AHHH!  That's crazy!! Napster all over again, but yeah, I can see why the site fell flat on it's face.  It was too large and there was like no way to control the files on there, although they do (did) respond quickly to take down files, like PHPAdam said.

So I guess this is just the first of many file upload sites to be taken down?

2123  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Mafia! Join the mafia text MMORPG! Play for free! on: January 19, 2012, 07:24:37 PM
Signed up. I'm liking it.

How long is a minute in the game compared to real life? I'm in the hospital for 50 minutes (gametime), but it has taken me ~ 5 hours (irl), and I'm still not healed yet.

How do I drink a potion that I found on the streets?

Important to note that payments are handled manually, I didn't see this on the site.

Never played a mafia type game before, I can see the potential now. Nice work.

Yup, payments are handled unhackably manually.

50 minutes is a long time to be in the hospital, you gotta watch out if you get shot or something.  I just modified the hospital/jail timers by 3, let's see how it affects the game.

Which potion did you find?

small potion, I have 4 of them. Says medical, restore 100 health. I also have a kitchen knife, and I bought a weapon and some armor.

How do I drink the potion to restore health? How do I equip the knife? How do I put on the armor? I feel I'm missing something basic.

I like the feel of the game, maybe something I can leave up all day and check every now and then.

I changed the small potion to credit you 100 health and the kitchen knife to have 5 attack damage.  To equip items just go to the inventory and select 'use' or 'equip' next to the item name.  It would appear that the inventory screen could use a little modification, working on that now.

I have to go through all the items and add defense/attack ratings, I forgot that some items can be found which have no ratings so I'll try get that all done today.

I'm glad you like the game!  I've been concentrating on the layout/design of it, right now I am trying to make a highscores chart for the arcade so we could potentially have weekly Pac-Man contests or something.

Speed up the recharge times a bit. I only checked it out the first day and then lost interest because I would have had to wait an entire day just to do anything more.

The tiered setup is good, where more beneficial actions should not be repeatable as often. I would pick more low end actions and structure them or the recharge so they can be done more often. And there should be a few more things that can be done almost all the time, no matter what. Your goal should be to have the player spend as much time as possible on the site each day. And then monetize the piss out of it. In the least annoying way possible of course. ;p

cheers
Hmm, well the higher level you get to, the more energy you have to spend...  But i'll see if I can make the energy go up every minute slightly instead of 5 minutes.

I know my way around PHP. What are you looking to have made?

2129  Bitcoin / Project Development / Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 POS -- Bitcoin-possible? on: January 18, 2012, 04:18:34 PM
Hey I saw Microsoft releasing a new version of something I had never heard of: Dynamics POS.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics/erp-ax-overview.aspx

Bitcoin popped into my head, wondering if someone would be able to write a Bitcoin interface using this software, if it is widely used then it could be a way to integrate Bitcoin POS to the masses.

dailybitcoins.org is pretty much exactly that.  except they only usually give you 0.001 BTC.
2133  Economy / Speculation / Re: Well, it's settling down. Where will it go from here? on: January 18, 2012, 03:50:24 PM
it's a rocky road but everytime i see the price dip and spike I imagine someone profiting tens of thousands of dollars, somewhere.
2134  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for someone to create/modify software for this forum [1100+ BTC] on: January 18, 2012, 12:54:59 AM
lol hey man at least it would be free!  so not one of my better ideas, but it would work.  i firmly believe we should get a vBulletin license and use that for the forum.

I will be absolutely amazed if we get custom-tailored forum software made, if anyone deserves it it's us, but I am not going to hold my breath.

I did, however, create a bet on betofbitco.in for this Smiley

I love it how they also kept using the word 'bit' as well, just in everyday conversation.  Also, when they used the word 'difficulty' a few times there made me feel like they custom tailored the episode just for us! Smiley

Watched the episode today--twice--and it was fantastic!  Even my 65ish year old parents, which had previously been totally uneducated with bitcoin, were fascinated and learned a lot.  It's a lot more interesting when people on TV are talking about something, I suppose.
