2061  Economy / Economics / Greece mulls Euro exit on: May 15, 2012, 07:20:33 AM
Some serious players are now publicly talking about what some of us knew was inevitable from the beggining. If ever there was a time to push bitcoin hard on the Greeks now is the time. There is already talk of capital controls, bank runs, reintroduction of the Drachma which will be immediately devalued by as much as 50%. They estimate inflation will also be 50%. Sounds a lot like Zimbabwe 10 years ago.

I suggest we start a bounty and commission a translation of the bitcoin client into the Greek language.

Is there a way to use bitcoin to pay for Adult Friend Finder subscription?

Is that site worth anything? I mean are there real people there?

I heard that most "adult" dating sites are scams with mostly fake woman profiles put there by the management of the site to lure man into paying and then when you sign-up and pay you realize there are very little real people there, its just all fakes to make you think the site is big?

Indeed, a lot of the profiles and initial messages you get from hot women are fake and are just there to make you think with your penis and pay. However, you should check out the groups and the forums. You can easily tell who the real people are. Also, it's not such an issue for me. I'm in the Far East so I always laugh when some blonde with the screenname "SouthernBelle" pops up on my screen and tries to convince me she's in my city & I could fuck her, but inly if I pay the reg fee.

But AFF is the most legit of these types of sites. And it's useful for a lot of countries and is available in many languages. While most others don't have enough members to be useful outside USA/CAN/UK.

2068  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Iran and SWIFT on: March 16, 2012, 10:47:30 AM
"SWIFT is a banking hub crucial to oil, financial transactions and other trades and global financial transactions are impossible to conduct without using it."

...oh yeah? Wanna bet? I must say I've completed some global financial transactions using nothing but Bitcoin Smiley I feel bad for all these countries living with antiquated financial technology.

Because of its reach, SWIFT's decision to cut off some 30 Iranian banks and subsidiaries could hinder not only banking but also the country's lucrative crude oil industry and possibly hurt Iranian households that depend on remittances from relatives living abroad.

If I were an Irani living outside of Iran with family back home, coupled with knowing about Bitcoin, I would start now and educate my family about Bitcoin. I would have them tell others, then have those people tell others, etc., thereby opening up a free market of sorts in their soon to be cash strapped country.

Are there any Iranis on this forum who can shed light on this subject?

I know many Iranians and I've told one close iranian friend about it. However, I don't really see how it would be helpful to them seeing as it is not widely accepted yet. In the future, maybe but that is hardly convincing to someone in a country whose economy is under seige. It needs to provide utility now. Question is how?

Thanks for the quick response. I have a follow up question:

1. export all your private keys

How?

3. import your keys there

And how?
2071  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / How to recover wallet backup without downloading whole block chain on: March 15, 2012, 09:12:49 AM
Hi,

I have a backup with coins in it that I need but rescanning the block chain is taking ages and is going at snails pace right now. Is there a way (alt client maybe?) to recover these coins without having to wait for the entire block chain?

Thanks
2072  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Decryption on my own encrypted wallet.dat file? on: March 15, 2012, 01:07:48 AM
No idea for me. I've used BT since the first edition (beta) and I didn't see anything specifically for cracking bitcoin wallets.

It doesn't have to be for bitcoin wallets specifically but anything that has a high likelihood of working.

It would be awesome if it goes through.
2074  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Decryption on my own encrypted wallet.dat file? on: March 13, 2012, 11:37:55 AM
I have the same issue. I remember most of the password. It's just one or two characters that are off. Anyone else found a solution?

download your self a copy of backtrack 5. There are some good brute force password manipulators in there. It will give you a list of all possibilities. You just have to try them out.

I believe BT5 doesn't include this specific bruteforcer.
That said, use the pywallet script and run it with a batch file including a list of the passwords you wanted to test. That'll speed up the process.

Ok, then if memory serves me right. BT3 should have it.

May I know the name of the tool? I am on a low bandwidth connection for the time being so I cannot download BT3, I only have BT5 already installed.

2076  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Forgotten Bitcoin passphrase on: March 12, 2012, 11:20:34 AM
If your wallet is encrypted, and you lost or forgot the passphrase, then there is no recovery of the Bitcoins available; they are gone!

Since 90% of the concern is Internet hackers and intruders, not people with physical access to your pc, it would be best when you re-create your wallet that you write down the passphrase and store it in several places. Or just not encrypt the wallet.

Before getting started, close Bitcoin. This means making sure it is not running in the system tray or hidden either.

To delete the wallet (and lose all bitcoins in it forever), you need to manually explore to the Bitcoin data directory and remove the file wallet.dat. On a Windows PC, you can open Windows Explorer, and type %APPDATA%\Bitcoin into the location bar to change to the Bitcoin data directory. Once there, look for the file wallet.dat (it may just say "wallet" if you have hidden file extensions), and rename it to something like wallet-forgottenpassword. Restart Bitcoin and it will create a new wallet file.

What if you have forgotten the exact password (as in the exact spelling) but you still remember roughly what it was? Is there some program which you can feed this data into and it will crack the password.

Please, any help will be appreciated.
2077  Other / Off-topic / Re: Happy Leap Day Bitcoin ! on: March 01, 2012, 06:58:02 PM
yay for leap day! good thing the earth has a screwy yearly cycle

Earth's orbiting cycle is nearly perfect. It's the calendar makers that were screwy.

No it's not. It takes an extra quarter day to orbit the sun. That's why the calendars are screwy. The seasons might play a part too.

Roger Im in the "friends of the free state project" because I cant get there in person. Free Talk Live bbs is where I first heard about bitcoin.

I also first heard about Bitcoins on freetalklive.com

That's a good show.
