian Bitcoin beginner.

Today it's a joke

Tomorrow is reality

Then you're cattle branded with a microchip

"Cattle branded with Microchip"

This was mostly science fiction at a time but is fast becoming a reaity. Corporations in their bid for profit and optimum use of "Human Resources" are going to apply these methods.
I once watched a Microsoft executive present their IoT solution for monitoring workforce and using Data Analytics on them. The idea was supposed to be implemented on the workforce in a huge container handling port. The proposed solution involved every worker wearing this radio-tag that would monitor and record their movements and upload coordinate data of every worker to a central server.

A manager could then analyse the data to determine work patterns of their crew by seeing how many and who deviated from the norm. The system would feed continuous coordinated of the crew. Voila..Forget about coffee breaks or going behind a container to smoke a few cigarettes with your fellows to relax..

The thing is that Govts and corporations are always looking for ways and means to ensure that the working class and middle class keep working their asses off for the elites. Banking regulations, Biometric records are just the beginning. Owning money that has inherent value and not because the Govt says it is the first step of ensuring that the masses always have a chance to fight back.

That is why we Bitcoin. Do You Bitcoin? Cool

Hello Marketers/ Sellers/ Buyers and Bitcoiners

This is my first post in the Markets Section. I have been into Bitcoin as a hobbyist for around an year now. I am from India and we have a very ambiguous crypto environment. The India section of the forum is almost dead because it is hard to find any of the old souls who have the kind of BTC to actually push-start a market there.

Most people are late-joiners like myself who have intent but nowhere to start. So here i am, asking for directions.

I feel that bitcoin makes most sense when you have a P2P market for goods and fiat both. In terms of Fiat we aren't doing bad but then people are using it only as an investment. I would like to try a use-case where we can actually buy things using BTC.

I am looking to buy some minor priced items/ computer peripheral from an established seller who deals into such things. I need someone who will take the pain to understand my intention and issues through PM. Indian customs is a pain in the ass as the red-tape can be unnerving. Yet, for the sake of p2p goods trading,  I know i have to do it myself.. Cool

Any Indian sellers out here, please give a heads up in the reply. If you are overseas but  willing to sell minor priced items in India as a test-case, please reply. I am talking maybe RAM/ Wall-socket with Power display/ Comics (Any McFarlane fans out there? Spawn Series?? I'd really like one).

Moderators, Please let me know if this topic needs to be in a different section.
2067  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency and banking apps targeted by new Android malware on: March 29, 2019, 04:23:53 AM
This is the part that i always get worried about as a partly tech-savvy user. For example, I understand the dont's:
1. Shouldn't download anything other than apps appearing on Google Play.
2. Don't click on random SMS links.

Now this part in the TNW article is scary:
Quote
The extent of Gustuff’s tricks is no joke. Push notifications featuring legitimate icons are said to appear. If they are clicked, either a web fake for the app is downloaded (in which a user could enter their sensitive data) or Gustuff will maliciously fill payment fields automatically to trigger illicit transactions at the server‘s command.

I have a few questions in this regard:

1. Can these "Push notifications" appear without you doing any of the two activites i listed above? If yes then how?
2. What kind of vetting process do apps "verfied" by Google Play go through. For example, A few days back, i installed some third party crypto-wallet on mobile (being offered by some ICO based company, CELER network i think, worked like crap so uninstalled). Now, what risk do i run considering that these apps aren't open-source?

I remember gmaxwell posting somewhere that it is best never to install any closed source applications when it comes to crypto-wallets.

2069  Local / India / Re: Is ThroughBit.com accepting INR deposit/withdrawal? on: March 25, 2019, 05:23:49 AM
No one in this forum uses ThroughBit !!?

I had used it in Nov 2017 but, I did not like it as there wrong orders processed on there site. Sometimes less Coins use to reflect on dashboard and other times more INR use to get withdrawn to send proper funds. I had reached out to their support but, they did assist properly so then I switched to Zebpay.

Currently, https://www.giottus.com/ [best for p2p] , https://coinswitch.co/ [NO KYC] , https://pocketbits.in/ are perfectly working in India.

Do you use the above 3 websites regularly? Can you post some experience and confirm some transactions you have personally done? (If its not a privacy issue). It'll be really helpful for everyone if you can confirm the usefulness of these sites and share some user experience.

That sort of thing is what the forum was supposed to be for. I'll gladly share some merit if you can provide some in-depth example of your experience with these sites.
2070  Local / India / Re: Help translate bitcoin.org into Hindi on: March 25, 2019, 05:20:01 AM

Problem : I can't read English.

PreExisting Conditions : I can already use a cellphone / pc / laptop where everything is in English.

Solution : Use GOOGLE CHROME AUTO TRANSLATE!

Seriously, just to protect your feet from getting dirty, do you need to cover the entire world with leather? or just cover your feet?

Localization of content leads to segregation - something I fundamentally oppose. Always.

You really just restated your original thought without acknowledging that you were unnecessarily raising an issue AGAINST Hindi particularly. Annnd you changed the goalpost claiming this "fundamental opposition to localization of content because it leads to segregation". Phew..Can't argue with an opinion now..But Helloo, What happened to "Unity in Diversity" and all that shit??

And to answer you; No, none of those people are any less Indian. Being Indian is not defined by any language but...

but how then transcribing a content to Hindi makes it consumable to the rest of the country that cannot distinguish between bari E and chhoti e ?
You are just ignoring that the translation project isn't just for Hindi but a lot of other Indian languages..Sooo..it does make it consumable for the rest of the country too..
Also, Do you realize that you are questioning the usefulness of what someone may just do voluntarily? Someone may find a Hindi/ Bengali/ Oriya/ Tamil translation useful. If I can do it and have the time to do it, I'll gladly contribute and so will others..

You have to appreciate the fact that everyone may not be "fundamentally opposed to translation"...LOL..Wink
2071  Local / India / Re: A really cool and ambitious project I found on: March 25, 2019, 05:03:31 AM
Hello there?

Are you new to the forum or new to crypto in general? Welcome in both cases. These shiny websites are nothing new when it comes to crypto. I couldn't find a link to their business paper or whitepaper to comment on the technology they are building on.

They don't seem to have a github repository for access to their code (open-source, permissionless blockchain sort of thing). I'd advise you to look around a bit more before getting super excited about anything in the crypto space. There is lot of vaporware doing the rounds. Many of these promises remain just promises.

You said that one could build their won store/ company using their GUI builder. Could you elaborate on that?
2072  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Crypto is an industry, not just a bunch of coins. on: March 13, 2019, 03:49:49 AM
Memorabilia is probably one of the strongest use cases as can be seen from the popularity of the coins auctioned here at the forum. The nature of blockchain lends itself nicely to memories. Advertising and online tipping seems to have a lot of potential too.

Another major sector is the financial and insurance products.
A trend i am noticing is that bitcoin related products aren't yet very visible while ETH/ Alternate chains based products are starting to get serious in their development and the attention they are getting.

Personally, I am interested in seeing how the mining sector will evolve and whether we can still have a system of home based miners providing chain security. This seems settled as far as Bitcoin is concerned but for alternate chains, the market is still open.

2073  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 2008 financial crisis with bitcoin? on: February 28, 2019, 02:56:12 PM
So having bitcoin as a currency without any fiat wouldn't have changed the fate. No matter what currency system we have, this had to happen!

The reason you gave for financial crisis is succinct and correct. I disagree on the point that if Bitcoin had replaced Fiat and particularly replaced USD as the Reserve currency, even then the crisis would have taken the same shape.

The so called financial watchdogs of US were supposed to call out the malpractices while they were happening. They took the "too-big-to-fail" approach for heavyweight investment banks/ insurers and did not intervene timely.  This approach is a direct result of the ability of these "watchdogs" to tide over any such screw-ups by simply printing more money. Quantitative Easing, they called it.

In a world where Bitcoin would be the reserve currency, such adventurism with people's money and savings would simply not be possible. Hence, the financial crisis and the ripple effect that Inflation due to pumping of more money has on the working class wouldn't have been so severe.

Don’t get offended about anybody else distrusting you though. I have about 20 assholes distrusting me just because I have Lauda in my trust list.
Same here. I was thinking I should try PM some of them to talk sense with them. Retaliatory trust doing its thing.
2075  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 2008 financial crisis with bitcoin? on: February 25, 2019, 05:44:43 PM
The OP has asked about a situation where Fiat has been completely replaced by Bitcoin.

Financial Crisis happen because the Federal Reserve is free to print as much USD as they want. USD is the world's reserve currency and there is no limit on how much of it can be printed. In a world where Fiat has been replaced by Bitcoin, the effects of having a limited, deflationary supply would be evident.
Financing institutions would not be free to disburse subprime mortgages. The insurance companies backing them would not be free to show reserves on books to back that money with "documents". The financial Engineers would not be free to, in turn, use these loans as backing commodities to further sell "financial products".

These possiblities of Fiat Fractional reserve banking would ideally be non-existent with Bitcoin and a crisis like 2008 wouldn't ever start.

Or at least that was the plan. With exchanges now jumping in and asset managers making bitcoin another commodity, the day of fractional banking with bitcoin may arise soon. That is something we all should be wary of.
2076  Local / India / Re: Help translate bitcoin.org into Hindi on: February 25, 2019, 04:57:48 PM
...translate bitcoin.org into Hindi ..

Why just hindi?

Why not : Bengali, Gujrati, Malaylam, Tamil, Kannada, Koshur, Assamese, Meitei & Kukichin (Manipuri), Lushai (Mizo), Nagamese and a host of Arunachal Languages like - Mongpa, Adi, Apatani, Nishi, Nocte.. ?
Are these people less Indian ?

--snip--
You really are over-doing the Hindi bashing here. Its quite unnecessary. Did you even care to check before posting this response about "Why just Hindi?"

I am no staunch Hindi-supremacist because it makes no sense. Yet i find it quite unbecoming of people to question anything and everything Hindi related just because they view it as some sort of external menace. Please visit this page: https://www.transifex.com/bitcoinorg/bitcoinorg/dashboard/
You can check and find Marathi, Tamil, Bengali and a host of other Indian languages under the translation projects.

And to answer you; No, none of those people are any less Indian. Being Indian is not defined by any language but this linguistic rhetoric is quite unnecessary. I agree on your previous link that the Whitepaper translations are a waste. Yet, Hindi is indeed a language that has its footprints all over our country and is one of the recognizable, marketable aspects of our country. All languages should be respected, including, much to a lot of people's chagrin, Hindi.
2077  Local / India / Re: Project Translations in Hindi are a waste of money! on: February 25, 2019, 04:34:12 PM
I am a native Hindi speaker and I completely agree to this.

Most of the so called "Hindi Translators" are in fact doing a word to word google translation. The translations make no sense to someone who will read it purely in Hindi, Like apporvlathey pointed out above. The message is lost as it cannot be conveyed simply by a dictionary translation of words.

I would have been happy to see some genuine translations that actually try to convey the meaning. This would have created a healthy body of translated works that could have been of some use later on. This is just not happening as no respect is shown to the content and no effort is made to suit it to the language.

Hello Moglie. I am applying for the open Full Member spot declared by you. The legend for "Banned" in the spreadsheet should probably be moved right beneath the others. Right now it looks like Pixie85 is "banned" and a Senior Member spot is up for grabs.. Shocked

There has been a dearth of good campaigns lately and Sr. Members are quick to get unnecessarily hopeful..
2080  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Crypto mass adoption of crypto stabalize the prices? on: February 23, 2019, 04:46:59 PM
If we look at the alt-coin market, coins that have seen stable development and been here for sometime do not see much movement in price. The only time that the better alts see wild variations is when there is FOMO for Bitcoin.

As far as the alts that keep getting announced in alt-coin sections with their telegram channels, plagiarized whitepapers and template based websites, the only reason they exist is to make the clever web designers rich. They are pump and dump schemes with everyone waiting to dump at their target price (2X, 10X, 100X). Mass adoption will not help the price fluctuations for most of these alts because they are scams created for the sole purpose of pumps and dumps.

Where bitcoin prices are concerned, mass adoption will only mean that the price will go up. There is no central authority to peg the value to come to an agreement on the price. (Like, for example, the London Gold Fixing for Gold Prices). In its absence, the price only goes up with adoption and people/ institutions FOMOing to buy in. The constant development, miner support and security of the network are major trigger factors for the price to break out. Whenever one of these things come on positive or negative focus, bitcoin price starts its movements in that direction. The one certain thing is that these prices aren't stabilizing anytime soon. In that case, you gotta go by the  golden rule of crypto. 1BTC = 1 BTC (always)
