2181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer D3 profitability (November batch) UK on: September 17, 2017, 09:54:45 PM
The D3 will probably still be profitable in November, but it's going to be MUCH MUCH LOWER than it would be if you had one now and ROI is going to be measured in LOTS OF MONTHS at best.

2182  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What will happen to the chinese BTC miners ? on: September 17, 2017, 09:46:11 PM
It's not mining that's been affected in china, just some small exchanges.

Huboai and OKCoin are NOT "small exchanges" - they are 2 of the 4 or 5 largest exchanges in the world.

There are also some rumours that China is trying to get access restrictions added to the "Great Firewall of China" against all of the major foreign cryptocoin exchanges.

Ease of moving capital across borders is exactly what China seems to be TARGETING - they've been suffering a LOT of Capital Flight since their economy and the Yuan started tanking.

I suspect they will leave Bitmain Innosilicon and the other Chinese-based miner makers along, as those companies are bringing foreign exchange INTO the country in significant numbers.

2183  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Three s7 vs one s9 on: September 17, 2017, 09:42:08 PM
D3 at this point is a BAD option - profitability is going to be very poor by the time the CURRENT batch actually ships and ROI is almost definitely going to be quite a bit worse than the S9 would be by then.

I'd go with the S7 or Avalon units, depending on HOW MUCH free power is available.

2184  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: queens new york on: September 17, 2017, 09:40:24 PM
This Queens offer is an EXPENSIVE option - that electric rate is way too high for long-term viability and profitablilty.
I also shudder to think what kind of RENT you are paying anywhere near NYC - I've got friends that live in the area specifically including Brooklyn and their rent numbers are NIGHTMARES (except for the one that's in an old "rent control" apartment they sorta inherited from their parents).

You're trying to compete with big farms that pay 3 cents / kwh OR LESS.

The Ottowa offer is a lot more reasonable.
2185  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I have 50k to start a farm , how would you do it. on: September 17, 2017, 09:36:42 PM
Also back in the states I am in the pacific northwest and my electricity is .08 kwh.

The FIRST thing I would do is to locate a viable place to mine in with a MUCH lower price for electric.

Even the S9 is starting to get a little marginal for profitability at 8 cents/kwh electric cost.

If you're in the PNW already, you're pretty bloody close to where you can get THE LOWEST cost electric in the USA at about 3 cents/kwh all up cost.

Ever wonder why most big US farms like MegaBigPower / Gigawatt or Toomin Brothers are where they are at?

I almost got a place this spring that would have been less than a mile from Toomin Brothers, ended up a bit further away but in the same close area in a space with lower rent and better cooling options (but smaller).

2186  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: EWBF's CUDA Zcash miner on: September 17, 2017, 09:25:41 PM
Try rolling back to the older driver that WAS working.

A lot of NVidia driver versions do NOT work well for mining - the current 385.41 version is PARTICULARLY UNSTABLE AND CRASHY, I was never able to keep my machine that was running it up for more than about 5 MINUTES when I tried to mine.

2187  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Launching the Antminer L3+, World's Most Powerful and Efficient Litecoin Miner on: September 17, 2017, 09:22:19 PM

Variables ranges of SCRYPT fees from 1.15% to 2% !
Average 1.5% fees

As opposed to mining on LiteCoinPool that GIVES YOU 2% or 3% (depending on exact timeframe) to mine with them due to their use of merged-mining to support their own costs and then pay YOU back some of the left-over extra earnings.

2188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: September 17, 2017, 09:19:19 PM

Thinking of doing a wallmount version of this to bring in cool dust filtered air , it also has the option for an interal evap cooler as well

https://www.captiveaire.com/catalog/genpartCatalog.asp?catId=108

Why not just go direct to a "window-mount" type evap to start with?

Also, you don't need fans on BOTH intake and exhaust, the only thing that does is waste power to drop backpressure a LITTLE, it has almost no effect on airflow unless you have a VERY restricted airflow path (like the inside of a S9 miner).

2189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Gridcoin (GRC) - first coin utilizing BOINC - Official Thread on: September 17, 2017, 09:03:06 PM
Still waiting for a reply from anyone that has gotten a GRC payout in the last *3 weeks*.

Gridcoin has got me very close to the point of saying "forget about it, it's NOT paying out" and shifting back to working directly with the Distributed.Net project instead of with BOINC at all.

Don't even get me started on the BROKEN current BOINC client.

Oh, it happened after developers removed research weight from formula, you need something like 1000$ in your wallet now to stake every day. To get more accurate numbers just take a look at some users who stake every day.

 That's TOTALLY INSANE.

Are they TRYING to shaft those that this coins is SUPPOSED TO BE SUPPORTING?

Why the HELL am I going to keep MONTHS worth of income in the damned wallet in order to see payouts on even a semi-reasonably timely basis - and I'm a HEAVY hitter in Gridcoin, I don't even want to think about what this is going to do to the smaller-production folks.

$1000 represents over 30 THOUSAND GRIDCOIN at current pricing - that's well over A THOUSAND DAYS WORTH OF WHAT I MAKE - for perspective I'm right about 20% of ALL GRIDCOIN PARTICIPATION in Moo Wrapper, and also a smaller but significant factor currently in the Yoyo project.
I''m currently well into the Top 15 as far as ranking of Magnitude goes in the Neural Network - yet the devs are apparently saying that staking is more important that THE RESEARCH GRIDCOIN IS SUPPOSED TO BE SUPPORTING to have such an insanely HIGH requirement for me to get payouts.

This needs to change, this is FUCKING the whole concept of Gridcoin support for BOINC research participants.

BTW - that list does not show "how often" people get payouts, it only shows the last time the GOT a payout.
With that said, it's VERY bothersome that only ONE PERSON ON THAT LIST has less than 1000 Gridcoin and most of them have very low magnitudes.
That's TOTALLY BACKWARDS from what should be happening if this coin is actually intended to SUPPORT RESEARCHERS.
2190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: September 17, 2017, 08:49:10 PM
Anyone else get the impression Bitmain has been trying to push as many of these out the "presale" door as they can while they can, before the flood kills X11 profitability?

PS - there's stlll some up of the most recent batch, guess folks are starting to pay attention and WORRY about "is this gonna make me ANYTHING by the time I get it".

2191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: September 16, 2017, 08:36:13 PM

there is a side of seasonic 1250xm that gets hot like when you touch it you would remove your hand immediately, that side I would not dare lay it flat on a surface...other PSU are of different make and build but still..you get the idea.

The side away from the fan - but if you have it on a metal shelf it's a GOOD idea to lay it flat, as the shelf will help dissapate the heat some.
Wood or any other insulator, flat would be bad.

The way my setup works, all the PS are on their sides though for space and air management reasons so it's not an issue either way.

2192  Economy / Speculation / Re: Feeling good about the dip / down on: September 16, 2017, 08:32:18 PM
3800 seems to be pretty strong as for now, let's see what comes next - 4400 + or another dip to 3300 ?

Unless relieving news come from China best scenario is dead cat bounce to about 4000$ ( max. ) and price between 3400-3800$ for the rest of week.
Very bad news can drive the price down to about 3000$ though.

imho

The funny and sad thing is, the news doesn't even have to be confirmed/legitimate for it to affect the price. It's pretty obvious how much ignorant people are invested into bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. They just read a negative post of bitcoin from Wall Street Journal then BOOM. People start selling without even thinking twice if the news is legit or not. A perfect example of this is Charlie Lee's tweet spreading FUD.

All 4 of the major Chinese Exchanges ANNOUNCING that they are "shutting down all trading operations" over the next month and a half seems to be strong confirmation to me of some sort of issue in China.

On the other hand, there is one rumor that it might be some sort of "licensing issue", or just more regulatory crackdown on the part of the Chinese Government trying to stop "capital flight" instead of them being willing to make the STRUCTURAL CHANGES they need to make to fix the long-running issues in their economy.

Of course, most of those "structural changes" would make it likely that the hold on power by the Chinese Government would end fairly quickly....

2194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How long will my gpu last? on: September 16, 2017, 08:25:35 PM
I have a pair of GTX650 bought in 2012 still running BOINC at 100% 24/7. Air cooled, fans on Auto, no OC with an open case. Had various other GTX running for 5 years plus no problems all on Boinc or Folding@home.

Only added Team Red to the farm since starting Alt Coin mining in last year so not sure on those, but Team Green can certainly do 5 years no problems at all.

Those date back to the days when cards had fan curves from the manufacturer designed to keep the cards COOL, instead of the current insanity of putting "quiet" as FAR MORE IMPORTANT than "cool".

EVGA in particular had major issues with it's early 1070 models because the FAN CURVE WAS SET WAY TOO LOW (despite them pointing at "didn't have thermal pads on the VRM models", the cards last just FINE and stay plenty cool enough if you turn the fans up past the factory-default UNDER 40% AT 80C insanity - the actual final FIX out of EVGA was a BIOS change that turned the fan curve up to more like 50% at 70C).

Factory default fan curves on ANY recent card are set crazy-low, and ignore the possibility of the card being used in a "compute" capability (the manufacturer wants you to pay the crazy-expensive price for their "professional" or "workstation" cards instead even though they tend to use the SAME GPU and the SAME ram and have an INFERIOR cooling solution so they have to clock them a TON lower to keep cool).

2195  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Could China Ban Miners. on: September 16, 2017, 08:18:11 PM
BTC China, ViaBTC, Huboi, and OKCoin, have ALL now announced that they are suspending ALL TRADING OPERATIONS - first 2 by end of September, second pair by end of October.

There has been some rumor that it may be a "licensing issue" rather than a permanent shutdown.

It's not looking like China is going to move to shutting down mining operations even if the exchanges ARE permanently shut down - the mining and miner manufacturers bring in needed foreign exchange after all. while the exchanges were facilitating "capital flight" that China hates....

2196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question - Best GPU for mining for highest hash IF electricity is FREE on: September 15, 2017, 07:54:52 PM
R9 290/290x if you want to mine ETH - be sure to install a BIOS from TheStilt on them to greatly reduce their heat generation AND speed them up quite a bit compared to the stock BIOS.

Possibly the R9 390/390x (but those tend to cost a good bit more when you can find them).

There was no HD-series version of the R9 290/290x GPU, and the HD 7970/R9 280X were quite a bit lower performance in all ways EXCEPT 64-bit floating point (which is NOT used in cryptocoin mining except in a round-about way via BOINC/Gridcoin).

This is not to say that the HD 7990 (dual 7970) or HD 7970 or HD 7950 are BAD choices, if you can get them cheap enough.

2197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is water cooler required in mining? on: September 15, 2017, 07:49:43 PM
Due to the additional cost of water cooling, the use of water-cooled cards in cryptocoin mining is RARE.

2198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining BCH whit GPU on: September 15, 2017, 07:41:14 PM
If you're talking about BitCoin Cash, that is a SHA256 protocal Bitcoin varient THAT IS MINED WITH ASIC.

It also technically should be discussed in the Altcoins Mining forum, though it uses the SAME hardware that Bitcoin does.

2199  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PSU recommended for Bitmain's S9 on: September 15, 2017, 07:38:57 PM
APW 3++ is cheap enough and specifically designed to work with the S9.

Anything Delta-made (which includes a lot of "HP" and "Dell" branded PS) should be reliable.

EVGA G2 1600 (if you can FIND them any more) in a pinch or if you want the ability later to shift to 110.

2200  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer L3+ payout only 19$ today? on: September 15, 2017, 07:34:53 PM
Two major factors.

 1) The big cryptocoin price DUMP of the past week, in response to the news out of China especially the BTC China announcement that they are shutting down ALL operations.

 2) New batch of L3+ (and possibly a batch of A4) got shipped and put online, bumping the diff up quite a bit.

On the positive side, $3000 seems to have been the approximate bottom as long as no NEW negative news shows up.

Perhaps someone pointed out to the Chinese Government how much foreign exchange Bitmain is bringing INTO the country, and that it would be a BAD THING to shut Bitcoin down in China....
