Jst wondering has the real marketing started yet? ( i guess not really since the app isnt fully ready but still wondering)
How much of the budget is for marketing purpose and what kind of marketing will be done not sure ive seen this detailed anywhere or maybe they didnt think it would be needed?
Also have the dev team ever though of maybe giving the app a more common name on the playstore? I mean telegram with getgems isnt really the kind of messenger name people would be looking for when searching for an app messenger. maybe this was already discussed but if not hope this is a valid point.
I don't think real marketing has started yet, the app isn't fully featured. The app was called Gems before but when you search you get lots of games popping up, then it was changed to Telegram with GetGems because of Telegram popularity and all the people searching for Telegram will see GetGems on the list aswell, but i certainly agree that it can be improved. The tradable tokens are called Gemz, so Gemz Messenger is an appropriate, short, catchy name and when you search for it not many suggestion will pop up. But it's all up to the team, i'm sure they know what is best. But there is a problem with calling it Gemz Messenger, because the tokens inside the app are called Gems, so it might be confusing for people to make that switch. that's why i think GetGems is still the best choice, the Get part makes perfect sense because the rewards the app gives you.

It used to just be called gemz. That was even more common. I would have liked it to stay Gemz Messenger. I think it's all about branding and promotion anyways. I mean how many people searched for whatsapp. Before it was a thing. Plus most referrals will be P2P unlike most apps. And as it became more popular it would rise in the store. There was talk in the chat about adding "get money" or "make money with getgems" which I'm totally against though. Don't want to sound like a scammy mlm. I think Daniel agrees. It was first called Gems, but the issue with that was when you search for Gems you get tons of games, then it was changed to Telegram with GetGems. They put Telegram in the name because many people search for Telegram and our app will also show up in the list. I agree with you that Gemz Messenger is a good one, tho its confusing cus the tokens inside are Gems, so GetGems is better imo.

And XT-bitcoin will kill bitcoin
imo Core will do that, cus it will never be able to handle lots of transactions, making the whole point of bitcoin going mainstream (which satoshi aimed for) pointless.
|
|
|
We don't need or want XT, but we need the block size increase. Adopt BIP 101, but not XT.
Didn't you read, some core developers aren't letting the block size increase with core, so creating xt you bypass that. So some core developers are just being an ass here.
|
|
|
XT is the way to go, it can handle much more users.

Mobile wallets make actually only sense when you can spend you coins somewhere. This holds for Bitcoin only so far.
GetGems has an in-build store where you can spend your Gems, once the attention economy rolls out the app will have an even greater way to spend where advertisers must pay the user directly with Gems for their attention, rather than paying the gatekeepers of a social network, like FB or Google.

Well congrats you are at a loss, cus the ltc/btc ratio went down.

So i got some clearity regarding referrals. This has been raised quite a few times. Answer is, Alex and Alon know this and the back end database has a record. Work is being done on anti-fraud to ensure referrals are real, by humans, and valid. This will prevent bot-monstets from stealing all the referral gems from the pot of gold (which is finite). Once done and tested, it will be rolled out and everyone will get their referral gems.

Is there a system in place to reward users for finding bugs? If not, this should be in place, and advertised heavily on the forum and within the app until all of this gets ironed out. Forget Airdrop for now; instead, use those Gems to reward beta testers and bug finders 1000-5000 Gems per bug, depending on how significant the bug is.
If you incentivize users to help bug-test the referral system, they will be more forgiving, and less likely to delete the app/rate it 1 star.
There are already beta tester groups for android and ios in the app, the official version doesn't really have bugs from my experience, it's just the referral issue which i'm sure the team is aware of.

A friend of mine on Android sent the referral link to his friend, who then installed the app. My friend never got the Gemz for the referral, and subsequently deinstalled the program. When he told his friend the Gemz referral didn't work, he also uninstalled the app. They don't care about Gemz enough to contact support; they just wanted it to work.
If this app is to be successful, the referral system has to work 100% of the time. Otherwise, people will get pissed off and tell their friends that it sucks, rate the app poorly, and it will ultimately kill the momentum. If it means hiring people to test, or more programmers to debug, then do whatever it takes to get this right from the beginning, otherwise this project will stop dead in its tracks.
I agree here. Should be top priority. I've had similar experiences. I have to agree aswell, the team has done a great job, but the referral system is doing poor, don't know where the issue is at but it should work properly for the app to succeed and to expand its userbase.

Did anyone see Telebit attempting to downplay GG at the moment their app was live? They are clearly looking up to GG and show who is leading, Telebit has now just 10-50 downloads. I downloaded the app and uninstalled it, after using GG, Telebit was just too boring. https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3gsmec/telegram_telebits_brand_new_app_lets_you_send_to/Then this guy rydan and the_real_obola are to be seen in every GG related Topic, they are clearly competitors. But it was a nice publicity for GG anyway cuts their whole Thread changed into a GetGems topic. It's only a wallet so it should be compared more to mycelium, bread wallet etc., getgems is a different niche and much more than a wallet.

I use GEMZ and it is alright. I have a feeling it won't catch on though. Regular users don't understand that GEMZ are different than all the fake money every other app has. Don't most apps have fake money included in it promote use. Users don't care if it is MySQL money or Blockchain money. To users it is all monopoly money. If it was easier to see that GEMZ = BTC = Real physical stuff, it might catch on faster.
ICO buyers hold too many coins also. Even if you understand GEMZ = USD quite easily, you soon realize all you earned was $0.01. You then realize if the app gets popular you're just making investors rich with yourself having a chance at $100.
Then there are server costs since GEMZ is centralized... what will the company that created GEMZ do when they have $0 in the bank? Run another ICO and dilute GEMZ?
Recently in the groupchat someone mentioned to test the title on the app store as "GetMoney Messenger" or GetMoney with GetGems". You can elaborate in the description section under the app how Gemz is actual money. Check this new update, the airdrop for activity is close which is even more rewards to "GetMoney". I think such title will attract a lot of users and lots of skeptics. Referral Rewards are Only Available to Humans

What advantages over StartChat besides existence of iPhone app?
I haven't used Startchat so don't know much about it, but from the screenshot it looks very basic. Advantages would be: - iOS support - Julia (personal Bitcoin assistant which allows you to buy and sell bitcoin on Coinbase, send and receive Bitcoin and check balances on Coinbase, all from withing the app, https://developers.coinbase.com/blog/2015/08/03/julia-telegram-bot-for-bitcoin- Bits support - Making it rain in group chats (Bits and Gems) - Tipping individuals in group chat - Tip payment stickers (pictures https://medium.com/@GetGems/getgems-development-update-15-july-26-2015-68ac18abb5f6) - In build store - In build QR scanner - Wallet has transaction history and when you tap on one it shows the details - Each user has a referral link - Getting a daily reward for checking in, getting rewarded for inviting others from other social media by just a tap - Better looking interface (imo) - More user friendly, i think with startchat you have to tap attachment and press coins to send, in gg you just can send from withing the chatbox or simple things like these, startchat says 'coins', but the average user will wonder what it means, but gg makes it more clear 'send BTC' and 'send Gems'. Such details can make a big difference.
