2161  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [PSA] - Price drop on Trezor One (+ developments) 2018-09-21 on: October 01, 2018, 06:48:35 PM
Wonder if Monero will be supported on the model One. Seems like they are working on it, of course if this is not a private project, link > https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@dnaleor/trezoro-trezor-for-monero-the-basics

They won't support Monero on the TREZOR One due to hardware limitations (source). One of their employees wrote under their tweet that Monero and some other coins are coming to the TREZOR model T in the next software update. As far as I remember, they are waiting for the Monero team to merge their code.

Feel free to ask me any questions if you want to know something about the model T. I have had it since the pre-order.
2162  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Flaws in LN (Lightning Network). on: September 30, 2018, 07:42:59 PM
right now in LN there is no single rule. its a mish mash of different concepts. people can easily add eltoo. or other concepts. att litecoin add other coins add loads of features there is no only activate if everyone agrees

What are BOLTs (Bases of Lightning Technology) for you then if not rules? Ease of adding new features should be considered as a huge advantage. Eltoo is an alternative to the current penalty system and it won't replace it completely. Users are free to negotiate between themselves how they are going to settle transactions between themselves as long as their software is compatible. I don't get the second part of this quote. Do you blame the Lightning Network for being too complex?
2163  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: September 23, 2018, 09:17:19 AM
What's different? The fact that you have a lot of merit points? Yes I agree, perhaps you know much more and communicate better. But I have to do it and try to make money. I hope I reach your level. And I think that everyone should have a chance.

The biggest difference is that most of the people who participate in this campaign, are doing a huge contribution to the community by helping with complex problems and discussing some serious things. Your habits won't change if you don't spend your time studying rather than writing posts only in the altcoin section. You are not forced to join any signature campaign. You can do that after you spend a few months on improving your knowledge and you won't regret that. Everyone stands a chance, it just needs a bit effort.

I am sorry if anyone thinks that this explanation was redundant. I just felt like doing it.
2164  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: September 22, 2018, 01:56:01 PM
PayBis looks more suitable for fiat trading. Do you have any idea If it will be possible to trade to PayPal, PerfectMoney and the other methods they support as well?

Short answer: Currently, it is not possible.

I have just checked it with my TREZOR T and that is how the "Exchange" menu looks like.

As you can see on the picture above, you can exchange your BTC to BCH, BTG, DASH, DOGE, ETH, ETC, LTC, XMR, XRP, ZEC or buy some directly from the latest TREZOR beta wallet. Since it is available only in the beta release of the wallet, they might consider adding sell option in the future. It is worth to mention that TREZOR warns user that these are third party services which are not associated with them.

Also, Monero and some other coins will be supported in the upcoming TREZOR T software update. Some code changes need to be merged into Monero.
2165  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: September 21, 2018, 11:54:51 PM
TREZOR has decided to cut the price of TREZOR One by 20 EUR. Shipping has also become cheaper! Another great news is that TREZOR Core (software created and maintained for TREZOR T) is being ported to the TREZOR One. This means that this device will get a few new features and coins (as long as the device's memory isn't a limitation).

PayBis looks more suitable for fiat trading. Do you have any idea If it will be possible to trade to PayPal, PerfectMoney and the other methods they support as well?

I asked your question on their Telegram channel and I still haven't got any reply. Let me test it tomorrow.
2166  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Lightning Network Discussion Thread on: September 21, 2018, 09:37:29 AM
What would be the point of bigger blocks?

What would be the point of Bitcoin Cash then? The Lightning Network could be used without SegWit but it would cause a lot of problems (mainly transactions getting malleated). We can easily increase the blocksize any time we want but decreasing it would be nearly impossible.

Introducing SegWit was much wiser move since it increased the maximum block weight to about 4 MB. Oh, don't forget that SegWit killed AsicBoost. Guess who loses money because of that.
2167  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Lightning Network Discussion Thread on: September 19, 2018, 06:34:29 PM
In comparison, Lightning could easily provide x20 or more capacity with zero cost to full nodes.  That's what you have to compete with.  You can't come up with anything like a x20 or more increase by fiddling with the blocktime, unless you set it to something ridiculous like 30 seconds.

He might argue that second layer scaling solutions need some time to grow and become popular while Bitcoin is already accepted by some merchants. As you mentioned, they don't have any negative impact on the Bitcoin network itself even if they are centralised. Once you make a huge change (e.g. change the blocktime), it won't be easy to roll it back. There is no problem with using multiple layers either. No need to argue which vision is better.
2168  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: September 19, 2018, 04:12:13 PM
TREZOR now supports exchanging cryptocurrencies directly in their beta wallet. Currently, no KYC is needed but it might be forced in the future. The following services are supported: changelly, coinmama, changenow, paybis, coins switch. It might be really useful for those who didn't know that there was such an alternative to exchanges.

2169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 10 Things to Know About Litecoin on: September 17, 2018, 01:36:44 PM
Improvements such as instant speed and ridiculously low costs were introduced to counteract bitcoin’s shamelessly sluggish speed, massive costs and inexplicably huge energy consumption

The only reason why Litecoin transactions are faster is that its block interval is about 2.5 minutes. This might lead to the increase of orphaned blocks and faster Blockchain size growth. Bitcoin transactions are cheap (1 sat/vbyte) and they are going to become even cheaper thanks to the Lightning Network (instant payments) and the Bitcoin Core 0.18 update which will allow its users to pay a fee lower than 1 satoshi per byte.
2170  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Lightning Network Discussion Thread on: September 15, 2018, 10:51:51 PM
Does all this mean that the lightning network is no longer beta testing?

The Lightning Network still needs some testing, especially after making changes to how payments are being routed. The maximum channel capacity is about 0.16 BTC. It was introduced on purpose in BOLT implementations to avoid loss of large amounts of coins. In my opinion, once this restriction is removed we can say that the Lightning Network is out of beta.
2171  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Lightning Network Discussion Thread on: September 15, 2018, 01:00:09 PM
LND v0.5 beta has just been announced. This version mostly consists of many small improvements. However, there are a few things worth taking look at. Autopilot can now create unadvertised channels which do not take part in payment routing. Another great thing is that channels which are being closed are excluded from routing payments. The same applies if one of the node's peers is offline.
2172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New hashrate ATH again on: September 14, 2018, 07:29:51 PM
Even if the price of the coin falls and the demand falls, as long as there is no fall in the hash rate, it means that the coins are not dying.

Yes and no. Miners might attempt to pump the coin they mine but it is not going to work out long-term (e.g. Bitcoin Cash - miners [Bitmain] were mining it even though Bitcoin was more profitable). Any coin is useless if there is no large user base and merchants who would accept it. The price is not the most important factor here, it is the demand.
2173  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: 51% attack can be done with no source code access? on: September 13, 2018, 08:49:16 PM
i cant understand this 51 percent attact , can anyone explaine to me !

This Bitcoin wiki article should help you to understand it.

I don't believe you need to modify source code to run a 51% attack; you could solve a block, and just not broadcast it.

Not even a single block. The attacker can perform a private hard fork which could overwrite the original chain once it became longer. This attack would be obviously used for cheating merchants and could be performed with a lower hashrate but has a lower success rate.
2174  Economy / Economics / Re: China Can’t Afford a Cashless Society (Perhaps No One Can) on: September 13, 2018, 08:23:24 PM
My point basically is that governments should stimulate those who aren't capable of catching up with the economical trends themselves. If you look at how the lower class in economical terms hasn't gone through any sort of improvement throughout the last decades, it's safe to say that it won't ever happen if you wait for it. Don't you think the government should be a stimulating factor here?

How should the government encourage people to start using only digital method of payments? I think that there are a few ways and each country will do it differently. We can either try educating people (expensive and it doesn't guarantee 100% success since many will simply ignore it) or forcing people by switching over completely to digital cash. It will be much easier to do since smartphones are becoming more and more popular along with cashless payments. The elderly are the biggest problem. Most of them still feel unsafe about modern technology.
2175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.16.2 Released on: September 13, 2018, 07:10:05 PM
the 16.0 version is not loading anymore(not always) on the last win 10 update is this addressing this issue?

There should not be any problems with that. Here you can report you issue with some more details. You could also try upgrading your Bitcoin Core instance to 0.16.2. I skimmed through the change logs and I couldn't find anything similar to what you have described.
2176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Mining Now Close to Unprofitable, so what is best thing to do now? on: September 12, 2018, 09:04:07 PM
If it came close to unprofitable some miners will stop mining and difficulty will decrease and will become profitable again.
The difficulty mechanism works in the two ways when the price goes up and when the price goes down./

That's not how it works. The vast majority of miners will continue to mine Ethereum because: its price might go up in the future, the cost of electricity is so low for them that they can still afford mining, there is no other coin worth mining and so on.

The difficulty has nothing to the price of the coin. It all depends on the demand and the supply.
2177  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Lightning Network Discussion Thread on: September 12, 2018, 07:55:54 PM
Eclair wallet for Android now supports channel backup! Channel data is encrypted and optionally uploaded to Google Drive which makes it easy for an average user to recover it when needed.

Is there a comprehensive list of solutions that mitigate
this "you always have to be online" problem if you want full
control of your funds in open payment channels?

The only thing I can think of right now are watchtowers which some people consider as a security threat. Keep in mind that if the other party attempts to close the channel forcefully when you are offline, it won't happen immediately. The locktime is negotiated always when the channel is founded. Usually, it is about 144 blocks (1 day). Running a Lightning Network node isn't as demanding as Bitcoin Core instance. Thanks to neutrino you don't have to download much data.
2178  Economy / Economics / Re: What will happen if the all countries convert to cryptocurrency? on: September 11, 2018, 09:02:05 PM
Crypto offers security, just like you said you don't need to bring cash, just your mobile phone to buy stuff in groceries. And we might see bitcoin fees much lower if LN + Segwit will be fully implemented by merchants.

One disadvantage is that you always need to be connected to the Internet at some point to processed your transactions.

The Internet connection won't be an issue in the future since all mobile plans are becoming more and more cheaper. The Internet is widely available in Europe for everyone and this is very unlikely to change. Small stores will have to use the Lightning Network or any other off-chain solution in order to benefit from low fees and encourage people to do their shopping there. We might see some kind of NFC card which will be able to sign a transaction and send it to the terminal.
2179  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Lightning Network Discussion Thread on: September 11, 2018, 04:32:01 PM
But are Lightning nodes = banks? Do the users surrender all control of their Bitcoins to open a channel? Is there a fractional reserve?

There is no fractional reserve on the Lightning Network. Opening a channel means locking up bitcoins in a multi-signature address. Both parties have the same level of control as long as they are online - you can get your coins back any time you want except when the other party is offline. Anyone can set up a Lightning Network node so even if banks attempted to hijack the network, it would be possible to exclude their nodes from routing your payment.
2180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wallet.dat import ? on: September 09, 2018, 09:56:36 PM
Trying bitcoin core and litecoin core but the blockchain needs 9years to sync the blockchain.

It won't last that long. The synchronization takes about 3 days depending on how powerful your hardware is. You should be able to import this wallet file in Bitcoin Core without having to synchronize with the blockchain. You will be able to export your private key and view your addresses which you can check using the blockexplorer. Once you export your private key, you can use Electrum to easily access your funds.
