2181  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solo mining lottery on: May 05, 2015, 11:20:15 PM
It's definitely not 1PH/s.  You can solve the equation yourself and figure out how much hash you need to have in order to expect to find a block in a week:
Code:
47643398017 * 2^32 / hash rate = 604800
Hash rate = 338338023070975.95
So, you'd need to have about 338TH/s.

Thanks for the calculation. I really suspected this value to be much higher, I guess it's just bad luck when pools that have this value or more do struggle.

While I don't completely get the math, I do have to ask about the word "expect". Does that mean a 50/50 chance in the week? 95% chance, or what? We've obviously seen pools with 2+ PH that have gone 50 hours between blocks (i.e. bad luck). So it would seem that even with 500 TH you could easily go a week without hitting a block.

That's why I ask about your level of "expectation" in a week (i.e. confidence level).
Let me try and help you with that.  First, what do the numbers in my equation mean?  Well, it's actually a simplified version (that's accurate enough for the purposes of figuring this out).  Let me put in words what I wrote above in numbers:
Code:
Current Network Difficulty times a difficulty 1 share divided by your hash rate per second equals a week
In other words, since I know the current network difficulty, what a difficulty 1 share is worth (this is the approximation... I'll post the real values if you want) and how long I want to wait to find a block, I can calculate how much hash power I would need to find a block in that time frame.

So why do I keep using the word "expect"?  Because it's probability.  As you noted, just because the formula says you should find a block in the given timeframe, there's absolutely no guarantee that you will.  In fact, there are formulas for that as well.  Take a look at CDF (cumulative distribution function).  The CDF will tell us that 98% of all blocks will be found at under 400% luck, about 88% of blocks will be found at under 200% luck.  100% luck is around 64% or so.

So, is 64% the confidence level?  It's just another way to express the probabilistic data.  Just like a pool with 500TH/s could easily go for a week without hitting a block, so too could that pool hit 2 blocks seconds apart.
2182  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Set up a self-hosted wallet which will immediately forward to other wallets on: May 05, 2015, 10:17:01 PM
OP wouldn't really need the blocknotify event... just the walletnotify.  That event happens twice - first time is when the transaction hits your wallet.  Second happens when the transaction appears in a block (i.e. it's got the first confirmation and becomes spendable coin).

Also, keep in mind that you want to ensure your script is pretty simplistic as each wallet notify event spawns it's own process.  Of course if you're only getting (or expecting) a few transactions a day, that's not a big deal.

Anyway, just some food for thought...

I living apartment and i dont know where put miner what places ?

I think on balcon

Also it appears to have switched accounts to "toqchista2" so odd that this happened.  Most people don't have 2 accounts especially second one labeled with a 2.  Makes me wonder if it's a troll trollling another troll.
Earlier he wrote that he switched names because the other account was banned.  All I could think was, "Are you kidding me?  You created a new account that is virtually identical to your previous one that was banned, and are still asking the exact same questions?"

Than 50 miners put balcon , probably fine idea

People are trying to warn you it's a horrible idea to go from 1 to 50.  It makes us think you are spamming.

Summer is coming.  Expect heat.  Build up smaller slowly go up.  If you do such huge jumps you will have problems, and a lot of them.  Unless you hired someone who has done it before.  I suggest looking in your local area for a more experienced miner, who could show his operation and help you for a fee.

It being local is important as he/she deals with your local environment.
He thinks putting 50 miners on the balcony is a good idea... this has to be a troll account.
2185  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Can someone help a total noob? Can I make mining profitable in my circumstances? on: May 05, 2015, 09:26:16 PM
Hopefully I'm posting in the right place, I'm a total noob in bitcoin and bitcoin mining.  If not, punt my thread to wherever it should go  Cheesy

I quite literally just started reading up on bitcoin Sunday, spent all day yesterday reading and coming the web for a feel of the land, so this will be my second fully day in the venture.  Let me tell you my special circumstances in regards to mining.  I have a small data center with free elec, free to me anyway, pretty ridiculous amounts of overcooling, and at least 120U of empty rack space at the moment.  Along with that, I also have access to a 200x200mb fiber optic connection and it averages 100mb free / available around the clock.  Maybe there is a more profitable venture than bitcoin mining?

Anyway, in my research yesterday, looks to me like in used mining equipment my target is about 20 cents per GH/s and I don't want to put anything in less than 1 TH/s.  I just don't want to mess with small stuff.  I have seen a couple units as low as 15 cents per GH/s but they go fast of course.  Looks more like the average is running between 35 and 50 cents per GH/s used and way more than that new.  I did score a 1.25 TH/s unit yesterday and figure my break even at about 90 days, so that's pretty great.  Again, with my situation, I don't really care how much power they burn, I'm most concerned with acquisition cost and capacity.  Any guidance on the types of units I should be looking for would be greatly appreciated.  My objective right now is to start with one or two units and figure out what pools to join, get everything up and running and use any revenue coming in to expand a unit or two at a time until I fill my rack space and hopefully have between 15-20 TH/s capacity, maybe more?

Can I make any money doing this in today's environment?  I understand I'm not going to get rich, but with bitcoin trading so low right now and people seeming to want to bail out on mining and sell me their equipment cheap, I hope to have a robust mining operation online already when it starts trading higher at some point in the future.  I have a lot more questions, but perhaps best just to start with this.  Am I way off base?  Out of my mind insane?
You say you've got free power... how much free power do you have?

With 120U of rack space available, you can get considerably more than 15-20TH/s if you've got the power to drive it all.  See if you can get your hands on some of the datacenter-centric gear... like the SP10/SP3x series from Spondoolies or the older S2 or newer S4 from Bitmain.

What's your limit on acquisition cost?  You mention $0.20 per GH... which I think you'll have a hard time getting, but you might get lucky... Is there an upper limit?  For example, if you could get a 5.5TH/s machine at $1100 (good luck with that by the way) is $1100 something you'd have access to?

A very good question.  to me this page is what counts.

my stats page is below

Here's what my stats look like on MRR now that I switched to Mintsy:

I think the most telling factor here is - and I don't have it in the screenshot - that the number of workers reported keeps changing.  I have 6 S3s pointed here.  Yet the number of workers changes from 6 to 3 to 2 to 5 to 1 to 3 etc.  I also notice that the miners are falling back to my backup pool (which happens to be my p2pool node).  So now when I look at stats, I see all kinds of weirdness.  My p2pool node goes from having about 1.5TH/s down to having 600GH/s depending I guess on whether or not the workers are showing up in MRR... the mintsy.co status page shows somewhere around 545GH/s total.  MRR shows anywhere between 0 and 100GH/s... weird, right?

When I switch my miners back to point at my p2pool node, MRR is all happy again... I get the 2.75TH/s.

saw the reaction of the members of this forum and people who have experience in the mining, regarding this new product S4 + .. it is a great disappointment for most part of them !!
for me this new product only slows the progress of Bitcoin and minors .. UNFORTUNATELY

I am almost 40 years old and support slowing the progress of minors 100%, let kids be kids!
LOL... well played sir Smiley

I've got a question regarding pointing my own gear here.  I have 6 S3s that are updated with the latest firmware and xnsub patched cgminer binaries.  My primary pool is MRR, secondary is mintsy.co.  On MRR, I have configured my miners to point to mintsy.co when they are not rented.

They absolutely refuse to connect and hash here when they are not rented on MRR.  However, if I just set them to mine here directly (by changing up the pool config in the S3 configuration), they work fine.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

S3 -> MRR -> mintsy = fail
S3 -> mintsy = success

Do I need to I cannot put the #xnsub in the URL in my MRR pool config like this:

https://i.imgur.com/g8nc42k.png

I've got it directly in the S3 config...

https://i.imgur.com/Uzg5SLb.png

Maybe that's what I'm missing?  Unfortunately I can't test yet because my gear is currently rented on MRR...

By the way, the 3 month SHA256 contract I purchased is doing just fine... makes me keep my eyes on the alt coins... maybe I'll spread some of it to the other coins and see if I can get some good trade prices on cryptsy...

EDIT: MRR does not allow you to put the #xnsub in the pool config... it throws an error when you try to save the pool configuration

Is MRR subscribing to extranonce? If not it will not work properly.
Interesting question.  I assume they are since they advertise it and show it when your gear subscribes... see the screenshot of my rig on MRR:

My miners are all connected to MRR with the #xnsub parameter (as shown in my previous post's screenshot).  Here they are happily hashing away on my p2pool node:

I'll switch them to Mintsy... and I'll edit this post in about 30 minutes to show you what happens.

this is my second account . first on acc i ban.

I've learned that my country my apartment isn't problem electrisity because don't is limit and else told me that i will need electrisity 3 phase in apartment for 17000W and this will not problem .

else i have other question until will buy 50 miner.

example.

2020 years that will be btc price and difficult same what is nowadays will be same profitable if more low profitable will be ?
Even if we assume that you are able to get that amount of power delivered to your apartment, let's be realistic.  You would need to have at least 100 amps of additional service, including all the circuits, breakers, wiring, etc.  I truly doubt you're going to be able to get that kind of work done in an apartment.  However, for the sake of argument, let's say that you do.

In addition to the 50 S5s, you'll need power supplies to provide the electricity to the miners.  You'll need cabling, network switches, some kind of machine running a proxy, decent internet service, racks and most importantly a means to dissipate all of that heat.  That's roughly 58,000 BTU per HOUR those miners will generate.

I had a bitcoin I bought earlier today burning a hole in my pocket, so I rented some hashpower, within a few minutes I had a share over 1G, a few minutes later another share over 3G, a few minutes later my best share was lower meaning someone found a block, surely it wasn't me after only mining with my rentals for 20 minutes. I couldn't believe it when I saw my new address as the payout. I picked it because it had 7's in it and hashesez, I liked to think it was my lucky address because it "hashes easy" lol

Man this is addicting and I'm finally out of the red!
Wow... That's incredible!  20 minutes in and you hit a block.  Congrats!

This pool is taking out all the others lol

It's a great pool, and has done a good job on luck - Pool Lucky (24H / 3D / 1W / 2W / 1M / 3M / All Time) : 103.00% / 118.00% / 100.00% / 98.00% / 101.00% / 102.00% / 102.00%

Look at comparisons it's almost as big as f2pool, just solving 1 percent less in last 24 hours.  - https://blockchain.info/pools

So now that DDOS attacks seem to be over, or fixed.  Seems like pool is going to prosper again.

okay you persuaded me to mine here today.   So how do I set a btc addy on antpool> ?
Login to the pool... Account -> Settings

Go to Miner Settings, click the dropdown in Options to Edit:

ok example heat isn't problem .

electricity what problem is ? only limit kw ?
Heat most certainly IS a problem.  You will not be able to dissipate the heat that 50 miners will generate - especially in an apartment.  You also will not be able to provide enough electricity to power those 50 miners.

Please stop asking the same questions repeatedly.
2198  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solo mining lottery on: May 04, 2015, 05:14:00 PM
I wasn't even thinking about electrical service, just the practicality of where to put all the hardware.  But the two are pretty much the same thing for the home miner, since you'll reach the limits of home space about the time you reach the limits of your electrical service.
I don't know about that... I could stack quite a few miners in my basement/garage if I had the power available Smiley.  Last year I tried to convince the little lady to let me call an electrician and have some wiring done... I really wanted to throw a rack of SP3Xs in the garage.  She told me I was nuts.  So, I stuck with the smaller equipment running on the standard household service.  I think she was just a little put off at the noise... that SP10 I had screamed.
2199  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin solo mining with cpu on: May 04, 2015, 05:08:05 PM
Just did the math:

You would have exactly a 0.000000000082930% chance of hitting a block over a 1 year period running at 99.999% efficiency 24/7 (assuming difficulty remains static)

*And yeah, that's fraction of a single percent!

:-P
What would the math be with 17th?
With 17TH/s you would expect to find a block in about 139 days with the current network difficulty.
2200  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solo mining lottery on: May 04, 2015, 05:01:22 PM
Yup.  With the current hardware I would say the upper limit of a "home setup" would be about 10TH/s, where 1TH/s would be an average home setup.  My little mine pumps out 0.8TH/s.  Cheesy
It really depends on your home's service.  Somebody with a few 240V30A breakers could drive a lot more hash than somebody who only has 120V15A circuits.  In the US at least, the vast majority of homes aren't going to have those 240V circuits, or if they do, they're already being utilized for things like the electric dryer, range and central AC.  Good luck convincing the significant other that you're going to get rid of those appliances to mine BTC Smiley.

I have 8 S3s, totaling about 3.65TH/s.  If I were to replace them with S5s, I'd end up with about 5.75TH/s for just about the same power usage.
