2161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do average people run full nodes on: September 01, 2014, 04:22:14 PM
It's the collegiality, selflessness and public spirited ness that characterises the crypto community
Self interest alone cannot explain why it works
Yep, it's an interesting conglomeration of rational self-interest and idealistic altruism.
2162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin changing my ideology from socialism to libertarianism! What about you? on: September 01, 2014, 04:20:22 PM
And where are these starving people?  America is experiencing epidemic obesity.
Africa, Bangladesh, Haiti, the poorer parts of China & India. The "global south". Yeah, no shit Americans aren't starving. The USA is the military hegemon, we (the "global north", USA + EU) benefit from the relative poverty of the global south.

You want to know where starvation and horrifying poverty happen? You look need no further than the tags on your clothes.

2163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Do People Believe Bitcoin Will Replace Fiat? on: September 01, 2014, 01:37:37 PM
If you don't think mass adoption of Bitcoin could stop most major war, how much BTC will you send to support the next invasion?
Zero BTC, and I thank you for asking, instead of simply eroding the value of my Bitcoin by printing mass quantities of it to give to your war profiteering corporate pals. OH WAIT, you can't do that with crypto! I almost forgot!
2164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Charlie Shrem Pleads Guilty - What do you think? on: September 01, 2014, 01:34:16 PM
So what is the maximum sentence for "aiding and abetting an unlicensed money transmitter"? Seems pretty mild compared to the original charges so I am not surprised he took the deal. Unfortunately this also means that a court won't be considering the legality of a company like BitInstant. From what I remembered they'd made some effort to remain legit.
max for his charge is 5 years, but he won't get sentenced to that.
2165  Economy / Speculation / Re: Poll: Will we drop to sub $400 today? Inside info about GABI shorting BTC? on: September 01, 2014, 02:33:55 AM
Bitcoin will never again drop below $425 for more than a few seconds at a time.
2166  Economy / Speculation / Re: Next boom within 3-4 months tops on: September 01, 2014, 02:30:11 AM
I would define boom as 5K.

Ya niggaz move that dope.
Ya niggaz move that dope.

Real dope dealaz fo' real.

2167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will the Dominica Bitcoin Drop be a Success? on: August 31, 2014, 11:52:26 PM
Read the terms. The funding for the "Bitcoin drop" is from suckers people who donate money for it. The people behind the "Bitcoin drop" aren't putting up the money.
And they're sure to pocket a percentage of the donations.
2168  Economy / Speculation / Re: Incredibly high volume on BTC-e - Bot gone crazy? on: August 31, 2014, 11:46:46 PM
When I last looked btc-e had over 40k bitcoin transactions, thats fucking huge for them. bitstamp had like 9k.. what the hell is going on? some major dumpers and some major buyers... Something is going on...
Just your run of the mill whale market manipulation. Nothing to be concerned about really, the game remains the same for us plebs.
2169  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Slush's Pool on: August 31, 2014, 11:45:01 PM
2.2 Mhash / s is too little, don't bother.
2170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to secure the bitcoin "life economies" ? The method. on: August 31, 2014, 04:40:04 PM
How the heck is anyone not obsessed with computers supposed to do this?
You wait 1-3 years, when everything will be far more user-friendly.
2171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have officially made it into the 100 Bitcoin club on: August 31, 2014, 04:37:59 PM
Anyone could send the some 0.1 BTC to themselves between two wallets again and again if they wanted to join this imaginary "club".
2172  Economy / Speculation / Re: Incredibly high volume on BTC-e - Bot gone crazy? on: August 31, 2014, 04:36:09 PM
I've been thinking that myself. You can just feel it in the air that BTC is gearing up for another rocket trip.
2173  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have officially made it into the 100 Bitcoin club on: August 31, 2014, 01:48:52 AM
It's been less than 2 months since I posted this, and now I'm up to 150+ Bitcoins sold! Business has definitely picked up.

You're still not in the club with the cool kids.
2174  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did you know that the US is the Second Largest Bitcoin Holder? on: August 30, 2014, 05:46:42 PM
If bitcoin is successful then the government would hold a lot of bitcoin that is worth a lot of money but they will have no control over it.
Worth a lot, but notably worth far, far less than the massive, global phoney money empire they currently ride on.
2175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did you know that the US is the Second Largest Bitcoin Holder? on: August 30, 2014, 02:38:18 PM
US Government holds how many US dollars? How much of their sovereignty derives from their power over money?

With only 150,000 out of 13+ million total Bitcoins, how much less powerful will they be after the dollar is dead and gone?
2176  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Generation Z (<20yr) & Bitcoin = perfect combination! on: August 30, 2014, 02:31:12 PM
Marketing, eh?
2177  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: There's a BTC payment processor in Lithuania, copying BitPay. Your opinions? on: August 30, 2014, 02:26:12 PM
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
2178  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase going busto? Numerous people not getting paid by Coinbase currently. on: August 30, 2014, 01:59:34 PM

Coinbase is fine. Back to work, peons.
2179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did you know that the US is the Second Largest Bitcoin Holder? on: August 30, 2014, 01:55:19 PM
FBI already auctioned off 30k btc. They still have quite the wallet though. And it's quite ironic that btc is decentralized, yet one government has one of the biggest bags.
"Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer" is the logic of an entity that views everything from the perspective of a mafia boss. Which is what the USA government has become.
2180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1 bank account = 1 telephone landline. 1 cellphone will be 1 bitcoin user on: August 30, 2014, 01:51:33 PM
All this is cool but I hate my smartphones. I find them very intrusive because anyone can call be anytime and interrupt whatever I am doing
Logical fallacy. You have the power to turn this device off and mute it at will. If you choose not to do that, you have no one to blame but yourself when your enjoyment of the sacred present moment is rudely interrupted by a noisy gadget.

When I go to the beach, I don't even bring my cellphone. That way I can go in the water without having to worry about if my phone will get stolen.
