20721  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 110v miners w/ multiple rigs....how do you do it? on: March 18, 2018, 01:39:02 AM
My first comment.  Listen to Phillip.  He know's what he is talking about.

I wouldn't have felt comfortable re-arranging my breaker box, installing 30A breakers, running the wiring, and installing the outlets myself.  I have a friend who is an electrician, so I paid him to do it.  I had two 30A outlets installed in my mining room.  They were short runs, so only ended up having to get 50' of romex.  For two outlets, the materials shouldn't cost more than $200 or so.  The L6 recepticals are around 20-25 each.  50ft of 10-3 romex was $75.  The 30A breakers he already had and didn't charge me any extra for.  There are some other odds and ends that you'll need.

I ended up paying him $100 for the labor and around $150-$175 for the materials.

Nice price for that amount of work you have a good friend

Like this title says..

I currently have a 12 1080 ti rig running from an 12 gauge extension cord (2 1200w bitmain psu to power 12 gpu's and a 1050w psu to power mb and risers.  The extension wire do get a little warm.  I also have another 6 1080 rig which i put it upstair (afraid ill trip my 20 amp fuse). My real question is....how do you manage to run multiple rigs without re-doing all your house wires?

The fix  for your problem is run  6 card 1080ti rigs with  10 gauge  cords

https://www.ebay.com/itm/10-10-Gauge-Black-Heavy-Duty-Extension-Cord-MADE-IN-USA/122625387190?

So I’ve decided to hire an electrician to come wire me some 220’s.  I’m thinking 2 100 amp outlet (If possible since I live in ny and I’m hoping these old houses can handle that much power).  Anyway, What do you guys do for extension cords since most pdu I see are 30 amps only....how do you guys do it?

Do three 30 amp

A 30 amp will do 4 s9

Or 4 six card rigs of 1080tis

Thank you!  This is the type of answer I was looking for (in plain dumb english).

I'm planning to run 3 13 card board (B250 board) and possibly upgrading to 19 on each board if I can ever get my hands on those....I read it somewhere that 30 amp should be good for 5000w so I guess 3 30 amp is probably my best bet right?

Again, thanks for the answer guys!

Jeff-
30 derates to 24 to be safe for a 24-7-365 run time

220 can be 217 to 242 volts in USA residential

So 217 x 24 = 5200 watts. Minimum

If you are near a hot transformer with no drop

I am and I run 239- 242 volts

Or 240 x 24 = 5760 watts. I have been able to run at 5500 watts year round

Bitmain is splitting part of its business to Washington State......

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3g726QtaM0

Appears to be setting up something in the Walla Walla area - which does NOT have super-low electric rates, poor choice of location IMO.
Can't check the business registration with the State of Washington right now as their system is down for upgrades 'till Monday - but 3'd party sites show the Ant Creek LLC being registered by Jihan (might be a different one, but what are the odds?).

Dual location in the state of Washington could allow for cheaper rate

20725  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Has Bitcoin mining ever been so unprofitable? on: March 17, 2018, 10:09:53 PM
Why are there so many stupid posts like this on this forum?

Ignorant people that jumped into this during the most inflated profitability cycle the industry has ever seen are now crying and whining that they arent overnight millionaires....

I'd say "one OF the most inflated cycles", not "the most".
But the point is still valid.

If you scale by dollar it was the biggest jump ever.

900 in jan 2017 to 19000 in dec 2017 + 1500 for dch

900 to 20500 is a 22.77 x 1 increase   but a 19600 dollar increase

I have seen 6 to 240 that is a 40 to 1 jump. but only 234 dollars
20726  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Has Bitcoin mining ever been so unprofitable? on: March 17, 2018, 08:34:24 PM
The problem with that concept is that there is NO OVERCAPACITY in Bitcoin mining gear...

There clearly is overcapacity. That is why these miners are not selling. Breakeven used to be less than half the time dude and profitability was far higher. U now have to mine above the warranty period to break even. I have a friend mining in china and there are other cost such as building, maintenance, staff and reliability of electricity. It isnt just low electricity. It is also harder for them to find low electricity rates these days.

Dude, bitcoin difficulty has increased alot more than bitcoin price and there are tons of unsold asics unlike the past where it is out of stock. U can now get miners in 2 weeks and not 3 months....wat u mean by they cant get enough capacity? If people wanted more capacity, they can easily buy and push the delivery date 1-2 months out. That happened in the past, not now.

If u are referring to gpu, yes, there is a shortage but not asics. Holding bitcoin makes a lot more than buying.

(Moderator's note: This post was edited by frodocooper to trim the quote from QuintLeo.)

All depends on when you track from.

from a year ago today  diff has jumped about 15-20% less then price.

So if you are based on march 17 2017 to march 18 2018  you are better off today.

but if you count from dec 2017 to now you are worse off.

I can tell you the months of nov and dec 2017  were god like and basing your profits on that set of numbers is really not realistic at all.

but I am sure when I say that you are better off today then anytime from Jan 1 2017 to April 1 2017 I fall on deaf ears.

20728  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Poll for using "ROI" versus "CR" (Capital Recovery) on: March 17, 2018, 06:15:01 PM
My vote I just like clicking buttons.

I gave you a merit point for the poll.

As the first thread was really dumb or clever (if he was just playing around)

Your poll is  funny thanks for  a smile.

and yeah I know  you did the first thread.

20729  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Please stop using "ROI" when you mean Capital Recovery. it makes you sound dumb. on: March 17, 2018, 06:11:50 PM
No, trying to be an internet professor is dumb.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1991180.0

I love Willy Wonka... but dismissing it as not important makes you ignorant.

you did a good job in explaining the differences between CR and ROI, maybe you should have stopped there.

However, you call people dumb and ignorant for using ROI in place of CR (which is just slang), and then you use "hodling" which is just slang for holding.

so your slang doesn't make you sound dumb but others using slang makes them sound dumb?

Maybe.. it is time to get off your soap box..

damn  he really did this.

maybe it was a joke  or tongue in cheek.
20730  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bminer: a fast Equihash miner for CUDA GPUs (5.5.0) on: March 17, 2018, 01:12:55 PM
Now I flipped  pc's

and bminer did better on both pc's

not much but better.  say 2.4% more payment from nicehash  8.83 for bminer vs  8.62 for dstm

next week I will do power tests

same meter  on each machine  10 minute test  should show between 330 watts to 410 watts

Maybe I will post it on thurs.

so  if bminer uses 2 or 3 % more power it is still better. if it uses  20%  it is not better.

based on temp and fan readings  it will be around 1-4% more power for bminer

20731  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Considering developing a 6 GPU Riser/Backplane, thoughts? on: March 17, 2018, 01:04:48 PM
3 slots is not enough space for cooling.
Advanced GPUs all use 2.5 - 3 slots of space so it would only work for blower style cooling solutions.
With a spacing 4 - 6 slots and some provisions for compartmentalizing the GPUs so exhaust air is not cross-fed, it will be much more useful.
Cooling is the big problem to solve and a solution that takes this into account will be worth more on the market.

HansHagberg

okay  spacing spacing spacing.

go big or go home.

3 or 3.5 slot spacing

the 16 card board is nice  but requires special cooling.

a 12 card board  with room would have been nice

same for you a six card with space would be nice

BAIKAL X10 is earning $12.95 / Day ... costs $4000.. good Joke

Buy $4000 worth of graphic cards today and see how profitable they are...

a 1080ti earns 1.65 - 2.00  a day

the difference is it has value for a gamer.

if you are luck you can get 5 for 4000 grand

which is  8.25 to 10.00 a day

one more huge up for 5x gpus is forks will crush all new asics.

That should increase value of gpus and brick  the new asics.

We are  watching a war bro evil   asics vs  good gpus

not that I think one is evil and one is good.

but

90 day shit warranty for asic = evil
3 year good warranty for  gpu = good

I have 18k to 20k of 'free' power

I can lose money 2 ways
 dead gear
too much gear past that 18-20k

20734  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nicehash miner and 2 GPUs not performing as expected on: March 17, 2018, 11:52:00 AM
OK. So I checked again this morning. GPU2 is only running at about 55% when viewing the AfterBurner software. GPU1 is running at 70% which I expect as that's the TDP I have set. Why is GPU2 not running to 70%?

there is an option  in settings to use nicehash  to override any

i fan controls and tdp

look for it and make sure it is off.

then your msi settings will stick.

What is your psu?

Try running any two boards if they work a day in a row.

Try another combo of any two boards

If they work a day in a row.

My guess would be a weak psu.

will be interesting to see the moves getting done in the next 2 months in the war of asics vs gpus

Just remember

Asics = shit warranties from chinese companies

gpus = real warranties from companies like evga

and you 110% tdp miners stop already  although I am sure you will go to 115%

I heard menero is forking to monerov which will use a new algo. does this mean 2018 is the death of the crytponight algo and lower AMD prices?

The Pow algorithm will change slightly every 6 months. So I expect the GPU can still use that.

Which algo is monero switching to? It just says to be changed and doesn't say

they should:

say  the algo and let an asic get started really fast?

or use any developer other then claymore (too rich to trust) to issue new software to mine a new algo?

your choice bro

What calculation formula should I use to calculate mining profit for various algorithms? X11, Neoscrypt, CryptoNight and all others? Or that formula is the same for all algos. Whattomine and other profit calculators I know.

it is accurate for 1 diff jump into the future.

No profit calculator works beyond a few diff jumps and price changes
