We have no right nor the information to judge and/or give advice in this matter.

Indeed.

Good luck Risto.

Volume is tasty....

We need to properly break 0.01 again to say the bear run is truly over, but this volume spike is very positive.

It does show that XMR can turn on a sixpence and any decent good news could be epic.  I still think a new rise to the real heights will need patience.  Variables are of course GUI and BTC.

Zcash threat looks to be have been weathered, though.  It's looking a bit 'meh..' Monero doesn't care.
2183  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 04, 2016, 10:47:21 AM
Clinton has made some missteps but she has also spent her life in public service -- and remember gentlemen (and I really don't want to get into a huge debate on this but the research is there) women are always held to far higher standards than men, so many of her indiscretions would have been forgiven if she were a he.

But I find it very revealing how so many people dismiss Trump as a buffoon and think this somehow makes him benign -- very similar to the way Americans confuse 'brash' with 'honest'.  I first came across trump 30 years ago when he started destroying Scotland with his stupid golf courses -- we Scots hate him for his destruction of our land.  He will be a disaster for the environment for starters.

And all of the evidence (and I've read an awful lot about him over the last six/eight months) suggests he is manipulative, duplicitous and dishonest (as well as being a racist and misogynist who has had links to organised crime).

You Americans may have managed to get yourself two weird candidates for POTUS but you are scaring the hell out of the rest of us with your support for Trump.

I agree with all you say, from south of the border you're north of - but it's not a view that will be applauded here, sadly, nano. Sounds like you heard that interview on BBC R4 with Mr T's first 'Art of the Deal' biographer ;-)  Scary... for sure.

At what point does FOMO really kick in... 750?  800?  ATH?
2185  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 03, 2016, 11:20:29 AM
Starting to feel distinctly nostalgic...  I am cautiously getting excited again.

It's a fair way to go before I pop the champagne cork, though - if we do see 1000 I will for sure.   Conditions have not looked this good for a long time, but let's see.

...

I expect ETF  approvals anytime soon. There is likely a fair bit of hedging going into btc from institutional investors. Probably coupled with some announcement resolving the blocksize stalemate for maximum impact if they can ever agree. Once that happens we are in uncharted territories IMHO so this could go big. Way bigger than last ATH is possible

Without an increase in the blocksize, I don't see the justification from a fundamental point of view for an increase in the the Bitcoin price above its all time high. If there is an increase in the blocksize then multiply the maximum blocksize in MB by the ATH in USD. I would spend some time on this site https://blockchain.info/blocks to really understand what is going on  with Bitcoin.

I am talking fundamentals here. As for what crazy thing speculators will do who knows. There was the ATH of ~2.4 million USD for ZEC for example.

I agree BTC has issues, but it seems to have no obvious end right now - what can watching transaction waiting times size and full blocks do, other than confirm there is an issue that is potentially crippling to growth.

It's hard to feel confident in Core and its 'solutions' - but I don't see how miners will find consensus to act and go against them, so what can we do but watch as things limp on?

I have stayed out of the debate - due to feeling inadequately technical to know what is right and just hoping it will sort itself out... But it doesn't seem to have thus far...

@kurious, well you asked..lol Wink

@nanobrain: Yep, I know... but at least it drew a few firm speculative comments (and a decent graph) out and interrupted the TC bashing stuff  Wink

"bash...bash".....oh sorry. Wink

Yes, MasterLuc's stuff is always interesting.
And it's interesting how there is a divergence of opinion and what that opinion is based upon.

Yesterday, i'd have said that we have to go to .004 due to TA but now I'm looking at BTC at 740+ and XMR going up (on low volume admittedly).

Who the hell knows anymore....you may as well offer a new born to the Gods.

Hey... it wasn't particularly directed at you, nor was it unjustified to call him out.

I just wanted to get some serious analysis at a moment which looks pretty volatile all over crypto and will of course affect - and test - XMR.
2188  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 02, 2016, 08:17:38 PM
Anyone notice that the majority of volume on Huobi is made up of trades in the amount of 420 BTC?

Are you thinking the Exchange itself or one actor on it?
2189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 02, 2016, 05:43:06 PM
I think the Monero price will be reversely correlated to the Bitcoin price.  MasterLuc, whos predictions have been very accurate in the past and are based on the EW (Elliot Wave) principles back in August called a top for Bitcoin where we are now and predicted a bleed off to about 580 in early January before resuming an upward trajectory.  He even called the Bitcoin bottom which resulted from the Bitfinex hack well in advance when everyone was euphoric and calling for Moon.  If he is once again correct we should see a good rise in price until Bitcoin takes another moonshot so that could have been a short to mid term bottom for Monero.  Strong capitulation to 0.0058 and another higher double bottom yesterday at 0.006 with significant volume.  If his prediction does not come to fruition and Bitcoin resumes the uptrend shortly we might have a bottom in the 0.005s, since everyone is expecting 0.004s it likely wont happen.

Just my two cents.

Here is his prediction for reference.

Respect for a decent post, Sir.

Realistically BTC and our traditional inverse correlation when it moves, is the main thing to weather on through.  But Risto is right too - there looks to be an annual cycle.

An August high, December lows and a Feb breakout seem not too stupid to expect if the past is any sort of indicator.  Seems so far it might be.

Risto's 'where will we be on Dec 31st' thread at the time of the ATH had me looking pessimistic at 0.0075 (in the lower 10% of predictions) but I will now not be surprised to see us do as your post says.

If anything it looks a positively optimistic, given where we look like we are right now - I hope it plays out as you suggest.

Hello guys, can we see Monero to compete with Zcash anytime soon? because I like Monero more than zec and I want it to be successful.

What stops people to use Monero if it's the same as zec?

Nothing stops it, it's just zcash has a huge hype and serious marketing behind it from the people that will benefit.

It's still way above it's real value when you realise how many coins will appear over time.

Monero is decentralised, open source and not backed by vested interests as zcash is, plus it's proven tech and has a huge awareness and respect in cryptoland.

The cream will rise and good money will drive out bad - zcash will be out there, but Monero will too.  The interest it generates in 'private money' can only (in the end) prove positive for Monero.  Will Monero compete? It already does - zcash is new and the hyped price is totally unrealistic.

Wait and see....
2192  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 02, 2016, 09:32:13 AM
Anyone care to speculate on price and this bear market...?

Risto flipped to 'maybe 0.004', Aminorex is sadly absent.  We have seen bottoms below where I expected (I can't be alone in that), so it's tough for all of us who know Monero is sound and will rise again - but is all speculation dead while BTC looks this bullish?

Are we just waiting...?

My thoughts?:

I have said here and elsewhere that I can't see a serious rise for a while - probably not even until Spring.

But does anyone want to polish their crystal ball and take a guess at where the bottom is or even when stability will come...  And will we hold value in USD terms even if BTC does moon...?

This is Monero Speculation, right?  Wink

2193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 31, 2016, 10:52:01 AM
So people will be going back to XMR after the ZEC hype. It's gonna be a long way trip back to my target price. Cheesy

If you bought or can buy some low around here, it will help to bring your cost-average down.

It's a long game.  There are those here who remember long periods of a price much lower than now (even 0.001 for a while) who have learned the virtue of patience and are confident that XMR will give handsome returns in the end.  XMR is good tech and is will remain no. 1 in truly private money for the foreseeable future.

Hang on to as many coins as you can....

2194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 28, 2016, 10:41:29 PM
....and you paid off the only one who predict all of that correct...congratulations!
Does anyone here can tell me how deep XMR will fall? When to close my short?
Is at least PID still here? Or Adolf? Anyone?
i closed my short way too early(at 0.01) totally did not expect a horrible drop like this, missed the re-shorting opportunity at 0.0094 and gave up the final short i did for a tiny profit again at 0.0089

I really did not expect xmr to do this bad, i am actually surprised. At least i refrained from buying this shit and i unlike most people in this thread now have more money than i started with(due to btc increase).

This 'bad'?  Jeez - we are way up from a couple of months ago. Just because you are late to the party, please don't use your distorted perspective rule your head.  XMR is better than zcash, so once the hype is over - where do you think the money will look to go?

Sell, by all means, if you're scared - but some of us have been here a little longer than you and we know what will happen by next spring.  Do you want to be at the party, or cursing on the side lines?

It's a long game. Don't panic. Not yet.  Unless you really think zcash is WORTH 3000 BTC...
2195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 28, 2016, 09:05:45 PM
And what about XMR capitulation ?

It's still WAY above where it was when most of us bought it... You're new here, wait, watch and learn a little?

And when zcash ends in profuse tears, most people will realise what private money is worth and where to buy it for less than 3000 BTC a pop ;-)
2196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 26, 2016, 09:43:57 AM

Ever paid a bouncer at a club to skip waiting in line?  Or to get into a club when it was full?

If you think life is fair I'm not going to burst your bubble.  Anyway, its a Monero thread not Bitcoin....  Plenty of threads discussing Bitcoin blocksize issues.

Lol - fair/unfair are not words I apply to life. No bubble to burst. I don't recall using the word other than to say it was not about that.
Your analogy does not work, unless you are asking if I have ever paid a bouncer to get into a club and deny entry to  someone else who has aleady booked a place. I wouldn't do it ... maybe you would
But as you say this is the XMR thread, so lets end it, even though it is entirely relevant to why people should be looking closer at XMR and its adaptive blocksize.

All I will say is XMR does not suffer from this problem as it simply makes a bigger club to accommodate the extra people. Let's just say I prefer that world Wink

EDIT: Going to bed now knowing I probably won't be able to travel until some random time tomorrow at best or for another 20 hours when the bus company returns my money enabling me to buy another ticket. How convenient  Roll Eyes
Might check out where I can sign up for their customer loyalty scheme first  Grin
Or maybe look for another bus company ...

2197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 25, 2016, 05:05:30 PM
Should be a bounce here but I would be surprised if this was a final capitulation especially with bitcoin just itching to move.

I think we have to remember that Monero shouldn't be negatively linked to the rise of Bitcoin since it is basically a better "bitcoin" than Bitcoin! And it's purpose is to take over the role of BTC in many of the places where BTC fails due to lack of fungibility, privacy, etc...  So, when the price of BTC goes up against fiat, if we as a whole, have our heads on straight... we should view Monero as increasing in value against fiat as well. And I say that, knowing that we have very few options for directly trading fiat for Monero.

Does that make sense?

I think if the next bitcoin ascent takes place as many people are expecting all alts will take a massive dump regardless of their technical superiority, the better ones, Monero included IMO, will eventually make really nice gains but I think at the onset of the next BTC bubble it will be a bloodbath for alts.

Yes and Polo will not help - there is not really a fiat component there, it's a binary choice: hold a rising BTC, or the falling alts?  It's not a choice I could argue against....

Except this: When people see the rise and feel it's time to realise profit - oversold Alts will look tasty... And the best alts will leap up.  Fast...
2198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 25, 2016, 04:58:56 PM
Should be a bounce here but I would be surprised if this was a final capitulation especially with bitcoin just itching to move.  And the ZCash hype is just ridiculous, any discerning mind that makes a rudimentary effort to investigate it will quickly see how flawed it is yet here we are, its trading at 0.25 BTC.  WTF is wrong with crypto people.

You're probably right - I can't see another run until Spring and with BTC awaking and looking bullish, it'll be rough for months.

As for zcash - a quarter of a BTC a pop?  I don't margin play, but I am sure there those braver than me who will make money shorting the hell out of it.

A price so high could be good news for XMR, it looks like a car crash waiting to happen.

A little irrational exuberance for the new shiny thing....?

Plus ça change
2199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 25, 2016, 04:20:43 PM
This will hurt, but I hope it is the final capitulation.

If it is, then the only way after it, is up.

Saddle up and ready what powder you have left...
