India - Australia
The match will start in one hour. And today I think Australia will try to its best to equal the series. By the way in the previous match Australia didn't go up from 300 runs. And India chased the target with 5 wickets lost. Australia gave them a tough time and today if again Australia will play first turn and will make 300+ runs so, for India this will be big target and will difficult to chase. Let's see what will happen? Smiley

Australia did a decent job in the first match. They got to a decent total and were mostly in control while bowling. But the partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul took the game away from them. I am not sure whether they should continue with Marcus Stoinis as an opening bowler. He maybe suitable for that role in SENA conditions. But in Indian pitches, his medium pace leaks a lot of runs. Same with Cameron Green as well. For Indian conditions, they need to depend more on bowlers like Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood.

Sreesanth?

Zaheer Khan was the highest wicket taker in the 2011 WC for India, followed by Yuvraj. Sreesanth came in 3rd and he was wicketless in the finals, also didn't even play in the semis.

It was Yuvraj's brilliance with the bat and ball. Zaheer as a strike bowler, Gambhir with his crucial match-winning innings and finishing touch of Dhoni.

Yeah.. just checked the scorecard and realized that he didn't played in QF and SF matches. I might have got confused with some other tournament. The pace attack for 2011 tournament was led by Zaheer Khan, with Ashish Nehra and Munaf Patel backing him up. These bowlers were quite efficient and Sreesanth got a chance only when one of them got injured. BTW, this was perhaps the only major ICC tournament where three of Australia's fastest bowlers bowled together - Brett Lee, Shaun Tait and Mitchell Johnson.

I keep hearing that this or that country is not great in football because they don't have enough money.

In reality, there are examples of countries that are great in football and are very poor, Brazil being the most extreme case. Many of the players in Brazil grew up playing football without shoes, and even without food some days. Still, Brazil is the most successful country in the World Cup history.

Most South American teams share a similar story.

So, there is the proof that you don't need money to be the best in football

I am not sure about this. Brazil is a relatively prosperous nation, at least when compared to Asian and African nations. But it is true that there are quite a few informal settlements in Brazil (known as Favelas, with a total population of close to 11-12 million spread across 6,000+ localities), where the living standards are too low. But these sort of ghettoes can be found even in developed nations such as the United States and France. That doesn't mean that those who live there face too many obstacles in developing their game.

I usually have access to all the sports channels as i use IPTV to watch the matches. So which channel of Star Sports is telecasting this series (Star Sports 1, 2, 3, 4 or Star Sports Hindi) ?

The final will be love on Star Sports 1 and Star Sports 1 HD. You can also watch it live on Fancode. The match will start tomorrow at 4:30am IST, so for Asian viewers, the time is not that convenient. Also, Monday is a working day. This time the organizers didn't gave much attention to the Indian fans, although a large part of the revenue originates from here. Anyway, nowadays there are too many franchise T20 leagues ongoing around the world and therefore they can't get overdependent on the Indian audience as well.

We want new team in cricket and that team will be competitive, but the popularity of cricket is increasing day by day, different countries including Canada, Saudi Arabia and America are now very interested in cricket, so if new teams are given a chance then cricket will become a popular game like football.

In cricket every year we see 10 to 12 countries participate in world cup tournament or other tournaments and if a child is asked, that child will easily name 10 to 12 teams because those teams are known to everyone and out of those teams which team is there. Kinds can't represent in big tournaments. If ICC takes action then surely new teams will join the cricket and they will do well, now only one step is left.

First of all, the ICC is least bothered about the expansion of the game. Once Jagmohan Dalmiya was replaced with N Srinivasan-Sharad Pawar mafia at the BCCI/ICC, they have actually tried to kill cricket in associate nations. But that said, I don't agree with your list. Cricket is not that popular in Canada, USA and Saudi Arabia. There are hardly any natives playing the sport and it is mostly played by expats. On the other hand, there are associate nations where the locals are interested in playing cricket. Examples are Nepal, Maldives, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

In the India Women vs Bangladesh Women team match, Bangladesh Women team came out to bat first. They gave a target of 51 runs in 17.5 overs. Bangladesh Women team batsmen were all out for which Bangladesh Women team could not give a target of more runs. India Women team made this run very easily.  Overcoming the match was a victory. I was very happy to see the performance of India Women team in this match. I was supporting India Women team in this match.

Will be interesting to see who will be their opponents in the final match. The second semi is between Sri Lanka and Pakistan (the associate nations got a rough deal, as they got disqualified for the semis after the QF matches were washed out). Anyway, there is zero chance that either Sri Lanka or Pakistan may win the gold medal. India is a level above them, especially after the BCCI started Women's Premier League. Their comprehensive win against Bangladesh yesterday just showcases the skill differences between India and the other teams.

Why is there speculation like this on the part of Al Ahli, defeat is still defeat even though arguments like that cannot restore the situation. There are still many matches left and Al Ahli in these matches showed less than optimal play. Whether the referee decision is considered one-sided or not, the referee remains the judge on the field. I'm sure the Al Ahli players admit that Al Nassr current performance is above them. The opportunity in the SPL is still quite open and it is possible that in the next match against Al Ettifaq we can get full points.

It was good to see both Cristiano Ronaldo and Talisca working together to defeat the challenge from Al Ahli. But at the same time, Al Ahli put up a spirited performance as well. Franck Kessié scored their first goal in 30th minute, to take them to 1-2. But by half-time, Al Nassr was leading by 3-1 and then the second goal from Ronaldo made it 4-2 (Riyad Mahrez scored second one for Al Ahli). Firas Al-Buraikan made it 4-3 and after that Al Ahli was trying desperately for the equalizer, but then they couldn't breach the Al Nassr defenses.

Spoiler alert, Virat Kohli was a team member and played in the finals of 2011 ODI World Cup final when India won the entire tournament. There is no debate about the consistency of Virat Kohli in any format, the only issue i have with him is not winning the IPL playing for Bangalore even with one of the best players they have in their side. If you really think Kohli is 90% mind games who are the players you think are better than him during his generation.

I was saying that Kohli didn't contributed much to India winning the world cup in 2011. It was Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Sreesanth who gave the world cup to India after such a big gap. No matter how much Kohli and his proxies like Hardik and Rohit tried during their respective captaincies, they could never achieve what Dhoni achieved. Anyway, now these two (Virat and Rohit) are approaching their retirement age. it is now or never. 2023 ODI World Cup probably represents the last opportunity for them to win a major ICC trophy.

There is even more drama surrounding the SoFi Stadium as one of the venues for 2026 World Cup. This particular stadium in Los Angeles is considered as the most expensive sports facility in the world, and it cost some $5.5 billion for constructing it. SoFi stadium was opened for the first time back in September 2020. However news reports indicate that the owners (Kroenke Sports and Entertainment) and not happy with their revenue-sharing agreement with FIFA and are now threatening to pull out of the tournament. but they way Ireland played is quit impressive and have ability to bounce back in last match.

I really like the way they tried to chase this big score of 334 runs and were short only by 48 runs. Being the underdog team, this batting performance was too good for me. Although none of the players scored a 50 in this match from Ireland but the good thing is that everyone contributed to reach close to 300 runs. Players who came down the innings like George Dockrell , Barry McCarthy and Craig Young , all contributed good 40+ runs and helped their team reach close to the target given by the England team.

Remember the first ODI was abandoned by rain, this one England won. I hope to see another thrilling ODI between the two teams on 26 September at Bristol.

A few good knocks from the tailenders and lower order doesn't take away the fact that Irish top and middle order is out of form. I don't even remember when was the last time their star batsmen like Andy Balbirnie and Paul Stirling scored runs. Even the younger players such as Harry Tector and Curtis Campher are also out of form. Lorcan Tucker was performing well in the CPL, but he failed during yesterday's match. All Ireland got was a decent total in the end, thanks to Barry McCarthy, Craig Young and Josh Little towards the end.

I have been watching the score for this series on cricinfo but could not find these matches live coverage on any TV Channel.

Can you tell on which TV channel you are viewing this series?

I have been watching the Caribbean Premier League on Fancode App, which is covering the matches live in India. Apart from Fancode, Star Sports is telecasting the matches live on TV within India.

Today we have the two semi finals for the Asian Games Women's Cricket Competition. The first one is already in progress where Bangladesh are struggling with 7 wickets down and the score is only 34 runs. India will surely win this Semi-final.
The other semi-final between Pakistan Women and Srilankan Women will be played later today.

Bangladesh bowled out for 52 after 17.5 overs. This is going to be another cakewalk for India. Nigar Sultana, with her 12 was the only batter to score in double digits. The Indian bowlers were exceptional. Pooja Vastrakar got 4 wickets, while Titas Sadhu was exceptional in her opening spell. In around 3 hours from now, the second semi-final will be played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Cricket administration is making unfair demands, perhaps in order to get their bid rejected by the IOC.
ICC for the longest period was not interested in applying for a spot in the Olympics, if they submitted any proposals then they wanted to have some sort of representation, if not they will not bother sending an application to get rejected to begin with as it does not make any sense. In Asian Games, Cricket is included recently but only Women's team is participating as far as i understand.

As far as Asian Games is concerned, cricket was first included back in 2010. But then the BCCI as well as the PCB was vehemently opposed to its inclusion, and refused to send the teams. The same happened in 2014 as well. India is sending their cricket team for the first time in 2014. Even when cricket was included for the first time in Commonwealth Games (1998), there was a lot of opposition from the ICC. In the end, the ICC managed to reduce the competition to women's only, and that too for just 8 nations.
2093  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: September 23, 2023, 07:03:14 PM
If cricket is included in Olympics then the popularity of cricket will go to another level. For a long time, a question has been coming to our mind that even though all sports are in Olympics, why not cricket. Why Cricket World Cup is held with only 10 teams while Football World Cup is held with more than 30 countries. If some countries including India and England try as well as if ICC gives support then definitely cricket will be included in Olympics. Cricket is very popular in Asia but football as a whole is very popular.
When cricket is added to the Olympics, many European countries will participate in the Olympics with their own teams, so for the sake of cricket, cricket must be added to the Olympics.

I am not sure whether it will have any impact on the popularity of cricket. The ICC was suggesting a 5-team competition for the Olympic cricket tournament, to be played by the top-5 teams as per the ICC T20I rankings. There will be no qualifier tournament and I am sure that the IOC will not agree to such insane demands. More popular sports bodies such as FIFA and FIH allow their teams to participate in the Olympics as per the Olympic rules. Cricket administration is making unfair demands, perhaps in order to get their bid rejected by the IOC.
2094  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: September 23, 2023, 06:58:26 PM
There is 55 runs partnership between Craig Young and Josh Little and this is highest 10th wicket partnership for Ireland. England gave a target of 335 runs and Ireland have done well to conclude there innings by scoring 286 runs. Interestingly Ireland have lost 8 wickets for 188 runs and last two wickets scored 98 runs. Overall its a satisfactory performance from Ireland side.

It is not satisfactory as long as they can't win matches against other full member nations. Today's match was close, but still they lost to England at the end. When was the last time they won an ODI against a strong team? And remember that they were playing against a second string England squad. If they can't win against a second string squad, then what is the justification for retaining their test status? Why can't Ireland made to compete against other stronger associate nations such as Scotland, Netherlands, Nepal and Namibia?

Within less than three months, we will get to know whether cricket will be included for the 2028 Olympics or not. IOC members will vote during the meeting in Mumbai, which is scheduled for 15th October, to decide on the different sports disciplines that need to be included. Apart from cricket, other sports that are being considered includes: breakdancing, flag football, motorsport, lacrosse, squash, karate and baseball-softball. BTW, India is bidding to host the Olympics in 2036, and there is a good chance that cricket maybe included if they wins the bid.

Anyone following the Caribbean Premier League? Final match will be played tomorrow, between Trinbago Knight Riders and Guyana Amazon Warriors. TKR have heavyweights such as Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Martin Guptill playing for them. Guyana is mostly dependent on Dwaine Pretorius for bowling and Shai Hope for batting. Both the champions and runners up from last year's tournament failed to qualify for the final this time (Jamaica Tallawahs and Barbados Royals respectively).

India is a team that always performs well on home ground. There strength is there batting and they have wickets that are pro-batting. India recent performance in Asia cup also prove that they are way ahead of Pak, SL and Bangladesh. Kohli was part of Indian squad that won 2011 ODI world cup but he was not that much popular at that time as he was today.

I remember the 2011 tournament. It was Yuvraj Singh, who won the trophy for India. India needed 275 to win against Sri Lanka, and Gautam Gambhir's 97 and an unbeaten 91 from Mahendra Singh Dhoni guided India to an easy win. During the tournament, Yuvraj picked up 15 wickets, and scored a total of 362 runs (including 21 not out in the final match). Kohli was also there, but his contribution in the final was a 49-ball 35. And I guess that was the last time that India won a major ICC tournament. It has been more than 12 years now.
2098  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ICC WORLD CUP 2023 ACTUAL DISCUSSION THREAD! on: September 23, 2023, 02:19:47 PM
PS : Only Test ranking matters in cricket. T-20/ODI rankings are jokes.

I agree with this. Useless bilaterals have destroyed the meaning of ODI and T20I cricket.

I would say that the Indian team has gained a major psychological advancement before the World Cup. Cricket has been a game of mind and skills, you cannot deny how it affects the mind of an Indian fan when India plays against Pakistan. Some of what same mind influence happens when players play against each other, one of the best examples is Kohli and how he has been playing this mind game so effectively.

The problem is that while doing all these "mind-games", Kohli sometimes behaves like a baboon. Cricket is like 90% skills and 10% mind-games. Jokers like Kohli want it to be 90% mind-games and 10% skills. And no matter how much "psychological advancement" they gain before the world cup, I don't think that India is going to win the trophy as long as Kohli is in the team. He is the eternal panauti for the Indian national team. India will have a better chance once he retires. And Kohli will be known as the player who has never won a major ICC tournament for India.

England ended up at 334/8, which is a bit on the lower side when compared to the position they were after 32 overs. Josh Little was expensive today as well, and conceded more than 8 runs per over in this match as well. Craig Young was their best bowler, but the stupid Irish captain used him for only 7 overs. Their second best bowler was George Dockrell, who bowled just 8 overs. On the other hand, those who were wayward such as Josh Little and Barry McCarthy were allowed to complete their full quota of overs. I don't understand the strategy from Irish captain.

I also believe Nagelsman can make Germany a strong team again. Although it won't happen in a short time like to appear perfect at UEFA EURO 2024. He still needs time to adapt and find tactics and formations that suit the squad that Germany has. But I believe Nagelsman is a good coach for the German squad and I hope to give him enough time at least until the next world cup.

Julian Nagelsmann is a very talented manager, but what he can do when there is not enough young talent emerging through the ranks? Replacing retired players has been an issue with Central and Eastern European teams for some time. Putting pressure on the coach is not going to resolve this issue. The German football federation needs to look in to grassroots, and examine why the quality of play is on the decline. Or it maybe due to the fact that third world nations are getting elevated to the level of Germany and other European teams.
