2181  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Apart from "OP" any other slag every beginner needs to know? on: June 18, 2023, 12:11:40 PM
OP is an interesting one. Many years ago, I thought it meant 'opening post', so I was confused why most people referred to the thread starter as OP. It made no sense to me until I realized that OP is 'original poster'.
Cantsay shared good resources for crypto terminology. If you want one for general slang that is used on internet forums, you can take a look at noSlang.com.

2183  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Reminder] hey bitcoiners, Did you forget to read the updates on terms&policies? on: June 18, 2023, 08:26:12 AM
Sites and services don't present all TOS updates in the same way. I will use my bank as an example. When there is a TOS change, they send me an email mentioning their terms got changed, and then they highlight the exact points they changed. That makes it much clearer for the end-user to focus on the updates. Some other services I use aren't as detailed. All they say is, our terms have changed. To read the new ones, please check the following document. It's then your job to go through everything from beginning to end to see if there is something there you might not like.
2184  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Does ranking not guarantee post quality? on: June 18, 2023, 07:41:52 AM
Calling someone stupid isn't always the right terminology. Not knowing something isn't synonymous for being stupid. It works the other way around as well. Knowing something doesn't make you more intelligent than the average guy. You might just be a well-informed idiot (using similar terminology as you). Questions are normal in all segments of life. They often mean you are paying attention and require additional clarification. What works in one scenario might not work in a different one. Hence, questions to get a wider understanding of the issue.

Wtf... I came in second. I'm not proud of that. I get support from merit sources. Maybe it's just luck
What's wrong with that? You make it sound like both things are bad: being on top of the merit table for low-rank members and receiving merits from merit sources. Merit sources are instrumental to users ranking up, simply because they have many more merits to pass along than regular members. For a regular member to send 1 merit, they need to receive 2 from other people. Merit sources have bags with hundreds of merits they can distribute.
2185  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Goal Achievement on: June 18, 2023, 07:13:27 AM
Approaching discussions on Bitcointalk with seriousness and a genuine desire to contribute helps in achieving your goals. By demonstrating a sincere interest in the subject matter, you can establish yourself as a valuable member of the community.
I can see that you are also new here, welcome aboard. But please don't write in bold or colored/capital letters. It really isn't necessary and makes a post stick out unnecessarily.

I could have done that to this point as well. Even though I don't have a mentor, sometimes I always pay attention to the high ranks in writing. That could be my guide to adapting. Even though I know I won't be able to match the writing style, I try to be myself by imitating what's good here.
You don't need a mentor or to copy someone else. Just be yourself. Preview your posts and correct errors before submitting them. Ensure that the text is both factually and grammatically correct. The last step is ensuring it looks good and is pleasant to look at. That means, no big walls of text without any order or structure. Create natural paragraphs where it makes sense and would make the reader stick around and keep reading.
2186  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Potential newbies on: June 17, 2023, 01:15:11 PM
One can be a newbie to the forum and a newbie to bitcoin/crypto in general. But, a person can already have certain knowledge about crypto and only be a forum newbie.
It's very easy to figure out which category a particular user falls into by the way he communicates and discussed crypto-related issues.

Your registration date from a few weeks ago shows that you are a forum newbie. Your post history shows that you are also inexperienced in crypto. Basically, you are a double newbie.

I don't consider merit count as an indicator of someone's knowledge. It can be, but merits are also about how much the community or the people giving them like you. We have people on this forum who are knowledgeable but prone to quarrels. Many members of the community don't like them, have them on ignore, and don't merit their posts. However, that doesn't make them newbies or unknowledgeable individuals.
2187  Economy / Reputation / Re: Proxy3200 possible scammer on: June 17, 2023, 12:38:53 PM
@CryptSafe
Do you think there might be a reason why the person PMed you about these scripts and not one of the thousands of other users of Bitcointalk? Have you ever posted on the forum that you would be interested in buying or exchanging those scripts with someone?

If not and it's completely random, there is surely a nefarious reason behind the offer. Report, delete, and don't look back.
2188  Economy / Reputation / Re: AI Spam Report Reference Thread on: June 17, 2023, 08:14:33 AM
@nutildah
Is there a particular reason you suggest using those AI detectors and not some others? Are they more likely to detect automated content compared with some competitors.
I wanted to suggest two more AI classifiers that can get the job done and don't require you to register an account, pay for the service, etc. If you have any comments on their quality, don't hesitate to speak up.

2189  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam circulation, newbies be at alert. on: June 17, 2023, 07:21:26 AM
Another scammer coming up with a new strategy. Got instantly exposed and banned.
I don't think he came up with anything new. In fact, it's probably one of the oldest tricks in the book. He has created a fake exchange. Once you register an account and apply the coupon code, a fake balance will be displayed in your account. You will think you have bitcoins, and try to withdraw them. That's where the actual scam begins. The site will ask you to deposit a certain amount for "security reasons", "network fees", "verification" or whatever else they have come up with in the meantime. Since greed is sometimes stronger than logic, some people will deposit the asked amount and that's the amount they will get scammed for. On top of that, there is the threat of identity theft if you submit any documents to the site for KYC verification.

I initially thought that the kamen1 case was different from that of kezar1, despite the obvious similarities in the usernames. kezar1 never mentioned in this thread that he had an open dispute with the casino on CasinoGuru or that kamen1 is his account. But he did talk about it on the CG thread:

Quote
Thanks for trying to help me. I posted a complaint on the forum https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5455433.0 where the casino representative promised to contact you. If necessary, I am ready to provide you with my documents and selfies with them.
https://casinoguru-en.com/maverick-games-casino-player-has-not-passed-the-verification

It's interesting though that the player claims the Isle of Man regulator never requested any documents from him. That means they only considered the evidence and docs the casino sent them. Nevertheless, this case is closed.
2191  Economy / Exchanges / Re: ChicksX - ✅ Bitcoin Exchange Services ✅ on: June 17, 2023, 06:24:50 AM
We appreciate your perspective and understand your concerns about the Trustpilot ratings. However, with 7 years of experience in the crypto marketplaces and over 100k completed transactions, we have established a strong track record. You can check our reviews at https://localmonero.co/user/Chicks/feedback?page=9 and review history at https://localbitcoins.net/accounts/profile/PKChicks/ for reference.
Fair enough. I just did. It's true that you have completed thousands of trades on both LocalMonero and LocalBitcoins, but it's not close to 100k. Not on those two platforms at least based on the trading history. 2652 on LocalMonero and 5000+ on LocalBitcoins. Your profiles are also not 7 years old, they are 5 years old. I guess you racked up those numbers elsewhere. Still, that's an impressive trading history and another reason why fake feedback isn't needed.
2192  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: User: Smith_94 here scammer and his telegram: @Smith4u on: June 16, 2023, 02:53:45 PM
If the deal between both of you was contacted after "2023-05-16" then you made a huge mistake of trusting an account that has both negative tag and active flag against him/her.
Seeing that OP registered his account a few days ago to make this scam accusation thread, I doubt he knows what flags are or what the forum's feedback system represents. If the seller had a newbie flag, it's hard to overlook as everything is self-explanatory after reading the banner above the user's profile. Still, if you look how clusterphys writes, English is certainly not his strong side. Unfortunately, neither is his knowledge of bitcoin because the seller managed to trick him that "Bitcoin kept too much fees" and that he needed to send another transaction to make up for it.
2193  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: maverickgames.com casino is a scam on: June 16, 2023, 02:40:44 PM
Use askgambler to open a dispute against Mavericks if you are very eager to this case.
Judging by what holydarkness said, AskGamblers doesn't mediate in disputes that concern MaverickGames. He couldn't find the casino on their website. I also did a quick search and couldn't find it either. CasinoGuru could be of assistance, though, if the player wanted their help. Based on OP's results, I don't think he want's to take this any further.
2194  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: maverickgames.com casino is a scam on: June 16, 2023, 12:44:49 PM
No one here can know if you are telling the truth or not regarding your travelling and gambling habits. It's possible of course that you were indeed in a different country from the one whose ID documents you possess. A different scenario is that you are gambling from a restricted location or that you got banned and returned to the site and are now using VPN software to hide your identity.

To confirm if you are telling the truth or not, a trusted mediator would have to look at the presented evidence. If you don't want to go down that route, this thread doesn't really have much value. It's a person saying they got scammed and nothing else. The story begins and ends there.
2195  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ambivalent attitude to gambling on: June 16, 2023, 12:30:49 PM
One of the main reasons is the perception of risk. Certain forms of gambling, such as sports betting and casino games, are perceived as high-risk activities that can lead to significant financial losses. On the other hand, lotteries are seen as a relatively low-risk option...
And in reality, it's the other way around. Bingos and lotteries are purely luck-based products. Sports betting, on the other hand, is a combination of luck and skills/knowledge. Your odds of winning are much higher when you bet on sports than when you want to win the lottery. You can make a single bet and profit from it, while in a lottery you need to guess several number sequences to win.
2196  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] AgoraDesk.com | Buy ♻️ Sell Bitcoins Anonymously! on: June 16, 2023, 12:21:19 PM
That's... odd. I've just tried using VPN and TOR browser, and in one of them I still get EUR (even though TOR is routing me in a UK server) and then in my VPN (which isn't using an American IP) I get USD values. I guess that something must be wrong on my end. Perhaps LocalMonero will be able to clear this doubt whenever he/she is online.
Are you using some enhanced security features that might cause that? AgoraDesk has a version with JavaScript and one without it. I think JS can also be used to geolocate someone's device, but I have never given it much thought. Maybe you can try with a more privacy-invasive browser like Chrome to see if it affects anything.

2198  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: U susret Bitcoin halvingu on: June 15, 2023, 06:14:37 PM
Nekretnina? Postavja se pitanje porijekla novca...
BTC na $100.000 bi bilo odlično. Sve iznad toga je dodatni veliki premium.
2199  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Bitcoin VISA gift card i cash back servis on: June 15, 2023, 06:05:38 PM
