I wonder what asic builders will end up doing about gpu mining.

I purchased 2 full gaming miners for 4600.

Came with everything.  Inculding two 1080tis in each one .

They earn 15 usd. A day and use 750 watts a real major company with 1 year warranty.

Payback is about 320 days.

They would be worth at least 900   Each next dec.  That means 1800 profit So pretty competitive . I paid on Jan 28 and I am Mining today’s date is feb 9 so 12 day wait

Philip, right now mining is becoming abit of a scam as it is oversupplied. U may never break even u know. The last thing the industry needs is more mining equipment actually. Risks are too high.

I can not worry about breaking even.
I only worry about losing my profits.

The question for me is where do I buy for my power source.  I have 17kwatts at the solar array my cost is ½ the coins so I can mine at any price and still get ½ the coins.
Ie the solar array turns a profit at 1000 a bitcoin as my cost for the power is ½ the coins.  All my gear is paid off.

So I have 1 limit 17kwatts.

the others limits are dictated by coin price my garage can do 7k-watts in the winter and 2 k-watts in the summer  but low coin prices and high diff will affect me.

one other place to mine has a 2kwatt cap and cost is ½ the coins

so 17+ 2 = 19 /2 = 9.5 k-watt of free power

2-7 k-watt of risky power.

So I always try to fill  that  9.5 k-watt for me and 9.5 k-watt for my partners correctly.   the 2-7 of risky power is different.

i.e. I can't lose out unless I expand way way way over the 50/50 power deal.  Asic gear sucks for me as the warranty is shit.  gpu is safer as warranty is longer.
I am referring to profit from the new investment. Old investment back then are sure to profit.

If I invest it will be a larger solar array here in New Jersey with laws setup the way they are it is pretty much a no brainer.

The size will always be limited.  Next array may be 2 acres vs the 1 ¼ one I do with buysolar.  But they really can't lose money with current laws in place. In this state.

Now that we have had it up and running  we have an understanding of the numbers and math involved we are leaning more towards gpus  due to longer warranties and better service from gpu companies then asic companies offer.

A gpu with a 3 year warranty that will be honored looks far better to me then an asic with a 90 day warranty that gets pissed on.
21222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: If ASIC miner is more efficient in power than GPU, then why the ASIC-resistance? on: February 10, 2018, 09:41:09 PM
Gpu's are sold and serviced by real companies with real warranties.

Many asic are pre order
Many asic have 90 day warranty  that are next to worthless.

I can make a certain profit with gpu's 100% certain.

I can not do this with asics.

Build a solar array make sure you are in a grid tie back state that buys your power.

say you do 100k-watt build on about ¾ acre of land   in New Jersey that translates to a constant 24/7/365 supply of 20kwatts.

i.e. free power up to 20kwatts.

If I fill a shed with gpu rigs from evga I get 3 year good warranties and have zero power cost.

if I fill a shed with asics I get 90 day shit warranties and have zero power cost.

why do I want asics? I don't

now not every one can do solar but frankly I don't care much for asics due to bullshit service and bullshit warranties. and pre orders.

If I could get asics at decent prices with decent service I would have an interest increase in them.  until the companies learn to behave like real companies I will be more with gpus.
21223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Speed up Afterburner Startup? on: February 10, 2018, 09:03:13 PM
msi afterburner pools  every gpu and the cpu for info.

so 10 gpus = about 100 pieces of info each time it polls.

It is set to poll  every 1000 milliseconds = 1 sec = 60x 1 minute.

set it to 9000 or 9 seconds = 7 times a minute it will help lag

it is under settings monitoring section.

I've switched a couple of my rigs over to Nicehash.  Similarly configured machines have wildly different daily estimates of earnings.

Can anyone point me to setting, configuration strategies, etc. to normalize and maximize revenue using their service?

If privacy is not an issue.  go the nicehash email full account mine method  which gives cheap withdrawal to coinbase.

this will all be tracked and taxable but you save on fees.

I am like Phil  I have  3 btc addresses and left coins build up.  I check 4 times a day manually  but most often mine Zec  due to ease of mining it.

I am referring to maximzing hashrate/revenue on the rig, not take home revenue.  One machine forecasts 60 to 70% more revenue than the one next to it.

I am renting to people .  if  you could write a scrypt to turn off and turn back on when you drop too low  the chances are the next renter would pay more.

I played with this on a manual level  and it works.

at this moment  they switched to 1500 and 2300 =  really good.

and now   1500 and 1850 - really good.

Based on current prices

 2k  seems okay for a 3 board
maybe   a little less   since this one does 12.5th

the 2 board   would be 1.4k

I have flex in price  but not much

I ordered a third one

I am spending 2342 - 2% cc rebate = 2295  I may or may not get the $150  rebate from retail me not

still 2295 for this one

and 2280 for each of the other two

this one is a 880-160 model with  an i7 8700

the others are 880-150 models with an i5 8400

this is a better deal  for 15 bucks you get the same with an i7 vs an i5

these will replace the three that ran at my friends office.  they were diy  and cost me 2000 each to build.
I sold them for 2000 each after mining them for 7 months.

My gut feeling is these omen pc's are going to sell out.
Note my mc donalds epp store  gave me an extra 130 off so I may not get the retailmenot 150 off.

but if you guys open a retailmenot  you will get  the 150 off maybe?

I want to pull the apw3 from it to power a new S9 I just got. If a 1200w hp psu will run it then I’ll grab one of those instead of another apw3.

No worries .

Even with 120 volt it will do the job.
21232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: February 10, 2018, 05:00:57 AM
900 per 1080 ti is sustainable price if you power is cheap.

3.50 to 4.00 earnings for 1 card using 5kwatts of power.

this breakdown to

3.00-3.50  profit a day per card after power

300 days  = 900 to 1050 back.

cards have 1 year warranty or longer .

So at 900  the price is not terrible

prices will not drop to 700  until cards are earning

under 2 per day.  Simple math dictates it.

I was happy to buy the 2 gaming pc's at 2290.00 each after tax.

They came today  and are making 6.80 using 1.30 in power each  so 5.50 a day  would mean  paid off in 416 days.

I have a 1 year warranty  so I will be fine with them.

best of all I can return them for 45 days so my risk of a crash  does not exist for 44 days after today.

Who's return policy is 45 days? only one i know off hand is best buy's gold or whatever membership tier. Just curious and wanted to know Smiley

best buy elite
but I am with hp.com I got through a member store from my high school job at mc Donald's

these are omen gamers I get a 430 dollar discount  they list for 2606 - 430 = 2176 tax is 7%  = 2327 - 2% for eBay card = 2280    I timed the charge and have 45 days before the money is due.  and hp.com allows returns up to 30 not 45 days.  1 year full warranty.

so 2 were about 4560 they are earning  15 a day using 760 watts which is about 19 kwatts at 10 cents in the winter .  so first 30 days I will have earned 390 net

I am supposed to get 2 x 150 off from retail not  but I am not sure if that will work out.  I will need to fight for that.

worker 1 and 2

The gear is real.

Not sure if it works well.

Not sure if it breaks a lot.

Not sure what repair service will be like.

Not sure how fast they ship.

Not sure if bitmain will:

 a) drop the s-9 down to 1200 to hurt sales of this.
 b) drop sales of s-9 to 900 to kill sale of this.
 c) release a 18 0r 20 0r 22 th miner that uses  1200 to 1300 watts and just match sales price of this.

I am sure my gpus still make money even if I can't buy anymore.

I am sure Feb 9 is today

I am sure March 21 is spring and Yoshi said he will sell me 4-5 miners to be shipped to me in early April. I can pay with cc or paypal as he will trust me.

I  am sure I will check thread every day.

Lots of cards starting to pop up online second hand!
Still outrageously priced, but i'm sure there will be some bargains soon.
give it a few more weeks, I warned all those fools paying tripple retail price it was a bad idea
few people listened.  The longer this blood bath lasts the worse it gets for idiots who paid $900 for a 1070
and $700 for 580s 🤦🏿‍♂️

Or $1300+ for a GTX 1080 Ti.... I sort of feel bad for them, but mostly for their families in the cases of people maxing out credit cards or taking loans thinking they could get rich quick without taking a peak at how history repeats itself over and over.

I blame all the utubers "How to make $15 a day mining on one gtx 1080 TI!! Print your own monies!"

I am glad I did not buy the expensive GTX 1080Ti. I think I can buy them for below $800 in a few weeks.

Keep dreaming lol... if this last huge drop wasn't enough to kill the GPU gouging market, not sure it will end any time soon... and overall market if already back up about 40% from the bottom a few days ago.  Yes, there is more supply hitting the market now but even the ones that are "only" marked up $100-$150 (newegg & amazon) are gone instantly. The only ones i've seen stick available for more than 1-2 minutes are the $730-ish 1070ti's that came in at B&H. Sorry jokers, Im not paying nearly 50% above retail from a MF'ing retailer lol!  but clearly a lot of people are. Dare I say those cards will never ROI?  Or maybe in 1+ years IF the market really skyrockets again... a lot of ifs.

yeah $550 is my max for a 1070 or 107ti , $350 max for an RX 580 8GB

until prices drop to those levels ill just hold my coins and wait for the next pump

I found  some decent fully built gaming deals.

2 card rx 580  for 1313 plus tax
2 card 1080ti for 2200  plus tax

both have i7 8700
thats still too high for me, plus Im stuck with gaming box ram and cpu etc
Ill wait till volta is released and maybe have some friends pic up some cards locally for me

in your case they don't work.  for some they are an option.

I sold off a few units with 2 1080ti's set in cases and using smos.  I got 2k each

I don't mind  getting 2  for 2200 each   for 200 bucks cost on each I get.

an i7 8700 vs i3 7100
2 new 1080 ti's
windows 10 vs smos
1 tb hdd vs usb stick
8gb ram vs 4gb ram
new 1 year warranty vs 9 month old gear..

if you do the math a 1080ti is still worth more then 900 .  if it earns 4 dollar a day and spends 200 watts  it nets 3.50 a day  x 300 days = 1050 .

So if you buy a gaming rig and net 2100 in 300 days the rig has at least 900 value   so I turn 2200 into 3000 in 10 months .

But that is my model  selling gently used gear at good prices.
Like the s-9's I sold not marked upped like nuts.

BTW still have more s-9s  a two board  and a three board left are left.

the two board has a third board that died in about 1 month of use.

the three board is older works well

yeah you have a good process, for me selling stuff is a pain, plus the parts on those gaming rigs are of no use to me anymore since i have standardized on those 8 gpu onda boards which use smaller ram etc

matter of fact o have a ton of normal mother boards and 8gb ddr4 ram sticks I probably need to start listing on amazon since i cant sell on ebay with no paypal

Pool Hash rate = 7000 TH/s
128% probability to win a block in 1 month
Alas these are wrong. There is no such thing as 100% probability with mining which is a stochastic process. It keeps approaching 100% but never gets there.

Maybe better to say

Your Hash rate = 13 TH/s -> If you have neutral luck you will mine 1 block in 35,55 years
Pool Hash rate = 7000 TH/s -> Having neutral luck 1 block will be mined in 24 days (or 1.28 blocks in 1 month, even it is imposible to mine 0,28 blocks)

Definetively, 128% luck doesn't make any sense
128% luck would make sense. Just not 128% probability, right?

I think Luck and Probability mean exactly the same thing.
They allude to a notion but really don't mean much at the end of the day

If we stay at 7ph and the diff stays flat  the odds are we need to make 128 blocks in 100 months.

If we did that we would have 100% of what we should have this 100% luck .

If we do 192 we would have really good luck since our return is far higher then normal.

If we do 64 we would have really bad luck since our return is far lower then normal.

Of course we do not stay at 7ph  and diff does not stay flat which has nothing to do with the statement but causes difficulty in understanding projections into the future.

I am trying to calculate the required CFM (RCFM) for the area 10x5x6 with 7kW of power in it.
My calculations are:
V = 10x5x6 = 300 ft3.
BTU = 7000x3.41 = 23870
Air changes per hour (ACH) in data centers is suggested to be 50, so
RCFM = 300x50/60 = 250CFM

The problem here that 50 ACH I found in some guides "how to build a data center", so there was no really explanation where this number comes from.
I think ACH should be calculated somehow with using BTU.
And second of all 250CFM doesn't seem enough for 300 ft3 and 7kW.

Any advise if my calculations are correct and how to connect CFM with BTU please?

Okay final post as the owner of this gear.  I sold it locally  to a friend of buysolar.

He saw it on youtube and said it was a good fit for his basement .

I like this gear  it was a smart design once I dropped settings on msi afterburner  I cut watts from 1500 to 1025  hashing at 3100 sols.

Works very well.

The builder autominer.at  is going to use an i3 vs the celeron  and use 2x 4gb sticks of ram vs 1x 4gb stick of ram/

I did 2 mods to it.  I went from 4gb ram to 16gb ram  since I had a lot of ram on hand.   It only needs 8gb.

It had 2 fans that are 200mm  one pulled 148 cfm the other pulled 128 cfm.

So I purchased a second 148 cfm fan  from newegg.

Do gpu runs over 70 c  in a 80f basement

Most run  at 58-62c in my friends basement.

Next time I pop over his place I will photo it.  If you can buy these I would say  it is good. especially if you are a builder your self as you could then make a second or third on for yourself.

I would love to have 10x zotac  1070ti minis in my copy build  vs  13x 1060 zotacs.

Of course no one can get cards but that is another story.  Maybe in the fall.

@philipma1957

Hi legend, I need your help / advise.

I have 1 asic miner running and 2 more coming next month.

My PC is now running as a server for the miner. But when 2 more miners arrive I will relocate these miners to a new location. Thus I need a new PC as server for the mining operation.

My idea is to purchase a windows 10 rig (desktop computer) with GPUs so that I can mine ETH at the same time. Can you recommend me the HW configuration, if my budget is about USD$1000 to USD$1100?

Or even better, If you have a old rig that you want to get rid of, would you sell to me please?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Steve

I ask  because Usa to singapore is expensive to ship.

I will pay for shipping, of course.

If you could build/sell me a rig for this purpose then I will be forever grateful.

Help out a newbee and do a good deed for the year!  Cheesy
