If I had a serial cable, what are you suggesting I do with it.  Also, all of my computers are Mac's with Windows 7 via Parallel's installed in my Mac's.  If I need to go to buy a laptop to do what you suggest with a serial cable, I'll do it.  First, I need to know what I would do with the serial cable?
On OS X, open Terminal, then run

Code:
screen /dev/cu.usbserial-<TAB> 115200
where <TAB> is an actual tab keypress. It should autofill to something like /dev/cu.usbserial-A603PRMX. Plug the serial cable into a working miner and press enter, and then you should be prompted to log in (root / root). Works? Great. Now try plugging it into the troubled miner, and press enter. If you can log in, then the machine is booting, but something else is going wrong. You could try running ifconfig to see what the IP address is. If you can't log in and you see a bunch of Ç or C or ç (or something) characters appear on the screen at a rate of about one per second, that means that the miner can't boot off of the internal MMC storage for some reason. If that's the case, use a µSD card to either recover or boot.

I think the cable you need is this type, but I can't be sure since I was sent a few directly from SPTech and never bought them myself. You might also be able to make one yourself a bit cheaper by using an FTDI USB serial cable and soldering (or splicing) on an RJ12 connector on the other end.

Thank you for your time and patience.  I'll give this info a look to determine what to do.

Thanks, I suppose I need to get in touch with someone then.  I have another rig that I cannot connect to at all.  I know I have the correct IP address on it but it will not let me communicate with it.  It just says the server will not let me connect to it.

Any suggestions on that one?
I'd try using a serial cable first, but you probably don't have one. Chances are high that the internal MMC has gotten corrupted or gone bad. Try a SD boot disk (or possibly a SD recovery). http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/blogs/technical-blog/13098521-sp10-sp2x-sp3x-recovery-sd-card-boot-sd-card-creation-instructions

Bad ASIC. It may have been damaged during shipping, or it may just be a bad ASIC that slipped through QC. There's almost certainly nothing to be done besides replacing it. Spondoolies might be able to send you a replacement hashboard; you'd have to ask them.

Any ideas what is up with this 243 degrees Celsius on Loop 0?  I just got 15 rigs less than 24 hours ago.

There is an 8-bit unsigned integer underflow bug that occasionally manifests on Rockerbox (SP20/30/31/35) machines. Any VRM temperature reading that would be less than zero ends up as 255 minus the temperature reading. A temperature report of 243 thus probably means a reading of -12°C. There are a few other bugs that can cause abnormally low temperature readings. The most common one is due to the fact that Spondoolies uses several different models of FETs in their VRM blocks, and the different FET models have different temperature sensor calibrations. If the firmware uses the wrong sensor calibration formula, then you get temperature readings that are off by 20°C or so.

Thank you, Sir!  Very interesting!  By the way, the firmware update did fix the problem.

Douglas County PUD is 1.85 cents per kWH.
Do you know something I don't? From what I know, 2014 rates in Douglas are 2.35 cents, or about 2.52 cents once you factor in demand charges. When I talked to them in person last June, they said that rate applies to anything up to 5 MW, after which you have to buy wholesale power from the Bonneville Power Administration exchange (which is more expensive).

http://www.douglaspud.org/Documents/Current%20Rates.pdf

Yes, there is a demand charge.  But still dude, 2.35 cents!!!  That beats the hell out of my 10.6 cents in the winter and 12.1 cents in the summer in Alabama.  One can save $22,000.00 each month from a 550kW system versus what I'm paying here in Alabama.  Alabama rates include demand charges, etc...

I'm also aware of the "over 5 MW" exchange pricing.

Hi all,

I just got a 15 unit batch of SP20's approximately 30 hours ago.  I absolutely love these rigs!!!  However, I am running into an issue with one rig.  It says, "LOOP[0] ON TO:0 (w:38)
0: disabled (Asic all engines fail BIST).

I have IBM 2880W PSU's with breakout boards.  All of the others are running well on these IBM 2880W PSU's except for one I had problems connecting to last night [I will deal with it after I finish my new mining closet in the next couple of days].

I have replaced the PCI-e cord in port 1 of the SP20 and I've changed ports with a new cord on the breakout board.  Yet, it still says, "LOOP[0] ON TO:0 (w:38)
0: disabled (Asic all engines fail BIST)."

I was getting too sleepy last night to continue trouble shooting it.  If someone else has had this issue or has something to offer for me to try, please chime in.

Thank you

Awesome! Did you liquidate your S3s? I've sold off all my S3s and replaced all with SP20E & S5s. I'm no where near the hash power you have but still in the game for now. Looking forward to timk eating his words too Smiley

Yes, I hope to make him eat his words...  I still have big plans for Washington State!  I only hope I will qualify for bulk sales with SPT starting in Quarter 4.  I plan on getting $50,000 to $100,000 in equipment the 4th Quarter and at least $50,000 for Quarter 1 of 2016.  Then $75,000 for Quarter 2 of 2016.  I will keep bumping up my purchase every quarter till I have 2,000 TH/s minimum.  I would like to have as much as 10,000 TH/s in several buildings.  We'll see how it goes...

I still have my S3+'s and S3's.  I upgraded the firmware on all of my S3's and I have them under clocked to 193 MHz @ 0625 volts.  They all are averaging 380 GH/s each.  I wanted to upgrade the firmware on all of them to at least get them down to .60 watts per GH.  I also under clocked my S4's to 180 MHz and 0675 volts.  They are all averaging about 1650 GH/s each.

I must say, "I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THESE SP20's."  WOW!!!  The software, the ease of updating firmware, etc...  TOTALLY AWESOME!!!

Washington State home of low cost power and Starbucks.  Nice combo.  My power in NJ is 13 cents in the winter and 16 cents in the summer.

I use the heat in the winter to help heat the house. Turns my 13 cents into 10 cents, But for the most part I can't stay in this game much longer.

What is your power cost 4 cents?

Wife and I want to move to Washington State (Douglas County) the 4th Quarter from Alabama.  Actually, I would be the one moving first and staying there by my lonesome for the entire 4th quarter.  I plan on living in the commercial building during that time to keep the costs down and enable me to spend more on rigs.  My wife is an accountant.  I want her to continue working till she gets her bonus the beginning of 2016.

Several things have to get taken care of before I can move out there. I have trained almost every telephone technician on the East Coast and most of the heart land.  Now it's time to move out west and train technicians out there while mining also.  I have a 22 year old nephew who is into bitcoin and he is computer savvy.  I've mentioned my moving out there to start mining big time if I can get the rigs.  He's interested.  So, I hope he comes along for the ride.  He's a great person and I trust him.  Only thing I dislike about him is he is an Auburn fan.  Roll Tide!!!

Douglas County PUD is 1.85 cents per kWH.

I got to get some sleep.  I've been up all night...   Shocked  7:01am CST (Chicago Time) right now.

243C would be something to see, for sure. The lead-free solder in those things melts around 215-220C so your ASIcs would be sliding all over the place. More likely they'd have just burst into flames, but it's more fun to think about them skating across the PCB.

I was actually thinking the same thing.  I thought I was about to have a fire.  Went down stairs to feel the unit and it felt fine to the touch.

Any ideas what is up with this 243 degrees Celsius on Loop 0?  I just got 15 rigs less than 24 hours ago.

Looks like a display glitch in the code, showing 243 instead of 43 as the board temp

I was hoping that was the case.  I felt the rig with my hand and it feels cool to the touch like the other ones.

Thanks!

Try a newer or the latest firmware

I have 2.5.59

EDIT:  Just upgraded to 2.6.14

EDIT #2:  That fixed it... Thanks!!!

Sweet..looking forward to seeing your setup now. Are you running 2 ea on an EVGA 1300G2?

I'm running 4 each on IBM 2880W with breakout boards and under clocked

These 15 units today and a big exhaust fan for my new closet.  Everything is still in my old closet.

Its still hard for me the belive that sp20s made SP-tech no money.

-The chips are already developed and ready
-Boards are hillariously cheap .  It has 3 boards basically if you count the controller.
-No power supply.

The only thing I can think is the cost comes from the steel casing , if thats the case strip it down and sell the miner for the same price with just the hashing boards and a fan.  And charge extra
for an encased board.

The only oher thing i can think is they don't want competion for thier new bulk hardware which is strange to me since the hardware is not even in production yet?

It could be that SPT wants to go bulk to avoid headaches of dealing with negative and inconsiderate individuals like yourself.  Why don't you calm down and stop trying to ruin it for others who would be positive and considerate.  If you don't like the costs of a product a particular manufacturer provides, go to another manufacturer.  Don't stay here to try to make a public mockery of someone or an entity you obviously do not support.
2139  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Custom server PSU breakout boards. DPS-2000 BB, HP 1200 and 1300w. 2880w on: February 24, 2015, 04:47:39 AM
very interested in the 2880 and the break out boards.

When will you have these? I'd like 5 in Canada Cheesy

Hi everyone,

I am the official North American distributor of Break-out boards for the IBM 2880W PSU's, which are 80+ platinum rated (94%+ efficient) and have provision for 22x PCI-E cables.  Unlike other server boards, these don't rely on screw-down terminals which can get loose and spark causing fire hazards, and limit the exposure of live contacts to surfaces above and below the PSU. Instead these use a double-sided PCI 6 pin cable, which only cost about $0.10 more than the standard PCI-6 to bare wire versions. Also, unlike the DPS-2000BB -which is the next largest server PSU available for miners- these have fans already built-in, so don't need extra work to set up up and deploy.  The 2880W PSU's are also more efficient than the DPS-2000BB's @ 94% efficiency.

The PSU's themselves are available on e-bay and elsewhere (I sell them for $60 each), and the boards will be priced at US $70 each for 25 or less (better pricing for bulk purchase, volume structure will be the same as J4bberwock's). Each PSU can handle 3x SP20's, 5.5 Antminer S5's, or 8+ Antminer S3's.  You won't find better value for power, and there are very few ATX-based PSU's that provide 80+ platinum efficiency (and none for under $200 for even 700-800 watts). Lastly, unlike ATX-based PSU's, these can be run at (and I have found even over) their rated power, as they were designed that way for server use.  They do, however, require 240V input.

I have personally taken 3x SP20's to settings around 960 watts (at ports, not at wall) each for approximately 2 weeks, and the PSU drew 13.41 amps (@ 235 volts - 3150 watts @ wall).  So at absolute full load (or possibly over), these will still hold over 90% efficiency.  Very impressive, and I will be testing different fans to reduce sound for home mining (fans on these PSU's are slightly louder & higher pitched than SP20 fans).

Here are some pictures:

Feel free to contact the developer of these boards if you have any concerns, he will verify that I am authorized to sell these. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=206446

Board price - $70 each.  Orders over 20 will follow J4bberwock's future pricing structure

dmwardjr your closet is super nice. Is it effective to dampen the noise?

Thank you!!!

I believe it will be.  I have four (4) 25" (w) x 14" (h) grilles in one 36" (w) x 84" (h) door at the moment.  This closet has four (4) of those 36" (w) doors [2 on each side].  I'm only putting grilles in the doors as they are needed when rigs are added.  You can see 4 grilles in one of the doors on the back left.  I will also custom make a means of holding filters in the grilles that can be replaced periodically.

I built this closet downstairs in the recreation room.  It naturally stays cooler downstairs since cool air descends and heat ascends.  It will be much easier to keep the sound to a minimum downstairs in the basement.  Having them in my present closet reduces the noise dramatically.  The door to that closet has an 18" (w) by 25" (h) filtered grille installed in it.  There is a huge difference in noise with the rigs inclosed in structures like this.
