2101  Other / Meta / Re: Merit broke my life on: January 31, 2018, 05:59:04 AM
I already made a post on flaws of this system. I think your account might not have negative trust if we have put these checks.

Be positive, Look forward and  continue your journey.
2102  Other / Meta / Re: Merit System .. Existing Flaws and fixing them on: January 31, 2018, 05:47:18 AM

@HabBear :(For Flaw 2)  Then why 50 max point set for an individual can give at a time, If it is  free market then individual
should be  allowed freely to spend what he have. I think it is community and we are here to create a
strong community. Welcoming the individual of high potential does not mean that we should neglect
                                 other.

(For Flaw 3) I agree this forum has plenty of good material. People who evolved with it, they understand but
we always need to remind the things for new comers and believe me, I have to use "Google"   to
search the things in this forum because internal search in this forum either do not work or too
                                      slow for me.

(For Flaw 4) Theymos suggested that new "Merit Source" need to be created in future, so why handpick them
when system can  find automatically . At least  no body will get the chance to say that decision
                                        was not fair.
2103  Other / Meta / Re: Merit System .. Existing Flaws and fixing them on: January 31, 2018, 04:48:02 AM
Hi Vod.

Below are the contents of Theymos post and I do not see any limit of 50 explained on it.

In addition to activity, everyone now has a merit score, and you need both a certain activity level and a certain merit score in order to reach higher member ranks. The required scores are:

Rank   Required activity   Required merit
Brand new   0   0
Newbie   1   0
Jr Member   30   0
Member   60   10
Full Member   120   100
Sr. Member   240   250
Hero Member   480   500
Legendary   Random in the range 775-1030   1000

You get merit points when someone sends you some for one of your posts. Additionally, when someone sends you merit points, half of those points can be sent by you to other people.

Certain users are designated as "merit sources". They can create new merit out of nothing, up to a limited number per month (which differs per source). I will not be posting a definitive list of merit sources (so that people don't bug them too much), though you'll soon figure out who they are if you pay attention.

There is currently no such thing as a "demerit". I'm hoping that the positive merits alone will be fine. I could add demerits pretty easily later on if necessary, though.

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

Do not beg for merit excessively.

Useful infographics

Forum users have helpfully created some infographics to explain the merit system:
paxmao's infographic
ibminer's infographic
8Habits's infographic
JetSet11's infographic
zentdex's infographic
alia_armelle's infographic

If you want to be a merit source:

 1. Be a somewhat established member.
 2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully.
 3. We will take a look at your history and maybe make you a source.

I am especially eager to have merit sources in sub-communities such as the local sections.

Trivia:

For current members, your initial merit score is equal to the minimum required to your rank. Of that, a certain amount (less than the usual half) is spendable. The spendable amount was calculated based on your current rank and the number of activity points you earned in the last year. A Legendary member who hasn't posted in the last year would still be Legendary, but would not have any spendable merit.

If someone sends you 1 merit, the 0.5 sMerit is not wasted; it is just not shown until you get another merit point.

There are stats here, and you can find someone's merit summary by clicking the "merit" link on their profile.

2104  Other / Meta / Merit System .. Some suggestions on: January 31, 2018, 04:30:17 AM
There is so much discussion going on about the Merit system , whether it is good or bad, creating rich or poor, preventing account farming or not etc .
But in my opinion there is no suggestion given how to further enhance this system ,make it hard to abuse and providing the merit to the people who are giving Merit for good post.

First problem : No limit on the number of point awarded by an individual to other in a single post
There is  no  limit on  "Merits"  that can be  awarded by an Individual in a single post. It is quite possible someone will spend all  his "Merit" balance on very first good post and will be left with nothing to award any "Merit" on second good post.

Second Problem: No limit how much merit  a good post can accumulate
Let me give an example we have 2 person, legendary A and Junior member B, A and B  both are giving good post to forum but A's post are better/more liked in forum. So everybody will give Merit to A and nobody will give merit to B. Now In this situation nobody will be advancing. (Apart from Merit Source, Merits are finite).

Third Problem: No clear guidelines  on definition of a good/constructive post.
This is the most tricky question because every individual will have different taste.  Let me take the example of the Dressing style, every body will have different style , that's why we never say to everybody to wear same clothes but some guidelines are issued on that what is ok/not ok to wear in professional world.

Fourth Problem : Negative Trust score for abusing Merits
I saw some people got negative trust for abusing the Merit system, I think "Trust" is for trade/transaction purpose. Giving negative points in Trust for abusing Merit do not fit well.

My Suggestion to fix these flaws.

First Solution We can decide what will be the maximum number of points can be given by an Individual to a
                                   post , let say 10.

Second Solution We can decide that how much Merit a single post can accumulate, let say 50

Third Solution  Below can be some parameter  to decide on a good post.
                                   a) Is the idea/content is really new.
                                   b) How many individual might be benefited with the post or is it benefiting the whole forum.
                                   c) Claims of post look genuine

Fourth Solution A new score of "Merit Smartly Used" can be created, For abusing the Merit a negative score
can be awarded, A positive score can be given if somebody is first to Merit a post and post
accumulated the maximum Merit  (let say 50)
The individual having a good score of  "Merit Smartly Used" can be made "Merit Source " in
                                      future

How many coin are required for POS?
All the coins are created by POW only? Is there was no ICO?
2106  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Is BTC mining is disturbing our planet earth. on: January 31, 2018, 12:29:03 AM
Proof of work is inefficient. Proof of capacity and proof of retrieval would be better systems. Not a huge fan of proof of stake myself (to earn some, you need some is kinda silly).

Proof of capacity is way more efficient. I can spin a disk for a few watts and store millions of hashes. As opposed to having to grind hashes every day, all day.

Is any crypto currency is using proof of retrieval system. It sounds very interesting system but found it is used for image storage.

2107  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Is BTC mining is disturbing our planet earth. on: January 31, 2018, 12:13:51 AM
Visa and the banking system consume far more energy, and they also require the use of many other resources. Maybe Bitcoin is actually helping to reduce the energy requirements. Smiley

Also, one has to lookat the underlying stats. Do they include the energy costs associated with the running of nodes. I think those are pretty negligible, as I would be running the computer anyway, and core is just a background task. However, if you want to publish negativity about Bitcoin, you could imply that all nodes are dedicated to the Bitcoin network and perform no other tasks.

I am not publishing any negativity on bitcoin. If you do an honest search on internet with topic "how much energy needed to mine bitcoin". then you will surely amuse yourself .
It is our responsibility to use all Natural resources judiciously. Government are imposing carbon tax and various taxes to protect the environment.
If the reports that are saying bitcoin wastes the energy then we should counter it with facts.
I never run any mining rig so I  have no idea how much energy it consume.
2108  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is useless on: January 30, 2018, 07:27:46 AM
I am amazed with number of people being fooled with BTC:

1. Transactions takes hours
2. Fees are high
3. Development team sucks, uncapable solve scalability issues for years
4. Its not anonymous, every solution to make it, failed so far
5. Its centralized: who is biggest hash power owner? Who is biggest miner hardware provider? Who owns most of bitcoins? What is % of Bitcoins in coldstorage and what in exchanges ( Ye Mt Gox )
6. There is 0 economics for BTC, it just tight to USD with liquidity providers, cut that and try to value pizza box with just BTC
7. Its not store of value, its not digital gold, and it will never be 100k USD. Because it has no value. It has value only for energy probiders, hardware manufactures and random phils.
8. Its not insured, If some crap happened to your BTC, its gone.

Such crap will never be used in payments, noone wants to support Terrabytes or Petabytes of data.

Its funny to observe how uneducated shills trying to make casual office landline phone to look smart phone.

BTC is scam of the century, stay away.
what? no its not. bitcoin cannot be a useless because there is so many people who been really rich because of bitcoin so what is your problem with it and what a trash question.

I think below quote of Warren buffet will open your eyes.
"Price is what you pay. Value is what you get. "

He is in post talking about the value of bitcoin but you are telling him the price of bitcoin.

I also think BTC will act as a collateral to buy other currencies, Commissions are so high in BTC transaction, you cannot think of doing any small transaction on it.
2109  Other / Meta / Re: Why the merit system is heavily lopsided in favour of older users on: January 30, 2018, 06:56:02 AM
Initially I also thought the same that merit system is heavily lopsided in favour of older users but when I read the history how this forum evolved my thinking changed. Please go through the below link.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/BitcoinTalk

We all are here because we know this the official forum of bitcoin talk.

If today Bitcoin is soaring the height because of the people who are early adopters and kept their faith in bitcoin.
They keep there faith even after Mt. Gox  tragedy.

I think most of people are ranting because it is directly affecting there profits in bounty campaign but if you think on reverse ways when this forum is created there is no bounty Campaign to participate (for these older peoples).

They were actually the Bitcoin technology enthusiast/believer , But if you see the current people majority are here because they think Crypto is easy money or it is a "Get Rich Easy" scheme.

If you read the "Airdrop/Bounties" thread , They just write good project without even understanding anything.  Somebody is asking for whitepaper in post when link of whitepaper is already available in first post.

2110  Other / Serious discussion / Is BTC mining is disturbing our planet earth. on: January 30, 2018, 06:29:05 AM
I recently come across the article that says :
"10 U.S. households can be powered for one day by the electricity consumed for a single bitcoin transaction."

If we use so much energy in bitcoin then we can ran out of energy (or we need to shut down the bitcoin network).
Can somebody enlighten me how the balance can be achieved to maintain both the Bitcoin Network and Planet Earth?

2114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Good staking coin on: January 28, 2018, 08:00:59 AM
What is exactly you want to do which 'x'?
Vcash, Burstcoin, Monetha, IXledger - thats risk investments

I am not looking for very high gains,  just want 10 percent  roi monthly but do not want to invest more than $70.
So you can say I am lookin to grt my ROI in 10 moths(Assuming coin price remain same)

If I understand you correctly you want a Proof Of Stake (POS) coin that pays nigh on 100% interest? Or do you mean something different by "staking"?

If you do mean POS, you could look at Version (V) - it stakes at 60%, but you need to have your wallet running 24x7 and there are bound to be a few orphans that will reduce your return.

Its trading around 30-40 sats at the moment, so $70 of bitcoin would get you about 13,000 V

Thanks for replying, I have few question that I posted in the V coin forum.

Hi All

What are the current staking reward of this coin and what are the minimum number of coin required to stake.
2117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [XSH] TOR/i2p, Quantum proof, MN, PoS/PoW, Fully ano, SHIELD on: January 26, 2018, 09:27:21 AM
How many XSH COINS do you need to participate in POS?

Right now its only POW,  POS will be in the future.

Is there any masterNodes? if yes, then how man ycoins required for MN

Masternodes are planned for Q2, you can find their roadmap here
https://shieldcurrency.com/

@24Kilo you can always stake your coins on a PoS wallet. You have just to unlock it 'for staking only'. If you want the expected time for receiving a reward use 'getstakinginfo' in your console. (PoS is not implemented yet)

I read that roadmap it look good that every phase has its own project name and defined objective But still I am not able to find number of coin needed for MasterNode. Do I missed something?

I do not know why I am not able to use my qoute feature.

my post count starts from  81 .
Wait for me for a week  Smiley Smiley

@TMAN

If I got you correct , that it means I should put my current count of my post, and make 40 constructive post and come back in week to repost the count again , then you will read all my post and decide to give me merit points.
